  1. I decided to record a playthrough of NHAT. It takes DAYS to export and upload the thing! holy crap!

Not yet. 48%. I'll post it on the forum thread when it's done :D

LOL after a million years of uploading, it gave me a message that it found copyrighted music in it. So it has replaced it with "Dr. Akula-Disembodied Dead". That's a very promising dark mod playthrough. I'm trying to dispute it, what argument do I use?

"...because fuck yourselves" is the only argument that even makes sense.

  2. I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card. What is the fastest reasonably priced card for Blender cycles/CUDA operations. Note that a graphics card absolutely creams a CPU in terms of rendering speed (10x+ faster). I won't touch anything with less than 4 GB. My current card is 1 GB and going to a 2 GB card seems stupid and wasteful.
  3. Been banging my head against the wall on this, Im trying to edit the D3 cave model that I used in St Albans Cathedral. What I have learned today - how to remove and merge vertices. how to extrude a bunch of selected vertices. Whats whats doing my head in is - moving the model around and zooming in and out is complete unintuative compared to DR. How the hell to a texture paint the cave model, I would like to be able to apply the texture in the same way as you can apply colour via vertext painting.
  4. Isn't winter time great? You can be rendering in blender and the machine will still be super quiet. In the summer time, it sounds like a jet.

Candles are essential when playing TDM in winter.

Yes - they warm my cold fingers on the mouse and even add much atmosphere :)

I like using dining candles but instead of putting them in candle holders I put them in empty wine bottles so they can drip all over the bottle. They look bloody awesome!

  5. I read in the forums that there are a few people, who work in 3ds max. Same for me here! Only stupid thing is, that I can't import premade darkmod models (can't import .ase but can export to [seriously wtf?]). As there's no plugin for 3ds max 2012 I can't look on the already created models. I read in the modeling section of the dark mod wiki and also some of the tutorials about exporting on the web. I understand that I have to "bake" my texture on the exported model. It works so far as there are .tga files created (e.g. for diffuse map, bump map, etc.) then I export my model. I can insert it in Dark Radiant too but there's allways "shader not found" on the object, so it's not the correct way I've done this. Does anyone know how to export the model correctly from 3DS Max into .ase for TDM / DR? Note that I've followed the "starting to model" tutorial in the wiki (like "3dsMax: turn to poly, max sides 3, turn to edit mesh before export.") This whole thing isn't completely new to me since I had a crash course on 3d modeling in 3ds max in which I rendered a self created scene into a .tif image. So I know the basics. I've read some tutorials on this texture exporting theme, but since they're not tailored for exporting this to TDM I am stuck so far. May some of the 3ds max people read this and can help me out a bit. I'm sure I can create some models which are needed for TDM as long as it hasn't to be organic things like faces or animals which seems a bit too hard for me at the moment. Thanks for reading!

  7. OK, I'm in between tasks and need a rest and a change. Have a painful back problem at the moment so have to keep lying down but I can manage an hour here and there at the keyboard so thought I'd take a look at modelling. I'll list progress so if anyone else is interested they can avoid any problems I meet along the way and also know what to expect. Three tutorial websites: http://guerrillacg.org/home/3d-general This looked promising and very professional to start with but no indication it is anything to do with Blender. Started to read the top nice clear info but only got through a sentence or two and the panel cleared to push some different info. Flashy videos are very clever but this is impossible to read in the time given. Moving down the page looking for a beginner's way in. There is no info on the home page as to what this page is about but with a bit of guesswork I think it lists video tutorials. The first one is Hierarchy Basics: " Hierarchies are used to link the translation rotation and scale of objects to each other." D'uh? Next up is a tutorial about polygons. Mmm... I'm not sure who this is aimed at. I'll come back to this site if the others are no good. http://www.blendercookie.com/ This looks perfect. "New to Blender? Start here" now that makes more sense. Uh Oh! Embedded video crashes with some strange message and no clue what to do. Shelve that one then. http://www.katsbits.com OK, here's a tutorial: "Blender Basics: interface and appearance" that claims to take you through the basics to make a simple chair. Sounds OK. Let's go. Nothing here about where to get and install Blender so I'll go away and check for that first. Mmm... The entire website seems to be about Blender but can find no hint where to get it! Why oh why? Over to google..... http://www.blender.org/download/get-blender/ 32 and 64 bit versions. 10MB download for 32 bit. I'll probably have to get the 64 bit for my other system later. Start installer. It installs but tells me "you will also need to install python" Link to python download. I think python is some sort of script runner. This seems to be the recommended one: Python 2.6.4 Windows installer (Windows binary -- does not include source) (in English they mean it's an application, a runnable Windows program ready to go.) This is 14MB. It's an MSI file but clicking it Windows seems to know what to do with it. The installer shows me a tree of features which mean nothing to me so I click the word Python at the top and get a + plus sign which I think means install everything. I have no choice but to go with this blind option. OK, that finishes and disappears so I now click the Blender shortcut on my desktop and woohoo it's up. By now my back is killing me so I'll resume later with the tutorial.....
  8. Personally I think this is the worst idea ever. The Reason forums has LOADS of info and knowledge, built up through years and years. I'm really sad to see it go away, and I can't understand why they've made this decision. https://www.propellerheads.se/forum/showthread.php?p=1579099#poststop

I've been considering reinstalling TDS for a wile now... I've still got my original CDs. Have these guys fixed the bug where you get stuck floating? Last time I played TDS, that happened and I was unable to get out of it, so I ragequit.

      chakkman

You can surpass that bug by drawing your bow, performing a shot, and draw your blackjack when the bow is tensioned, to abort the bow shot. I'm hoping it's fixed in the Gold patch too though. Alongside the thing where you move sideways, when peeking left or right.

      @Biker Hmm.

      Build TDM mission in DR.

      Export as portions as ASE

Edit in Blender and export in TDS compatible format

      Import into T3ED

      Edit

      Release TDS mission...

      (or just stick with TDM)

  9. I'm trying to learn a bit about rigging. I had this raven working in D3 at one point, but the skeleton was very primitive and couldn't be animated. I've come back to it after a few years and made a more sophisticated rig, but when I export it, the bird is rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise (see bottom image). I don't know why this is...the orientation of the model in Maya is the same as the previous version, which was fine after export. All our other models have the Y axis as vertical just like this one does (see top). Is there possibly some value on the origin bone that is causing this? When I try and rotate it, the whole model moves. Anyone have any ideas? I don't know much about rigging, so I'm hoping this is just something trivial.

I hope the gameplay is unique to justify him reinventing the wheel instead of, e.g., just forking off of us. The art design looks good.

  10. I've been working on an ASE export script on and off over the past few days and now have something to show for it. The script needs to be placed in the DarkRadiant/scripts/commands folder to show up in the scripts menu. Download It iterates over everything selected and exports all brushes and patches. This should make vertex blending terrain a cinch. Just construct terrain however you please, export it, load it into a modeling program and vertex paint it.

  11. Evening regarding the following entity - models/darkmod/lights/non-extinguishable/grill_light.lwo After copy and pasting said entity the light source center adjustment 'dot' wont highlght(go from green to blue) and let me adjust it. I then changed the position of the center via the property editor, but in when in-game it remains unchanged.. any idea's..?

This is the most awesome thing I've seen in awhile. It's like spline modelling, but not nearly so turgid when converting down to polygons.

      I gotta try this out.
