  1. You can try my alternative footstep sounds package which addressed the things you described together with a lot of other footstep sounds both for player and AI if you want to. https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/17631-new-footstep-sounds/
  2. It definitely seems like a neat device. I personally have no interest in actually using something like it so I see no reason to get it. However there are two things that stick out to me: (1) If I were a kid this would be a the perfect on-ramp to PC gaming. It's cheap (a decent GPU costs more than this) and has everything you need integrated (screen, battery, IO)--imagine if in the 90s you could get a fully capable PC for just $225 ($400 adjusted for inflation). It's powerful enough to play the latest games and FSR will extend its life span. It's simple/streamlined through SteamOS but you can hack around with it as you can any PC. You can upgrade the storage and bring it to a friend's house (which the kids love I guess--mobility doesn't matter to me). And when you're ready to take off the training wheels, you can connect a mouse, keyboard, and external monitor. And then longer term you'll be primed to buy a desktop PC. I see a lot of Valve enthusiasts lining up with reservations to buy this thing "just because it's a cool device" but I hope Valve goes out of their way to market this to kids--that's where this could be really successful (I'm thinking a lot of these existing Steam users won't actually use it much because ... why not just use your PC?) (2) This will hopefully warm AMD up to the idea of making cheap PC gaming SoCs. Consoles are cheap not just due to subsidization but also due to the efficiencies that come with the tight integration of mass produced SoCs. And most PC gamers don't even upgrade their PCs--they just buy a whole new system all at once, so the direct benefits of modularity and specialization are lost on them. So if Valve could convince AMD to make SoCs with performance in line with the major consoles (that's the target games are designed around anyway), that could go a long way toward making decent PC gaming systems cheaper. Right now just a decent GPU costs as much as a modern console. From what Gabe has stated, they're probably even subsidizing this thing--which helps justify their 30% take if this is the direction they're going.
  3. Mods can this moved again? @Acolytesix- can you make sure you post in the beta thread instead of this one please (this one is public, the beta thread is only for logged-in forum members): https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/21822-beta-testing-high-expectations/
  4. sure - I would only ask that you follow the thread to make sure you don't report stuff that has already been mentioned: https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/21822-beta-testing-high-expectations/
  5. I've been working on upgrading our townsfolk character like I did with the Thug last update. I've updated the model itself as well as all the possible skins (and I've added about half a dozen new variations). I don't know how well you can see the details below (image can be enlarged): List of changes: * remodeled the shoulder cowl and created new textures for it * changed the layout of the uv-maps to allow more space for the tunic (allowing finer details). * redid all the textures with added details like trims, stitching, edge wear, ambient occlusion, etc * fixed some bad texturing * combined several textures together, so that only 3 different materials are referenced, rather than 7 (should lessen the load times) * fixed the shadowmesh that was poking through the back * fixed the weighting on the shoulders so they move more naturally * added more polys to the butt so it deforms more naturally when sitting * altered the mesh of the belt and rope belt to add more details
  6. The spoiler tags aren't for you, it's for the rest of us reading this thread so WE don't get spoiled. Thanks for spoiling the frobbable book on a shelf for the rest of us. EDIT: I'll be unsubscribing to this thread to avoid further spoilers. Maybe I'll check back after I've finished the mission Amadeus
  7. Google mobile is on the forums online user lists (in addition to google)... never seen that before

      nbohr1more

He's a pretty cool guy. You ask him to find stuff and he'll usually turn up the goods. A little nosy though...

  8. heh i was thinking the same though it might just have been a glitch when writing the names are pretty similar. But for correctness it is called the dark engine and the newer version that allows us to run these beauties on win10/11 is called newdark. newdark is kinda interresting as it just suddenly popped up on a french forum some time ago by an anonymous developer with the alias le corbeau who allegedly got his hands on the original source code and started updating it for modern OS. this was the original thread i believe -> https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=140085 bikerdude was on that forum to when the patch hit i noticed hehe.
  9. Personally I think this is the worst idea ever. The Reason forums has LOADS of info and knowledge, built up through years and years. I'm really sad to see it go away, and I can't understand why they've made this decision. https://www.propellerheads.se/forum/showthread.php?p=1579099#poststop
  10. Welcome to the New Mappers Workshop! This is a communal workshop for new mappers who have never made a TDM mission before. Each week or two I will make a tutorial video and help to guide everyone through the process of creating a small, complete mission. I'm hoping the participants will feel free to ask questions, no matter how small--we're all here to learn from and encourage each other. Since I expect this thread to get fairly busy, I'm going to be heavy-handed about removing off-topic content. ====================================================================================================================================================================== Lessons often include links or other written instructions; direct links to the lessons are collected below: Lesson 1: Planning http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18945-tdm-new-mappers-workshop/?p=407999 Lesson 2: Visportals http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18945-tdm-new-mappers-workshop/?p=408253 Lesson 3: Your First Room http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18945-tdm-new-mappers-workshop/?p=408484 Lesson 4: Decorating Your Rooms http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18945-tdm-new-mappers-workshop/?p=408785 Lesson 5: Connecting Your Rooms http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18945-tdm-new-mappers-workshop/?p=409215 Lesson 6: Outdoor "Rooms" http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18945-tdm-new-mappers-workshop/?p=409322 Lesson 7: Creating Doors http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18945-tdm-new-mappers-workshop/?p=409547 Lesson 8: Functional Props (ie, entities) http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18945-tdm-new-mappers-workshop/?p=409731 Lesson 9: Immersive Details (sound/particles) http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18945-tdm-new-mappers-workshop/?p=410258 Lesson 10: Advanced Brushwork (ladders/water) http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18945-tdm-new-mappers-workshop/?p=410667 Lesson 11: AI http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18945-tdm-new-mappers-workshop/?p=411192
  11. Cleaning Up the Neighborhood by some1stoleit, bikerdude Brief Description: A small-medium sized assassination mission, taking place in a bar and casino environment with streets surrounding the bar. Story: Crime is out of control in my neighbourhood, when thugs attacked my wife I decided I can no longer stand by idly. Unable to rely on the corruptible city watch and the aloof Builders, I must take matters into my own hands. My first target is a bar called the Scoundrel’s Rest which is not far from my home. It’s owned by a man named Godfrey and considered neutral ground to the various criminal factions inhabiting the city district. There is no doubt its presence attracts criminals towards my neighbourhood, contributing to the infestation of crime. Infiltrating the bar not only creates the opportunity to kill Godfrey and shut it down for good but also allows me to find information about the rest of criminal groups that inhabit my neighbourhood. I gave my thieving days when I met my wife, but for her sake I must take up the profession once more and prowl in the shadows again. Notes/Tips: Your lock picks are noticeably old, so you can’t rely on them to get you past every door. Examine the environment and keep an eye out for keys on pockets. If you see a pipe outside, chances are you can climb up it.On Rusty and Practiced difficulty settings there's a map available for the bar’s ground level and the street surrounding it.It should be possible to ghost the every area in the mission. A small amount of loot however may be difficult or impossible to acquire without knockouts. There are a few hidden optional objectives you can discover. Screenshots Download Mirrors: https://www.dropbox.com/s/rbiashq1c1k56ns/Cleaning%20Up%20the%20Neighbourhood%20v1.0.zip?dl=0 https://mega.nz/#!bMtgiSra!Y1KXGovfYfdtG1xxRkmPYndLxgq7wMNVr8oENnS2Qxg FAQ: I dislike when I get stuck on an FM and have to leave the game to scroll through forums to find out what to do. I think the mission should be straightforward enough to beat without answers, but I will provide a FAQ if it’s needed. Just be sure to give a good try working it out yourself before reading this. Thanks: I’ve found the TDM community very welcoming and helpful as a new member and would like to thank several people. Bikerdude, for allowing me to collobarate with him and showing me a different way to build maps from scratch in Dark Radiant, as well as many other mapping techniques.Resources:Springheel, for his Modules and his retroactive permission to use New Job street segments.Amadeus, for doing some proofreading of the briefing and readables.Obsttorte, for his objective checking script used for one of the optional objectives.Rsoul, for creating new internal version of architecture models.Beta Testers:Amadeus, Cambridge Spy, Abusimplea, Shadow, Boiler’s_hiss, nbohr1more, Springheel, JudithPeople who helped Answer my Questions:Destined, JackFarmerSpecial thanks to Sotha and Springheel whose video tutorial series give me the guidance and confidence to start using Dark Radiant.I apologise if I missed anyone, if I missed you please do contact me and I’ll credit you appropriately. About the Development: Initially this was a solo developed mission made by myself, upon some beta testing I agreed to make the mission collaboration with Bikerdude, with the intention to learn good mapping practices from the collaboration. The mission was redesigning using the same layout as the original but using Springheel’s modules instead of my very simple brushwork, and expanded in scope to include a more detailed street, a canal, a sewer and a rooftop segments. Bikerdude’s use of springheel modules and custom skins is mostly responsible for the beautiful visuals, with my contribution being the layout of areas and the writing. Known Issues: None at the moment.
  12. Interesting, although I'm not sure what to make of that. One of my favorite games (The Chronicles of Riddick Assault on Dark Athena) was published by Atari, and, they don't even seem to care to keep the activation servers running much. Or remove/change the copy protection, which doesn't work at all on Windows 11. I really hope that Nightdive delivers at the end of May... I'm not one of the shit storm crowd (it's absolutely horrible on the Steam forums...), but, 7 years of development is a long time, and delaying the release obviously has become a bit of a habit, to say the least.
  13. Also found it pretty comical that he would refuse to upgrade his OS and Hardware, but in a post about making models, told people to buy new computers.
  14. Well, MS paint should actually be barely "good enough" for just cropping and resizing screenshots. GIMP actually is absurdly slow to start. Seriously, it should just start fast and do the font loading and shit in the background - like every single IDE does. Imagine JetBrains' Raider or Microsoft's Visual Studio only letting you start coding after the full code base has been reindexed at every start... I also get that staying on Windows 7 forevor thing - i myself delayed the upgrade until the last security update. He probably isn't as paranoid as me, so may very well stay on windows 7 till his favorite games stop supporting it. Not sure if really a Microsoft fanboy or just baiting with that "premium MS software" stuff though... GIMP actually is absurdly slow to start. Seriously, it should just start fast and do the font loading and shit in the background - like every single IDE does. Imagine JetBrains' Raider or Microsoft's Visual Studio only letting you start coding after the full code base has been reindexed at every start... Looks to me like an old dog trying hard to not learn any new tricks (including a sense for whether you currently trigger the wrong people in a forum - the mods). While i sense some trolling in that thread - he basically just delivered what has been asked for. Just one of the less abbrasive discussions on the Internet. So he posted about politics or other taboos outside the Off-Topic board? Well RIP then. He should have known better. Respect for achieving that ignore count though. I hadn't the impression that this community is easy on the trigger. But i also don't know how many ignore me...
  15. Hi, Hope you can help. I thought there was an updater within the TheDarkMod launcher. I see 2.10 is released and would like to update When I open the launcher, at the first page is show "TDM 2.09/64" at the bottom left corner When I click on that, it says I have the latest update. So.. how can I upgrade to 2.10 and make use of all the hard work you guys have put into making this update? Thanks
  16. When I tried your .exe, I got this: https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/21477-water-effects-not-rendered-through-warp-glass/&do=findComment&comment=475732 You also suggested trying the 'latest development build'. I asked if that can be obtained using tdm_installer, and you said 'yes'. That's what I reported here: https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/21477-water-effects-not-rendered-through-warp-glass/&do=findComment&comment=475856 So - I am probably doing something wrong but not sure what
  17. TDM 2.08 is ready for beta test In order to update, you have to download tdm_mirrors.txt file. Note that this file will change with every beta release, unlike previous years. Windows, Full Install: 1 - Create a darkmod folder anywhere you like. 2 - Download the TDM Updater. Extract tdm_update.exe from the downloaded ZIP and place it in your darkmod folder. 3 - Download a special tdm_mirrors.txt file and place it in your darkmod folder. 4 - Start tdm_update.exe. Remember to use the --keep-mirrors setting when running tdm_update. (On the main window, click the "Advanced Options" button and check the first box.) Windows, 2.07 to 2.08 Upgrade: 1 - Download a special tdm_mirrors.txt file and place it in your darkmod folder. 2 - Start tdm_update.exe. Remember to use the --keep-mirrors setting when running tdm_update. (On the main window, click the "Advanced Options" button and check the first box.) Linux, Full Install: 1 - Create a darkmod folder anywhere you like. 2 - Download the Linux version of the TDM Updater and extract it to your darkmod folder. 3 - Download a special tdm_mirrors.txt file and place it in your darkmod folder. 4 - Make tdm_update.linux64 executable: "chmod +x tdm_update.linux64" 5 - Run the updater. Remember to use the --keep-mirrors setting. Linux, 2.07 to 2.08 Upgrade: 1 - Download a special tdm_mirrors.txt file and place it in your darkmod folder. 2 - Run the updater. Remember to use the --keep-mirrors setting. Config reset: After update is over, delete your darkmod.cfg file to reset all settings (better backup it beforehand). Notes 1 - This effort is to find out if we broke anything in TDM with our 2.08 changes, if a new 2.08 feature isn't working correctly. We won't be trying to fix bugs that have been around for a long time. The best that could be done now for such old-living bugs is to create an issue in bugtracker (if not yet present). 2 - If you find something wrong and still have 2.07 version in your hands, please test the same thing in 2.07. 3 - Please try to be specific when reporting a problem. What you were doing, where you were when the problem occurred, can you reproduce it, etc. This wiki article provides many suggestions for good bug reports. Thank you for testing !

I've been considering reinstalling TDS for a wile now... I've still got my original CDs. Have these guys fixed the bug where you get stuck floating? Last time I played TDS, that happened and I was unable to get out of it, so I ragequit.

You can surpass that bug by drawing your bow, performing a shot, and draw your blackjack when the bow is tensioned, to abort the bow shot. I'm hoping it's fixed in the Gold patch too though. Alongside the thing where you move sideways, when peeking left or right.

      @Biker Hmm.

      Build TDM mission in DR.

      Export as portions as ASE

Edit in Blender and export in TDS compatible format

      Import into T3ED

      Edit

      Release TDS mission...

      (or just stick with TDM)

  18. (Yes, I'll upgrade to 3.0.0 later today. Sorry if this has changed.) I'm just wondering: Is it really necessary to list the names of every single extension of my graphics card, in the Dark Radiant log? ...because even though they're all on a single line, just look at the line: No other line even comes close to this line. If it's important, then it's important, but if it's not, can't you just print "2022-06-16 11:33:49 (13468) GL_EXTENSIONS: 376 found."?
  19. This is a thread for members to post inofficial hotfix patches in. These hotfixes are for people who want to keep using stable official releases of The Dark Mod and Dark Radiant, but with somewhat less bugs. These patches will overrule parts of the official release, and are therefor only compatible with the specific version of TDM/DR that they were created to patch. It is therefor necessary that you keep track of which hotfixes you installed, and uninstall them all when you upgrade to a new TDM/DR version. If any bugs persist in a future version, it's best to wait for a new patch to be released for that version. At time of writing, the official released versions are The Dark Mod version 2.10, and Dark Radiant version 2.14.0. When posting a patch, please include which version it is for. (Patches for developer versions are allowed, but don't expect those versions to last long.) Developers, keep in mind that while these patches will point you in the direction of a problem, the patch solution will sometimes differ from an official release solution. (For example, we can't rename packaged files, and so we have to sometimes refer to badly named ones.) It's possible that I - Nort - will be the only one posting these patches, and I'm fine with that. Update After having worked out a lot of patches during these past weeks, I've attached version 1.0 of my hotfix pack to this post. This pack makes all my previous hotfixes obsolete. Details about what they contain, are in the included release notes, because the list is too long to post here. The main features is the fixed console warnings, as well as the fixed mages. (Do not miss these mages. They are eating apples and everything.) If you have any questions about any changes, just ask. Version: The Dark Mod 2.10, Dark Radiant 2.14.0 Small correction: The release notes should say: "This new file creates defines several placeholder shaders. Placeholder shaders are mesh defaults which skins can refer to without risking conflicts with other meshes sharing the same skin. They are not simply misnamed shaders, or deprecated legacy shaders." Update Dark Radiant version 3.0.0 released today, so my patch version 1.0, only stayed relevant for about 24 hours. ...and that's fine. A great changelog of Progress, is all I ever wanted. While devs should still download my patch to see if everything in my patch change log has been addressed (which I doubt), normal users should instead go download Dark Radiant 3.0.0, where every change is official. Once I've assembled enough mental strength to begin over from the beginning again, I will start working on the next patch. It will likely take a shorter time to make this time. Update Remember, before uninstalling any def files, to first remove any entities they have created, mainly the noble and mage ragdolls. If Dark Radiant can't find the definitions for entities, it won't display them in the map. I don't know if they still remain in the code, and you probably don't want invisible obsolete entities in your map, so it's cleanest to remove the entities from the map before removing the patch files. Update I've decided to post-pone any further development until Dark Radiant release 3.1.0. The 3.0.0 was a big update, and big updates will typically come with smaller unforeseen issues. One such issue is that whole numbers aren't being displayed properly. It's thankfully only a cosmetic issue, but since it's so in-your-face, I think that the devs are likely dealing with other issues as well, and that the next update will be coming as soon as possible. ...so I think 3.1.0 will be more stable, and will come soonish.
