This looks cool, somehow oldschool in a nice way.

I hope the gameplay is unique to justify him reinventing the wheel instead of, e.g., just forking off of us. The art design looks good.

  1. Guys, is there any list of FMs that are tested to be compatible with 2.0?
  2. Such as referencing a character or location (or whatever) from another FM in, for example, a dialogue between NPCs or a book. For example, a citywatch guard talking to a clergy: - "Oh, you taffer! You don't know what you're saying. Arch Bishop Lavonte was a real bugger." Can we do this? Or even should we? It might be interesting to see stories relate to each other more often. In fact, it might be interesting to see a skyrim-like meta-world be born out of community/dev-team projects.

Part two is recorded. Now I only need to add the subs and rip it down. Should be on youtube tomorrow.

I didn't know that first trick setting up the base, so thanks for that.

  3. Anyone interested in categorizing our FMs by type (City, Forest, Mansion, Church, etc)? It would be a really useful list to have. See this thread: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/14846-fm-list-by-type/

      Obsttorte

We may cut this down to some basic categories and specify them a bit more.

    2. demagogue

      demagogue

Ok. Note there are 2 jobs here. For the TTLG thread, we need to use their categories. For our own purposes we can do whatever after that.

  4. Are there any T3 FMS worth playing?

Any of the ones Judith has worked on, such as the one mentioned by Lowenz. Drop me a PM and I will download all the best ones and put them on a dvd/s and stick them in the post for you.

Also: The Bridge; The Cabal campaign

  5. Finally got time to play some FMs :D~

  6. With 3 TDM FMs released last month and two currently in beta (not forgetting 2.0 on the horizon) are we looking at some sort of TDM golden age?

My first FM is on its way too. Coming along much better than the last as well.

      Can't wait for 2.0!

    3. Goldwell

      Goldwell

I am very excited for 2.0! And I agree there have been so many fantastic maps released/up & coming. It fills me with so much inspiration towards my map whenever I play through all of the excellent FMs we have here

    4. Diego

      Diego

I can't wait to get my hands on these FMs!

  7. Buying the GoG.com Thief games. Never played any Thief FMs. No idea where to start.

Ah 1.21 DOES have an FM loader, but you have to activate it in an ini file first.

    3. jaxa

      jaxa

Do you like the built-in FM loader any better than DarkLoader? (keep in mind I haven't played T2 in a while or used NewDark yet)

    4. Glyph Seeker

      Glyph Seeker

I've never used a mission loader before - it seems easy and it all works nicely!

  8. Love your signature over at the Eidos forums. Hahaha!

    1. Maijstral

      Maijstral

I don't normally even use signatures, but I've used a few to voice my displeasure at what EM is doing to Thief. I'll probably stick with that one until I lose interest in visiting the EM forums.

  9. Darkmod saves one FM.pk4 in Doom3\darkmod\fms and one again in Doom3\FM - so can I delete one of them to save diskspace? Does the game even use the fms folder after extracting the pk4 to Doom3\FM ? FM = name of the fan mission I need to clean up my hard drive
  10. I seem to have lost my collection of FMs for T1/2/DS. What a shame. I had gigabytes of them.

I have the latest set of Komag DVDs and it's one of the best things a taffer could spend money on.

  11. As odd as it is... as I play the Thief 2 FMs more, I am starting to understand where all the Shadowhide's cricism came from in the first place. The missions are really complicated and well done, you don't get this much of complexity these days...

ST has a point I thinks. On the other hand... I wouldn't even WANT to play a HUGE complex FM. No time for such commitment.

Sometime's a Lord Alan's factory sized FM is just right. Like the weekend

Now players will not onlyget spit on while hiding, they will be pissed on too!

  12. I thought this might be a good idea. Anyone can go over to TTLG and find threads recommending classic Thief FMs eg Calendras Legacy, Seven Sisters etc. I thought it might be helpful to have a thread recommending recent Thief FMs that are worth playing. Sometimes RL gets too busy and we dont always have time to play every FM that gets released. Also this thread can continue getting updated. Please include a brief discription about the FM. T2 FM; Cryptic Realms by Sensut - Crypt FM with beautiful details and great atmosphere. There is a colour and black and white version of this. I recommend playing the black and white version first. T2 FM: Better Off Dead by Sensut - 2 part campaign. The first part takes part in a haunted monastry and second part in The Maw of Chaos. T2 FM: A Better Tomorrow by DrK - A black and white city FM with a survival horror theme. Actually quite scary. T2 FM: Precious by AntiMatter16 - A small city FM. This proves that it isn't the size that counts but what you do with it. T2 FM: Pestis Cruentia by Haplo - A zombie FM that takes place in part of the TDS city hub which is remade in DromEd. Rope arrows now work along with the ability to swim in water. T2 FM: Finals at the Academy by Larry G - Prequel about Garretts life while he was training to be a keeper. Be warned - there's a Hell of a lot of readables in this.
  13. I felt frustrated trying to play some T2 FMs now

Its light is baked, so it feels a bit abstracted from the world.

    3. SeriousToni

      SeriousToni

Its light is baked?? I thought it was dynamic like the fire elementals light o_O Diego, if you have problems with the light you might want to use the DDfix and stuff like that wich solved it for me!

    4. demagogue

      demagogue

Only a few lights are dynamic, like you say elementals & lanterns, etc, and those are easier to avoid too. But all normal lamps & torches that don't move are baked.

  14. Okay, y'all should release 1.09beta to us. Soes that we can help by playing FMs... and identifying missing assets (and general debugging).

  15. Ok, now that v1.07 has hit the streets, lets talk about translating the existing FMs. This thread should focus only on the technical aspects, e.g. not the "does the mapper want it", "do I need permission" etc questions. These should be dealt with in the specific FM threads (http://forums.thedar...m-fan-missions/), or in PM. The documentation about the process is on the wiki (Translating_Fan_Missions and Internationalization). It was, however, written by someone very familiar with the topic, so it might be confusing, or incomplete. Please post here if you have any questions. There is also this thread which documents the whole work that went into this - but beware, it might be confusing as it is overly long and also details the many failed attempts at solving some of the problems: http://forums.thedar...ng-the-tdm-gui/ There is also a small range of already converted/translated missions here http://www.bloodgate...m/pub/pk4/i18n/ - over time, this will hopefully expand. A few general remarks: * The FM needs to be "converted" to make the translation easier. After this step, the entire readable/string/whatever content is stored in a file strings/fm/english.lang - and only this file needs to be translated. Thus the content and the translation are sep. This means it is easier to update the translation because you don't need to touch the FM again. * If possible, strings from the core dictionary should be used - this means the translators need not to re-translate these strings for each FM and language * If there are images with text on, you need to draw a new version for each language - and you also need to setup the GUI so this image is used. In case of maps, you need to make a material shader per language and then use a string like "#str_20000" "the_map_material_en" (which can be "translated" to "#str_20000" "the_map_material_de"). This way each language uses a different material, which then shows the correct image. And one final note, I am not online from Dec. 1st to Dec. 6th, possible longer. I might read the public forum in this time, but I can't answer you
  16. Evening Got TDM 1.08 working on my macbook air, but where the hell is it saving the missions to..? as its not in the darkmod/fms folder.. ta.
