  1. I need some opinions here. In mansions like the following images, with white walls, what kind of texture do you suppose that is? Is it plaster? Painted wood? Marble? Can anyone suggest any existing textures that would be suitable? Everything I've tried so far either looks too dirty (not good for a rich interior) or too pure white (which looks artificial). http://winnerhospitality.com/Photo-Gallery/images/Buhl-Mansion-Photos/Interiors-Spa/Buhl-Mansion-Parlour-Foyer.jpg http://www.blogcdn.com/realestate.aol.com/blog/media/2012/10/screen-shot-2012-10-09-at-3.18.27-pm.png
  2. So I'm now getting back into adding models into TDM but the referred Compressionator from ATI doesn't work on my system. Is it an absolute must to run the diffuse as a DDS? Sadly I'm not having a lot of luck finding an application to handle this (since DDS seems to be an outdated format). I may try looking into some of the Photoshop extensions but are there any suggestions?
  3. What's going on with the Thi4f forums? They've been down for almost a week now.

Well that's not going to work. If they can't post about Thi4f on the Thi4f forums they can come and post about TDM on the TDM forums.

People thought it was the server migration under Square-Enix that we've been told about, but they came back online like nothing happened, and the dedicated thread about the coming migration had no new info.

      Can't see this?:

maybe it was a migration test, and it broke.

  4. Holy crap are we getting another download spike? The forums keep going intermittent on me.

The forums aren't on the same servers as the downloads.

"for some reason" I imagine is you being sarcastic as we all know everybody and their brother/sister are online on Sunday either shopping or looking at porn combined with all the gaming packets.

I'm sure there are also people just "reading things for the articles" though...

    Forums fixed

Had a problem with the web server yesterday that led to a crashed table in the forum database. This has now been repaired and things seems to work again. I was on travel so it took a while before I was able to fix it. Merry Christmas!
  6. I can get on the main forum now but still get an error when trying to load posts. Anyone else?

  7. Yes, you are still viewing The Dark Mod Forums I've just finished the upgrade of our IPB Board Forums to the latest release. Packed with new features, rewritten code and all that. Have a look around. The skin is currently the default one, but will sooner or later be converted to a darker skin, to fit the Dark Mod universe. Also note that the forums have been moved from http://modetwo.net/darkmod to it's own sub-domain: http://forums.thedarkmod.com - all forum links will still work tho, thanks to Apache's rewrite-plugin. Please report any bugs, requests and comments in this thread. PS: The forums will run a bit slow the first hours as the cache is being rebuilt.
  8. Just a heads up that the header images are now missing from the top of the forum. I suspect due to domain forwarding or something like that?

Have I been hacked or is the site being rebuilt or hacked?
  10. (If this is in the wrong place, could an admin/moderator please move it? Ta.) I went hunting for a metal patina texture and ended up downloading 2 programs. Has anyone else used Genetica textures? They're free and the user license states categorically that they can be used in non-commercial games-- TDM qualifies. The free Genetica Viewer as well as the Wood Workshop can be found here: http://www.spiralgra...iz/products.htm I really wish I had a hundred-odd US$ to spend on Genetica 4.0. Check out their gallery: http://www.spiralgra...biz/gallery.htm To give you an idea of what you can get for free... ...and you can render that texture *and* its bump and noise maps separately. Moreover, you can mess with the settings before render, including seed settings that completely alter the noise pattern spread and type. The Wood Workshop, totally free, is something along the same line, and what it produces is pretty damn realistic (unfortunately I was an idiot and didn't export my last render). Anyway, just putting this here in case others want to grab a couple hundred free textures, a rendering viewer that permits an impressive amount of editing options, and a wood 'factory' that rather much lives up to its name.
  11. Just wanted to say, Hello! From reading through various posts in the forums it seems like a great community and I hope to become a part of it. So I got the hankering for some Thief as of late and stumbled on TDM through some googling. After purchasing Doom 3 through Steam and instaling TDM, I have been nostalgiacly playing through many of the FMs and have also decided to d/l the Radiant editor and start making a mission, maybe many, we'll see. As it turns out also, I just started (today!) my 1 week vacation from work and intend to dive in to the Radiant editor and am currently going through the A-Z wiki on it. A bit of background on me, I 'used' to work in application support till the economic crash a couple years ago and was laid off and am now running a machining center at a local machine shop, using Mastercam daily, 2D/3D stuff and have always wanted to make a mission/game, and decided since I've always enjoyed the Thief series and stealth gameplay so much, this is where I would start. After getting to my third year in Mechanical Technology I changed my major to Information Technology (should have went with straight Computer Science but ahhh hindsight). I've always loved building things and designing things and also really enjoy computers, art, audio, and the entire visual experience as presented to a user. I have created a couple playable maps before using the older source engine editor so I'm vaguely familiar with 3D modeling, skyboxes, lighting, AI pathing, etc. That's been over 10 years ago though. I got familiar with 3dsmax, ProE, Autocad, and Mastercam in my first major during school so that helps a bit when familiarizing with a new editor and as previously mentioned I've dabbled around in the Valve Source editor. I'm also very much looking forward to the Crucible of Omens campaign created by the marvelous talent at TDM and would like to help in any way I can once I'm familiar with the Radiant engine. I can also do many many voices, I've often thought about moving out to Cali from Indiana and finding work in voice-overs, voice acting, etc. All this started as a youngster with little friends, time on my hands, and imaginary friends. Wow that's hard to admit. So anyway, I've been working on a shadowy Garrett voice, and can do guards and some women characters with old, old english, gruff, slippery, sneaky, terrifying, voices and personalities. Just thought I'd mention that as it may be a way that I could contribute early on and would also enjoy. So anyway, too much about me and not enough A-Z wiki, back to the tutorial! Glad to be here and hope for good things to come.
  12. I haven't been around too much recently, but when I do look into the forums every so often, I am always amazed how much progress is being made on the mod. Great work people!

  13. Steps To Reproduce: When you select a texture and then click on camera view and then use the scroll wheel on the mouse, the textures in the texture browser will randomly scroll as well. Steps To Reproduce 1. select any texture. 2. then click on camera view. 3. then star scrolling andf the you find the texture's jump. or 1. select camera view 2. then click on ortho view 3. then star scrolling and the you find the camera jumps. This is extremely aggrivating and severely disrupts workflow. tracker - 0003578
  14. Lost post due to server issues?
  15. From the same guy who made the Thief Gold HD texture mod - http://translate.goo...FNKV0h2owy3YQsg http://www.pcgamer.c...this-week/#null
  16. Been banging my head against the wall on this, Im trying to edit the D3 cave model that I used in St Albans Cathedral. What I have learned today - how to remove and merge vertices. how to extrude a bunch of selected vertices. Whats whats doing my head in is - moving the model around and zooming in and out is complete unintuative compared to DR. How the hell to a texture paint the cave model, I would like to be able to apply the texture in the same way as you can apply colour via vertext painting.
  17. Playing Thief 2 again with the HD texture mod, what a fantastic job they did! Also it made me realize how closed in games are now days, T2 has beautiful open non-linear levels that are still able to narrate a fantastic story.

That link didn't work? Is there a new Tafferpatcher that the link works for as well? The one at TTLG doesn't work? What all is needed to get TGold and T2 to work on a WIN7 machine? Thanks

I never got into BSD, though I've installed it once or twice. This is another reason to check it out.

The BSD's arn't for everyone, but within their goals, simple code and mailing lists lies a lot of goodness and simplicity. I love the underdogs. Anyhoo work will be Linux friendly too. Portability is a cornerstone for good code.
