  1. ...so the mobile data service doesn't work. I load the browser to figure out why; It sends me to a page from the ISP. This page from the ISP fails to load because it tries to connect to fonts.googleapis.com and (as I said) there's a service problem. I block googleapis.com in /etc/hosts and *THEN* I get to see a message that the ISP is experiencing a service outage. I shouldn't need to do that!

everthing seems to go through google, and therefore if everyone is browsing the web you then get a google bottleneck, their servers can't handle the load, so they start to timeout, but web pages still try to load google script. they don't seem to be able to skip google if its not there.

  2. Google mobile is on the forums online user lists (in addition to google)... never seen that before

He's a pretty cool guy. You ask him to find stuff and he'll usually turn up the goods. A little nosy though...

  3. Personally I think this is the worst idea ever. The Reason forums has LOADS of info and knowledge, built up through years and years. I'm really sad to see it go away, and I can't understand why they've made this decision. https://www.propellerheads.se/forum/showthread.php?p=1579099#poststop
  4. Rule number 1: If it doesn't work and you do not understand why, uninstall it completely and install it again. You would be surprised how often this solves problems.

      No, that's rule number 2!

Rule number 1 is: Restart the computer. :)

  5. I got PCI-e pass-through to work in a VM. This means gaming in a VM at native speed. It means I can run Linux and Windows on the machine together and they each get a dedicated video card.

I'm using Qemu on Linux to host. It uses the KVM (kernel virtual machine), to map the hardware. In addition to the graphics card, I mapped through a USB hub and optical drive. You can literally plug two keyboards/mice and monitors into it and host a tournament on one machine.

    3. kano

I use a hardware KVM switch to switch sides. A single button press toggles between Windows and Linux on one keyboard/mouse/monitor. The machine is 6-core with 16 GB of RAM, so I split it in two. (3 cores/8 GB for each side). The machine MUST support VT-D/AMD-V and an IOMMU for it to work.

For anybody that tries this, it seemed like the Windows side was occasionally dying. I would switch to it and it would just be black. The issue is that Windows suspends after a wile by default and I guess QEMU/KVM do not support this because it can't wake. Just turn suspend off in the guest to fix it.

  6. Just wanted to say, Hello! From reading through various posts in the forums it seems like a great community and I hope to become a part of it. So I got the hankering for some Thief as of late and stumbled on TDM through some googling. After purchasing Doom 3 through Steam and instaling TDM, I have been nostalgiacly playing through many of the FMs and have also decided to d/l the Radiant editor and start making a mission, maybe many, we'll see. As it turns out also, I just started (today!) my 1 week vacation from work and intend to dive in to the Radiant editor and am currently going through the A-Z wiki on it. A bit of background on me, I 'used' to work in application support till the economic crash a couple years ago and was laid off and am now running a machining center at a local machine shop, using Mastercam daily, 2D/3D stuff and have always wanted to make a mission/game, and decided since I've always enjoyed the Thief series and stealth gameplay so much, this is where I would start. After getting to my third year in Mechanical Technology I changed my major to Information Technology (should have went with straight Computer Science but ahhh hindsight). I've always loved building things and designing things and also really enjoy computers, art, audio, and the entire visual experience as presented to a user. I have created a couple playable maps before using the older source engine editor so I'm vaguely familiar with 3D modeling, skyboxes, lighting, AI pathing, etc. That's been over 10 years ago though. I got familiar with 3dsmax, ProE, Autocad, and Mastercam in my first major during school so that helps a bit when familiarizing with a new editor and as previously mentioned I've dabbled around in the Valve Source editor. I'm also very much looking forward to the Crucible of Omens campaign created by the marvelous talent at TDM and would like to help in any way I can once I'm familiar with the Radiant engine. I can also do many many voices, I've often thought about moving out to Cali from Indiana and finding work in voice-overs, voice acting, etc. All this started as a youngster with little friends, time on my hands, and imaginary friends. Wow that's hard to admit. So anyway, I've been working on a shadowy Garrett voice, and can do guards and some women characters with old, old english, gruff, slippery, sneaky, terrifying, voices and personalities. Just thought I'd mention that as it may be a way that I could contribute early on and would also enjoy. So anyway, too much about me and not enough A-Z wiki, back to the tutorial! Glad to be here and hope for good things to come.

I've been considering reinstalling TDS for a wile now... I've still got my original CDs. Have these guys fixed the bug where you get stuck floating? Last time I played TDS, that happened and I was unable to get out of it, so I ragequit.

You can surpass that bug by drawing your bow, performing a shot, and draw your blackjack when the bow is tensioned, to abort the bow shot. I'm hoping it's fixed in the Gold patch too though. Alongside the thing where you move sideways, when peeking left or right.

      @Biker Hmm.

      Build TDM mission in DR.

      Export as portions as ASE

Edit in Blender and export in TDS compatible format

      Import into T3ED

      Edit

      Release TDS mission...

      (or just stick with TDM)

I hope the gameplay is unique to justify him reinventing the wheel instead of, e.g., just forking off of us. The art design looks good.

  8. I'm posting this here because in my current emotional state (I'm pretty damn angry! ) I believe that I am incapable of making a rational decision. I've also been posting here since pretty much the birth of TDM and I really appreciate the insights and opinions of the very well educated regular posters that frequent this forum. A couple of weeks ago some chap that was helping me out left for a better a job and I got a replacement, a chap in his mid twenties. We got on very well. He had a good work ethic and provided interesting and well thought out conversation. Pretty much all I ask for in a work colleague. The only problem is that he over steps intimate physical boundaries. In my office (I'm sure it's the same in most work places) there is a no physical contact rule. Unless someone invites you to physically touch them eg someone offers you their hand to shake it, then in under no circumstances whatsoever do you lay a finger on another work colleague. I would also never lay a finger on anyone outside the office without their consent and would expect the same from anyone else. At first this started out as him sneaking up behind me and tickling me. I took this as a playful sign of expression, nevertheless I did explain to him the rules and told him that I did not like this. I could tell that he was not taking me seriously and he continued. As I did not consider this to be physical assault and a physical display off affection (even though it overstepped personal and work policy boundaries) I did not consider it a need to be reported. I still did tell him not to do this every time he did even though I could he was not taking me seriously. Things soon escalated. Last week I took a day off for a minor op and needed stitches. The next day when I returned to the office the young man in question for no reason at all slapped me hard on the back very near to where I had my stitches. To be fair he didn't no I had stitches but but I could tell things were escalating from tickling to more aggressive forms of intimacy. Again I let it slide as no physical harm was technically done and I saw it more as a sign of affection. Yesterday things escalated to a whole new level. I get into work at 7am and the young man in question gets in at 8am. At 8am I was sitting my desk working on my PC with my headphones in listening to music. I did not hear him come in and he walked up to me from behind and slapped me hard across the face with his security pass. Enraged I stood up and started swearing at him like a trooper. How I managed not to punch his light out I'll never know. Somehow behind that rage I still had the sense to know that the short term benefit of getting physical revenge would not be worth the long term suffering of loosing my job and having to find employment elsewhere. Plus the potential of getting a criminal record for assault. To add salt to the wound he refused to apologize and spent the whole morning laughing about it. It was only when I told him at lunch time that I was considering accusing him of physical assault that he apologized. Even now I still get the impression that he thinks I'm over reacting. We have had no arguments or anything while he's been working here and the slap in the face literally came out of nowhere. As these physical encounters are clearly escalating I'm understandably concerned as to where they could go. Should I report this person for assault or am I overeacting here? What if I say nothing and he assaults another work colleague to a more serious degree? That would make me somewhat responsible as I knew he was capable of violence but didn't say anything. I believe I have a moral obligation to report this so as to protect the potential physical well being of my fellow employees as well as myself. Am I over reacting as he says or should this type of behavior not be tolerated?

  9. Hello everyone I am a massive fan of the original Thief series and of course of this amazing mod! I wanted to offer up my voice acting abilities (at least I think so ) to anyone who is interested. I can do a wide range of voices however I just wanted to give an example of narrating an opening for a FM. The following is me reading an excerpt of the description of the FM mission "A Night To Remember" Please pm me or leave a msg here with what you need. Let me know if you want it read slow, fast, old, young, what type of accent anything and I will give it my all. https://soundcloud.com/tylervocals/a-night-to-remember-excerpt

I don't normally even use signatures, but I've used a few to voice my displeasure at what EM is doing to Thief. I'll probably stick with that one until I lose interest in visiting the EM forums.

  11. Im nearly finished fixing/updating my "In Remembrance of Him" mission and I was wondering if there's anyone out there interested (a male person) in voice acting for two quite small lines of monologue, one for a peasant character, and a noble one. It should be pretty simple and fast, just so I can fill a couple of "holes" in the storytelling of the mission. No need to answer here, if there's someone interested, just PM me.
  12. Hi I've recently started doing Let's Plays of The Dark Mod missions, and they've gotten a lot of comments and views. In my latest one, "A Score to Settle", I mentioned on a side note, totally randomly, that it would be fun to do voice acting for a game character. I got a comment from "b1k3rdude" regarding this: "Glad you liked playing SH mission, and yes would love you to do some lines for us, so come on over to the TDM forums and ask for either Spings or myself!" Well, I'm happily taking up that offer, and asking for Springheel or b1k3rdude, hopefully with the result of getting to do some voice acting . Thanks a bunch in advance, I think it sounds like a lot of fun. I've been thoroughly enjoying The Dark Mod with my playthroughs and would love to add something to it. 13. Hi! As you know I'm working on a map. I've also read here on the forums people want more ingame conversations to make the world feel more alive. I've written some custom conversations and Biker and Ocn have already helped me. Thanks guys. Now I need two people who want to do some voice acting. I have a rather simple conversation between two persons, both having something like 6 lines. The level of difficulty for the acting is probably easy, it is a normal conversation, no great emotions need to be expressed. The actors should mimic the following vocal sets for the characters: atdm:ai_vocal_set_simpleton_guard_01 http://www.mindplace...impleton_ex.wav atdm:ai_vocal_set_grumbler_guard_01 http://www.mindplace...grumbler_ex.wav You do not need to replicate the voices exactly, but close enough it doesn't sound totally wrong when comparing the AI voices in the conversation and the normal AI sounds. Thanks! Volunteers, please step forward, enroll in this thread (and tell me which of the voices you want to give a go) and contribute your share to the mod. (Also immortalize your voice in a TDM FM!) I'll send the script via PM to the kind people who want to help.
