Doom 3 modder Wulfen created high resolution texture asset replacements for Doom 3. I'm sure that most won't be of use here but some of the Stone "Hell" textures might. I am not sure about whether these replica textures can be considered "Doom 3 free"???

Some that I have seen are far better than replicas. They add more details and have actually been baked from a real 3d model.

I would say they are safe to use as replacements.

So.. any members here who can post over at Doom3 world wanna ask Wulfen for permission to use these (I am presuming that is a given anyway...)??? ^_^

No TDM doesn't have POM but these textures are higher resolution than the Doom 3 equivalents and have new details. The rock textures would likely be the only real useful ones for TDM but perhaps some of the corroded metal would work as well.

Ah, I'd been waiting for this :)

I'll get in contact with Wulfen (if you haven't already) and see what I can do, they should be pretty much ready for inclusion, just a matter of picking out the important ones and making the TDM-specific materials.

The ones I have used most from the Hell family look a bit different here, though - the originals had a slightly greasy, smoothed look; these are porous and slightly uneven, so the substitution is imperfect. But they are good textures.

I have downloaded and browsed through the pack. There is a nice number of useable textures in there; some metal panels and such, some from the Hell family, and even some web decals.

He released them for people to play with, but not really for reuse or redistribution. He just replied giving permission, so long as theres accreditation - but considering how many textures it is, that's not a problem at all :)

I'll have to wait for the new month to get a new copy of them, since I was browsing them on a drive that I didnt think had anything useful on them, and formatting then installing stuff on it :/ wd me. And then I woke up today and I'm over quota :/

Thanks for the thread-bump - missed this resource.

Decision, decisions. Play around with tiling and texturing some of these pix? Carry on with Fidcal's A - Z? Or have another session in St Alban's Cathedral? (Gonna do StAC right now cuz want to unwind but F's A-Z will probably be main focus for next few days/weeks.)

The Endarchy mod for Doom 3 was recently released:

http://www.doom3world.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=25569&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

Apparently this mod has been through 2 engine changes before settling on Doom 3.

Tigger, the mapper, appears to be a revered figure in the Quake mapping world so

this is pretty "out of the blue" to arrive in Doom 3 with no former notice.

The included textures appear to be reasonably high resolution (256x256 to 512x512)

and have a lot of the dingy grimed appearance that is so sought after here.

There are metal, stone and wood textures that might be suitable.

I requested permission to add these to the mod so hopefully that will be granted.

I got a reply from Tigger.

He gave permission for The Dark Mod to include the textures he created but

could not speak for the ones he got from other sources. He also warned that many

of his textures were modified from Doom 3 versions and thus might pose problems

with the effort to go standalone.

Here is an excerpt from the read me.

Textures

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

A number of diffused textures have been made by others, these people are:

* Randy Reddig, Shader Lab - http://shaderlab.com/

- Textures in the endarchy_slab folder

* Thomas "Q-Fraggel" Creutzenberg

- Textures with the 'qf_' prefix

* Matthew Breit - http://www.lunaran.com/

- Textures with the 'lun_' prefix

* Undulation - (originally designed for Unreal Tournament)

- Textures with the 'und_' prefix

* Anything else was put together by me, including the spec, alpha and

normals for all diffuse textures.

It's probably not worth the effort to track down all these sources. If anyone

dearly wants anything in this collection I can try my best to hunt down further

permission.

What about the Matrixer texture pack (quake 4?), found it somewhere ages ago, cant seem to find the site now, but I was using it as a quick source for 3d model tests in recent days, some of the metal, stone and concrete textures could be useful:

I particularly like this one. Very Quake 1. Other good contenders: the top left texture here, these stone textures, maybe this leather texture.

      The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

      Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

      i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
      tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

      Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
