I just stumbled across this tutorial on normal mapping. I know most everyone here is familiar with normal maps and since I've been working on the mod I've learned a bit, but I never used them before.

Still I have quite a bit to learn and I think this tut is gonna be real handy. Somewhat max specific but there are good photoshop tips too.

Bunch of free medieval textures here: http://www.spiralgraphics.biz/release3-23-09.htm Dunno if the quality is good enough for TDM but maybe there's something salvageable in there.

The usage terms are fine, basically they just want "clear and visible" acknowledgement and a link to their site.

My games | Public Service Announcement: TDM is not set in the Thief universe. The city in which it takes place is not the City from Thief. The player character is not called Garrett. Any person who contradicts these facts will be subjected to disapproving stares.

The quality is not particularly good. If someone is looking to add a bunch of good textures, I still have BlackThief's excellent stone/mansion textures somewhere. They just need material shaders, but I keep forgetting to get around to it. If anyone is up for it just let me know.

The Requiem: Avenging Angel Mod (Quake 4) has released all its textures to the community:

Requiem - Avenging Angel - texture pack

There are some brick, stone and maybe metal textures that could be used. It's nearly a gigabyte (uncompressed) of textures so I have only peeked at some of them.

Edit: I have looked through the pack and tried some that could potentially fit into the setting in-game. I must say they're not up to the standards.

There's also www.3d.sk . I've got an account. If there's something there that is absolutely valuable, then I can get it for you, but please don't overwhelm me with links; like, 10 a week, per person, is ok, i guess.

There are so many contradictions and ambiguities in his terms and conditions that effectively nobody can use them except privately in a secret underground bunker. Even that is risky because he says he can change the rules whenever he wants to include underground bunkers. And I thought *I* was paranoid.

Some of his textures made their way into core TDM, though, so what do you know. :)

Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum. -- Collected letters of the Smith-in-Exile, Civitas Approved

He's actually a really nice guy on the whole subject when you approach him for a request. I think he's just a bit tired of being burned by people stealing his stuff and using it however they please, and against his wishes. Example: people selling his textures for profit for use in Second Life.

But he needs to re-do his search script. I think it is adding 1 to its total found so if it finds zero then...

"1 image found - nothing found in database".

OK, click this spyglass again. Now it says there are 2 images but still nothing in the database. Click again now it says there are 3.

Still, some useful stuff there maybe.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
