  1. I don't have a bugtracker account, so no I don't believe there is any tracking for this. I'd be willing to do the actual write-ups, but I'd need to be inducted as a bugtracker person or have someone paste them in for me. I think I'd make three separate tickets at this point? 1. flashbombed state increases the blackjacking radius (the original post) 2. flashbombed state plays its animations properly (wellingtoncrab's june 9th reply here: https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/22738-proposal-flashbombed-ais-become-blackjackable/#findComment-502037 ) 3. flashbombs deal damage to team 9 enemies (undead, not mentioned here but another glaring issue that makes them less useful than their original TG/T2 incarnations)
  2. I post for the first time since January with a detailed response about an important(ish) topic and I get a laugh reaction. In all seriousness though, if one doesn't like DRM they have to be careful posting nowadays since a lot of people have a lot of time invested in games and platforms with DRM of various sorts, and any issues you raise with the game/platform these people will take as personal attacks against themselves, even though it was never intended. Not so bad here, but reddit and Steam forums? Good God. Bruh we both live in Australia, it's not that bad here with regards to the authorities most of the time. I mean it does depend where you live (I'm in SA) but comparing our cops to those in the US is like using a cheat code.
  3. This almost has to do with the normal facings of the model which I can see you are aware as you are posting a picture of the blue normal direction in blender. The catch would be even when the normals are facing the correct direction in blender - it unfortunately doesn't always mean they will be handled correctly by the model exporter. Check a few things: Have you triangulated the model? Quads and ngons will not render correctly in the game. The export tools have a triangulate check box - but I prefer to use the triangulate modifier in blender as that gives you a bit more control and you can actually see the result. Do you have "recalculate normals" selected on export? *Normally* that is fine (get it?), but if the exporter is messing up the normal facings of the model you can try disabling it. Then are you using lwo? *Personally* I have had a lot of issue when importing and exporting lwos in general - and that includes circumstances where the normal direction of the models just would not export correctly - and I actually had to invert the normals in blender (ie all red outward faces) to get them to export correctly into the game. For that reason I currently like using ase over lwo or the newer obj export as it is the most reliably “what you see is what you get “option when working with TDM formats and blender, but that is just my opinion.

I find the performance similar to other demanding TDM missions on my machine, but mileage may vary and my apologies if this prevents anyone from enjoying the mission.* *Iris heavily modifies the behavior of AI in the game, how they relate/respond to each other and the player. So they may act even stranger than they do typically in TDM. Feedback on this is useful - as it can potentially be improved and expanded upon in future patches.* -=- This is my first release and it has been a long time coming! 5. Hrm I wasn't able to type on *after* the spoiler and accidentally already submitted the reply.. (Does this forum somewhere have a raw mode where you type text with tags around them or something instead of this broken WYSIWYG editor?) Anyway, what I was gonna add: This was a great mission and I already played Away1 - I'm really looking forward to Away2, want to see how the story goes on
  6. This post differentiates between "gratis" ("at no monetary cost") and "libre" ("with little or no restriction") per https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gratis_versus_libre * A libre version of TDM could: ** Qualify TDM for an article on the LibreGameWiki *** TDM is currently listed as rejected https://libregamewiki.org/Libregamewiki:Rejected_games_list because "Media is non-commercial (under CC-BY-NC-SA 3.0). The engine is free though (modified Doom 3) (2013-10-19)" ** Qualify for software repositories like Debian *** TDM is currently listed as unsuitable https://wiki.debian.org/Games/Unsuitable#The_Dark_Mod because 1) "The gamedata is very large (2.3 GB)", and 2) "The license of the gamedata (otherwise it must go into non-free with the engine into contrib)" and links to https://svn.thedarkmod.com/publicsvn/darkmod_src/trunk/LICENSE.txt Questions: 1) tdm_installer.linux64 is 4.2 MB (unzipped), which is far from the 2.3 GB which is said to be too large. Yes, the user can use it to download data that is non-libre, but so can any web browser too. If the installer itself is completely libre, does anyone know the reason why it cannot be accepted into the Debian repository? 2) If adding the installer to the repository is not a viable solution, would it be possible to package the engine with a small and beginner friendly mission built only from libre media/gamedata into a "TDM-libre" release, and add user friendly functionality to download the 2.3 GB media/gamedata using "TDM-libre" (similar to mission downloading)? 3) Would such a "TDM-libre" release be acceptable for the Debian repository? 4) Would such a "TDM-libre" release be acceptable for LibreGameWiki? 5) Would the work be worth it? * Pros: Exposure in channels covering libre software (e.g. the LibreGameWiki). Distribution in channels allowing only libre software (e.g. the Debian repository). * Cons: The work required for the modifictions and release of "TDM-libre". Possible maintenance of "TDM-libre". I'm thinking that the wider reach may attract more volunteers to work on TDM, which may eventually make up for this work and hopefully be net positive. 6) Are there any TDM missions that are libre already today? If not, would anyone be willing to work on one to fulfill this? I'll contribute in any way I can. 7) I found the following related topics on the forum: * https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/16226-graphical-installers-for-tdm/ (installing only the updater) * https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/16640-problems-i-had-with-tdm-installation-on-linux-w-solutions/ (problems with installation on Linux) * https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/17743-building-tdm-on-debian-8-steamos-tdm-203/ (Building TDM on Debian 8 / SteamOS) * https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/18592-debian-packaging/ (Dark Radiant) ... but if there are other related previous discussions, I'd appreciate any links to them. Any thoughts or comments?

  9. @kalinovka, I'm assuming your TTF font codepoints are those of Unicode. A conversion to Win1251 would use this map: https://www.unicode.org/Public/MAPPINGS/VENDORS/MICSFT/WINDOWS/CP1251.TXT The lower 128 are just ASCII, where Unicode and Win1251 use the same number. The upper 128 contain both the 90 codepoints you mentioned (starting with 1025 aka 0x0401), interposed with other characters. A proper rendering for TDM would include all these characters. It is possible that some old-school font editor already has an export profile for Win1251. As for hacking up a variant of ExportFontDoom3All256, you'd need to write a static array, holding Unicode values from CP1251.TXT. You could just do the upper 128 if you want, as shown next. Example: const static unsigned long UnicodeFor1251::array[] = { 0x0402, // 0x80 CYRILLIC CAPITAL LETTER DJE 0x0403, // 0x81 CYRILLIC CAPITAL LETTER GJE ... // more tedious or fancy editing here } Then the code loop would be something like [NOT TESTED]: // Export all characters. unsigned long sourceCharacterCode; for (int outputCharacterCode = 0; outputCharacterCode < Font::numCharactersToExport; outputCharacterCode++) { if(outputCharacterCode < 128) sourceCharacterCode = outputCharacterCode; else sourceCharacterCode = UnicodeFor1251[outputCharacterCode - 128]; bool okay = exportCharacter(sourceCharacterCode, outputCharacterCode); if (!okay) { std::cerr << "Error: Unable to export character " << getCharacterCodeString(characterCode) << "." << std::endl; return false; } } ... Further down in FontExporter.cpp, more changes... bool FontExporter::exportCharacter(unsigned long sourceCharacterCode, outputCharacterCode) // WAS single parameter characterCode { Doom3GlyphDescriptor* doom3GlyphDescriptor = 0; // Get the index of the glyph that represents this character. int glyphIndex = self.font->getGlyphIndexForCharacterCode(sourceCharacterCode); // WAS characterCode ... // Create a descriptor for the current glyph. doom3GlyphDescriptor = &self.doom3GlyphDescriptors[outputCharacterCode]; // WAS characterCode ... } After a successul export, there's still lots more testing and tweaking to be done, e.g., with datBounds, refont, if you want best character spacing and presentation. Also, TDM treats codepoint 0xFF specially, as mentioned in https://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=I18N_-_Charset
  10. Just to complicate your life, there are 3 additional aspects to consider about the circa-2014 Mason files, and subsequent circa-2017 improvements to the 'english' version perhaps applicable to your work. (These issues are covered in the wiki "Mason Font" article, with a bit more in my "Analysis of 2.12 TDM Fonts", https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/22427-analysis-of-212-tdm-fonts/. The 2017 changes can be seen in the *current* 2.13 TDM English Mason files.) 1) Need for custom DAT-scaling on certain Mason characters The source TTF had upper-case and lower-case characters that were early-on considered too similar to size. So (before 2014) in the DAT, selective per-character scaling was used to differentiate them. See https://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=Font_Metrics_%26_DAT_File_Format#Per-Character_Font_Scaling for details. As you add new characters, you should do likewise (relatively easy with refont). 2) Creating the "glow" of mason_glow How Tels created the glow (for 'english' carleton & mason) is discussed in reasonable detail here: https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/12863-translating-the-tdm-gui/page/5/#findComment-262661 That could be done for Russian too, which I recall currently fakes a glow, and possibly would require a minor GUI or engine code change to use. Note: To best accommodate glow and retain GIMP-visualization-alignment between base and glow characters, Tels moved some base characters within their bitmap, to keep their glyphs 2-3 pixels away from any bitmap edge. You should consider this when placing new base glyphs. Note: For the 3 mason bitmaps doubled in size circa-2017 as discussed next, the mason_glow bitmaps were also doubled. 3) Extensive bitmap editing to solve main menu character jaggedness. On Oct. 5, 2017, @Springheel in https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/19129-menu-update/#findComment-412921 said: "Looking at the Mason fonts, it looks like they were super low res to begin with, and were then just resized [presumably referring to per-character scaling], making them even worse. I'll see what I can do." [Further on, referring to fonts in the TDM menu system:] "It appears that resizing the dds file to make it higher res is possible, so I'll proceed." Later, on Oct 13, 2017, he concluded within a "More detailed list of changes: "Updated the menu fonts, which were surprisingly bad before" Unfortunately, I couldn't find details on how this work was actually done. I assume the bitmap editing was all done in GIMP. It started with doubling the size of certain bitmaps from 256x256 to 512x512. This was done for the first 3 bitmaps (i.e., those with ASCII, some Latin-1). Then characters were made more crisp and smooth-edged. How? Dunno. Also, some odd but harmless artifacts happened within GIMP (noted in https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/22427-analysis-of-212-tdm-fonts/page/3/#findComment-499660)
  11. That's correct but many people just use the in-game mission downloader to check for new stuff without even looking at the forums, which is what I did. In the past a lot of missions that required a newer version of the game executable and assets would tell you this when you tried to start them up. I was just reporting on this and that you don't need to reinstall, just update via tdm_updater if you find this issue.
  12. edit: TL;DR: I've tweaked the .lwo exporter to preserve autosmooth angle Ahem. When I started writing this post a couple of days ago, it was supposed to be a "please help me, models won't smooth" kind of thing, but as I started taking screenshots and such for a comprehensive view of the problem, the question morphed into a "is there a hack to get .lwo's to export the way .ase's do", then to "how to get the same surface smoothing from Blender as you can get from Lightwave" and eventually to "does anyone around know python and blender enough to fix the export plugin". But then I fixed the addon myself, so it was almost as if there's no point to the thread. However, while googling around for a solution I stumbled upon a whole bunch of incomplete (1,2) or outright wrong (1,2) information, and whenever the question came up the issue was never really resolved completely. That might be because the problem isn't obvious, since a lot of exported models will actually end up correctly smoothed on export, leading one to believe wrong shading in rare cases is due to modeling mistakes / bad shadowmesh / etc. Point is, having the definitive .lwo smoothing post seems useful. Identifying the problem: Here's the mesh. I add an 'edge split' modifier (I use sharp edges while modeling the low poly, so I can uncheck the 'edge angle' option). I can now apply the modifier(s) and export to .ase (triple the mesh either in export options or in modifiers beforehand). The .ase looks alright in-game: Now I'll export it to .lwo using this script. Depending on export options, here are the results: If I also check "remove doubles", I'll lose all of the split (sharp) edges: (recalculating normals on export can be unpredictable as well, so clean up the model beforehand instead) Right about this point I start searching for a solution online, stumble upon this and try the renderbump hack. However, all it seems to do is weld all of the vertices back together at runtime and attempt to smooth the whole surface, similarly to "remove duplicates", but with no upper threshold. (to anyone possibly reading this in the future: don't forget to revert your changes to the materials!) Source of the problem: At this point I still wasn't sure if it's even possible to get .lwo's identical to .ase's, so I installed Lightwave. Naturally, it took some time to eventually stumble upon Surface Editor (F5), and the "smoothing threshold" contained therein. But then I just had to crank it up to 180 and export to "LWO2". That fixes everything in-game: So the issue is trivial, I just have to find a way to somehow pass on a smoothing angle through the exporter. However, the "auto smooth" option on the object data tab doesn't seem to affect anything regardless of angle. Long story short, after some hex-comparison magic, I home in on SMAN block in the exporter script: So what it actually does is set your smoothing angle to either 90°, 86°(??), or 0°, depending on whether you've chosen "idtech compatible", "smoothed", or neither. The solution: Now, I don't know Python and I don't know Blender scripting, so I can't say with full certainty that I didn't break anything. But I did cobble together a version of the script that seems to do the job. Here it is, mirror / do whatever you want with it. If your mesh has autosmooth enabled, and you've checked "idtech" or "smoothed" on export, your chosen autosmooth angle will now transfer to the surface in .lwo: I took the liberty of changing the default export options to what seems to suit TDM the best, you can just open the script in notepad and edit them to your taste. Wrapping up, there are still some mysteries I didn't solve, such as "idtech compatible" models taking up only half the size of models exported otherwise (including from Lightwave itself), there doesn't seem to be any visible difference in-game, at least in TDM. That "1.5 radian" in the code still makes me scratch my head. And I still don't know if the 4-8x size savings over .ase matter for in-game memory at all (but at least I know I won't have to edit the *BITMAPs manually anymore). Even after all this, the .ase still has just slightly better shading, but since the outputs of the exporter and Lightwave itself are now identical, seems safe to say it's as good as it gets.
  13. Hi. I'm a long-time Blender user and was wondering if it's possible, in part or in whole, to use Blender to make levels, mostly the level geometry. I understand that NPC, scripting, partitioning, etc would be something better done in DarkRadiant, but I'd like to use Blender to make the buildings, streets, terrain, etc and to place them.
  14. Yes, refont just makes it easier to make changes to a .dat file (via human-editable .ref file). To transform your .tga's into .dds, either - use a converter program (See https://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=DDS_Creation_with_ATI_Compressonator) (recommended) use an image editor, most commonly GIMP (Photoshop will also work). You can read in and then export each file separately. But more typically, with GIMP, all the .tga's associated with one of the three TDM-supported font sizes are read in as separate layers, to a common GIMP project file (saved as an .xcf file). Ordinarily, you set only 1 layer visible. If you do any bitmap editing, the .xcf file becomes in effect the source master. Having all the files together as layers makes it easier to move a glyph (or copy parts of glyphs) from one layer to another. You use GIMP's Export feature (you specify the .dds extension up the top entry part to tell it the format). Be sure to generate mipmaps. See: https://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=DDS_Creation_with_GIMP https://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=Font_Bitmaps_in_DDS_Files particularly "Editing a Bitmap"
  15. I went ahead and tried triangulating and changing my export options to no avail, I did switch from lwo to ase but that didn't change either, I tried doing the obj export thing but for some reason objs werent showing up in dark radiant and I didnt find much info on objs on the wiki so I did the only other trouble shooting method I could think of and imported in the utah teapot model from the university of stanford's computer graphics website and its see through aswell, not sure what this would imply though other than the source of the issue not being the models themselves maybe the way I have my exporter setup is wrong?
  16. I tested this addon for importing and exporting md5.mesh and md5.anim in Blender: https://github.com/KozGit/Blender-2.8-MD5-import-export-addon It works with Blender 3.6.15 which is the latest version in the 3.0 series. It doesn't work with Blender 4.2. It seems that the culprit is the change in the 4.0 series from bone layers to bone collections. Here's an updated .blend file with male NPC animations. .blend file with a female model Like before: use armature_control to animate the model when you're done, select the tdm_ai_proguard armature object and Bake Action to Pose; select Visual Keying for the exporter to work you need to select both the tdm_ai_proguard and a mesh object that's being animated, e.g. proguard_armor
  17. I think here is some info about flinders: https://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=Breakable_objects#What_happens_when_an_entity_dies? So I think you replace the door model with different door pieces that fall to the ground. Maybe it's possible to make a custom one for wood pieces. Also maybe it's good to add a quick smoke particle or something that happens when it breaks so (maybe) you can hide the transition. I wonder if you could set: "def_flinder" "models/darkmod/junk/door01_broken_piece.lwo" "flinder_offset" "0 0 -5" "def_flinder1" "models/darkmod/junk/door01_broken_piece1.lwo" "flinder_offset" "0 0 5" "def_flinder2" "models/darkmod/junk/door01_broken_piece2.lwo" "flinder_offset" "0 5 -5" "def_flinder3" "models/darkmod/junk/door01_broken_piece3.lwo" "flinder_offset" "0 -5 0" Because I think"flinder_count1" probably makes copies and maybe you don't want same looking door pieces. At least that's my idea currently. But I never tried any of this.

  19. Just need to say this This was not true at all for me, when I modeled for Doom 3 at lest, all my lwo models worked fine, including smoothing, thou I use Modo 601 that was the exact modeling tool Seneca a model artist from idSoftware used and I also used his custom Doom 3 exporter pluging for Modo that cleans up and prepares .lwo files to Doom 3 prior to exporting. This is what I do in Modo 601 to export clean lwo files, perhaps helps those using Blender as well. 1 - put model origin at world 0,0 and move model geometry if necessary so its origin is at the place you want, like the model base. 2 - (optional) clean geometry using some automatic system, if available, so your model doesn't export with bad data (like single vertices floating disconnected). 3 - bake all model transforms, so rotation, translation and scale are all put at clean defaults (that will respect any prior scaling and rotation you may have done) 4- (in modo smoothing works this way) go to the material section and if you want your model to be very smooth (like a pipe for example) set material smoothing to 180%, you can set smoothing per material. If you want more smoothing control, you can literally cut and paste the faces/quads and you will create smoothing "groups" or islands that way. 5 - use or select a single model layer and export that (the engine only cares for a single lwo layer) if you want a shadow mesh and collision mesh as well, put them all on the same layer as the main model. 6 - never forget to triangulate model before export (Seneca plugin did that for me automatically) I did this and all my models exported fine and worked well ingame. Thou .lwo was invented by lightwave and Modo was developed by former lightwave engineers/programmers, so perhaps their lwo exporter is/was well optimized/done compared to other 3D tools.
  20. I think we should create a thread where you can put requests and suggestions for Orbweaver. This thread should be NOT a discussion thread. If you want to discuss a proposal, create a specific thread for it. I want it to be only for collecting proposals, so we have an overview of what people might want to have. I guess this might also help Orb to decide what he should focus on once he gets productive. BTW: I really appreciate your effort, because we can really use this. So my personal wishlist proposal is that I would like to see a group handler. Similar like in Blender, where you can select several objects and put it in a group. When you select one or more of these groups, the objects are visible. If the group is not selected, it's invisible. In Blender and other 3D apps this is called layers (forgot the name before so I had to look it up).
  21. Good news is that is appears to me to export fine (and seems like it will be a cool dishonored style model): Bad news would be what the heck is going wrong. Here is a picture of the modifier stack: And the ase export settings: What does your material def for the texture look like? Maybe there is an issue there.
  22. When talking about a possible libre version of TDM (https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/22346-libre-version-of-tdm/) it seems we believe all media/gamedata included in TDM is licensed CC-BY-NC-SA. I am not familiar with how the process of adding new media/gamedata works today; I have seen files uploaded to the bugtracker which developers then commit to SVN, but I don't know if there are other ways. It may be a good idea to implement a process that when new components (media/gamedata included in TDM) are added, the contributor is asked to be explicit about the license (a choice which may defaults to their previous preference, for usability). It won't fix the past, but it may help in the future. This will make it easy for contributors to add future data under a more permissive license if they choose. Libre media can be added and its license can be tracked, rather than assumed to be CC-BY-NC-SA. I suggest looking at how Wikimedia Commons has implemented this: the contributor state the source and license at the time the data is uploaded. This can be done either by providing urls or by saying "It's my work and I choose this licsense". The first step could be to add a way to keep track of each filepath in SVN, author, license, sources. Start by setting the value for each file's license to "(default/legacy CC-BY-NC-SA)". Possible implementations for a user interface for new additions are: * Use our own wiki, which runs Mediawiki (same as Wikimedia Commons). I see several benefits of this, but we also need a way to accept uploads of batches, not just single files. * Look at how other open source projects have solved this. There may be more appropriate solutions available. ... but I'll leave the implementation open. Suggestions are very welcome! If the author of each file already in SVN can be tracked, then it may be possible that the author is willing to give a blanket permission for all their past files in one statement, and all their files in SVN can be updated in one commit. A productive contributor willing to release some of their work under a more permissive license could make a big change. If Dark Radiant would support letting mappers search media/gamedata by license (does it already?), it would make it easier for mappers to create a completely libre mission, which would help facilitate a TDM-libre release. If I understand things correctly. This post does not address all details and it may contain misunderstandings or assumptions, but it's a start. Also relevant: * Is there a compiled and maintained list of recommended or deprecated resources for mappers to use? * https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/20311-external-art-assets-licensing/

  24. Regarding the existing Russian version of TDM's MasonAlternative font, this had a different origin than those Russian fonts processed by Riff_Keeper. Tels created this in 2012. He started from bitmaps of an ASCII Mason font, then used his Perl patch program to copy selected ASCII glyphs (that resemble in some way Cyrillic) to new font "MasonAlternative". See https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/12863-translating-the-tdm-gui/page/15/#findComment-274617 In GIMP, he flipped or otherwise hand-edited to make them Cyrillic. He said, "There are still a few dozen missing, but this is enough to render the two headlines we have (New Mission and Setting)" https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/12863-translating-the-tdm-gui/page/15/#findComment-274623 This accounts for the incomplete coverage. Speculatively, he took this approach because it couldn't find a Mason-style TTF font with both Russian characters and an acceptable license (e.g., public domain, or at the least freely redistributable for non-commercial use). @kalinovka,I wonder what the licensing is for your masonchronicles3.ttf.
  25. Probably makes sense to discuss this issue here instead of in the generic Shadows of Northdale 1 thread (where the same issue occured).
