1. What I understood is that the idea of TDM was born from that it was unclear if T3 would get a level editor at the time. Source: https://web.archive.org/web/20050218173856/http://evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=268
2. This one is really essential: https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=138607 Should work fine with the GOG version.
3. https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=152224 There is a new mapping contest over on TTLG for the Thief: Deadly Shadows 20th Anniversary and the organizers were kind enough to include The Dark Mod along with all of the Thief games as an options for making a mission to submit as an entry. The deadline is a year from yesterday and the rules are pretty open. I recommend going to the original thread for the details but I will summarize here: Rules: - The mission(s) can be for Thief 1, Thief 2, Deadly Shadows or The Dark Mod. - Collaborations are allowed. - Contestants can use any custom resource they want, though TDM cannot use the Deadly Shadows resource pack. - Contestants can submit more than one mission. - Contestants can enter anonymously. - The mission(s) can be of any size. Using prefabs is allowed but the idea is this is a new mission and starting from an abandoned map or importing large areas from other maps is not allowed. Naturally this is on the honor system as we have no way of validating. Mission themes and contents: There is no requirement from a theme or story viewpoint, however contestants might consider that many players may expect or prefer missions to be celebratory of Thief: Deadly Shadows in this respect: castles, manors, museums, ruins inhabited by Pagans and the like, with a balance of magic versus technology. This is entirely up to the authors, though, to follow or not - it is just mentioned here as an FYI and, while individual voters may of course choose to vote higher or lower based on this on their own, it will not be a criteria used explicitly in voting or scoring. Deadline: May 25th, 2024 at 23:59 Pacific Time. See the TTLG thread for details on submissions and the voting process. Provided I can make the deadline I hope to participate. It would be nice to see the entire community do something together, and expressing our complicated relationship with this divisive game seems as good a pretext as any.
4. Maybe mainmenu_loadsave.gui ? At least you could decrease the fontsize. Btw. the Damage dealth and received part will write over the Times loaded part when the numbers are higher.
5. Yes, a manual edit with bogus data. This is what's left for a second page (plus anything else you can think of if technically possible): Times saved: 25, Times loaded: 12 Pockets picked: 3 out of 5 Time seen by AI: 0m 2s AI KOed: 3, AI Killed: 0, Bodies found: 1 Damage dealt: 0, Damage received: 203, Health restored: 187 A third page could include the current "Stealth score details" as is today but I don't personally find any value in explaining arbitrary decisions (an alert 4 is 3 points because of reasons).
6. When I say the statistics are a mess I actually mean the main screen is unspired, or at least, that's what I feel when I look at it: a bunch of words and numbers thrown at the screen. Casual player: I just completed a long and cool mission! Let's see how I did! Difficulty level and Time: Cool, thanks! Times saved and loaded: Do I need to know this? why are you hurting my feelings? I didn't ask for it > Stats for Nerds Why the very first thing I get is the damage? What the? > Stats for Nerds The health restored must be reaaaally important. C'mon. > Stats for Nerds Pockets picked is apparently more important than the Loot, correct? Finally! The Loot! How about an easy to grasp percentage? Killed, KOed and Bodies: Ok. Time seen > Stats for Nerds Oh, and I would appreciate if I get the damn name of the mission at the very top. You know? For my records, social sharing and the like? EDIT - In the above screenshot secrets are missing. Not sure if secrets get displayed in the next screen or since there weren't secrets in this mission secrets just don't show up.
7. I just submitted a new bug report: https://bugs.thedarkmod.com/view.php?id=6292. In certain specific cases, projectiles don't collide with the player. I've got a test case where a atdm:func_shooter shoots an arrow right at the player, and it goes 'right through' them without damage. It seems to be related to the angle of the projectile (and whether the player is moving or not). This is new to TDM 2.11. It's the cause of the problem that @JavaGod reported playing my mission:
8. I've started experiencing this bug, where the short sword won't damage npc's. I experienced it intermittently with Moving Day yesterday, and now it's rampant in Ulysses 1. I'm using the latest TDM, 2.10, and this only started this week. The only fix is to restart the game entirely. Anyone know what causes this?
9. The mine must be activated with the "use inventory item" key. As soon as you press that key, the mine will get dropped to the ground ready to create damage.
10. I don't think it is bad idea if TDM would have been conceived that way. At the beginning of a mission you can change your gear if you want (and have the coin): Default shoes: your everyday footwear. Soft boots: a little muffled and you can move a little faster but a bit slippery and you are prone to more damage. Hard boots: more noisy and make you move a tad slower but the stability allows you to draw and use your weapons faster and health lasts longer. This system would have allowed for a wide range of unique and exclusive wearable items such as the (in)famous Jester hood, for the more demanding players.
11. Thanks for playing and the kind feedback re: the bugs: the brew tank is a new one - thanks for that. Will add it to the list for any future update. the bow: I think that's a TDM bug. I experienced it as well, but only the early days of developing the mission so I thought it had gone away, but I guess not: https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/21345-210-crashes-may-be-bow-frontend-acceleration-related/ the keys on the guard: never did get to the bottom of that one as I could never reproduce it.
12. Thanks! Hint for the safe code here: https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/21837-fan-mission-the-lieutenant-2-high-expectations-by-frost_salamander-20230424/&do=findComment&comment=485264 Actually, it's probably time I added these hints to the original post....
13. I never realised Bill Gates was a member of these forums. Welcome to the community! I hope you enjoy The Dark Mod. Perhaps your Foundation could help pay for the server hosting or fund the development of some new features?
14. I was balcony hopping along the north side of the square and missed one, but landed instead on the ledge of one of the open arches above the hotel's front door. That's how I got in. I took a little damage, but since those arches have no windows or bars I assumed it was a legitimate means of entry. There were two Coates' body guards in the hotel bar, but no Coates. I only discovered later that you could enter the hotel from the river side. I just returned now to the hotel to see if my subsequent entry into his mansion has triggered his appearence, but it has not.
15. Ah, I see, ChronA. Yeah, that is strange to apply real life morality to fiction. I mean almost all fiction includes some degree of immorality! This must be the developers attempt to stop it being used for evil purposes but the easy way round that would have been: write a story in which the evil villain constructs a nuclear device in New York. Give details of the best locations to cause the max damage, max fatalies, max fallout, and also how the device could be constructed in great detail. Hey! it's only fiction. I don't see any way round this and I bet the developers are scratching their heads. It won't mean much in a few years when countries like North Korea, Russia, China, Iran, develop their own version of chat-gpt but without any constraints. BTW, were you asking chat-gpt 3.5 or gpt-4? What you were doing also reminds me of my attempts to persuade chat-gpt to 'pretend' to have an opinion. It struggled and wriggled out of the question each time. I kept saying surely you can pretend to have an opinion based on what you judge to be most likely given the data you have. But it kept saying it's not sentient and its purpose is as a research tool blah blah blah. Good fun though. I also asked it how to remove the date and calender from the Win11 taskbar. It told me how to do it in the settings. I told it you are out of date because Microsoft have removed that option in Win11. It apologized. Next day, I asked it if it remembered our previous discussions. It seemed to say yes. So I asked it the same question but it got it wrong again. When I explained again where it failed it promised to add this to its data. I'll test it again tomorrow but I'm doubtful. I also told it that it's smart enough to pass the Turing test with most non-experts but its too stiff and needs to lighten up. I recommended it watched Terminator 2. It knew all about Terminator 2 yet didn't take the hint.
16. OK "Coding. Especially GPT-4 is magnificent." @vozka - Because it was trained on data from sites like Stack overflow where human written code snippets abound, these are being plagiarised without any recognition of the original author or which site they came from. They mined the internet wholesale to train their clockwork parrot, not one person who provided data for this plastic plagiarist will see any recognition or a single penny for their work "What you can't do is nail your work to the church door for all to freely see, or give it to every merchant to sell on the open market, and then retroactively decide you want to reserve additional rights for yourself!" @ChronA - Agreed, but when someone takes those notes from the church door and fabricates something that's incorrect from them that can damage your reputation, then you have some redress. Truth & accuracy should be the very least of our expectations, that should be a built in from day one OpenAI will not release details of the training dataset it's used, probably because they don't want bills arriving by post or they don't want IP plagiarism lawsuits for all the websites they ripped off, however it appears that Meta & Google have been quite happy to use Breitbart, Russia Today, Stormfront, Kiwi Farms & 4chan as sources of training data
17. Thanks for the replies, gonna try those spoiler Tags again now for my short review (oh well it inserted one above my text now and I can't seem to delete it on mobile - this text editor is strange)
18. Just finished this mission and wow I gotta say in great honor to Grayman and of course the rest of the team picking it up, this was something I've never seen before in any other TDM mission, especially visually wise. I am so happy that grayson gave green light for other experienced mappers to finish his last mission. And what came out of this is really something special. I'll put my review in spoiler tags since I'm now referring to critical mission details. Edit - How do I put spoiler text here on mobile??
test

test
[spoiler[spoiler [sfah
19. You can try my alternative footstep sounds package which addressed the things you described together with a lot of other footstep sounds both for player and AI if you want to. https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/17631-new-footstep-sounds/
20. Mods can this moved again? @Acolytesix- can you make sure you post in the beta thread instead of this one please (this one is public, the beta thread is only for logged-in forum members): https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/21822-beta-testing-high-expectations/
21. sure - I would only ask that you follow the thread to make sure you don't report stuff that has already been mentioned: https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/21822-beta-testing-high-expectations/
22. I would build TDM levels that I let as much as possible people beta test (never finishing), but I change things per beta tester to confuse people and new versions add frustrating elements like traps and limited autosaves (an autosave every time you get damage or get spotted). Not because I am evil, but because of my braintransplantation I gathered a disconnect with pleasent social behaviour.. Your mission it is to end this by knocking out (there's a no kill requirement of course) the bad mission builder and throw him in the water (what happens after is not your fault). To do this you have to find the holy blackjack. It was lost though, so you have to get back in time somehow and steal this holy symbol (where have you heard this before?).
23. heh i was thinking the same though it might just have been a glitch when writing the names are pretty similar. But for correctness it is called the dark engine and the newer version that allows us to run these beauties on win10/11 is called newdark. newdark is kinda interresting as it just suddenly popped up on a french forum some time ago by an anonymous developer with the alias le corbeau who allegedly got his hands on the original source code and started updating it for modern OS. this was the original thread i believe -> https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=140085 bikerdude was on that forum to when the patch hit i noticed hehe.
24. Okay, I had no idea, I have googled it up now and you are right, to my own surprise. Done, I´ve put some paragraphs which were previously not in spoiler tags into spoilers.
25. Thebigh is right. The pronunciation tripped me up too, but that is apparently how Leicester is pronounced. Also @TarhielI'm glad you are loving the FM but do you mind putting spoiler tags on your post please
