I never got into BSD, though I've installed it once or twice. This is another reason to check it out.

The BSD's arn't for everyone, but within their goals, simple code and mailing lists lies a lot of goodness and simplicity. I love the underdogs. Anyhoo work will be Linux friendly too. Portability is a cornerstone for good code.

  1. Hello, I have created a new folder in the 'Doom3' folder, have followed directions on how to create a 'Dark Mod' folder but I cannot get it recognized by the computer. I have done this in the folder's tab,'C:\Games\Doom3\darkmod' When I press the 'Enter' key to put the path on the folder, I get this error msg: 'Cannot find file:///C:/Games/Doom3/darkmod'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct.' I'm stuck at this step. Please help me get through this part. Thanks, L. Blackthorne

(We can leave the thread for journalism corruption, but just on this...) Then the issue in academia is money flowing to the more corruptable fields like science & engineering with the big corporate grants & revolving door with staff. The humanities might not get that, but OTOH they are getting pressured to "justify their existence" financially. I could probably agree it's rife in almost any human field though, as long as there are incentives there will be corruption.

Or then we have the "uncorruptable" critical academics, but then they're basing their work on Derrida or Marx and are so detached from reality they throw their credibility out the window. It's good to be critically detached, not so good to be derailed from reality. My position in law sometimes is something like a critical realism, but it's practically an orphan position. (You want to protect victims *and* think science works??? Wha...?)

Who is uncorruptable anyways? I cannot convince even myself that I would be uncorruptable in every situation. And I perceive myself to be situated in the more-reliable-than-50%-of-the-general-population side in the gaussian distribution curve of corruption. Problematic, yes?

  2. For the last 1-2 weeks the forums have been really slow and unresponsive for me, when I type a post half the time it just sits there etc.. is anyone else having the same issues..?
  3. Does anybody else have this problem? In the (European) evenings the forum is unbearable slow. The server is delivering about 8Kbyte/s, sometimes less and usually stops midwhere during loading the page. Sometimes you can't even get the index page, sometimes you can log in, but then only get half of the overview etc. In the mornings everything is snappy.
  4. I've upgraded IPB to the latest stable version, and since this was a major upgrade (from 2.3.6) I also had to re-do the forum style. Most of the new stuff is in place, but I bet that the logo will be changed. One of the many new features in version 3 is rating of posts and also a "report spammer" ability which will make it easier to single out spam bots and ban then at sight. Hopefully this will stop some of the spam threads we've seen recently. Make sure to empty your browser cache if you're experiencing any problems. And please report any errors etc in this thread. Cheers, ~m2
  5. Hi people, I'm following the A-Z tutorial, and when I try to add a prefab it says exactly this: "The folder contents could not be displayed Error stating file 'C:/doom3\darkmod\prefabs': No such file or directory" What now?
  6. I can't login to Steam forums. Please visit the Thief release threads and mention TDM Thanks!

  7. Just looking for a button. There is still only one surprisingly - the numberwheel button - but this is under mechanical whereas there is a separate folder mechanical/switches. This whole folder wants reorganizing really but I guess that will break maps. I would always have a misc subfolder otherwise there is a mix of folders and models whereas in Windows we're used to folders being listed together. So we might have something neat like... chains gauges gears misc .. L watermill pipes switches .. L buttons .. L levers I don't mind doing the work but I don't want to break anybody's map without agreement.

I'm using the CD with TG, T2 and T3 on it. Darkloader doesn't like it. I can't get TG FMs to work

  10. hi there, due to reasons beyond my control I need to restore a backup of my machine from before I put doom and darkmod on, now I've no problem reinstalling doom, but I was wondering can I make a backup of the darkmod folder and pull that back after I've finished all my other stuff and reinstalled Doom3, rather than run the darkmod downloader again as the download takes a really long time ?
  11. copper_plates_dirty_tiling_1d_ed.jpg I believe is too long, I was trying to use it and the local for some keys, kept getting missing shader blue in DR. Changed name to this: copper_plate1d_ed.jpg It still tells you it's copper plates. If we get another copper plate it could be 02. 1d could be for dirt anyway. Not sure who made it, what the name length limit is or if it's OK to commit the change. Until then some keys won't be right. Also, alot of the shaders in tdm_metal_flat.mtr seem to have incorrect path names, or old names from before the tex reorg. Alot of them are named the path, so the name/path won't be the same any more. I'll clean it up if needed. I still haven't had any luck getting dds paths to work for objects, not sure if these metals are supposed to reference dds or the jpg's and tga's.
  12. I miss the brown borders dividing up the sub forums. This great big block of grey looks ugly.

  13. So... What was up with the forums all day yesterday..?
  14. I was uploading a bunch of new models and noticed that there are some really cool models in the Nautical folder that I would never would have expected to find there. I think pinkdot just put all the parts of his galleon into that folder, but some of the models, like the ship lantern, window models, and a very cool winch model, I would never think to look in the "Nautical" folder for. Any objections if I move them to more appropriate spots (window to windows folder, lantern to lights, etc)?
  15. Welcome to the Dark Mod forums! I enjoyed browsing your gallery. =-)

  16. Hello!

I saw on TDM forums that you are a very talented level designer. Could you lend your talents for The Sly Project? (http://tsp.comlu.com)

We have no level designers yet and the project was announced almost a year ago. Please join us! I'm looking forward to your answer friend.

    Best wishes: Oszkár Winkler
