  1. Hi guys, through the "cheats" topic I got the idea, that it would be quite useful, if there were tags for missions (the post was about removing the killing restriction in some missions to suit the prefered play style). I don't know how easy or difficult this is, but with them, it would be quite convenient to pick missions with playstyles, environment, etc one does want to use. This could also be expanded to other mission properties. I remember a discussion about climbable drains, handles on doors, that cannot be picked and other things the map author chooses for himself. That way these things would be clearer and as I said before, it is easier to choose missions with playstyles that suit oneself. What do think?
  2. Is anyone building anything for Halloween this year? ^_^

Nothing from me this year, all of my mapping efforts are focused on my current WIP for now.

I might try to build my first mission until then and can make it horror-based. I don't really have any obligation now (except looking for jobs) and my roommate is not here, so I'm not forced to have a social life for some time.

  3. I'm sure everyone has seen this by now: http://www.amazon.co...ocId=1001928521 The timing of the contest announcement caught us by surprise, so we weren't able to confirm out involvement immediately. But yes, the contest is legitimate and The Dark Mod is a part of it. Contest FAQ This FAQ is based on the information I was given in conversations with Square Enix. Not all of it has been reflected in the contest rules posted thus far. Until it is confirmed in writing, you should accept this information at your own risk. Why is The Dark Mod involved? The Dark Mod was born in the Thief community, and was created and supported by Thief fans. If something is good for the Thief community, then The Dark Mod is happy to be a part of it. And what could be better than something that celebrates the terrific talent and passion of mission authors and modders (not to mention giving them cool prizes)? It's also nice to have The Dark Mod officially recognized by the owners of the Thief franchise. Can I enter a mission for The Dark Mod into the contest? Yes. You can use any Thief platform (T1, Thief Gold, T2, TDS) as well as The Dark Mod. If you're entering the "If I Could Mod, I Would Create" category, you don't even need to use a platform at all. Just share your great idea! Do I have to use Thief: Gold for the contest? No. You can download Thief: Gold for free, but you don't have to. Even if you download it, you don't have to use it for the contest. Consider it a free gift from Square Enix. Why can't people outside the US enter? I agree that's unfortunate. The Thief community is world-wide. As far as I know, the limitation is due to the involvement of the US division of Amazon, who is providing a lot of the prizes. It seems that different divisions of Amazon support contests only in their own regions. There may be future announcements on this point, however. So can I use The Dark Mod to create a Thief mission? The Dark Mod has always been careful not to use any IP belonging to Square Enix. However Square Enix has agreed in conversations with me that they are allowing people to use Thief IP in The Dark Mod for the purposes of the contest. However, until this information is reflected in writing we will continue our policy of not endorsing, supporting, or hosting TDM missions that use Thief IP. Note that you can enter the "If I could mod I would create" category without creating anything at all, so copyright questions would not apply. So how do I enter the contest then? You don't have to download Thief: Gold. First, you should decide which category you want to enter: "Look, I made a Mod" or "If I could Mod, I would create". If you're doing the second one, all you need to do is make a short video pitching your cool idea. The more creative your pitch, the better. If you're entering the first category, then you need an actual mod/mission to showcase in your video. Can I enter something I have already done? Yes! You do not have to create something new for the contest (although you can). The contest is to celebrate the talent of the Thief community, and that includes things that have already been created. How are the winners determined? We'll need to wait for more details about this. I know Square Enix originally wanted the community to vote for the winners, but they had to work out the details with Amazon. Some press releases are stating that The Dark Mod is involved in the judging, but this is NOT correct. If there is a community voting process then we will be a part of that, but members of The Dark Mod have no privileged role in judging (which also means we are not barred from entering, as currently stated by the contest rules). Does this mean The Dark Mod is endorsing the new Thief? The Dark Mod doesn't have an official position on the new Thief game. But my personal position is that any game that has the potential to create new fans of first person stealth gaming is a good thing for us. Why should I enter the contest? Well, aside from the ability to win some pretty cool prizes, your contest entry is basically a promotional video for your mod or mission. It's free advertising. And if it's a TDM mission, it's free advertising for us as well. ===================================================================== Here are some links about the announcement: http://www.pcgamer.c...ng-competition/ http://news.softpedi...es-428148.shtml http://www.girlgamer...e/article/3215/ http://www.gamenguid...new-contest.htm

  6. Just a heads up, but we've been kicking around ideas for an FM contest over at TTLG recently, and I've pretty much decided I want to start one up soon. The theme will be "Lost Places." The idea is to create something distant/remote and away from The City proper. Ancient ruins, lost temples, abandoned buildings, crumbling tombs, anything along those lines. I don't think there's every been a combination Thief/TDM contest, so I want to do that. Since there is no need for specific factions or places, this should work fine. So any entries for T1, TG, T2, TDS, or TDM will be accepted. This seems like it could be a good contest for TDM, as I don't think there are a lot of "Lost City" type missions out there. It seems like most missions take place in Bridgeport. Build time will probably be between 4-6 months - I wanted to go a bit longer this time in hopes it will produce some higher quality missions. Anyway, this will probably all start up within a week to 10 days, so if you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them.
  7. Tell Tale Heart by DarthsLair (copied from the ttlg post) Story: It is Hallows Eve, and while the Trick or Treater's are keeping the City Watch busy, I thought I would spend some time in the old Industrial area just outside the city. Basso and Jenivere are to meet me behind the old Trumble house, as they are casing some work for me. Should be a quiet evening, and the only guards close by won't be watching. The rent is due, and you never know, I may just have a few tricks for tonight myself as the rent is due in a couple of days. Trick or Treat! Download links: -googledocs Notes: Before downloading! Version 1.19, otherwise known as Thief2 The New Dark is required to play this game. You must patch your Thief 2 installation and be sure and remove all of your v1.18 saves. Follow the instructions, as the patching is simple - 1.19 page - This mission is large, and it will take some time to get through it. I highly suggest to read everything you can read in the mission for a full understanding of the Story and Game. Some of the objectives of course are triggered by readables. - Please dont give outright spoilers, as this is a new game and story. The game play is laid out in a simple fashion, and there are numerous clues throughout the mission. - Pay no attention to the stat's screen concerning secrets, as that count is wrong. The objective screen will credit you in this regard. My eyes have been failing me for quite some time, and this may be my last mission until eye surgery or such. I had to use a powerful magnifying glass in order to work and finish it. My eyes are strained terribly, so bear with me. - I also included in the movie's folder, my custom made death.avi. I may have to make a written walk-through and a loot list, but there is no hidden loot which isn't easy to find. All credits appear in the readme ! - It is probably not wise to frob the fish I have in this mission, and a beta tester did mention that once frobbed it couldn't be dropped. It might be thrown however. Explore the game up and down, and you will eventually find everything. Patience is golden ! Maps are helpful, and I have included the necessary features to help you navigate in the catacombs. Video: - Slyfoxx is Garrett, and the background music is by Keyla the Otter. Some of his ambients are used throughout the mission. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPjtjaVBHc0 Misc: - This fan mission:Tell Tale Heart is dedicated to Evy(Evelyn) Poe, directly related to Edgar Allan Poe. She passed away sadly many years ago and was my dear friend, along with Dale Duvall, her son who also passed away earlier this year. Long live Edgar Allan Poe and all of his descendants. Have some Halloween fun !
  8. Halloween Speed-build Contest! Rules: Entrants must complete a mission by October 31th. The mission must have at least one element that evokes Halloween. Scary missions will be preferred but things like: playing tricks, finding candy, fall decoration (Gourds, Pumpkins, etc), Pagan harvest festivals, etc ... are all acceptable ways to evoke the holiday. Pre-built content is allowed but the author must describe which pre-built items are included. Good luck! The entrants have completed their missions. Here are the available missions: House in Blackbog Hollow (stumpy) Samhain night on Bone Hill (pranqster) A Night to Remember (Fieldmedic) The Creeps (Mortem Desino) Dragon's Claw (Bikerdude) Votes must be submitted by December 11th.
  9. Congratulations Mortem Desino! And many thanks to all the Halloween contest participants!

  11. Halloween Speedbuild 2 Contest 2014 Winners: 1st place: Briarwood Cathedral (author buck28) 76.44% 2nd place: Exhumed (authors Airship Ballet and Kyyrma) 75.80% Calculations: No offense buck28 but this result was a bit of a surprise with your mission up against the combined efforts of Airship Ballet and Kyyrma. That said the real deciding factor were the 6 top votes for gameplay in Briarwood vs only 2 in Exhumed. It'll be interesting to watch the votes after the contest and see how these fair over the years. Right now the sample data is so low this might as well be a tie (but that could also be said of most of our contests, I guess).

I've found it difficult to find where TDM is listed as #1 on Greenlight. This page ( https://steamcommunity.com/greenlight/ ) has no ranked listing. This one ( https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=858048394 ) has no visible rank or stats page. Is it my script blocker?

  13. Hey, Every time I've try to use the Full Editor when PM'ing someone, and every single time I get an error. Whoever is in charge of the forum, is it possible that this could be fixed? Thanks Neon
