  1. Hi Guys, i am having a question about game assets and textures. i am planing a new computer game and would like to use some stuff from the dark mod. First of all, this would be a complete FREE game. Wihtout ads, without ingameshop, without early access or other stuff. NO COMMERCE. I love the dark mod, not playing the missions especially, its the style. I listen hours to the small nocturne theme, its wonderful to dive into this world. The game i want to develop is a mix of Might and Magic 6 (or Might and Magic X Legacy) and Thief. The scenario is like in thief a city in steam punk style, where 4 peoples have to solve riddles (murderer or theft or smth), fight and explore dungeons. Ok, i am just a programmer. I am just one man who would develop in his spare time. I have over fifteen years programming experience and developed several projects. I released my own computer game a few years ago. It was developed in c++ and c# and sinks into that swamp of games. At this time social games where cool, now apps are cool. But i am not that kind of gamer. I loved burntime on the amiga, i loved waxworks, i love all these classic games. I do not wan't to give my next project to the app store or app swamp and then pray that somebody will find this game... People found the dark mod because there had a passion in playing stealth games like thief 1+2 (in my case, only 1+2) and not while hanging around and waiting for the next addictive app with trivial gameplay from the appstore. I just want to create an impression of that Thief world, but i think RPG Style round based fights are match perfectly. My computer game was a simple puzzle game and took 4 years. After release not many magazines reported about it. It was a fail, we didn't make any money with it. I know how hard it is to complete a game and after the first 70% there are the next 70% to complete. Its a challenge for myself but todays there are a lot of tools, like unity which make game developing really simple. Might and Magic X for example was build on unity. I will try it. Maybe i can build some levels in maya inspirated by dark mod levels or smth. I am not a designer at all. So i am asking again, is it possible to use some textures, maybe objects, or animations to implement in my game? Thanks for reading! Tornby

Hahaha! That was awesome! Good old Steam Summer Sale!!

  3. So, Z was supposed to be released on Steam. Anyone know what happened to it?

    1. stumpy

      stumpy

release date on steam 5th july 2014.

  4. Bought Maxpayne3 a week ago, went to go play it today but ended up sending a complaint email to steam support instead. Lets see what they actually do, as traditionally Steam support are a bunch of 'taffers' when it comes to helping their customers. The moral of the story, read the small print on ANY steam game you buy. Because in my case even when I read the small print there is still some other unmentioned bullshit to deal with...
  5. Sniper Elite V2 is for free on steam until tomorrow. Don't know whether it is good or not, but well. it's free. :) This is a way of advertisment I can live with.

I have BF4 installed and play it about once a week. Origin is ballz compared to Steam. I could care less if the program occasionally sends system info pertinent to Origin's operation or a games operation. Most of those things you can turn off in the interface anyway which I do.

You can't be a gamer and not play half the stuff that comes out because it installs some middleware or interface. I want to sample everything. The most annoying IMO is Games for Windows but the Batman games are too much fun not to create a login. When you're done playing the game, just uninstall whatever and be on your way. Paranoia ruins quality of life. Get on with it.

  8. After getting a 3rd of the way through this game and then giving up due to the amount of bugs, I am looking at again from scratch. I popped over to the Nexus website to see its a pay site now and after reading the following blog, its not looking good. Rather disappointingly the same BS and knee jerk Nazism still seems to exist over there and the implementation of the payment/membership system seems to be nothing more than money grab for the site owner. So does anyone play this game and have a supporter membership? are you able to download files, if so at what speed? Is the Steam Skyrimworkshop anygood..? can I/we download files form there. How many of the nexus mods are available on SW ta.

I've been considering reinstalling TDS for a wile now... I've still got my original CDs. Have these guys fixed the bug where you get stuck floating? Last time I played TDS, that happened and I was unable to get out of it, so I ragequit.

      chakkman

You can surpass that bug by drawing your bow, performing a shot, and draw your blackjack when the bow is tensioned, to abort the bow shot. I'm hoping it's fixed in the Gold patch too though. Alongside the thing where you move sideways, when peeking left or right.

      @Biker Hmm.

      Build TDM mission in DR.

      Export as portions as ASE

Edit in Blender and export in TDS compatible format

      Import into T3ED

      Edit

      Release TDS mission...

      (or just stick with TDM)

  9. The walking dead: season 2 is going cheap on steam atm.

I could never get past the cel shading. Imo anything that wants to evoke a response other than humor shouldn't use it.

      7upMan

Consider this a playable comic, and you will see why this was the only thing that made sense. Also, so far, the story was about the best one of any computer game I ever played.

    4. Airship Ballet

      Airship Ballet

I think it works for The Wolf Among Us because that literally is a playable comic (Fables). I don't know, there was just huge aesthetic dissonance in it for me. It wasn't so much the cel-shading as the goofy models and animations.

I hope the gameplay is unique to justify him reinventing the wheel instead of, e.g., just forking off of us. The art design looks good.

  10. Just bought Alan Wake on Steam with the few quid I got getting rid of a bunch if trading cards, cool!

AW is a fantastic game. The gameplay is mediocre and repetitive, but the atmosphere and the storyline is brilliant, and makes up for the gameplay limitations.

Great piece of art for a mapper to analyze to get inspiration how to conjure a gripping atmosphere and how to feed the plot in small spoonfuls, keeping the player hungry at all times.

Highly recommended, if you can get it for few euros!

  11. Decided to try some games I picked up on Steam sales. Ended up playing through Call of Juarez: Gunslinger in one sitting. Absolutely the best shooter I have played in years. If you like FPS games even in the slightest and haven't played it - just do it. You'll thank me later.

Looking back, despite 2013 being a pretty bad year for PC gaming in general, it was a good year for FPS games with old-school spirit. We got Gusnlinger, Blood Dragon, Shadow Warrior, Metro: Last Light and probably a few others I can't remember now. Apparently the ROTT remake was good as well?

It's a nice game. But IMHO Oblivion and Morrowind were far better. The washed out the rpg extremely. And after a while it gets extremely repetitve (like the predecessors).

    3. Baal

      Baal

I agree. I liked Morrowind and (heavily modded) Oblivion. But after playing a "real" RPG (like The Witcher or the Fallouts etc.) I can't go back to this kind of game. They're boring, bland and repetitive in comparison.

    4. SeriousToni

      SeriousToni

I pretty much liek Skyrim more than Oblivion and Morrowind :x

  13. Popped into the Game on Saturday and picked up a copy of DX:HR for £9.99, £5 less than it costs on steam and under my max buy price for a steam game, Valve seem to be on another planet when it comes to thier pricing, its either just plain greed or blind arrogance.
  14. I have a 30% discount coupon for Aqua Kitty, if anyone wants it let me know. I thought it would be nice to give the thread a more general title, so other people can use the same topic to trade stuff
  15. Well, today I decided to put my Dark Radiant and TDM launcher (which I renamed TheDarkMod.exe) so people could see I was playing TDM when logged into steam. First time I've added a non-steam game. I know quite a few Hammer mappers and mentioned TDM to a guy during L4D2 one night and he said the web page looked really nice, not sure if he's played yet though. Anyway, it got me thinking, why not start a steam group and also start promoting through steam? So I go to make a new group and TDM, The Dark Mod and thedarkmod are all taken. LOL. What? I didn't know we had a group. So it looks like Tels and 7 up man are admins. But it's an invite only group, has anyone been invited? So how bout this? Give me admin and I'll start updateing it when missions are released and whatnot. Do some screenies, etc... It might go nowhere but it might also get more mappers mapping. Steam has a nice group chat too so that's always a cool way to help each other out while mapping. This is my steam profile, anyone is welcome to add me as a friend. Maybe join the group first once we open it to public, then when an invite with a weird name comes in I know it's TDM related. http://steamcommunity.com/id/Voodoo_Daddy/ I added Tels and 7 Up as friends, but like I said, weird name, they won't know who I am 'til they read this.
  16. So I've tried an advanced search and come up dry on specifics. So before I leap into the void by installing 1.08 with Steam (getting 1.06/1.07 running on my system with Steam was 'not' easy) I would like to know if anyone has had any significant and or unsolved issues updating to 1.08 on the Steam Doom3 platform? Thanks for any input. Cheers, namuh1
