We have no idea how to make movies:

On the opposite end of the "we have no idea how to make movies" spectrum, with realism over stylization.

I like to record difficult stealth games, and right now you wonderful people are the only ones delivering on that front.

Playing "Don't stop me now" on the radio, as he smashes into another motorist. lol

I do wonder if statistics show more crashes when people are rocking out to music while driving...

When I was a kid, I wondered if you could use conventional audio cassette tapes like a VCR, capturing the video track to the left channel and the audio to the other. It turns out someone was doing exactly this. And it wasn't such a great idea, for a variety of reasons.

I once plugged in the RCA cables of a Nintendo wrong and I noticed that the video signal emitted a buzz from the speaker. That was what made me start asking "What would happen if I recorded this track to an audio tape and then played it into the monitor?" It is crazy that they had to spin the tape at 8x speed in order to get enough bandwidth for even such a low quality image. And there would have been no way to spin the other side of the tape at a slower speed in order to avoid wasting such bandwidth on the audio side.

Every time SystemD makes me wait a minute and a half during boot or shut down for some file system or program that won't start/stop, without a method to skip/bypass it, I feel like doing this.

This could have been an interesting game, but it takes WAY too long to get going. For the first fifteen minutes, you must distinguish between civilian and hostile cardboard cut-outs, when they're only a couple of pixels. Nobody even shoots back at you until all of this is complete. (FPS games generally aren't much fun without enemies who shoot back at you!)

You can't skip this section, either. The sound and atmosphere are actually surprisingly good. As good as one could expect on a 16 MHz CPU and 256 KB of memory. :)

In memory of that guy who tried so hard and got so hard, but in the end didn't really matter.

Sound of those sounds would be wicked to have. Just imagine the atmosphere you could create with those sound effects.

I really enjoyed this game. The setting, the plot, the mechanics were all good. It wasn't "Let's save the world!", or "Let's kill all the aliens!". The downsides are the lack of auto save (better remember to do it yourself!), and a bug that will hit modern computers, where the submarine that you need to steal will just explode when you lower it if the frame rate is over a certain value, which it surely will be on anything modern. But Vsync fixes that. Also, the geomod stuff should have played a bigger part later in the game. It isn't completely linear; if you're not careful, you can wind up going in circles in some parts!

The progression feels heavily inspired by Half-life. It is a continuous world with tiny load segments, instead of being split into missions.

Warning, very graphic and definitely NSFW. I post this here not because I actually want to share it with anyone, but because I want to get around Youtube's age check, without logging in and thereby disclosing the fact that *I* (name and all) watched such a video. You have been warned!

I posted about it before, but I think the default tdm logo video looks outdated. For a (i.m.o.) better looking version, you can download the pk4 attached to this post and plonk it in your tdm root folder. Every mission that starts with the tdm logo then starts with the better looking one. Try for example mission COS1 Pearls and Swine.

I finished DOOM - The Dark Ages the other day. It is a decent shooter, but not as great as its predecessors, especially because of the soundtrack.
