running backwards... overpowered?

Even with the increased default difficulty, my fighting tactic is to let an AI charge at me while I run backwards. He swings at me and (provided I have space to step back) misses. Then I deliver an overhead smash to inflict massive damage.

What do you developers think of being limited in the running backward speed? You cannot run as fast backwards in real life after all.

I thought T1/2 didn't allow you to run backwards at full speed, but I haven't played in a wile. IIRC even with "always run" you still "walk" backwards.

The training mission thing is a bug which came up a wile ago.

If running backwards was reduced by a small percentage, it would allow the guard to keep up with me as I backstep, yet it would not annoy the player and make them move back at turtle speeds.

I normally don't fight against ai, as I'm quite terrible at it. However, this sounds like a good idea to me.

@STiFU and Serpentine I don't want the strafe speeds lowered. I just don't think that they should be increased with the sprint button.

^I no longer feel this way, but I would like the current 2.0 backwards sprint and strafe sprint speeds lowered a bit more.

We did lower the running backwards speed originally for just that reason, though we could look at lowering it a bit more.

I don't think you should be able to increase your speed at all by holding sprint when moving backwards or strafing.

Now that I've played 2.0 a bit more, I notice that the backwards running speed has been reduced. It seems like a pretty good speed. It does make sense that one can increase their backwards and sideways movements a little bit more than the speed that they normally walk.

I really hope that it is not changed at all. I HATE that part about Thief 1/2, I feel like I am not a limber thief at all.

If I had to guess, I would say that backwards speed seems to be about 70% of what it was in 1.8. It feels pretty agile to me for moving backwards and sideways. Edited by SirGen

It would be nice if the backwards sprinting was lowered a bit more :P Edited by SirGen

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
