  1. My condolences to his family and this community. Cancer may kill the body, but the spirit does live on. RIP Grayman, thanks for sharing your joy.

  2. So how does this work? I place the tdm_installer.exe in the games directory, and my TDM installation is updated when I run it? Edit: Ok, problem solved. I just ran it in the Dark Mod directory, and, it seems to work like the updater, i.e. if there is no installation, it newly installs Dark Mod, if there is an installation, it updates it accordingly. I don't understand why it still wants to update something when you run it after you updated though. It deleted all my settings as well, argh...

  3. Fantastic mission! Of all the 2.10 releases, I was looking forward to this one the most, and it delivered. One question:

  4. I just found out about the news and i created an account just to pay my respects to Grayman. I'd only started playing Dark Mod March last year when i happened to watch gmanlives' youtube video on his Dark Mod review. I'm a long time Thief fan and as soon as i heard about this game, i immediate jump into dark mod page and downloaded the game. Since, I'm been playing Dark Mod missions chronologically and also been following the forum, read pages after pages for fun and tips and getting to know the community, although i never bother to create an account until now. I'd only stumbled upon this news just when i was reading about the new mission release Noble Affairs by Goldwell and it mentioned that the mission was dedicated to Grayman and i was like huh? (i'm currently playing Cole Hurst 1 mission up to this point). So i felt it's really time for me to create an account to say a few words to Grayman. His Mother Rose mission was the scariest mission i've played i think in any Thief game, even surpassing the scare factor of Shalebridge in my experience so far. Grayman is a genius to be able to pull that off! His William Steele series is definitely one of the memorable campaign missions i've played last year. Besides his tribute mission Sir Taffsalot's Sword, he also did paid a small tribute to Sir Taffsalot too in William Steele part 4 if anybody notices. That was a very sad moment for me as then i'd only learnt of Sir Taffsalot/Gary's passing; from that mission.(I played William Steele 4 before i played Sword) And now Grayman From the many of his older correspondence I read in the forum, i can feel that he is very compassionate and humble man. I may be too late to pay my respects to him in this forum, but i shall pay my respects nevertheless. Grayman, you will be missed

  5. What an amazing mission! When I looked out onto the desert I could hardly believe that you made this in TDM. It still surprises me, how different TDN missions can get. I have a suggestion though: If the zombie headshot is a feature of the mission, it should be mentioned somewhere. Also could this be included into the core mod or at least in my Unofficial Patch? The same goes for the fire arrow setting multiple targets on fire. Both are great new additions! Could I use them?

  6. Okay simply closing and opening the door fixed this! I've finished this mission now, and all the other Hidden Hands missions. Incredible work, Jack, each mission was very different yet super compelling. I look forward to further work from you.

  9. It’s never too late to pay respects! To say this community wouldn’t be what it is, or won’t be the same without him, is truly an understatement. He’s helped so many newb mappers like myself over the years and inspired so many. I barely talked to him besides a few mapping questions, but always wanted to reach out and have a cup of coffee or a pint. I live less than a 20 minute drive from him and frequently travel there for life and work anyway but never got around to it Got busy with starting a family and new business and the pandemic. Not gonna lie it chokes me up a bit every time I boot up TDM. Thief has always been in my top 5 favorite games, and his contributions to the mod made him seem legendary to me. I just wanted to thank him in person for helping to inspire me to make a map for my favorite mod of all time. Just never got around to hitting him up and saying “hey let’s get together for a drink and some nerdy game chat!” Such is life sometimes, but publishing a map was a dream I’ve had for over a decade, I lurked around for a long time before registering and started work on a map, so I want to say thanks here for indirectly helping me fulfill a dream, grayman.

  10. Damn, this fucking sucks... I think the William Steele series were the second of the series fan missions I ever played, they were all great, totally worth to play to see the amazing stuff authors can make with The Dark Mod. Also the second time I've seen a Hammerite Church that was that big. It's gonna be very shitty with him gone, may he at least rest in peace, old taffer.

  11. Congratulations on the 2.10 release, friends! All of you who worked on it deserve a reward--What am I saying? Many rewards! And many well-deserved vacations too. I especially love the faster loading times, this is something that has been bugging me since Thief 1, but back then I had an HDD, now I have an SSD and no matter if I save or load, the mission is huge or not, TDM is just incredibly fast, never had I have to spend more than 50 seconds anymore!

  12. Do you have a possibility to contact him and ask if we can use his work? I do not have a google account.

  13. I use lean forward pretty frequently. It's not obsolete in TDM at all.

  14. Yep, loading times improved a lot. I used to read some ebook while waiting for missions to load and now I barely start and they are already finished :)!

  15. Being new to The Dark Mod I must say how amazed with this FM. I have been a Thief fan over 20 years (!) and have played and replayed every Thief game and hundreds of FMs during that time. This mission was my first foray into TDM and I will say I thoroughly enjoyed it. I had to throttle down some of my settings but overall it was still exceptional. BTW, I really loved the intro music. My wife heard it too felt the same!

  16. I don't visit here much, so I only just read about this. My condolences to grayman's family and friends.

  17. All together I made five . The Bloodlines and TDM patches are alive as are the games themselves! The Deep Shadows patches are hibernating because I can't find the time to replay the games and there isn't much community left. The Babylon Project patch has been included into the Knossos version core game so that at least is finished ;).

  18. Just for anybody interested, I have updated my Unofficial Patch to work with TDM 2.10! New are the option to turn the much discussed Frob Outlines on, in to me the most sensible dark version, and renaming the mission installation/selection UI mishmash to "activation": https://www.moddb.com/mods/the-dark-mod/addons/the-dark-mod-unofficial-patch

  19. STFU, it's people like you that caused the world to suffer through 2 world wars. The west and her allies have been doing everything in their power to put as much pressure on Putin and Russia and avoid world war 3. This isn't Germany or France or UK, the allies can't just send troops into Ukraine. Russia has already threatened all out Nuclear retaliation should the western allies intervene. Always remember, lest we forget the horrors of war.

  20. It's never too late to pay respects! Thank you for the kind words and condolences. Many of the 2.10 mission releases are dedicated to Grayman and we hope to carry the torch of his fantastic work for years to come.

  21. Thanks to everyone who's played and left comments and/ or bugs! I've updated to 1.4. Mostly minor bug fixes and made a few jumps and ropes less annoying. DOWNLAOD HAZARD 1.4 (unfortunately old saves will not work)

  23. This thread is not about the technical aspects of mapping, or performance issues. It's about the "language" of TDM missions...the kinds of things that we would like to see mappers do consistently across missions to communicate things to players. For example, in nuThief, they used a white paint decal to communicate to the player where they could mantle something. I'm sure there will be some disagreement over these, but ultimately I'd like to put together a guide of "TDM Conventions" that players expect mappers to follow. Mappers are, of course, free to break those conventions, but they should have a good reason for doing so, and should recognize that players might not be expecting it. I'll start off with one that I know can be contentious: * Mappers should make it clear to players which doors can be frobbed and which can't, preferably by using a 'dummy handle' on decorative doors. There are several simple handle models that don't move when the player frobs them (like the round door-knocker handle or curved static handle). If doors can't open and are only for decoration, they should use these kinds of handles. It allows the player to tell from a reasonable distance that the door is just decorative, but it looks better aesthetically than having doors with no handle at all. Doors that can open should use the more complicated handle models that rotate or move. NEVER use the same door handles on both decorative and functional doors in the same map.
