  1. Anyone else willing to test tdm_lg_split? You can revert it ya know :)

I can if we don't get enough volunteers.

  2. After being annoyed by the growing lack of organization, I recently updated the Performance Tweaks wiki: http://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=Performance_Tweaks

(The fix would bring TDM in line with 99% of games that offer FOV settings...)

Thanks for this. As they say, "be the change you want to see." It's up to all of us to keep things documented and organized.

  3. Now that Freyk's installer is completed, 2.04 article is up at Moddb: http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-dark-mod/news/the-dark-mod-204-is-out

Only tdminstaller for windows and playonmac/playonlinux are "completed"(stable). the other installers, linux deb/rpm and mac are work in progress. (for more info, see http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/16226-graphical-installers-for-tdm/ )

"culmination of over a year's with of bug fixes" should be "culmination of over a year's worth of bug fixes"

  4. Can we get some twitter followers to bump our GOG request? https://twitter.com/nbohr1more/status/755223433554825216

Congrats for the release! I'm sorry, but I've been swamped by other activities, so I haven't been mapping recently. "Coercion" will be released probably early in the autumn. Let's see...

  6. Who's gonna make "Sir Taffsalot's Manor"? This would totally screw with any forum regulars! (Also a rock'n'roll playing architect would be a cool guy to heist...)

      Sir Taffsalot

With regards to the opera house all the building work, readables, music composition and recording is done. I just need to stick loot and AI inside and do the objectives then it's beta testing time. Based on how much time I spend doing TDM stuff these days it will probs be my final contribution to TDM TBH.

      Goldwell

      Sir Taffsalot swan song! :)

Sir Taffsalot's Factory would be so metal.

They have some absolutely fantastic looking caves. I wonder wether their assets are free to use.

    2. Bikerdude

      Bikerdude

I beleive the author told me way back, that once it was release we would be allowed to use their assets.

  7. Got a little taste of Goldwell's "The Accountant 2" last night. I can already tell this is gonna be a must-play top-10 mission.

    1. Nico A.

Looking forward to it tonight, the first part of the series was awesome

@nbhor - have you updated moddb with the latest version -1.1?

  10. According to this Japanese site. Even "Weak People" can design missions for TDM: https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://www.nurs.or.jp/~pine/hot-darkmod.htm&prev=search

Nigate, Literally "bitter handed", applied to people meaning "people who are bad at it", but that doesn't really flow in English either.

The votes from each thread will be calculated at the conclusion of the contest and the highest rated entrant will win. We have yet to have a contest where the entries are voted on directly though that would be an interesting thing to compare.

    3. Obsttorte

      Obsttorte

Why not opening a thread for a vote for this missions. Maybe two votes, like first and second place, and than calculate it from there (by weighting the first place times two or so).

    4. nbohr1more

      nbohr1more

Melan specified the terms and all the entrants agreed to them so we would need a consensus about that change from all entrants. Not that I object, we would just need approval from the mappers. I can open an unofficial vote thread though.

  11. Goldwell's mission is shaping-up nicely too! This may be the closest race we've seen since that (fantastic) newbie contest.

  12. Halloween is in 15 days... "Extra super fast" speedbuild contest? ( LOL )

  13. SteveL is killing those bug tracker entries like crazy today!!!

  14. Another Chalice mission arrives. Bikerdude and Xarg have fixed-up Fidcal's "Chalice of Kings" for v2.03!

    1. Show previous comments  1 more
    2. Xarg

      Xarg

That just leaves The Alchemist, and all the TD missions are post 2.0 compliant, woo!

    3. Bikerdude

      Bikerdude

      Working on that one next.

  15. Skacky's "Chalice of Souls" (Thief Gold) is out!!!!

    2. Melan

      Melan

And it is quite good too! (BTW, it is a group effort - and most of the first mission is actually NOT by skacky. As strange as it sounds.)

      Tarhiel

      Looks solid, downloading.

  16. Just had to undo a Wikipedia revison that redirtected the entire TDM page to a small mention on the Id Tech 4 page...

I've added claims of notability to the top of the article: the PC Gamer award, and distribution by print magazines. Also opened a "notability" discussion on the talk page, so other editors are bound by the rules to respond there with arguments before before removing the article again.

    3. SteveL

      SteveL

@jaxa I guess we're no longer a doom3 mod, but that link should go back in.

    4. jaxa

      jaxa

Obviously it started out as a Doom3 mod, versions of it on computers out there are Doom mods, and taking away the category makes the game harder to find.

  17. r_useIndexBuffers was broken in drivers in ancient times. It seems that once again enabling this slows things down a bit rather than speeding things. AMD users is it working well for you?

    1. SteveL

      SteveL

We use index vbos by default. I'd have expected stuff to slow down without index buffers, because you need more data for a model without them. Am I reading your message right?

    2. nbohr1more

      nbohr1more

Yes, disabling Index Buffers runs slightly better on current Nvidia drivers, contrary to expectations. (Except for when you are used to Nvidia coming from bizarro world with their drivers).

  18. Has anyone tried RwgTex for Normal Map compression? https://github.com/paulvortex/RwgTex

    1. motorsep
    2. nbohr1more

      nbohr1more

Is the RXGB compression any better than Compressonator (ATI)?

    3. motorsep

      motorsep

The tools uses both AMD and NVidia libs, so I am sure it uses Nvidia for normal maps compression and it's quite good.

  19. Got a nice performance boost after upgrading my motherboard BIOS.

      MoroseTroll

      Maybe. But who knows?

    3. nbohr1more

      nbohr1more

Yeah. I'm not gonna revert to the old BIOS to find out. I just thought id share. That said, this was the most nerve wracking BIOS update I ever did. The tool was so wonky I was sure I bricked the motherboard doing it until I finally saw the 2nd boot splash

    4. MoroseTroll

      MoroseTroll

So your MB have no double BIOS feature? That's weird! Anyways, congrats with happy update :).

  20. Oh crap! I forgot we host Darkradiant on sourceforge. They'll probably start injecting malware now that their business is wrecked.

What a mess. Can Google or some other OpenSource advocate please buy these guys out... Argh!!!

    3. jaxa

      jaxa

Wreck an "open source business", get bought by Google. I'm sensing innovation there nbohr

    4. nbohr1more

      nbohr1more

Oh, I doubt there's any conspiracy happening. Sourceforge was riding on the new hotness of Slashdot and the valley culture. They just sat on their ass whilst Github and Reddit ate their lunch.

  21. NewDark has Object LOD now. Maybe folks will be able to play Soul Tear's missions on low-end systems now. ;)

Could help with new versions of EP. They could include LOD assets so all missions automatically benefit.

Has there been a new NewDark release?

    4. nbohr1more

The latest NewDark is now in both Tfix and TafferPatcher.
