  1. here is the result of the first pieces of code I wrote for tdm. I know this is very simple for you guys but it took me a few days to figure this out lol. It was a good way for me to start understanding the scripting language and the way you guys have the scripts laid out. I haven't got the hover action or click action working yet, not sure why.
  2. Hi guys, through the "cheats" topic I got the idea, that it would be quite useful, if there were tags for missions (the post was about removing the killing restriction in some missions to suit the prefered play style). I don't know how easy or difficult this is, but with them, it would be quite convenient to pick missions with playstyles, environment, etc one does want to use. This could also be expanded to other mission properties. I remember a discussion about climbable drains, handles on doors, that cannot be picked and other things the map author chooses for himself. That way these things would be clearer and as I said before, it is easier to choose missions with playstyles that suit oneself. What do think?

Exactly..!! He is the one who inspired the Like's of Melan and Skacky!

  3. There was a thread somewhere, something about "the 5 most important things you need to know when starting to map" where, obviously, you could discuss what skills beginners should know. Does anyone know what I mean? I can't find it and since I want to start mapping that would be a great read

My top tip: use google to search for info on both wiki and forum together, instead of using the nearly-useless built-in search boxes. Add

      site:thedarkmod.com

      to your search terms.

Also, ask in the forum. Lots of people here are happy to help make up for missing documentation.

  4. Google mobile is on the forums online user lists (in addition to google)... never seen that before

He's a pretty cool guy. You ask him to find stuff and he'll usually turn up the goods. A little nosy though...

  5. Quick FAQ: What is this thread for ? It is for discussing the narrative elements of a fan mission you're working on, and how they tie into the gameplay and technical aspects of the mission. If you're stuck with developing the plot for your FM, or are unsure of how to continue, or have the feeling your writing is not up to snuff, you can always seek advice in this thread. Why did you start this in the Editor's Guild ? Truth be told, I was seriously considering starting this thread in the I Want to Help subforum, but then I noticed (and realised) that most of the FM development threads are in the Editor's Guild anyway. So, I decided to rather start this discussion over here, in order to avoid making it "orphaned". But I have a really minor storytelling question... Is it still okay to ask about it here ? Of course it is ! This is practically the only "official" thread on narrative design we have now, so feel free to ask about anything that's primarily related to the storytelling or characters of your FM, and so on... Do we already have any useful resources on narrative and storytelling design ? Oh, certainly. The Story and Plot Design article on our wiki, contributed by demagogue. You should definitely give it a read. Any other threads or articles you might recommend ? Sotha's Mission Design Tips article is also just as helpful as demagogue's (and quite entertaining in places). There's also the Inspiration Thread, providing mostly visual inspiration for FM building, and the Historical resources article, providing links and bibliography for topics related to period living and social history that could influence an FM's design and events. If you find any more in that vein, feel free to recommend them here, and I'll add them to an impromptu list. ---- Ladies and gentlemen, the thread is your's. ---- (Last updated: 18 April 2018)
  6. Personally I think this is the worst idea ever. The Reason forums has LOADS of info and knowledge, built up through years and years. I'm really sad to see it go away, and I can't understand why they've made this decision. https://www.propellerheads.se/forum/showthread.php?p=1579099#poststop
  7. Testing... my thread posts aren't working...

  8. I'm browsing the "inspiration" thread from the sky somewhere just south of Iceland. First time I've been on a plane with Wi-Fi. Our European planes don't have this, or at least, not the airlines I usually fly on :-)

I've been considering reinstalling TDS for a wile now... I've still got my original CDs. Have these guys fixed the bug where you get stuck floating? Last time I played TDS, that happened and I was unable to get out of it, so I ragequit.

    3. chakkman

      chakkman

You can surpass that bug by drawing your bow, performing a shot, and draw your blackjack when the bow is tensioned, to abort the bow shot. I'm hoping it's fixed in the Gold patch too though. Alongside the thing where you move sideways, when peeking left or right.

      @Biker Hmm.

      Build TDM mission in DR.

      Export as portions as ASE

Edit in Blender and export in TDS compatible format

      Import into T3ED

      Edit

      Release TDS mission...

      (or just stick with TDM)

This looks cool, somehow oldschool in a nice way.

I hope the gameplay is unique to justify him reinventing the wheel instead of, e.g., just forking off of us. The art design looks good.

  10. There is an own topic for FTL, but what other Roguelikes people around here play? I played Nethack in the past, but for modern standards, it feels a bit clunky, and the learning curve is very harsh. You learn the risk-level of every monster by getting killed by it. Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is one of my favourites, in addition to FTL. It very easily approached and witholds no information. You get a lot of data of enemies by looking at them, and features a nice mouse driven UI. It combines the best parts of Nethack but is very user friendly. There is an android app, too, so you can play it on the run! Highly recommended! Tome4 (Tales of Maj'Eyal) I tried just recently (yesterday). It is highly appreciated and has won several roguelike contests, but I have a bit mixed feelings about it. Sure it is pretty, and has particle effects, sound effects, beautiful artwork, and all but... I dunno, the DD4 edition-style character-power-based gameplay with no consumables feels a bit too simplified for me. Consumables have always been like an ace in the sleeve of the player. Powers work like in FTL: you use, for example, the shield bash skill, and it returns after a cooldown period. The UI is very user friendly, but still there is something about this game that puts me off. It was very easy in the beginning: so easy it was almost frustrating. Then suddenly a level 23 monster appeared and killed me. The monster did not look much different from the lvl 4-6 fodder I bashed down with impunity. It may be I haven't learned to ropes yet, but somehow encountering new baddies in Dungeon Crawl always provoked fear. I probably got desensitized by the too easy start of Tome4. Will play more later.

  11. Maybe it's a good idea to collect all console commands etc in one topic? like this one: and others like add/remove indicators and important command lines..
