  1. I think the reason the dev forums exist is to provide a place where the implementation of features can be discussed without getting mixed up with other debates when someone believes what the devs are doing is wrong. We often post public discussion threads for features with subjective elements like the frob outline, because community feedback is very important. But there will always be vocal defenders with strong views for or against certain features, or how exactly it should be implemented in their opinion. At some point a decision has to be made and be carried through, which is what the dev forums are for. Almost all of the threads are very technical, basically explaining and discussing recent or potential code changes with other devs. Its hard to say. Its a hobby the devs do in their spare time, so people come and go when they're in the mood and when they have the time. The team page is mostly accurate except for some relatively newer additions like myself.
  2. That moment you log into TDM forums and suddenly feel nostalgic...

Protip: if you never log off and stay for ever, there is no nostalgia when you visit.

Haha yeah, I feel like that from time to time. Good to see you around.

  3. I just read@motorsep Discovered that you are able to create a brush, then select it and right click "create light". Now you have a light that ha the radius of the former brush. Just read it on discord and thought it may be of use for some people in the forums here too.
  4. I just found this thread on ttlg listing Immersive Sims: https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=151176
  5. Evening Atm I have a bunch of shortcuts for my various mission in my quicklanch and a main shortcut on my desktop. The mission shortcuts are as follows - E:\Darkmod\TheDarkMod.exe +set com_allowConsole 1 +set r_fullscreen 0 +set fs_currentfm campaign I would like to force the short on my desk(which i use to play a mission rather than test it) to full screen and use a specified resolution (1680*1050),I can force to full screen but not at the correct res. So my question is can I edit the shortcut to suit or perhaps run a custome config file..?
  6. Cheers! I only run DR from Git as there's no appimage for Linux and flatpak requires configuring an external repository over a simple "download and run" approach, I should however be on the Git commit of the 3.7.0 release. I only noticed one obvious issue: When trying to add new windows to the new interface, DR will often crash and close on itself. Going to Windows and trying to open the Light Inspector for instance always crashes for me. Same as View - New XY view / New camera view, instant crash if I touch those. I like the new window setup otherwise! For example it's easier to permanently put the Surface Inspector on the Properties bar instead of having a new window pop up when you press S then having to close it. I got used to having all 3 2D views open at once, but using just one with Control + Tab to switch is actually better... though considering how often we have to do that I'd consider making the default shortcut just Tab if possible.
  7. I got a feature in the works, allowing to select and manipulate only "focused" items, which should hopefully be useful for manipulating grouped items without having to disband the group. There's a demo video here: https://www.darkradiant.net/images/videos/selection_focus.mp4 It works like this: You select some items in the map. It doesn't matter what it is, it can be a group or many groups or just two unrelated brushes. Hit Ctrl-F to enter focus mode (the command is called "ToggleSelectionFocus" if you want to bind your own shortcut) Your actions will be restricted to just that selection You cannot select other items that are not in the group (unless you use Layer or Filter selections, or Invert selection) You'll get a visual indication about the focused items in the ortho view Grouping information is ignored while in focus, you can select single parts of any group You can select, move, rotate, delete, edit vertices etc. Hit Ctrl-F again to exit, or (maybe more intuitively) hit ESC until you left the focus The previous selection (before entering focus) is now active again, you can proceed manipulating that I'd appreciate if you folks could have a go and try it and then give feedback about it. There's no release yet, but you can grab a portable release from Github: https://github.com/codereader/DarkRadiant/actions/runs/3403010325
  8. Thank you for this beautiful and much needed change! One of the biggest limitations in DR was that you couldn't edit items in a group without first ungrouping everything, and since you want things like prefabs to stay grouped having to group it all back after making changes was the other part of the pain. Now we finally no longer need to ungroup / change / regroup and the feature also allows preventing changes to other areas you aren't working on Gave it a quick test in latest Git and it seems to be working great. Only thing I'd change is adding a toolbar icon for this: I'll likely be using the Control + F shortcut exclusively but that's good to have in case we ever forget it.
  9. Got it, tested and it works! For anyone else looking to use this trick, these are the full arguments you need to pass to your shortcut and add after darkradiant.exe, obviously for your respective FM and OS: /home/mircea/Games/Quake/TheDarkMod/darkmod/fms/testing/maps/test.map fs_game=fms/testing Note that for thedarkmod.exe you need a different format for some reason, it's "+set var val" instead of "var=val". +set fs_currentfm testing But you can't use the Recent Files list to jump between editing FM's and have it automatically work: If my suggestion is possible as an option I hope you can keep it in mind. For now I'll add those shortcuts to every FM I'm editing which helps!
  10. Is there also a parameter to load the map in cause? For single-map FM's this would also make the shortcut open exactly the map you need so you don't have to look for it and open separately.
  11. The shortcut variant is something like this: C:\path\to\dr\DarkRadiant.exe fs_game=fms/mission Depending on whether you have spaces in your paths, some quoting might be required.
  12. Thanks for the explanation. My only remaining curiosity then: Would it make sense to offer it as an option still (off by default) for those who don't find a performance an issue? I haven't noticed much additional reload time when changing the active FM in DarkRadiant so I could likely use it well. But I can understand why this change might not be possible. And I'd love to know what that command line parameter for DarkRadiant is! I use Linux but presume they're named the same way as the Windows exe. I already use a custom shortcut to launch TDM for testing my FM without changing the selected FM, via the super helpful "+set fs_currentfm my_fm_name" argument: I take it for DR it's something similar?

I've found it difficult to find where TDM is listed as #1 on Greenlight. This page ( https://steamcommunity.com/greenlight/ ) has no ranked listing. This one ( https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=858048394 ) has no visible rank or stats page. Is it my script blocker?

  13. Recently revisiting the forums after a longer period of time I wanted to check the unread content. I don't know if I am doing this wrong since.. ever... but on mobile (visiting the unread content page on my smartphone) you have to click on that tiny speech bubble to go to the most recent post in a thread. If you don't click correctly you'll hit the headline and end up at post 1 in the beginning of the thread. It's terrible on mobile, since not only the speech bubble is really small and was to miss. But also the thread headline is just millimeters away from it so you go right to the first post that was ever made instead of the most recent ones. Am I doing it wrong? I just want to go through u read content a d the to the newest post from that topic.
  14. A@datiswous Ah yeah, well sorry, I was quiet busy and only visiting discord. First time here on the forums since months now I think.. Thank you for the subtitles. I encourage everyone who is interested in using them to download it from here as I'm not sure when I'll be able to implement them myself into the mission. Again, thank you for your work.
  15. Afternoon guys. Is there a way to set engine path in a windows shortcut to DR, like you can with fs_game? I want to use two different TDM installations but don't want to duplicate my DR installation if I don't need to.
  16. I think it is a good idea! Our ingame mission downloader and mission view has long been subject of multiple improvement suggestions. Due to the sheer mass of missions that have been released in the last 15 years, things got really cluttered and especially newcomers will have a hard time finding what they want. However, improving the ingame guis is quite a task, so a web-based application might really suit this scenario well. Maybe we could even add a linke to it from our ingame menus, so user can access it quicker. Some more things to think about Would users be able to add custom tags and downvote / upvote certain tags, much like the system of Steam? This would also allow to add tags like "beautiful", or "difficult". Actually, the more users can contribute to this system, the better, because it will be automatically maintained then. The browser should also contain a flag for whether the FM belongs to a connected series of FMs or not and have the capability to go to the previous or next FM in that series. There should also be a flag for fully fledges campaigns. Some might like a flag whether or not an FM is "ghostable".

  18. Hey, Every time I've try to use the Full Editor when PM'ing someone, and every single time I get an error. Whoever is in charge of the forum, is it possible that this could be fixed? Thanks Neon
  19. Yes, it does. Which makes it interesting that you yourself explicitly said that it's interesting nobody had complained here on the official forums: I did, which is why it stood out to me so much that even though you yourself had personally been involved you would reply claiming nobody had complained here on the official forums. I'm not colorblind at all. Does that make people pointing out that almost no modern games have proper colorblindness support hyperbole? Just because it doesn't affect you, or you choose not to pay attention to the discussion of something, doesn't make it hyperbole. Pick pretty much any modern FPS and you will find plenty of discussion about the near universal disregard for FOV and camera movement as accessibility issues. Denigrating those as hyperbole because you personally don't feel the affects is as bad of a look as demeaning people who bring up the importance of valid allergen warnings like gluten or colorblindness and deafness support.
