Yeah that picture of houses stacked on each other reminds me of the flavelas in Rio.

Cool little retro-looking video (in style & content).

BTW, speaking of music, does anyone listen to actual medieval or renaissance music for inspiration? I do, love ballads, folk music, church chorals, and madrigals... It helps me to get into the medieval way of thinking.

Something like

Or on the other side of the coin

I love listening to music thats close to the timeline of TDM. I mostly listen to Classic FM (a British radio station that plays classical music) when mapping. I absolutely love church chorals. They are very powerful and inspiring. I really like the reverb you get from cathedrals too.

I was listening to Medieval music on YouTube just yesterday.

I can't listen to music with words while working - too distracting. I stick to classical, movie trailer music (Two Steps From Hell, etc.), medieval (Gregorian chant is fine because I don't understand Latin), instrumental.

Same thing here. Classical, movie soundtracks. Not much medieval music, though. Too chrismas-y.

Grayman and other people interested in movie soundtracks should find this internet radio interesting: http://www.loudcity.com/stations/cinemix/files/show/cinemix_mp3.pls

I generally listen to debates and lectures while I'm working. When I walk through my map, I often find myself remembering whatever was playing when I worked on that section. :)

The music was also very enjoyable though monotonic :)

I think it's supposed to sound "monotonic". Its about someone with a heart of stone so it makes sense that it feels like theres a lack of emotion. Most of their stuff is more emotional. They're kind of a 50s garage rock band with a subtle gothic influence. I definately recomend checking The Raveonettes out if you like something different.

I love Theif 2 soundtrack for inspiration, and in part, Thief DS. Man, what an outstanding piece of work it is! I wonder what game that guy Brosius doing right now.

Especially "Shipping and Receiving" piece

Eric Brosius works at Harmonix (i.e. Guitar Hero). Here's a link to a podcast interview with him about his work at LGS and beyond: http://gambit.mit.edu/podcasts/lgs/podcast7_brosius.mp3 .

While were on the subject of music one of the bands that really reminds me of the original Thief games is a British band called Portishead. Instead of focussing on melody they focus on atmosphere. Their songs are very dark and the instruments and vocals are ever so subtle and minimum sounding. It's like listening to music thats supposed to be hidden away. Listening to Portishead makes me feel like I'm in a secret place.

Those red walls! I would love to have done these scenes! It comes from a photoset named "Walls of Wine" by Sven Fennema,

Actually, the artist's whole site is great.

Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum. -- Collected letters of the Smith-in-Exile, Civitas Approved

I posted about it before, but I think the default tdm logo video looks outdated. For a (i.m.o.) better looking version, you can download the pk4 attached to this post and plonk it in your tdm root folder. Every mission that starts with the tdm logo then starts with the better looking one. Try for example mission COS1 Pearls and Swine.

I finished DOOM - The Dark Ages the other day. It is a decent shooter, but not as great as its predecessors, especially because of the soundtrack.
