I can't make out a thing other than the fact that they're playing with controllers. <_<

@7upMan: Thanks for posting those images here, man. I saw them over at TTLG or something and there's an interesting point on that storyboard thing.

The first few people mentioned an "emo garrett" (or some other derivative of the same thing), and it got me thinking. Could the main character of Thi4f actually be a female?

My brother then reminded me of how Thief: Deadly Shadows ended. Anyone remember? :D

What do you guys think?

It's sort of feminine. Anything's possible.

If that storyboard is about the gameworld (not a cutscene), then that's an interesting scenario... watching through the window at an NPC AI putting on a necklace, sneaking through an aviary so if you made a noise the birds would go crazy , an AI (ghost?) walking around with a parasol, a smoke filled room with the smoke coming from a mysterious door. It's visually interesting anyway. Not that concept art ever has much more than an inspirational link to how games turn out.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

Yeah, but if the character was to be female in the release, it would make sense as a continuation to where TDS left off. Something that might come as a slightly larger shock to the "die hard" Thief fans that never bothered playing through TDS...

I even once had the fear of Thief 4 being in modern day, so those storyboard drawings are at least a little assuring in my eyes as to what the setting will be like. O_O

Now there's the gameplay issue, and that will most likely be a thorny path to anyone keen on how Thief 1, 2 and (kinda) 3 played...

To be fair

It's not meant to be great artwork SH, it's barebones storyboarding. That's why it "looks like Sin City", because it's just light and dark, no colour, to go through ideas and pacing for things. The artist, Marlone Deane, probably was told to hammer out dozens of those in a day based on a script thrown on his desk which went through a dozen different takes for an intro or promotional sequence.

The aviary in particular looks very interesting.

TDS ended with Garrett gabbing a little boy who wanted to snatch his purse, just like the intro in Thief 1. Was ist a girl?

It would actually make sense in the context.

Yeah, not even with re-sizing the picture I could get anything out of it. That the devs are playing the game with controllers is a bad sign, IMO. I really did hope they'd choose the PC as the lead platform.

Quite apart from interest in the concepts I love those art roughs - as art - even though it was never intended to be admired as 'art' but to be used as working drawings. To capture a stance or a movement in a few lines and a bit of shading and shadow has a special quality. Just look at what's there and not compare or wish it were something else. Low art or high art who cares - it's art.

Well, yeah. Could be either really, but I perceived it to be a girl at the time. Could also be their "open door" so it could be interpreted as either in the next game. But that it would indicate some other person as the main character I have no reason to deny, just because it "ends" the way it all "started".

So I think it's valid to expect that Garrett is not the main character in Thi4f (which everyone is allowed to praise or moan about as they see fit), but that he probably has something to do with the story still.

Wild speculations are fun, but just that- speculations. :D

Looks like a storyboard for a promo animation, might even be roughly based on the game "stolen" the thief in that was a girl, or a ninja and not a thief, eg clothes look more like what a ninja would wear. Those birds in cages in that room the thief sneaks through is more akin to japan than a steampunk european city. If they start adding blowpipes with poison tip darts then its a ninja based game.

A couple shots look like there _might_ be a bow on his/her back, although in the last shot there clearly isn't one.

I for one would pay £50 on release day for a game which was an entire city of hellish places like The Cradle. =-D

Not me. I didn't manage to play Amnesia for more than 5 minutes straight. I am definitely not going to buy a Thief that's following that road.

I bet Thi4f will be even more far away from part one and two as part three was (just remember the Gothic tragedy). Is because I'm getting old or are games getting flat these days?

Games are definitely getting flat these days, I'm afraid.

They are also getting shorter and shorter since high-end cinematic graphics takes far more resources and time to produce than in the past.... Uh.. For slightly less advanced graphics so to say...

Gothic 3 was different, yes, but it was great game, not as good as G1/2 ,but not the shame of the series.

Deus Ex 3 is a good game,it different and worse than Deus Ex 1,but it still the good Deus Ex game

T3 is the real shame, but it was that bad because of tech limitations of fuckxbox. If t3 was PC oriented,it'll be a great game

Of course,T4 is console oriented, but modern consoles is more powerful,so there will be no loading zones.I',m pretty sure swimable water will return, not sure about rope arrows, because its hard to do nice rope climbing in third person

I still don't get why the hell they would make Thi4f third person to begin with. Like what's wrong with them?

They turn games like Syndicate and Fallout into first person games and they turn first person games into third person games?

This can't possibly be what people mean when they say "development"... It's fucking backwards is what it is...

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.
