I want to love this mission, but they used the same short background ambient loop throughout 80% of it and it really gets old after a wile. Shame too, because I can tell that a hell of a lot of effort was put into making this mission and I love the idea of taking an existing environment from the game, fleshing it out and expanding on it with a new story and new locations/sections to explore.

Wow does that look painful. Anyone who thinks their PC struggles with games should watch this. It goes to show that just because you can modify a game to work on an older computer than it was designed for, doesn't mean that it's a good idea. And we now know why id didn't bother supporting anything below a 286.

Now this is impressive. Custom game engine being made for and targeted at a machine from 1986, way before FPS games ever went mainstream. The frame rate is good and fast, the window size is very big. The engine is more complex than Wolfenstein 3D, but still not on par with Doom. Only three ceiling heights are allowed.

 

But the performance is the most impressive thing since this machine definitely was not designed for games like this.

Smell that? It's what I call "Plandemic pricing". An entry level graphics card now costs $330, and that is before all of the inventory is automatically bought by bots to be sold for twice as much on Ebay, thereby allowing GPU manufacturers to raise the MSRP even more.

Still can't believe how futuristic this is. Nowadays it's a little cheesy but it still looks very futuristic.

      Taking a break to alleviate burnout. In retrospect, I probably shouldn't have jumped into a map-making contest so quickly after just finishing another project and especially with my busy schedule, but I do believe I have something that the community will enjoy. No clue if I'll be able to finish it on time for the competition if I factor in a break, but I'd rather take my time and deliver something of quality rather than engage in development crunch or lose part of the map's soul to burnout.
