  1. Carnage

    Free games

Quite a few people probably don't know or don't remember that the Epic Store is giving away free games every week. As most people have very busy lives nowadays it can be difficult to remember to check the store every week. They have been giving away some pretty good games and it would be a shame to miss these. Therefore I will try to update this post every week with the games they are giving away until they stop doing it. This is obviously meant for people that are interested in downloading something from the Epic Store. This week you can download: The End Is Nigh https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8DUps2QKA0 The End Is Nigh is a sprawling adventure platformer where you die a lot, but that's ok because you are probably already dead anyway. https://www.epicgames.com/store/en-US/product/the-end-is-nigh/home ABZU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9d8YjpJgiU From the art director of Journey® and Flower®, ABZÛ is a beautiful underwater adventure that evokes the dream of diving. https://www.epicgames.com/store/en-US/product/abzu/home
  2. Is there something wrong with the forums lately, or is it my browser? I've been having trouble formatting posts, and just now I couldn't format anything at all.

    I'm using Vivaldi.

Usually I have to: select text, click bold, nothing happens, select again, click bold, then it works.

Same for other stuff, like creating spoilers, bullet points, links. Nothing works the first time.

      datiswous

I have no problem. I use Firefox. @Zerg Rush also uses Vivaldi. Have you tried without extensions, or in another browser?

(btw. bold, italic and underline have shortcut keys: Ctrl B, Ctrl I and Ctrl U, you could try that)

  3. Making another set of tut vids reminded me that I need a reasonable video editor, I have a copy of Windows movie maker but thats a bit long in the tooth and is cpu bound. So thought I'd ask if anyone uses or knows of an Open source and free video editor they can recommend? I currently use the following OpenSource/Free tools - OBS Studio and classic for capturing and streaming video.Handbrake for reducing the sized of the above vids.Audacity for working on audio.
  4. I came across this site: https://www.rijksmuseum.nl/en They offer incredible quality pictures of art. I emailed them about including their images free of charge under CC license and they replied with: They are pretty amazing quality, just for testing I made one with a pretty picture and threw it in the game. They have a ton of stuff that would fit our time period I think. https://www.rijksmuseum.nl/en/rijksstudio
  5. I don't know if this is any use to TDM but if I don't post it we'll never know https://sonniss.com/gameaudiogdc Apologies if this is in the wrong folder, please feel free to move the thread or remove the thread if it's no use
  6. Since Aluminum directed me here ( https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/9082-newbie-darkradiant-questions/page/437/#comment-475263 ) can we have unlimited renderer effects? Well, maybe not unlimited, by maybe 3-5? Thanks.

Since I wasn't the one mainly asking, I'll just cite you in the original thread instead.

There already is a kind of sorting, sort nearest, sort decal, sort <n>. For things like windows and such, sort nearest should probably have the desirable affect, though looking through multiple translucent shaders might kill performance.

    4. Nort

      Nort

Is having multiple render effects really killing performance that badly? I don't understand. You're saying that if I have two transparent objects side-by-side, then they'll just count as two render effects, but when combined, they somehow become something much more difficult to render?

Never-the-less, unless we're talking some kind of infinite portal problem, why not let the mapper choose how much he wants to kill performance? Just warn him against putting too many effects close together.

  7. Here's something I found out about the other day, for all the stealth action fans. Apparently the engine and the game code for Monolith's No One Lives Forever 2 has been released under GPLv2 about two years ago. http://freegamer.blo...o-what-end.html The game was already open source since 2007, but as most games with and SDK release, it was bound by a more or less restrictive engine that only allowed you to modify the original game. The later release, however, appears to be licensed under GPLv2 hence pretty much allowing any developers to make their own games with it, if they wish so. As for NOLF2 itself, I persnally consider it to be one of the best stealth action games around right below the Thief series. The AI could use some improvement (most of the times it's actually TOO smart) and the game mostly forces players to kill their way into the objectives instead of using pure stealth, but the game is still incredibly deep, and entertaining. For those who have never played any game of NOLF series, here's a little trailer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spxATsZoYIg And here's a link for the source code itself, since the one in the article appears to be dead http://www.atomicgam...-code-and-tools And a githubbed version of someone who has already been trying to make a multiplatform version of it. https://github.com/penenin/lithtech
  8. Since G Suite became Google Workspace, legacy users have been able to retain free access to its work-oriented collaborative office web apps. On July 1st, however, this will no longer be the case, and enterprise users will need to pay for access. In an email sent out to business administrators today, Google stated that they will have until May 1st to select which paid plan they wish to migrate to. After that date, Google will automatically migrate them “based on what [they] currently use with [their] G Suite legacy free edition.” If Google automatically selects a plan for you, you will not be billed for two months following the change. If users decide not to enter payment information by July 1st, Google will flag their accounts as suspended. The company notes the following: "After 60 days in suspension, you will no longer have access to Google Workspace core services, such as Gmail, Calendar, and Meet. You may still retain access to additional Google services, such as YouTube and Google Photos. Enter a valid form of payment to restore your suspended account." If you do not wish to pay for Google Workspace, the company has gone ahead and published a support article detailing how to export your organization's data. Pricing information is available on workspace.google.com/pricing.html. Nonprofits and Education (Fundamentals) plans will still be free for those that qualify. https://alternativeto.net/news/2022/1/google-will-no-longer-allow-free-workspace-access-to-g-suite-legacy-users-starting-july-1st/ https://9to5google.com/2022/01/19/g-suite-legacy-free-edition/
  9. Hey all, I just noticed on the TTLG forums that Xorax released a large (1600+) set of textures for public use. I browsed through them and they match well with TDM. While they don't have normal maps, I'd still recommend giving them a once-over. Here's the TTLG thread: https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=151606

It wont be long now :) ...

  11. I don't think we have a thread where we can post and discuss free or indie games in general. I was browsing Gamejolt site and found a few interesting ones. http://gamejolt.com/games/action/dungeon-nightmares/25444/ Spooky random dungeon. Really foreboding atmosphere. The game constantly makes the player jump with a variety of effects, and it seems to be working, since the jump-causing effect varies a lot and one never knows what could happen. Interesting piece of work. Especially for FMAs interested in horror-type missions. In the field of horror, SCP containment breach is also a notable piece of work. Too bad the engine sucks so badly. http://www.scpcbgame.com/ http://gamejolt.com/games/shooter/super-wolfenstein-hd-now-with-realistic-physics/39194/ Wolfestein shooter with heavy focus on physics. Quite impressive, really. And also funny, as the AI are heavily physics controlled, and are flailing about like drunken astronauts when you hit them. The end boss is a must-see, as he fires twin miniguns that make him shoot all over the place because of the recoil of the guns.
  12. I don't think there's a link to thedarkmod.com on forums.thedarkmod.com ...

Yeah and the wiki and moddb. It should have those links in the footer I think. Probably easy to add by an admin.

Edit: And a link to the bugtracker. I'm always searching for a post in the forum that links to that because I can't remember the url.

Reluctance to improve the forums is matched by reluctance to allow more people to work on it. Talk about trust and power.

  13. Given that I have observed that some of you have Google accounts to save Screenschots and various images, I have thought of reporting this change in Google's policy, which from From June 1 of this year it no longer allows the uploading of images for free, when the total of 15 Gb in the general services of the account is exceeded (Gdrive, Gmail and others). The best alternatives would then be the Onedrive account, which still has a limit of 1 Terabyte, or ImgBox or Imgur, both free without storing limits and also provide better links to share. https://gsmarena.com/google_photos_will_stop_offering_free_image_uploads_on_june_1_2021-news-46242.php https://imgbox.com/ (ImgBoxen is in my opinion the best alternative, although it only supports uploads from the PC, but admits Bulk uploads and give forumlinks for Bulk Share) https://imgur.com/ (It also supports uploads from the network, but is more limited in the maximum size of the files)
  14. It's not easy to get music for free. Even more difficult, though it is somewhat strange, medieval music and similar ones that fit TDM missions (FMA only has contemporany music) Sometimes I find in various missions a really nice soundtrack (e.g. in Requiem-Beata Viscera) and a few more in some tavern by some trobadur, but this is usually limited to short 4-5 chord loops that are only irritating. Of course, there are several sites that have music without copyright that can be downloaded, but either only for private use or paying. That's why I searched the network and found a site that may be interesting and that allows you to download the files for free (mp3 - paid only if you want HQ and wav file) and with CC license, that is, they only need to add the author in the credits. You can use this music also for comercial use and therefore in TDM Misions. https://www.free-stock-music.com/search.php?keyword=medieval

I've found it difficult to find where TDM is listed as #1 on Greenlight. This page ( https://steamcommunity.com/greenlight/ ) has no ranked listing. This one ( https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=858048394 ) has no visible rank or stats page. Is it my script blocker?

  16. Was looking around at some Unity/Unreal tutorials, and I found these: https://megascans.se/ http://devassets.com/ Dev Assets is totally free to use, doesn't matter what you're doing, but I don't know if there's anything there that's TDM suitable. Megascans has a limited but nice-looking selection under "free", but their licensing might not allow for free use?
  17. I'm going dark

Feel free to reassign all my tickets and delete unfinished work (multi-light shaders, x-ray view, etc) in trunk

Special thanks to @nbohr1more and @stgatilov for putting up with my countless bugs and making great company

      Sad to hear.
I hope you are OK, and it's just real life that needs attention.

Thank you for working on the game!
Despite my complaints, you have improved TDM a lot. Without you, rendering would have been near Doom 3 level still.

Duzhenko, whatever it is, I hope everything will go well for you. Thank you for all the hard work so far for the community. Come back anytime you'd want. As far as I'm concerned, the door will be always open and the light always on for you. Best wishes, P.

  18. It occurred to me that I'm still missing credits for 2 models that I found on free online repositories. Checking those websites again, it turns out that they don't state anywhere who made any of their models (one of the websites says it's for 3d printing). This makes it very doubtful whether I can use these models, because it's possible they're being distributed on these websites without their authors' consent. Is there maybe some hope for something that could redeem my use of these models?

    Free Games

There are a couple of threads about games being free and most are free only for a limited time, so I decided to start one dedicated thread for free games to reduce the clutter of dead threads with only a few posts. To start off, I just saw that Payday 2 is free right now. I am not 100% if this is limited by time. One comment I saw, said that it is limited not by time but number of copies. I am not sure. Anyway, as it is a heist game, I thought it might interest a couple of people here. And maybe you can find a group of people to play it with here. Edit: I also just saw, that this game also has a Single Player mode, so you don't necessarily need a group to play with. Thinking that it doesn't have one was the main reason for me not to get it before...
  20. Quixel Mixer a very easy texture and PBR material maker is now totally free for everyone and according to them forever, all because of Epic Games. It is optimized to do PBR materials but is perfectly possible to convert those to normal TDM materials, all the textures are there, albedo = diffuse, normal map and in the case of UE4 pbr the specular map is just one of the channels of the ARM texture, you can see the channels in photoshop or extract one by one using xnview, inside the arm texture is the roughness map, the specular or metalness map and the ambient occlusion map. See how easy is to make textures with it:
  21. Not so long ago I found what could make a pretty good profile picture and decided to try it out on these new forums. But I couldn't find a button anywhere that would let me change it. I asked on Discord and it seems Spooks also couldn't find anything anywhere. So I logged into an old alternative account and, lo and behold, that account has a button. This is on the first screen I get when I: 1) click on my account name in the top-right of the browser -> 2) click on 'profile'. Compared to my actual account: Are you also missing this button on your account? It'd be very much appreciated if that functionality could be restored to any of the affected accounts.
  22. GOG is giving away Wasteland 2 Director's Cut Digital Classic Edition (a post-apocalyptic RPG) for the next +/- 45 hours. https://www.gog.com/game/wasteland_2_directors_cut_digital_classic_edition
  23. For a limited time and till stock lasts Humble Bundle is giving away a free Steam key for Endless Space (a 4 X strategy game). This is for one more day so act fast if this is your kind of game :).
