  1. I don't think there's a link to thedarkmod.com on forums.thedarkmod.com ...

      datiswous

Yeah and the wiki and moddb. It should have those links in the footer I think. Probably easy to add by an admin.

Edit: And a link to the bugtracker. I'm always searching for a post in the forum that links to that because I can't remember the url.

      Petike the Taffer

I drew attention to this several times in the last few years. No one payed it any attention, so I just gave up.

Reluctance to improve the forums is matched by reluctance to allow more people to work on it. Talk about trust and power.

  2. Beta 11 Fix finished-on state auto-update was unreliable Slighty improve scanner title/author detect Tags are now named some whatever regular-version-looking thing to force GitHub to put the newest at the top
  3. I recently had a crash with 2.12 with (beta) mission The Spider and the Finch, but it was a fire arrow and the crash happend at the moment of explosion, so I asumed it's performance related.
  4. Fresh start. Never with saves. High Expectations is my best bet to force a crash, followed by Volta Cauldron. I have experienced occasional crashes with the bow in different missions since I started playing TDM and I sometimes like playing with a self-imposed no-save policy and I learned not to trust the bow, hence my interest in this bug. In High Expectations I start the mission, take a right turn in the tunnel and go to the square where the Hotel is. I then start acting like crazy: run, crouch, mantle blackjack somebody, raise the bow, press buttons a dozen times, do something else... If I don't get the crash I restart the mission and try again. I eventually get the crash.
  5. I made High Expectations crash in my fresh virgin 2.12 so I don't think the version of the mission matters BUT it turned out I didn't have the latest version of the mission in TDM 2.11 because of the weird versioning thing going on with the built-in downloader. So I deleted the mission and downloaded the version offered by the downloaded and managed to get a new crash: https://www.mediafire.com/file/9nuvomhqkucup0t/qconsole_202310311733.zip/file
  6. Sorry, I don't do videos. The crash is triggered at a very specific moment, always when starting fire. You miss that moment and the game won't crash, I understand. Lieutenant 2: High Expectations is the best testbed. Spawn some broadheads and start doing any of the below in any order you want (but very fast): Raise broadheads and pretend to fire (press fire and quickly abort) Switch to Water arrows and pretend to fire Lower Bow Raise Blackjack Switch to Bow and pretend to fire ... It eventually crashes here.
  7. No dumb questions from you. I get the game to crash with and without mods but I don't use mods for these tests. I did manage to crash a fresh virgin 2.12 pretty easily. My TDM 2.11 isn't fresh but I make sure no modifications are present during the tests.
  8. Yes indeed, I would be surprised if it fixed by itself. This log files is rather useless in most cases. By the thing is: in case of bow crash, you won't see anything useful in console log either. We already know that bow attachments (or something like that) are unexpectedly killed by tdm_suicide script, but I have no freaking idea why this script runs. The chain of events is long, looking at things at the moment of crash won't help.
  9. I can access joebarnin to my PC via VNC ubuntu 22.04 LTS cinamon Desktop 50s vdsl give. only if he can play my dark mod One question is, is there a remote maintenance software that can do this? I don't have anything personal on my PC, just Darkmod
  10. Hi all! I'm running TDM in Parallels Desktop. When I start the mission (I tried the training mission and the first one), most of the textures are green or red. Please see attached image. Has anyone ever had issues with this before? Thanks!
  11. Anything but reliable, unfortunately. Sorry but I wouldn't waste time discussing the how: it happens by chance very rarely and I cannot guarantee anything except that I will do my best to crash my game as many times as I can. I need direction on how to get useful data out of the crash. Can someone prepare an ad-hoc exe, perhaps? That link you shared scares the hell out of me. As a start, I didn't receive a crash dump
  12. congrats on the release thanks for the great mission I played through it and everything worked Ubuntu 22.04 LTS cinnamon desktop .
  13. Edit: I don't know how often you want to use Linux, But I see the following options: Having Linux on a vitual environment (Hyper V) Dual booting Windows and Linux. Booting a Linux Live usb-stick and then booting tdm from a seperate Linux partition or harddrive (or maybe from that same usb-stick?). I never tried this, but possibly this is fast enough? You might need GPU passthrough for decent performance in Hyper V: https://www.techtarget.com/searchvirtualdesktop/tip/Running-GPU-passthrough-for-a-virtual-desktop-with-Hyper-V Also you need minimum Windows 11 pro (doesn't work on Home). Btw. I have no experience with Hyper V (because I don't use Windows)
  14. With TDM 2.12, after the credits finished, the "Mission Complete" screen did not display. I found that the screen was black and I could hear my footsteps when I tried to move around. I think the reason for the mission not completing successfully was that the "Do not kill or harm allies" objective was never marked as "1 = STATE_COMPLETE" instead it was left as "0 = STATE_INCOMPLETE". Note, I didn't use noclip throughout the mission. Same as: https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/18054-fan-mission-the-accountant-2-new-in-town-by-goldwell-20160509/&do=findComment&comment=458491
  15. How about using TDM automation framework (and maybe pcem/qemu)? More info see: https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/19828-automation-features-and-discussion/
  16. Alright, here is the crash dump, and here's my system info. Hopefully you can let me know if DR is something I can run on this laptop or not.
  17. If the "mission fails as soon as stealth score turns non-zero," that would not be good for ghost players. They might need to find out "how" they failed and experiment to avoid alerting guards. They might need to take those score points as a "bust". They might need to take those score points to complete an objective. Then, mission authors would need to encode exceptions into their missions, which would be a lot of work (if they decide to do it at all). However, part of what makes ghosting challenging and fun is when mission authors do not create their missions with ghosting in mind. Please see: Official Ghosting Rules: https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=148523 Writing code for these rules would be a huge undertaking. Ghost Rules Discussion: https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=148487 Creating an official mode could alienate these dedicated ghost players, because it would clash with what is considered ghosting in the community. Including the Stealth Stat Tool mod in the official release would be more useful. Or, making the audible alert states of guards quick and easy to recognize could help as well. For these reasons, I don't agree with an official "Ghost" mode. If the dev team were to do it, we should consult with @Klatremus so we get it 100% correct or not pursue it at all. (This ghosting bit should probably be in its own thread.)
  18. The newest version currently is 3.8.0. You could try previous versions (on Windows): https://www.darkradiant.net/download.html to see at which version you get the crash and to not miss too many features with your prehistorical old version 2.8. You can download a portable version of each, although the settings are shared, so it's not really portable.
  19. Yes: It could then be distributed as a mod that works universally. I may propose it for the modpack! I already did a brief test and it worked: I managed to give the player a guard head while the guard helmet was being worn! But soon after TDM would crash to the main menu, and after a few tweaks to the script even that stopped working and there's only the crash now. Likely some obscure internal issue that can be hopefully tackled in the engine. Thank you, that I shall! And the biggest issue with getting mods to work is the need for a tdm_custom_scripts.script which has been the biggest thorn in the backs of modders: I'd say either execute all scripts automatically the way all files are loaded, or if that's unsafe just allow a script carrying the name of the pk4 to be auto-executed.
  20. Well, I have good news and bad news. The good news is that I cannot reproduce the crash. The bad news is that I cannot reproduce the crash. It's odd. The crash used to happen frequently when I was learning combat skills on the Training Mission using 2.10. Today, I spent more than an hour trying 2.10 with and without a debugger and 2.11 beta 5 with a debugger. No crash yet. I also had a recent crash in the flooded section of "A Good Neighbor" during combat a few weeks ago. This crash hasn't bothered me too much, because I usually ghost or iron-ghost missions. So, my playstyle is not to engage in combat ever. But I do engage in combat sometimes before reloading just for the experience. I mainly hoped it could be fixed for others who enjoy combat or iron mode, though. I'll keep an eye on this. I hope it never occurs again, or I can get a backtrace of the crash someday. (I am now better at combat than I intended to be. )
  21. Thank you. I restarted the mission and this time no crash in the crypt.
  22. Say, I know it's been a while since the site got overhauled from the crash. But did we ever figure out if/how to get the recent topics & replies list back? It's not a total deal breaker but it was nice for becoming a thread creeper again...

In case you're concerned about upcoming mission titles being spoilered: the topic list on the right is permission-trimmed, it's only showing what you're allowed to see. At least it was like this the last time I checked.

Ok but everyone (logged in) has permission to see every topic in the TDM Mission Beta Testing  section afaik. But it's good that it's filtered for non forum members at least.

Oh, I wasn't aware that every member can see that forum. It used to be per invitation only in the past, I obviously missed that this has changed.

I didn't expect this to be possible, but there's in fact an option to select the forums that should show up in that block. I adjusted this to not show the Beta Testing forum now.

  23. Trying to play "The adventures of Thomas: Lucy's quest" This consistently crash when witnessing the "entertainment". What I tried: 1. Disabling SMT by "echo off > /sys/devices/system/cpu/smt/control" 2. Disabling all (except one) CPU's by issuing "echo 0 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpuN/online" Results: Neither of this changed anything- the same pthread_join() error and dump as above.
  24. To cater to both audiences. I mentioned LibreGameWiki as one example. nbohr1more mentioned other uses. Explicitly allowing reuse and spread will help TDM reach a wider audience and would hopefully attract more volunteers. More volunteers which can help improve both TDM versions. There are several benefits for a project of being in the Debian repo. One is that TDM Debian-users can report defects on any package directly to Debian (no need to register on separate forums). Debian may then fix the issue themselves (in their "TDM-libre" package) and will offer the patch upstream to TDM, who can then choose to accept or reject the patch. I envision "TDM-libre" to have the same capability of downloading any mission as regular TDM. The only difference is that "TDM-libre" would come packaged with the regular engine (which is GPL+BSD) and an included mission that has libre media/gamedata. When I play TDM by myself, I want the unlimited-play and can accept commercial restrictions. But if I were to promote it somewhere, or charge for a stream when playing online, or make a video, I would want a version without commercial restrictions (and can temporarily accept limited-play) to make sure I don't violate anyone's copyright. Perhaps. That's what I'm trying to find out.
