I suppose making a campaign as an individual and building for Thief Gold go hand & hand. You need to be pretty obsessed to do either. XD

I'm just very happy to see how much work still goes on with the original Thief games. Good mods = long life after release!

What? The mysterious saviour is back to make our Thief lives happier again after such a long absence? I can't believe it's true! Wow thanks so much!

  2. Saw the trailer for the Grand Tour. Had to replay the first few seconds because I swear I am hearing the TDM creaky door sound! http://tinyurl.com/j2gdqb4

That's definitely it. Good old door_open_creaky01...

  3. To make sprint speed a tiny bit faster if your weapon is sheathed, instead of sprint being the same speed even if your weapon is drawn. Its something we see in TES games, but just seems more natural anyway.
  4. Way back when everyone was arguing over what lock pick method to use, there was a mission that started in a quarry like place, and wandered through a cool cave, and ended at a mansion, inside the mansion was very sparse. Is that mission still around anywhere?
  5. I'm wondering if anyone ever checks new posts in the Fan Missions Forums? I've posted 4 questions asking for help for 4 different missions that I can't finish because I"m stuck, and I don't get any help. I posted a question this morning so I don't expect an answer right away for that one. Its frustrating because I would like to finish them. I've read through the posts for each mission and I'm not getting anything from them. If there's someone who could help me I'd really appreciate it. Thanks I guess I'm spoiled from the TTLG forums.
  6. Is it just me or does the TDM Forums favicon look whack?

  7. Moddb Article: http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-dark-mod/news/community-unusual-gameplay-contest Based on the polls, I am proposing a 3 month "Unusual Gameplay Contest" starting on December 16th and running until the end of March. The standard voting convention is show in the topic poll. The Unusual Gameplay theme will be as follows: Non-standard Objectives (assassination, destruction, etc) ( Sprinheel's "A Score to Settle" matches this criteria.) or Non-standard play styles (Fieldmedic's mission "Reap as you Sow" is a good example, using a different method to trigger AI alert states, etc.) or Non-standard (strange?) maps such as "The Sword"... (Stumpy's "Illusionist Tower" might count here. Tels' Swift Mazes framework would also work well.) Please post your intention to join the contest in this thread. Late comers are welcome as long as their mission will be complete by the end of the contest. If anyone has a partly complete or nearly complete mission, please post the details in this thread and the participants will decide whether this is a fair entry as long as it's declared. This can also be used by voters to determine adherence to the intended rules and let folks balance their expectations accordingly (if needed). Unfortunately, the last poll on this wasn't clear enough but we can surely work this out in a civil manner in this thread.
  8. Hi all, me again Now that I've learned how to take screenies on DM (thanks to Aluminumhaste) I wanted to post one that I took but I got an error saying that the image ext that I used was not allowed in these forums, It was .jpg so I changed it to .png and I got the same error again. They're on Photobucket.
  9. Playing Wizardry 6 for the first time ever, with map drawing and all. It`s quite a different experience, but I like it.

Wizardry VI is awesome! And yeah, mapping is part of the fun... I still have my spiral notebook with the maps I made.

  10. Hi there, After much consternation and picking apart other people's maps, here are the beginnings of my first FM! I've been messing around with this editor for ages and I finally got down to business and drew some plans, plotted out a story etc and scratched a rough map together. The level is very small, but the idea is to focus on a small area and give it tons of detail and secrets in a very small space. In the top-left you will find the main house, outside the workshop area, bottom right will be a small grove of trees with a children's treehouse in it, overhanging a spring and associated pool feeding a river flowing to the top right that also is used by the workshop when forging. Bottom left will be a natural rock formation with a small cave and the level's start. The fence is just a temporary boundary measure, and idea left behind from the level's draft stages. In reality, the house will be set on the edge of a large lake (which extends out to the north, past farmlands). The general storyline is that the inventor of the fire arrow lives out here with his family. Shortly after the invention was complete, some tragedy befell the inventor's daughter and now he is stricken with grief. His son trains night and day to avenge the daughter's disappearance and the father has abandoned all hope of working again. The PC discovers riches in the house (owing to the invention of the fire arrow) but soon uncovers the truth behind the events and must decide whether to add to the family's troubles or to help alleviate them, all without them knowing, of course. Most of my time in DR has been spend getting used to the specifics of the tool. Much of the geometry that exists is un-optimised and rough, but hopefully can be refined to work in the final version. The last editing session was spent tweaking the scale of objects, and importing masses of models to get an idea of how big the house should be for its purpose. That's the reason that all those models are lying around the place. I have also been experimenting with water and using patches to intersect water brushes, to simulate a gradually descending shoreline under water which will be necessary for the stream, lake and pond. I have also been trying to simulate rocks using brushes but my methods so far have been reliant on the clipper tool and have left me with many thousands of tiny brush shards - not good for sanity or performance, and it will be better to learn to import models from an external application. Some strange things are evident: patches have gaps in them for some reason, brushes are see-through (but only certain ones) and there are generally some odd graphics glitches. Not too sure what to attribute that to. But I have uploaded screenies and the map file so if you want to have a look, go right ahead and enjoy my amateurish fumblings! And if you have any ideas please let me know! Thanks! Since I cannot attach files: https://imgur.com/a/DTN4p - images http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/573584/gh.zip - map file

  12. Hey, Few days back I found a wiki that had heaps of info on planning for game play in DR. Now I can't find it again, so was wondering if anyone knows the link? It was a wiki link. I've been searching for couple hours and can't find it. Thanks Ven
  13. Reputation to uphold is very well constructed mission, both gameplay and aesthetic-wise (+ no lags on my low-end machine)!

  15. He's never played any of the Thief games, but has watched me play TDM a few times. But he was able to get through the training mission without any real issue, did everything. I'm impressed and sad at the same time. I'm impressed that he did so well on his first sojourn, but I'm sad to realize just how bad a lot of other people are at this game, especially since they've played the first 3 games. He really likes the lockpicking, combat went okay, he did have issues with timing his attacks to get through the AI's defense. He didn't like that in the Arena, the AI keep charging head long into you when they attack and will push you, making parrying impossible. (I thought this was fixed btw). He had no issues staying hidden for the most part, but every now and then would make a bonehead move into the light.

  17. Just curious. I first heard about it on TTLG, when the idea was first proposed by Fingernail back in 2004.
  18. I've been wondering how, exactly, The Dark Mod implements sound gameplay-wise, but my searches haven't yet yielded a good technical answer. As such, I'd like to ask a few questions about The Dark Mod's sound implementation (gameplay-wise): What happens when something which can make noise, like a sword striking a wall, does so gameplay-wise in terms of implementation? Do walls, their thickness, and/or their materials affect what guards and people hear? For example, if I drop an object onto a hard surface, will the guards in the adjacent room hear the ruckus if the wall is just right? Does room size and type affect how far and how clearly sounds can be heard? For example, if I kill a guard in a place where sound would, in real life, carry far, such as a cathedral, will his/her death cry be heard from father away, if only enough to alert guards? If someone knowledgeable with The Dark Mod could please respond to this, I'd greatly appreciate it.
  19. The "go to first unread post" function seems to malfunction on my side. Is it working for everyone else?

I am sure it was playing up for me recently on one of my mobile browsers too, but it's working ok now. I use Firefox on the PC, Chrome on the phone (because Firefox for android handles the forum desktop version badly)
