  1. For example, textures/darkmod/nature/grass/grass_edge/path/dirt/dirt_001_path defined in materials/tdm_nature_grass_edge.mtr. First problem, all of these 'path' textures display as the identical black and white alpha image in DR, so it's 100% guesswork as to what they might look like in game. Next, when I make a patch and apply the above shader it doesn't even display in game. There's no indication whatsoever that I placed a patch with shader in the location. At one point I copy/pasted a path from I think Bikerdude's Alberic (might be another FM) and it was actually a concatenation of two patches, a dirt_solid_nodraw texture on a patch cloned over a patch that'd been turned into a func_static (which seems to be necessary) with a shaderparm3 with value 0.9, and having a textures/darkmod/nature/grass/grass_edge/path/dirt/dirt_002_dark_path shader. Is there any wiki or whatever that explains what's happening here? eta: definitely shaderparm3 is essential to having the shader show at all. The wiki on shaderparm variables doesn't explain very well - why is it necessary on these paths and not on the decals I've applied, and transparent materials I've made? What should I keep in mind when giving it a value between 0 and 1? The dirt_001_path is totally wrong for the area. Rats. And with no easy previews, the rats triumphant. Maybe I should make my own shaders for this kind of stuff.

  3. So I found out a very cool piece of news today. My WIP is going to have a small voice acting cameo from an industry veteran. He has worked with Bethesda, Blizzard, Konami and he was even in Doom 3. But more on that later! ;)

  5. I decided to join the Dark Mod forums. Do you want any new voices for your project? I'm a voice actor over at the Silgrad Tower project for Skyrim, and I'd like to do some voice acting in other interesting projects, such as this one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qa42yx2-m_Y This video shows off my two types of voices. I'm hoping they could be used in the Dark Mod. Will you accept either of them?

      Yeah and you can focus on yourself and whatnot. Moving and settling in with your belongings is like a second job for at least 3-6 months until you dismantle everything.

      Money is worth what you consider it to be worth. I wouldn't overestimate it's usage. I prefer free time and relaxation over bling bling, but that is a subjective decision.

      I am exactly the same. I have already chosen the nearby job and I am so happy with that decision. My girlfriend and I will move in together into a new flat very close to work. So that's awesome. :)

  8. TDM has an entity "atdm:voice", which in conjunction with "atdm:trigger_voice" is incredibly handy for making player character voice-overs in missions. I noticed that the player voice that plays is not controlled by ambient and SFX volume sliders in the main menu/audio setup. If I put ambient and SFX volume sliders to 0%, no sounds are played in TDM. Only the player voice lines from "atdm:voice" entities are heard with 100% volume. Is this intentional? Surely some volume slider should affect how loud the player voice comes out? Someone with headphones might have their OS master volume at high level and in-game volume sliders at low volume to make pleasant audio experience. This would then suddenly be broken by extremely loud player voice. With this rationale, I propose that the SFX slider would also affect the player talk voice.

  10. My WIP FM is coming together nicely. I'll use "U1" as a nickname for it for the time being, as the name could still change. A good mission always has a conversation or two, and I'd like to ask if there are volunteers for voice acting. I've not yet written any dialogue, but if it looks like there are actors available, then it is worthwhile. I need: 1) female voice actor. Should be able to roughly imitate "atdm:ai_vocal_set_lady_02." (an aristocratic lady) Ability requirement: Casual dialogue, ability to express concern in voice would be a nice bonus. 2) male voice actor. Should be able to roughly imitate "atdm:ai_vocal_set_lord_guard_01." (A lord.) Ability requirement: Casual dialogue. Amount of lines per each character: 2-5. Chime in if you are interested in helping! Thanks!

  12. I'm wondering if anyone ever checks new posts in the Fan Missions Forums? I've posted 4 questions asking for help for 4 different missions that I can't finish because I"m stuck, and I don't get any help. I posted a question this morning so I don't expect an answer right away for that one. Its frustrating because I would like to finish them. I've read through the posts for each mission and I'm not getting anything from them. If there's someone who could help me I'd really appreciate it. Thanks I guess I'm spoiled from the TTLG forums.

Hi all, me again Now that I've learned how to take screenies on DM (thanks to Aluminumhaste) I wanted to post one that I took but I got an error saying that the image ext that I used was not allowed in these forums, It was .jpg so I changed it to .png and I got the same error again. They're on Photobucket.
  15. This morning I got a cold call from an agency, then emailed me the job spec and as I had a read through alarm bells starting going off. In a nutshell the client wanted skills they weren't willing to pay for or that I even had and the pay for the hours was atrocious bordering on illegal.       Keep in mind a full vocal set is around 200 lines...you'd have to find someone willing to put that much time in...and who can act.

      The closest thing that comes to my mind is Chippants from the Pugmanplays on YouTube. She did a voice set for No More Room in Hell.

  17. Finding out some good methods and ideas as I continue some work on the Castle Lab tonight! Pretty excited to think what the final version is gonna look like. Did I say your guys' soundscapes are also wonderful?

      @MonroseTroll. I actually have been working a lot with Unreal 4 and doing some side projects with it. Great toolset and it's what has defined my current, "model everything" workflow. I have a buddy who worked on Wolf(2009) who kinda gave me a rundown on the studio. I'm not a CoD fan but it would be a way to get my foot in the door basically.

       

      @VanishedOne. I feel this pain a lot, and I did for my whole time when I was trying to learn Hammer back in my Half-Life 2 mod...

      Indeed! Now we just need a bunch of engineers and an array of globally positioned super-efficient rocket engines to slow down the spin of the Earth. I'm sure the kickstarter crowd funding will be a great success when we tell the masses they will get more hours to their days.
