  1. 1. Comparing the flames in the video (original flames on the left; new flames center and right)

    • The new flames are better and should replace the old ones.

    • Both flames are good and should be kept. Let mappers choose which to use in their maps.

I brightened the new particles somewhat and I'm now leaning towards replacing the old ones. But the last poll was a bit of a mess so I couldn't really sort out people's opinions. This will be the last chance to offer your input (votes only please; I think we've heard all the arguments by now).

#1 position is original flames. #2 and #3 are two versions of the new set (large and small respectively).

They both (all3boths) have applications (ie Unt eg the old ones look more "chemical", but the new one{s} look much better as wood burning flames...).

If the mappers can use the different versions of them selectively in a single map then all versions should be kept and left to the mappers. Absolutely. I guess make the new one(s) the default... but certainly keep the old ones about for the more exotic flames.

Could you please make a more close-up video, its a bit hard to see? From the one you posted, I am too leaning to replace the old ones with the new ones, they look more natural, organic and realistic without falling into the uncanny valley.

As for keeping the old one, I think we might leave them for the blue/orange torch (as these are not realistic, anyway?)

Also nice to see the wobbly heat haze effect in there.

If there's no big performance hit and the physical height of the thing isn't going to break stuff (including the wobbly heat haze, it looks taller - I'm imagining wobbly heat hazes potentially poking through ceilings and floors), then go for it.

I tried to use less particles (each particle is two triangles).

Old effect doesn't have heat haze but it has those little glowing dots that slowly fly upwards and fade away (I don't know the name of this phenomenon).

It's only a model...

Hey @nbohr1morehow come the zombies in The Dark Mod don't have a "resurrection" mechanic to it, similar to how Thief has it?
They're quite a weak creature as of right now, it's merely a walking corpse that slashes you, making attacking them to kill them an actual strategy.
Would be better if they had some cool mechanism to it that truly makes them a danger, such as the resurrection idea itself.

Query: when was the last time a zombie in a video game was unnerving or scary to you? I'm chipping away at my anniversary submission and I've been trying to gather opinions on the subject. I'm perfectly capable of lighting them well, changing their sfx, and creating effective ambience, but I'm worried that zombies at their core are just too overdone to be an effective payoff to the tension I'm creating.

Has anyone had any luck with textures from Polyhaven? Their OpenEXR normal maps seem too washed out and give incorrect shading in the engine.

I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.
