All done (minus a few secrets) and it was 100% amazing. Couldn't get to sleep until i finished it cause i was so curious to see what will happen next. The

bad man

part spooked me a lot and i loved all the unexpected scenes.

To me this is on par with the great Thief 1/2 masterpieces and an experience i won't easily forget. Let me rephrase that: Never forget.

Words almost cannot describe how awesome this FM is. But I will just leave this here: This mission is incredibly well designed, has better atmosphere and storytelling than the Cradle in Thief 3 and it took me 2 hours and 20 minutes of ingame time to finish and every second of it was great.

I really liked some of the details that were put into this FM, like the shovel you find in the beginning of the second mission (it appears to be quite useless in the beginning, but is essential to finish the mission in the end).

Has anyone else hit this - I played the first mission of the two missions OK, then got:

I've tried the usual (from the FAQ):

Look into your DoomConfig.cfg inside your darkmod

folder and check that the following settings are like shown below:

seta image_usePrecompressedTextures "1"
seta image_useNormalCompression "2"
seta image_useAllFormats "1"
seta image_useCompression "1"
seta image_preload "1"

2) Edit your darkmod.cfg and use the following:

seta image_downSizeBump "1"seta image_downSizeBumpLimit "256"

3) If the above does not help you it is recommended you try

seta image_downSize "1" seta com_videoRam "512" (or however much video RAM you have).

#1 had no effect, I was already set to #2, I tried #3, no effect.

Question: Do I need to start the game over (instead of loading the Mission 1 Final Save) to get updated darkmod.cfg and/or updated DoomConfig.cfg?

Has anyone else had this problem and how did they resolve it?

Thanks in advance. Based on the first mission, great mission! :D

Try adding:

image_downSizeLimit "256"

and see if the mission loads. Then, if so, increase to "512" and check again.

This will restrict the size of regular textures rather than bumpmaps (normal maps).

Wow, what a great mission this is. I'm stuck on one of the mysteries though; the one in the North Wing.

I went into the Bad Man world first time, came back out, and now I can't get back in using either of the statues on that floor? I can't find anything in the attic and there's a note about putting a draft in James' drink but the pouch is not frobbable?

I'm obviously missing something here so could someone give me a hint, just a teeny one?

Cheers,

AJ

Check out the other rooms on the second floor. Carlotta was planning on going somewhere :-).

But you should walk having internal dignity. Be a wonderful person who can dance pleasantly to the rhythm of the universe.

Thanks, Moonbo, but still nothing, I'm afraid. I have a crown that I suppose I should put somewhere and there's a door on the landing next to the south wing that I can't pick nor open with any of my keys.

I think that hint is gonna need to be a bigger one, lol.

Hey AJ,

Next to the note about putting the draft in James's drink should be a key, this key will open the doors on the North Wing second floor. On your map they're titled "bedroom" and should be near the sitting room where you first encountered the Bad Man. Let me know if that does the trick :-).

Thanks, Moonbo, I've got the key you mentioned and have unlocked all the doors it can unlock, bar one. It's on an internal semi-circular marble-looking balcony and I suspect that it might be

one of those hidden treasure rooms

, so I'm not too fussed about getting in there for now - - I'll keep looking around for a while to see if I've missed anything else although I'm still not sure what to do with

the crown that is only available to me in the other world in the attic where the girl's ghost and the two busts are

Cheers,

AJ

PS - loving this mission, btw, great job.

Hey everyone, thanks for the kind words! You never know how a project is going to turn out, so I'm glad you guys are enjoying it.

@AJ, Sorry for not responding last night, were you able to find your way?

I can't get past the crypt section. I've found out why the creepy dude in red is haunting the place and I found a weird key. My objectives updated to speaking with my instructor. But when I go to him, nothing happens. He lights up but nothing in my inventory works on him.

What am I missing?

Plus, TDM crashed twice in the second test area, with the square room and three locked doors with bars on them. Just froze and I had to ctrl+alt+del to get out.

Otherwise, thus far, this mission is absolutely stunning. I've taken so many screenshots!

See if that priest has anything on his waist that you can take and read :-).

Whoop, misread. Just frobbing your instructor should work, no need to use anything from your inventory

I've tried three times now. The guy lights up. But he doesn't speak. Maybe my save is corrupt somehow.... I'll revert back to an earlier save, and see if that works. If not, I'll restart the mission. Will let you know how it turns out.

It was already set that way.

I've realized now that the nature of my problem has changed from the malloc failure from a general failure to write memory - that is, I start with a quicksave in the first mission, run to the end of the first mission, then start the second mission, and after loading the world and waiting, it fails to Windows XP with the error message 'The instruction at "0x13491215" referenced memory at "0x2278e370". The memory could not be "written". Click on OK to terminate the program.' and the gamma level at XP is set to whatever I had it set to in Dark Mod (which is pretty bright).

It fails that way with the image_downSIze set to "1" and "0", with varying instruction and memory addresses.

Hmm, in the first mission I found

a symbol pad on Saint Lazarius tomb

could some kind person suggest where I could look for a clue to the

combination

Loving this mission btw

My save was bad. Restarted the mission, and the guy speaks fine. Yay!

Esme's question is mine as well.

What is the combination to St. Lazarus's tomb?

I assume it's the last secret since I've found

4 out of 5 secrets. And I finished the mission already once, realizing I'd missed over a thousand worth of loot (found the two statuettes, though), so I assume from the Lazarus tomb, something comes up or goes down, or something.

Can't wait to see what it is.

Thanks, Moonbo, for an excellent mission. Looking forward to the second mission as soon as I've finished the first to my satisfaction :)

Check out the visitors log in the crypt for a clue, and think about where you started the map.

It looks as though Summer has got that far, but hasn't done anything with the statuettes.

Darn! I tried to give the statuettes back over the angry haunt's tomb but it didn't work. I didn't realize they could be used in another way.

Thanks, VanishedOne.

Explicit answer:

you need to drop the two statues directly inside the broken tomb.

I posted about it before, but I think the default tdm logo video looks outdated. For a (i.m.o.) better looking version, you can download the pk4 attached to this post and plonk it in your tdm root folder. Every mission that starts with the tdm logo then starts with the better looking one. Try for example mission COS1 Pearls and Swine.

I finished DOOM - The Dark Ages the other day. It is a decent shooter, but not as great as its predecessors, especially because of the soundtrack.
