1. Bookmark everything you have an interest in. The Algorithm can still be useful for finding related content, but it can't be relied upon. As for the adblocking, I have different setups that are all still effective at blocking ads, and I spent no effort tweaking these. I usually don't use a user account. Maybe YouTube hasn't rolled everything out yet, IDK. YouTube does have alternate sources of revenue, such as taking a 30% cut of superchats, and 50% cut on channel memberships. For the ads it does run, mobile users block ads less often than desktop users and are probably considered more valuable by advertisers from the information that can be extracted about viewership. I don't think YouTube is particularly unprofitable, and Google is probably willing to run it at cost just to have a cultural behemoth in its pocket. Theoretically, the costs of running a video platform can go down if storage, computing, networking, and codec advancements counteract growth. Google also has advantages over upstart competitors, such as the ability to design its own transcoding chips.
2. Can you elaborate? How is that "abuse"? It's just like on commercial TV. And, yes, websites/services like Youtube cost. A lot. Just imagine how much webspace they need for all those videos, or the costs for developing the site, making it secure, marketing etc. So, they have to either do paid subs or, for the most users, do ads. I really can't see the abuse. I already stopped using my adblocker (which is really just for blocking those penetrant website big ads which popup on some shitty website...) on Youtube, because I knew that they "take the gloves off" now. Again, I can understand them. That "everything has to be free" attitude on the net doesn't at all account for the work and expense which are happening on all websites.
3. Relax @Näkki, it's great to hear you enjoyed the game. My personal expectations were just a bit different when I read the Steam page, although the various trailers should have been a warning that stealth maybe wasn't the biggest priority of the devs. From the Steam page: "Weird west legends meet eldritch horror in BLOOD WEST, an immersive stealth FPS." Also "Blood West is a stealth FPS inspired by the genre classics such as the Thief series (whose fans will be happy to hear the voice of Stephen Russell, the actor voicing the master-thief Garrett, returning here as the protagonist), S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games, or - from the contemporary catalog - Hunt: Showdown. The gameplay rewards the careful approach: scouting the area, stalking your enemies, and striking from the shadows. Can you figure out a way to clear a fort full of ghouls and monsters without raising an alarm?" From my personal experience I think the game is predominantly Hunt: Showdown, a bit of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and a very small portion Thief. Stealth is very unforgiving and makes it almost impossible early game when there are various enemies around, but hey maybe I just suck at it. I don't see Deus Ex in it, unless the skill leveling is the Deus Ex part for you and then I have to disagree with you, as that seems like the trait system in Hunt: Showdown. Edit: What I also understood from the Steam forums is that the original VA was dropped close before the release of the full version and replaced by Russell with no real explanation from the devs why this was done.
4. TBH, I'm all for keeping stuff easy. This brings more complexion to an already complex system, which takes into account leaning, movement speed, crouched and standing position and stuff. I also think that most of the people here underestimate how hard this game is for beginners. It's even hard for me, and I played this game and similar games for almost 20 years now. TDM is a LOT harder than the Thief games, and, those were considered quite hard back in the days as well. I don't think the barrier of entry should be set even higher. I also frankly see no benefit in terms of gameplay or atmosphere. And, if I may also say this: The original Thiefs didn't have it. May sound lame, but, I think this game tries to capture the feel and gameplay of the originals. Including certain gameplay mechanics, which IMO shouldn't be touched.
5. Of course, it is one of the reasons for the decline of online forums, since the advent of mobile phones. Forums on a mobile are a pain in the ass, but on the other hand, for certain things there are no real alternatives to forums, social networks cannot be with their sequential threads, where it is almost impossible to retrieve answers to a question that is asked. has done days ago. For devs for internal communication, the only thing offered is a collaborative app, such as System D (not to be confused with systemd). FOSS, free and anonymous registration, access further members only by invitation, full encrypted and private. https://www.system-d.org
6. So, if I understand you, no Thief Gold FM does sound and text notifications of completed objectives? The missions in The Black Parade surely did. I'm completely confused now. I was sure that original Thief Gold had those objective complete notifications (at least the sound). Reading this thread suggests otherwise though: https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=132977
7. I think you're looking for the visScan() function. I've never used it myself, but from the documentation it's supposed to check whether the player is in an AI's field of view, taking into account obstructions and light level. From there you'd just need to trigger some checks for whether the player is doing something forbidden like picking a lock or being in an area he's not supposed to be.
8. Greetings everyone! I recently got into TDM and am already having a lot of fun playing through and ghosting missions. However, coming from Thief, I am mostly relying on the rules and my experience with that game, while there are clearly differences in how TDM works. Right now, there is talk in the ghosting discussion thread on TTLG to amend the ruleset and include clarifications pertaining to TDM. So I wanted to drop by and ask: is there an active TDM ghosting community already and have any rules for this playstyle been developed? I would also like to ask someone to take a look at the draft of this addendum to see whether everything looks correct: https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=148487&page=16&p=2473352&viewfull=1#post2473352 Thanks!
9. Mmm... that idea to reset my microsoft account password is appealing except for one thing: I block all Microsoft stuff from accessing the net. So I doubt the os will even know. (I did mention somewhere I was paranoid, right? hehe!)
10. I see. Well, since 2015, I guess I always used the online option then. In that case, the fallback when losing the PIN is the Microsoft login. I wasn't even aware that the offline option still works. There always have been reports that it doesn't work anymore, and Microsoft requires a Microsoft account.
11. A Problem Arises I've paused subtitling of the Lady02 vocal set, because of a problem with the voice clips described here: https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/21741-subtitles-possibilities-beyond-211/&do=findComment&comment=490151 While a way forward is being determined, I'll work on a different vocal set. Maybe manbeast, for which Kingsal just provided me the voice script.
12. Ehm, it's not so easy. It is true that part of the script referring to the UI is proprietary licensed, but fully auditable and even modifiable by the user, they even teach how to do it (of course at your own risk). There were internal debates about this topic and why they don't release this 5% of the code. The reasons are very clear when looking at the current browser market, 80% monopolized by Chrome and Edge, apart from endless forks of all kinds based on Chromium. Vivaldi is a small cooperative with a small market share, but with absolutely unique features, based on this protected little part of the script that everyone tries to imitate, early Chrome and Edge, albeit with poor results. If Vivaldi releases this code, the result would be the end of Vivaldi, a Chrome that monopolizes these functions and ends up completely dominating the market, with no one to shadow it. FOSS is a good thing, allowing to share and collaborate in the development of new software, which is the main task of this system, but in the case of Browsers, where there are already more than 100 forks of all kinds of Blink mainly, Whether it is a FOSS product or not becomes secondary, all of them can create and share development with the base that is 100% FOSS, mainly in the way of removing the influence of Google and MS from this base, Provide Google with the possibility of making these modifications their own will be the end for others, handing over the market to Google. The ethics of the company has nothing to do with this, it is expressed in the ethics it has with the user and this has nothing to do with whether it is FOSS or not. See the example with Firefox, it's 100% FOSS and its poor user ethic with things Vivaldi would never do. In the 7 Jears I used this Browser Ive seen the Devs even working and releasing patches in Sundays to fix small bugs. They work on base of most voted feature requests of the user, offering, apart from the browser a free mail account and a blog for private use, apart a Mastodon instance included in the account and full user support with the team members active in the community forum, even with Jon von Tetzchner itself as often as he can, if he isn't occupied with conferences from EEUU to Japan because of Security and privacy themes, promoting EU tech in Belgium in collaboration with europena Tech centers.
13. Oh hey, TaffingTaffer. You got your account working. Nice! As an alternative you could sort by release date on the official website. Not as elegant, but it should get the job done.
14. I have implemented your idea: The volume-to-alpha thing is a bit weird since it does not take volume of the sample into account (hopefully improved in the future). And perhaps someone would replace images (I'm not an artist, you know). But it works and looks nice
15. Black Parade is released ! https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=152429
16. Body awareness please. https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/20013-are-you-gonna-add-this/
17. So giving it none of those tags, but making the AI invisible, silent, non-solid, and on a team neutral to everyone would not work? Oh well, it was a horrible inelegant idea anyway.
18. I loved it. Awesome game. I faceplanted at the people who asked for quest markers in the Steam forums there... Herr, lass Hirn regnen. The game is so great, and so true to the original, because it doesn't hold your hand. When is the new breed of gamers gonna learn.
19. I can never get that desktop app because my Microsoft Store is screwed up. It keeps saying there is something wrong with my Microsoft account and I should log in to fix it, but I can log into my Microsoft account no problem. Anyway, I'm doubtful the app gives 4K anyway. (sour grapes, hehe ;))
20. Horror themed fan mission - exploration of seemingly deserted keep in the middle of swamps. Spiders, undead, darkness. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the story about the fate of my family. My uncle, Ralph Mac Roberts, is the baron of a keep nestled deep within the Rahenaen marshes. It was once an important outpost tasked with guarding one of the few Builder roads that cross the marsh, but after the Inventor`s Guild built a system of nearby dams that flooded the whole land, the road closed and there was no longer anything to watch over anymore. The keep itself needed reinforcement against the raising water level and the trade routes become almost impassable, not only for the carriages but for lone couriers as well. There hadn`t been any messages coming from the keep for over a year and my father was about to assemble a caravan so he could go on an expedition to the keep himself. However, in the middle of the night before he was set to leave, a carrier pigeon landed on his windowsill. My father received the letter and read the apologies from my uncle and his family, excusing their long absence. As a way to make reparations for their extended silence, my uncle invited me to the keep to stay there for a fortnight or so. My uncle had instructed me to leave my horse three leagues away from the keep by the nearest charcoal burning hut and hike the remainder of the road on foot, as the trek through the marsh is treacherous for horses. The weather will be awful this time of year, but my father insists that I should go anyways to ensure that our relatives are okay. These plains become dreadfully deserted - to the point where you more expect to meet the dead than the living. And by the way - I think I`m lost. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Download link: https://1drv.ms/u/s!Aj1DVS465udZgVkXteBbr6cUxdPH Thanks: to the TDM team for great tools, and all the contributors for their assets, to betatesters: Amadeus, Bienie, Boiler's_hiss, Dragofer, Filizitas, Judith, nbohr1more, s.urfer, again to Amadeus for proofreading and text tweaks, and to all the players for their time! 21. I was thinking if TDM could exchange data about mission's endscreens with player's account and merge all of them into one big player's score. I know it rises a lot of problems (like required internet connection and online database), but I found fulfilling general thresholds and goals very entertaining in many games, making me play them again and again even after I satisfied my initial curiosity. Of course the whole system would need a rebuild and it is not said that things will stay one way forever, but... --does endscreen shows all "rewarding" and measurable things about players performance in this new light? how different missions can be compared in unified way? --how players score could be measured?: (mission score) = (% of objectives) * (% of gold) * (stealth score) * (difficulty level) (overall score) = missionXscore + missionYscore + missionZscore +... --how it can deal with console commands like "notarget"? I could use a command and don't even remember about it, could the game recognise use of console and make a note in a savefile, and later refuse to use it in overall account score?
22. Thanks for the replies, gonna try those spoiler Tags again now for my short review (oh well it inserted one above my text now and I can't seem to delete it on mobile - this text editor is strange)
23. Just finished this mission and wow I gotta say in great honor to Grayman and of course the rest of the team picking it up, this was something I've never seen before in any other TDM mission, especially visually wise. I am so happy that grayson gave green light for other experienced mappers to finish his last mission. And what came out of this is really something special. I'll put my review in spoiler tags since I'm now referring to critical mission details. Edit - How do I put spoiler text here on mobile??
test

test
[spoiler[spoiler [sfah
24. Public release v1.7.6 (with Dark Mod support) is out. Improvements since the final beta 14 are: Fixed a few remaining bugs with zip/pk4 support. Game Versions window now properly displays TDM version. Import window no longer has a vestigial off-screen TDM field (because TDM doesn't need or support importing). Web search option is now disabled if an unknown/unsupported FM is selected. If an FM with an unknown or unsupported game type is selected, the messages in the tab area now no longer refer to Thief 3 ("Mod management is not supported for Thief: Deadly Shadows"). The full changelog can be viewed at the release link. The de facto official AngelLoader thread is here: https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=149706 Bug reports, feature requests etc. are usually posted there. I'll continue following this thread though. Thanks everyone and enjoy!
25. I know that you can view age-restricted videos with an incomplete YouTube account, i.e. use YouTube while logged into a Google (Gmail) account but do not take any of the steps that would force you to create a full YouTube account (you can like/dislike videos and subscribe to channels, but you cannot make comments). Fake birthday and other details attached to the Google account or whatever is fine. I've also made a Google/YouTube account for commenting that never required any personal information, and can be used while using a VPN. There are some scary prompts that prod you to add a phone number, but they can be skipped. I think the account needs to be automatically flagged as suspicious somehow before it will lock you out forever for not providing a phone number, and I have had good luck with that so far. Previously you could use sites like ListenOnRepeat to bypass YouTube age restrictions, but that stopped working a while ago.
