  1. Is there something wrong with the forums lately, or is it my browser? I've been having trouble formatting posts, and just now I couldn't format anything at all.

    I'm using Vivaldi.

Usually I have to: select text, click bold, nothing happens, select again, click bold, then it works.

Same for other stuff, like creating spoilers, bullet points, links. Nothing works the first time.

I have no problem. I use Firefox. @Zerg Rush also uses Vivaldi. Have you tried without extensions, or in another browser?

(btw. bold, italic and underline have shortcut keys: Ctrl B, Ctrl I and Ctrl U, you could try that)

  2. "The job in question was simple enough. All I had to do was break into some guy’s house and steal a ledger and then get out without being spotted. But that’s where my problems started, the house was owned by one Einrich Friedt. And unbeknownst to me at the time, was a usurer under the protection of the local thieves' guild. When word spread that it was me who pulled off the job, the guild leader who goes by the name of Lazarova gave the order to have my head on a spike. Naturally two leg breakers were dispatched, which meant I had to make myself scarce and lay low for a while. After things had died down a bit I got in contact with an old fence of mine. He informed me that Lazarova is a wealthy and successful figure in undermarket circles. But what was unusual is that Lazarova is a woman, which belies her brutal and ruthless reputation. it’s likely she got where she is through wealth, meaning its possible she is of noble blood. My fence did a check of the Bridgeport registers and there is no noble family going by the name of Lazarova. So using an alias means she is someone who at the very least doesn’t want to see her dirty laundry aired in public. The Thief’s guild hideout is rumoured to be located near the Old Mill somewhere in Langmillers Ward, Geoffrey's Wall separates the slums of Langmillers and Mirkway from the more wealthy parts of Becksgate. I will make my way there and see what I can uncover, but I will have to be careful. The City Watch don't venture much into the Tanners, and the Tagwell boy’s aren’t known for being as polite as the watch. Locating some information regarding Lazarova's whearabouts is my first task and with some luck I should find some incriminating evidence to use as leverage. Becksgate is like a rat’s nest, so there's bound to be a hidden stash or two to make tonight's endeavours worth my trouble.." "Try these image downsize changes to reduce the GPU impact - seta image_downSize "1" seta image_downSizeLimit "1024" seta image_downSizeBump "1" seta image_downSizeBumpLimit "256"
  3. Since Aluminum directed me here ( https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/9082-newbie-darkradiant-questions/page/437/#comment-475263 ) can we have unlimited renderer effects? Well, maybe not unlimited, by maybe 3-5? Thanks.

Since I wasn't the one mainly asking, I'll just cite you in the original thread instead.

There already is a kind of sorting, sort nearest, sort decal, sort <n>. For things like windows and such, sort nearest should probably have the desirable affect, though looking through multiple translucent shaders might kill performance.

    4. Nort

      Nort

Is having multiple render effects really killing performance that badly? I don't understand. You're saying that if I have two transparent objects side-by-side, then they'll just count as two render effects, but when combined, they somehow become something much more difficult to render?

Never-the-less, unless we're talking some kind of infinite portal problem, why not let the mapper choose how much he wants to kill performance? Just warn him against putting too many effects close together.

  4. Woo!! 2.10 Beta "Release Candidate" ( 210-07 ) is out:

Yeah and the wiki and moddb. It should have those links in the footer I think. Probably easy to add by an admin.

Edit: And a link to the bugtracker. I'm always searching for a post in the forum that links to that because I can't remember the url.

Reluctance to improve the forums is matched by reluctance to allow more people to work on it. Talk about trust and power.

  6. _________________________________________________________________________________________ A Campaign for The Dark Mod We are pleased to announce that we are working on The Crucible of Omens, a full-length campaign for The Dark Mod, the moody Doom 3-based stealth game by Broken Glass Studios. Playing as the thief and adventurer John Welland Hadley, you will embark on a quest to find a powerful artifact inherited from a shadowy past. You journey will take you throughout The Dark Mod universe, discovering new and exotic locations and meeting new and interesting factions and characters. The Crucible of Omens spans multiple large missions and is being worked on by many well-known TDM mappers and team members. Features include: A wealth of different environments from the smoke-darkened city of Bridgeport to the icy northlands, from opulent mansions to the cobwebbed depths of forgotten catacombs. Gameplay centred on stealth, the pursuit of in-game clues and open-ended exploration, utilising the technical possibilities of The Dark Mod to create a complex, interactive game world. New opponents and characters. What drives the pirates of Wrecker's Reach? Who are the mysterious Urielites? And what lurks in the mind of Lord Blackstone? AI conversations and player character comments. A unique story experienced through in-game actions, animated briefings and dynamic objectives. No official release date has been set; updates will continue as the campaign development progresses. Be sure to keep an eye out for future updates. How can I help with the project? We are currently looking for skilled individuals to help contribute to the project in the following areas: artist and animator (cutscenes and in-game animations) modeller (campaign-specific models) mapper (scripting, bugfixes, testing) voice actors (various) music composers Main mappers: Angua, Bikerdude, Dram, Fidcal, Greebo, Jdude, Melan _________________________________________________________________________________________
  7. Hi, I've recently (with 2.07) got back into playing TDM and have been enjoying it immensely. That said, I'm having a strange issue in the Crucible of Omens campaign mission that I don't remember ever encountering in any other FM: I'm having trouble picking objects up and manipulating them; it's fairly erratic, but it seems as if most of the time they get dropped immediately after being frobbed, which makes it impossible to reposition/manipulate them. This has gameplay implications as well, since it makes it impossible to snuff out candles. I've been searching all over the forum for any other mention of this issue, but found nothing, other than a fairly old thread where someone suggested using a modified "de-clunking" build. I meant to link it here, but curiously, I haven't been able to find the topic again. Looking forward to any suggestions. The mission is extremely well made otherwise and I would hate to have it spoiled by this bug. Cheers!
  8. Crucible of Omens: Forum news feed While the team are beavering away on the campaign we thought we would post a series of regular updates to show the community what we have been doing over the last 12 months, Enjoy! Arches that show the age and grandeur of the city: What we have here is a melting pot of Hungarian heritage, Gothic & Romanesque styles that result in a cohesive and believable steam-punk universe that the player can immerse themselves in, like a warm blanket on a cold winter's night. Plenty of vantage points, exits and entries - multiple ways to plan your route through the byways of Bridgeport: In this shot we spent quite a bit of time getting the perf to acceptable levels with out sacrificing artistic vision and intent. Its a mixture of imposing framework of the city, and dark nooks and crannies. Imposing city streets that twist and turn, hiding dark secrets & resourceful opponents: The city looks alive and believably organic in a pre-contemporary vision. This is tempered by the need for consistent performance so that even players with low end hardware will have a rewarding experience.
  9. Not so long ago I found what could make a pretty good profile picture and decided to try it out on these new forums. But I couldn't find a button anywhere that would let me change it. I asked on Discord and it seems Spooks also couldn't find anything anywhere. So I logged into an old alternative account and, lo and behold, that account has a button. This is on the first screen I get when I: 1) click on my account name in the top-right of the browser -> 2) click on 'profile'. Compared to my actual account: Are you also missing this button on your account? It'd be very much appreciated if that functionality could be restored to any of the affected accounts.
  10. Hi, I need to know what the code is to use Spoiler Tags. I am using my tablet and I don't have the options to use anything, like spoiler tags, quote tags, text changes etc. Thanks
  11. I don't know if this is the proper place to raise the topic of a potential bug (Feedback & Support instead ??). I've come across this before. Many times an item is next to impossible to pick up, but eventually (with contortions) it will highlight. In this case I could not pick the "purse" up off a desk. It is in the Balakin Manor ( blue wallpaper) and on the desk in the only room on the top floor. I remember an explanation for this and it was pretty involved (for a non-programmer), but can be fixed when notified. Nevertheless, is there something I can do to get this item now or do I have to wait for a fix to be applied and uploaded. This is an awesome mission btw.

Yes it was in a discussion where someone was saying how unhappy they are with the way game companies grant themselves permission to do whatever they like to your PC and personal info today. I pointed out that giving up games completely is an unnecessarily overkill solution when there are free games like TDM to play.

  13. Evening Melan and Myself are going start work on finishing up 'Mission 1 of CoO', so like I did with 'Mission 0: Behind Closed Doors' I am requesting some extra hands. Mission 1 is much much further along than BCD was when I asked for help with that, so with a few people working on it we should be able to make short work of it. So what we need help with is as follows - Ai conversation entity placement - I have already place and linked the first batch including recording place holder audio lines. there are a handfull of other location that need the same treatmentAi conversations - recording of final lines, it would be better if we could have the original actors who recorded the lines for the existing guards but appreciate this may not be possible.RITS - there are a few locations where we want to place RITS (Random interesting things, its where Ai will follow a non-regular patrol route)Scripted sequence - wont go into too much detail as it will spoil the plot.Readables - Melan is doing a bunch of these, but more can't hurt.Additional Cutscene - Obsttorte did you do the last one for us? or was it Goldwell..?And finally some Alpha testing.
  14. Evening Crucible of Omens: prologue is now ready for beta testing, I/we need players with average playing skills and medium to low end rigs. This is so I can testing both difficulty and perf at the same time. - http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/17594-crucible-campaignprologue-behind-closed-doors-beta-test/ kind regards biker.

  15. Hi guys, through the "cheats" topic I got the idea, that it would be quite useful, if there were tags for missions (the post was about removing the killing restriction in some missions to suit the prefered play style). I don't know how easy or difficult this is, but with them, it would be quite convenient to pick missions with playstyles, environment, etc one does want to use. This could also be expanded to other mission properties. I remember a discussion about climbable drains, handles on doors, that cannot be picked and other things the map author chooses for himself. That way these things would be clearer and as I said before, it is easier to choose missions with playstyles that suit oneself. What do think?
