1. OLD HABITS Hello everybody. I'm very happy to present my first FM for The Dark Mod. Bridgeport - city of fortune and wealth they said. It's been a while since I've arrived here, looking for some work to accomplish and the fortune and wealth to enjoy. Hadn't had much look until now. So I spent my nights in the local taverns, hoping that the next day will bring me a little bit more luck. Until one week ago. I was just sitting in my favorite tavern, drinking a bit, eyeing up the barmaid's assets, as I saw a familiar face. Jimmy, an old pale of mine was also stranded in this part of the world it seems, also having no luck like myself. We drank one or two and what he told me than, was really interresting. The last couple of weeks he was working for some Lord Aaron, he said. A really disgusting person, who sacked Jimmy for really petty reasons. More interesting was the fact that Jimmy often worked in the basement, and there he saw that the wall behind some crates didn't seem to be too solid anymore. And leaning forward he also heard ... water. It seems that the sewers are running right behind this old wall. It seems like fortune and wealth were knocking on my door. A plan grew in my head. So I asked him to draw me a map of Lord Aarons residence and to explain me how I could get to the right point in the sewers. I've spend the last week digging through the wall, and now I'm lurking in the darkness of my self-made tunnel, well hidden by some crates, waiting for my chance. I've also asked Jimmy for something that may be worth getting hold of - and he told me: a valueable, maybe ancient scepter, laying in his ceremonial hall, waiting for me. So there you are, you taffer. Now go to work. Build time: 3 months or so Betatesters: Radiant, simplen00b, Xarg, Bikerdude Language correction: simplen00b Additional mapping: Bikerdude A big thank you to The Dark Mod Team, the people answering my questions on the forum and to my betatesters. Enjoy! EDIT: You'll need TDM v2.0 to run this mission
2. If I remember correctly: It is a city mission where you are supposed to infiltrate a thieves/gang hideout and do something in the thief/gang boss luxurious apartment. In this mission you could go through/along area of water-way with little boats - you could move to either bank (it was not wide water). This is when you are making your way through the city toward the hideout. The hideout does first consist of exterior where guards are patrolling in the open. Maybe there is some water between them, and they are walking on ramps, alongside walls. The hideout interior begins in a cellar or a jail-alike area. Or I did at least first go there. Might be multiple approaches from the hideout exterior. It was a nicely designed mission. Not short. Maybe medium or between medium and large.
3. Woo!! 2.10 Beta "Release Candidate" ( 210-07 ) is out:

https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/21198-beta-testing-210/

It wont be long now :) ...

4. I don't think there's a link to thedarkmod.com on forums.thedarkmod.com ...

1. datiswous

datiswous

Yeah and the wiki and moddb. It should have those links in the footer I think. Probably easy to add by an admin.

Edit: And a link to the bugtracker. I'm always searching for a post in the forum that links to that because I can't remember the url.

2. Petike the Taffer

Petike the Taffer

I drew attention to this several times in the last few years. No one payed it any attention, so I just gave up.

3. duzenko

Reluctance to improve the forums is matched by reluctance to allow more people to work on it. Talk about trust and power.

5. Just finished mission 1 30g short so wondering what I missed, and whether anyones made a loot list for each mission? Also, are there any missions that take part inside the old underground city? That one was my favourite in Thief. Cheers!
6. Thomas Porter is back in a TDM FM called... LQD is a medium sized FM, made for the TDM unusual contest 2013, where Thomas Porter sets out to get rid of the Lich Queen once and for all! Will he succeed, or will the evil Lich Queen get her sinister revenge on Thomas? The mission was created by me, Sotha. Betatesters: Bikerdude, nbohr1more and Obsttorte are thanked for their efforts on improving this work. Big thanks to TylerVocal for excellent voice acting. Thanks to freesound audio artists: Amliebsh (39222), Steveygos93 (80401), Jackie4ever (83095) and Klankbeeld (133100). Immense thanks for the developer team and everyone contributing to the mod. Release notes: *This mission has player character narration. There is no way to control the volume of the player lines in TDM 1.08 and they are at 100% volume at all times. For optimal experience, be sure to set SFX and ambient close to 100% volume in the in-game audio settings and fine tune the volume to nice levels from you operating system's mixer. That way the world sounds match the player voice in volume and your gameplay experience is not reduced by very loud player narrative. *This mission involves using objects with other objects. Normally objects are used like this: push R to drop the item into your hands, move the item where you want to place or use it. *This mission has a video briefing, so you have the habit of skipping the TDM logo which is visible before the briefing, do not skip it or you will miss the briefing. Download link: Use the ingame downloader to get it. As always, it is not recommended to read the thread further before you have completed the mission. Someone will fail to use spoiler tags.
This will be hidden
Enjoy! Please remember to give comments and vote! -Sotha.
7. The Transaction is a small/medium sized map in which aspiring thief Thomas Porter delivers the cryptic book, 'De Vermis Mysteriis' to a bookstore owner named Victor de Grenefeld. It is the fourth mission in the Thomas Porter series, continuing from where The Glenham Tower ended. The mission was created by me, Sotha and I wish to thank BrokenArts, Melan and Ocn for playtesting and Bikerdude, BrokenArts and Ocn for voiceacting. An enormous thanks goes also to the fine people who created TDM and are still working hard, bringing it ever closer to perfection. Thanks also to the community for helping with my mapping efforts. Extra thanks to freesound.org -contributors who make excellent quality sound effects available for free. Trailer (thanks to ocn!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBdEsKoqWl4 Briefing: Ah, the town of Glenham. I never really thought I would be happy to see its shabby wooden miner dwellings, but after the nightmares of the Glenham Tower I'm happy to see any kind of civilization. During my return trip from the tower the ghostly mist veil transformed into an intense thunderstorm and heavy rain. My clothes are soaked and I'm dreadfully tired of the harsh tribulations of the past few days. My task for tonight is simple. All I have to do is to get the strange and incomprehensible book I obtained from the tower, 'De Vermis Mysteriis,' to the bookstore owner Victor de Grenefeld. And more importantly collect the hefty sum the bookstore owner promised to pay me. With that kind of sum I can sit back and relax for a while. I'd better stay in good terms with my customer and not steal from him. I have the hunch that de Grenefeld is a well connected man so staying on his good side might be beneficial for me in the future: maybe they'll need a skilled adventurer like me and I could turn legitimate. I could earn my keep and I wouldn't need to constantly hide from the city watch. At any rate, I've got it all planned out for the remainder of the night. I'll visit the bookstore, drop the book to de Grenefeld and collect my fee. After that I'd better hide in the basement of an abandoned building I've spotted near the town north gate and get some well deserved rest. I don't think the city watch would think a cloaked and armed person like me would be on honorable business in a stormy weather like this so it would be wise to avoid all confrontation with the guards. I do not need any misunderstadings with the city watch right now. The undead horrors in the Tower forced me to expend most of my tools and I desperately need more equipment if I intend to continue my budding adventuring career. I should get some extra gold for new gear and maybe a few holy water potions just in case. There is a Builder church nearby where I might be able to find some. I suspect those fanatics might have gold hidden there as well.. It is time to move in the town and get the things done quickly. Somehow I have a bad feeling about all this. It's probably nothing, probably I am just jumpy because of the horrors in the Tower and sleep deprivation. Tomorrow I'll sleep long, relax and eat well. UPDATED LINK: Use the ingame downloader to get it. Bikerdude was added in the author, I forgot him. No other chages. Could The Powers That Be make sure that this version ends up in the ingame downloader? Thanks! Known bugs: One betatester experienced an error ("ERROR: Failed to spawn player as 'atdm:player_thief'"), which drops the player back to main menu upon map load. If you experience this scenario, please turn EAX off in the options menu. That cleared the problem for the tester. Warning! There is ALWAYS someone who fails to use spoiler tags appropriately. I recommend you read this thread further only after playing the mission! Avoid spoilers.
8. Hey there kids, so, I'm looking for a Fan Mission that I have played some time ago, I believe it was in 2018. The author, might have been one of our veteran members, like Goldwell or Sotha, but even if I might know the Author, I didn't seem to find it. The best detail I can give though is a spoiler, here: Could someone help me find this mission?
9. Fiasco at Fauchard Street is a small/medium-sized fan mission whose original purpose was to illustrate the virtues of speedbuilding and using simple, newbie-friendly construction techniques to create architecture that nevertheless looks nice and offers a good playing experience. The process and the experiences are detailed in the Editor's Guild thread; over time, the mission grew by about 30% from the initial concept, but also came to include some new content/ideas. I would like to thank my betatesters, whose work has been invaluable in the mission's completion: Bikerdude, Premier and Sotha. Briefing: "Today, my contact Marchand has brought me news of a lucrative opportunity. Turns out there is a man living on Fauchard Street named Lendermann. His business is credit, but long gone are the days when he was just one of the usurers plying their trade in the poor districts of the City. Lendermann has risen in the world, and fancies himself a creditor for merchants, even nobility. His house, once a ramshackle place close to a factory, has been refurbished with precious materials and furniture to prove once and for all he has made it. And his latest acquisition, a pouchful of opals, is too valuable not to attract attention sooner or later. Indeed, it is time to pay him a visit. Lendermann knows this as well, and he has reputedly hired new guards to watch his place day and night. A frontal approach will be complicated, maybe even impossible. But every house has multiple ways in - and where the front door does not yield to a talented thief, another surely will. I will have to be careful, since I have very little equipment, and have even misplaced my rope arrows in the commotion of the tavern. But this will have to be a quick job, since who knows how long it takes for the news to spread through the underworld, and how soon someone else seizes my opportunity - or stalks me to deprive me of my winnings on the way home... Marchand, reliable as he is, has a crucial flaw: for the life of him, he cannot keep his mouth shut. Better let him brag of a successful heist than a missed opportunity." Download Links: MEGA (14 MB) ...and the mission downloader! Notes: There is a player map in your inventory. Use it for navigation if you have trouble finding your way. There are a lot of places to find loot; some easier than others. Your objectives can also be reached in multiple ways.If you are interested in the lessons from the building process but don't have time to read the whole Editor's Guild thread, I summarised my experiences in this post. This also contains several prefabs (premade pieces of architecture) I used in construction that may also be useful for your purposes. There is no poll to rate the mission because it is not a contest FM, and I do not believe in polls. Your comments are welcome in writing, however! You will need your TDM install updated to at least 1.05 to play this mission.Series information: All of my missions except Unbidden Guest (TMA) take place in a common setting and involve the same protagonist, although under different aliases - Talbot, Messer Johannes, Philby and others. None of them require previous knowledge of previous FMs, but there are common elements and a degree of continuity. The missions, in current order, are: Prowler of the Dark (TDP/Gold) (S): liberate a skull of paganic enchantment from an abandoned church, which is kept sealed and guarded by the Builders.Return to the City (The Dark Mod) (M): plunder the other side of the Builder complex to steal a pack of explosives. Patrols have been heightened because of the recent break-in. (This mission connects to the previous along the North/South axis - too bad I didn't have the time to let you revisit some old areas)Fiasco at Fauchard Street (The Dark Mod) (M): steal a collection of opals from the house of a wealthy usurer. (You are here!)Bad Debts (TMA) (XL): fallen on hard times, you take a job from a diminutive snitch to steal his letter of debt from Markus, a pawnshop owner/usurer (looks like a common theme). Rooftop extravaganza.Disorientation (TMA) (XL): following the events in the previous mission, you attract the unwanted attentions of Lady Azamlarg, district warden and judge, and have to break into her palace to deter her from further assassination attempts. More rooftops and conspiracies.1.1 note: This mission has been released in an updated version. This update contains smaller gameplay and aesthetic fixes, and cuts down on file size by removing duplicate assets which have been incorporated into the TDM core since the mission's release (14 instead of 62 MB!). Thanks are due to my betatesters for this new version, Bikerdude, lowenz, nbohr1more and Oldjim.
10. I just downloaded the latest beta version of the Dark Mod right now and by starting this specific FM: Iris, I get this black screen with the music and ambient sounds in the background, but no picture showing. I was only able to get to the mission briefing page showing the objectives of the mission and then by clicking on "Objectives" It takes me to a black screen. What is causing this issue? My other fan missions work just fine, I tested out other ones, so it's not my game. Could be this is a broken fan mission?
11. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Beneath the sands of Al Farum lie the desolated compounds of the Clockmaker's disciples. Before they made time itself become uniform, hours and centuries were pouring into the different lands like summer rains - unequally. Some lands, unimaginably ancient, were worn down by wind and sun, while others remained forever young like gardens of The First Serpent, filled with the creations of yet unskilled gods. Travelling helped to not only develop the sense of space, but also the - now forgotten - sense of time currents. That's where the disciples came from - travelers of time's labyrinth, always aware of its imperfections and splits, skilled in recognizing threats that grazes from the outside of time itself. To prevent floods and droughts of time, the disciples went back as far as they could to the source of time and studied it - they were referring to it as the Great Clock, the Clockmaker, the Time Sun - whatever it is, it tends to lose its impact on random locations, causing the land to fracture and tremble. The disciples managed to develop machines, the Great Clock's pendulums, that adjust its work and makes the world appear as we tend to think it always is. But the travelers are long gone now. It is unknown if they failed to foresee a terrible fate that awaited them in their struggle, or if they mastered their art to the point where they decided to abandon this torn apart world, making a great leap to a better one. All that remains are partially operational machines maintaining unseen matter with growing effort. Sadly, it seems that the only ones who can make use of its bizarre manifestations are the wealthy tourists who find joy in the spectacle of balancing life and death, movement and stillness. Simple minds toying with the scales that used to dose the essence of time, they mindlessly throw sand into the clockwork world's gears. The split is imminent and the momentum unstoppable, yet there is no one to foresee it." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Simple idea of spawning different creatures on enclosed arena - they fight with each other or with you. Default teams are townsfolk and monsters (both undead and spiders). Thieves are on player's side. Pagans, moors and mages on elementals side. download link: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AoIlw2GQnPGZdyRRqJspMgGsi38
12. Evenin, Taffers! My FM for the Grand Christmas FM Contest, Business as Usual... updated 16-01-10 (fixed all of the minor errors people were having) "Got a new place in the old quarter, but as the saying goes 'the more things change the more they stay the same..." "...Tiss the holiday season and the first snows are upon us, bah bloody humbug. As usual there is a local thief who needs taking down a peg or two and some noble boasting about his wealth down the local tavern. Thankfully this part of town is free from the likes of the Builders, but my 'old friends' the Guardians are as usual keeping an eye on things..." Download links: filefront Build Time: 5 weeks, starting December 13th. Thanks:- Huge respect to the Dark Mod team for such a great mod and for all the hard work they put into it and continue to put into it. Special thanks to Fidcal, Serpentine and others for their help on the forums and to my beta testers: Serpentine, 7upMan, StiFuNelson, FFox, Acolyte, Chiron and others who did an awesome job. Known issues:- # This mission will have less than optimal fps at a few points on the map. # Enabling bloom on low end PCs will drop off 5-10fps # On low end PCs I recommend, V-sync is off, AA is off, Aniso is 4x or lower. # Additionally, on low end PCs you may have to disable player shadow - bring up the cmd line in tdm (ctrl-alt-`) and then type the following line ' g_showPlayerShadow 0 '
13. "In remembrance of him" version 2.0 You are a nameless hero, who was asked for help by someone you feel deep compassion for. Your plan is to avoid the streets and head towards your goal through the nearby buildings and inner alleys. Unfortunately for you, the area is not a peaceful one this night in particular. This is not meant to be a classic Thief-like mission, though I believe all the major elements are there; its meant to be more of an adventure where the player has freedom to move inside the available space in different ways, can choose to confront or to sneak past challenges, to get involved with the characters around him and explore, or to avoid any detour and head directly for his objective; he will also be faced with obstacles to his progress that will have to be overcome using a mix of dexterity and logical thinking. This is not a mission for beginners, ironically - there will be very little equipment other than your weapons, and you will need reasonable knowledge of your character's physical skills and limits (jumping, mantling), as well as being able to easily interact with objects, in order to succeed. Some of the encounters with enemies might also be difficult. Not every person will be aggressive towards the player, however. It is possible to find peaceful folks gathering outside, minding their own business. Of course, everyone who catches you invading their homes will defend themselves, and they might unite to face you. Others will be hostile to the player on sight - approach anyone outside with care; don't trust dangerous men carrying heavy weaponry. You don't need to kill any innocents to fulfil your goal. 14. Intro: Back among these old walls again, it seems. The alleyways and courts beckon, the smells and flickering lights the same as ever. Have I been away so little that I remember them all? No matter. This time, my objective once more brings me to the Builders: one of their workshops has recently received a shipment of potent explosives... Although inert before it is treated with a volatile compound, there is bound to be a mechanician who will pay a good price for the lot. That settles my agenda for the night. I must be careful, since the Builders aren't known to be lenient with trespassers... and if they knew it was the same fellow who had already paid them a visit... but best not dwell on trivialities. I have found a way to the street where the storehouse is located, and hid myself next to the south gate. If I am unable to open it from inside when I am done, I may just have to find another way out. It is an hour before midnight. Time to go.." Build Time: 3 months. Thanks:- Huge respect to the Dark Mod team for such a great mod and for all the hard work they put into it and continue to put into it. Special thanks to Fidcal, Serpentine and others for their help on the forums. Melan for making the original map and puttin up with my constant tweaking, the beta testers: Serps, Grayman, nbohr1more, , NewHorizon, 7upMan and others who did an awesome job. Info # Please download TDM 1.04 before playing this FM, as a lot of 1.04 textures have been used! # On very low end PC's with a "Pentium"4 or "HD2400pro" that are even considered low for vanilla Doom3, I recommend that V-sync is off, AA is off, Aniso is 4x or lower and "Ambient rendering" & "interaction shader" are set to their lowest settings. Also playing any tdm mission I suggest you do a fresh reboot of windows, this will flush the ram which enables a few extra fps in tdm. Enjoy
15. Screenshots: Mission: Breaking out the Fence Version: 1.00 Released: 17/03/2014 Theme: City Author: kyyrma Testing and additional content: RJFerret, Airship Ballet, Goldwell Breaking out the Fence continues the story from my first FM In a Time of Need. The player once again takes the role of an anonymous Thief who is getting tangled with an organization called the League of Seafaring Merchants. This time you will be sneaking your way into an import shop down at the South Docks and getting your fence Terry out from a pinch you have indirectly got him into. Prior knowledge of the story is not strictly necessary, and the level works just as well as a one shot stand-alone mission. Note that the story briefing is quite long - if you don't appreciate walls of text in your game, all the relevant information is on the last page. However if you want to set the mood and enjoy a good tale of skullduggery then give it a read. The difficulty level is moderate to high, and compared to my last mission it is much larger. The average play time should be around 1 - 2 hours depending on how much you decide to explore the level. You will start the level with only a blackjack, compass, spyglass and a map. You have to find the rest of your equipment while on the job. If you can't find a pair of lockpicks, remember to keep your eyes peeled for keys! The only differences between difficulty settings are the objectives, with higher difficulties requiring either a no-kill or a full ghost playthrough. Injection needles have been made a loot item, so remember to pick them up if you are going for loot completition I've succumbed under peer pressure and decided to have a poll where you can rate the level, but I would really appreciate your comments as well! Please get back to me if you have any questions or critique regarding the mission. Help! I'm stuck! How do I find the key to the closed off area in the sewers? Download links: If the mission is not yet available from the in-game downloader, you can use the following link: Private mirror Installation: Drop breakingout.pk4 in you darkmod/fms/ folder Run TDM and select New Mission. Breaking out the Fence should now appear on the list of downloaded missions. Install and play. Known issues: AI pathfinding can be slightly erratic at times Outdoors can cause performance issues on low-end hardware Sleeping AI can glitch through the bed if KO'd or killed There remain some audio issues such as pop-in and incorrect sound propagation Thanks: My testers RJFerret and Airship Ballet for their invaluable input and help during the creation of the level Goldwell for providing his vocal talent for the characer Terry All the TDM devs for creating such a great game All the people who have answered my newbie questions at the Editor's Guild
16. The Tears of St. Lucia was our second "alpha demo", released in 2008. It has been updated and is now playable using TDM 1.00. If you have played the map before, you won't find anything new--entities have been updated (like candles) but the map and gameplay have not been altered. Those of you who didn't get a chance to play it before are in for a treat, however. http://www.mindplaces.com/darkmod/fmdetails.php?id=15
17. Hi fellow taffers, Way back, when I have a lot more time to play, I played a hundreds of hours of T1 and T2 fan missions. Being little bit nostalgic, I decided to install TDM and try some of its missions. However, having not enough time, I was wondering if anyone could suggest missions with a strong emphasis on story and preferably with a twist or two. If you ever played T2 fan missions, I am looking for something similar to Saturnine's 7th Crystal (which is 20 years old now - wow, it was looong time ago). I found many suggestions concerning best missions, but best does not necessarily means with a strong emphasis on story and twists. So I am asking which of those best missions meets my criteria. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
18. The newest fan mission titled "Down and out on Newford Road" doesn't want to install because I get an error message saying, "Cannot install this mission, as it requires The Dark Mod v.210. Well, there's a problem, version 210 doesn't even exist yet, so how can I update my game if that version hasn't been released yet?!?!? The current version is still version 2.09. I need help with this issue please, thank you!
19. A Special Delivery is a very small warehouse & factory Dark Mod FM. In this fun little mission you have to find a valuable diamond. Enjoy! DOWNLOAD HERE. (2MB)
20. My timing was off on this one. Work on beta-testing is much more needed elsewhere as there are several missions for the contest alone. So I apologize.
21. Story: "Sir Barrington, as he likes to be known, enjoys a prestigious reputation of having lavish yet intimate dinner parties. I've heard the tales about what goes on in the noble's dining room, but I believed none of them 'till now. Orbach, a local shop-keep who makes special deliveries to the people of 'high stature' heard Sir Henry Hughbellow raving about Sir Barrington's special 'Elixir', It cures your ails and gives you vigor... By the Hammer, it extends your very life! he exclaimed. Orbach begged Sir Henry for a small sample, and after one sip he was sure that the potion was nothing more than mineral water and spirit. He asked Sir Henry if other folks were as fond of the elixir as he was, and he found out that folks are paying handsomely for these small vials on a weekly basis. Some lords pay for exclusive treatments and bathe in the tonic. Lord Barrington even brings in an occult expert every month, where supposedly the power of the elixir is renewed by the full moon. Never one to pass up the opportunity for a good scam, Orbach has decided to take a cut of this 'elixir' business. He has made an elixir of his own, but needs to convince Sir Henry that it's really the same as the 'magical' tonic that Lord Barrington has been selling. And that's where I come in. Its rumered that Sir Barrington's prized possession is a painting of the revolutionary inventor 'Guillermo de Sohase' the day after he won the Battle of Billinsdune. If I can steal this painting, Orbach can use it to 'prove' that he also got the elixir from Sir Barrington. Once Sir Henry tells all his friends that Orbach's stolen elixir is healing his heart, soothing his pains, and igniting his libido, they'll be lining up at his shop. Its time to go." Build Time: Version 1.0 was speed build of sorts, to build upon Springheels video's with the new modules. Took roughly 20hrs to build but this ended up happening over the space of a few months.http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18808-bikerdudes-speedish-build-using-the-new-modules/?hl=%2Bspeed+%2BbuildThanks: Co-auther: Obstortte for all his custom entities, scripting and showing me a thing or two about perfing.Resource: Springheel - new modulesReadables: nbhor1moreTesters: Bienie, Judith, Abusimplea, Cambridge Spy, Gerberox, MayheM, Amadeus, Goldwell, nbhor1more.Download: - mega Info: Repeat after me, "Read and explore, Read and explore"Known issues: This mission has been heavily tweaked and worked on to provide a playable experience for even low end machines. For very low end PC's please make use of the in-game LOD slider, as not only are details reduced, but the ambient_world fog is removed at the lowest setting. The medium difficulty is partially broken, the mission wont end when the player gets to the exit location. As this is the only issue with that difficulty level, I will fix this when I next update it to include the intro.
22. You can get this FM on our downloads page: http://www.thedarkmo...ondetails/?id=1 I guess it's a rather easy missions for players used to Thief Fan Missions, but feel free to post here in case you're stuck. Angua and me, we are humbled that this small map made it out of the door, accompanying the TDM 1.00 release. edit: poll added November 11th, 2011
