  1. Is there something wrong with the forums lately, or is it my browser? I've been having trouble formatting posts, and just now I couldn't format anything at all.

    I'm using Vivaldi.

Usually I have to: select text, click bold, nothing happens, select again, click bold, then it works.

Same for other stuff, like creating spoilers, bullet points, links. Nothing works the first time.

I have no problem. I use Firefox. @Zerg Rush also uses Vivaldi. Have you tried without extensions, or in another browser?

(btw. bold, italic and underline have shortcut keys: Ctrl B, Ctrl I and Ctrl U, you could try that)

  2. I used to play TDM years ago on this same old laptop and it worked fine. Decided to reinstall it today and any mission I launch I get appcrash before it even starts (just after the loading bar fully loads it crashes). I was wondering if new updates made the game unplayable on old stuff like the HD 4000? cheers
  3. Since Aluminum directed me here ( https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/9082-newbie-darkradiant-questions/page/437/#comment-475263 ) can we have unlimited renderer effects? Well, maybe not unlimited, by maybe 3-5? Thanks.

Since I wasn't the one mainly asking, I'll just cite you in the original thread instead.

There already is a kind of sorting, sort nearest, sort decal, sort <n>. For things like windows and such, sort nearest should probably have the desirable affect, though looking through multiple translucent shaders might kill performance.

    4. Nort

      Nort

Is having multiple render effects really killing performance that badly? I don't understand. You're saying that if I have two transparent objects side-by-side, then they'll just count as two render effects, but when combined, they somehow become something much more difficult to render?

Never-the-less, unless we're talking some kind of infinite portal problem, why not let the mapper choose how much he wants to kill performance? Just warn him against putting too many effects close together.

  4. Woo!! 2.10 Beta "Release Candidate" ( 210-07 ) is out:

    https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/21198-beta-testing-210/

It wont be long now :) ...

  5. I don't think there's a link to thedarkmod.com on forums.thedarkmod.com ...

Yeah and the wiki and moddb. It should have those links in the footer I think. Probably easy to add by an admin.

Edit: And a link to the bugtracker. I'm always searching for a post in the forum that links to that because I can't remember the url.

I drew attention to this several times in the last few years. No one payed it any attention, so I just gave up.

Reluctance to improve the forums is matched by reluctance to allow more people to work on it. Talk about trust and power.

  6. Here is another announcement, arguably more important than what would happen to 32-bit executable. Starting from version 2.09, TDM will not run on Intel HD 3000 and below. The reason is that TDM 2.09 will require OpenGL 3.3 to run. OpenGL 3.3 is the final version of GL 3, and both NVIDIA and AMD have updated their drivers to support it on every hardware which supports GL 3 (e.g. GeForce 8600 from 2006 is OK). Despite Intel HD 3000 being only 9 years old, Intel has already discontinued it (last driver update in 2015, no Win10 support), and did not upgrade the driver to version 3.3. Going with GL 3.3 will greatly simplify rendering code, and will finish the effort of removing deprecated stuff. There is no plan for further increases in required OpenGL version. OpenGL 3.3 will be enough to play TDM for a long time. More recent OpenGL features will be used via extensions, only in case your hardware supports them. Speaking of TDM 2.08, we tried to do our best to support HD 3000, leaving some hacks around. Despite that, we bumped into problems with running the game on the GPU when we accidentally found it. In case you are trying to play TDM 2.08 on Intel HD 3000, please set cvar: r_uniformTransforms 0
  7. New laptop. So long, Intel. No more head bumping.

I can see a lot of powerpoint slides but nothing convincing

IMHO Intel is moving in the wrong direction. They have Iris 655 but you can only find it in Macbooks. They should have pushed it to major laptop producers so that there was a $600 laptop with it. Then, I want to be able to switch between TDP levels, at least when plugged in. And of course 128MB edram is NOT enough.

AMD is even worse with their IGPs ATM.

Speaking of which, I ran Darkmod on my new laptop with a GTX 1060, and it got 16 fps. Then I realized it was running Intel graphics by default and I had to go into the settings to have the GTX run it. Then the fps instantly shot up to 150. So watch out for that.

  8. WTF Intel? The cheapest laptop with Iris and 4 cpu cores is a MacBook Pro? For that price I can get TWO hp's with a similar Ryzen APU. Or even TWO asus's with quad code Intel and a dedicated nVidia. Stupidest pricing ever!

Question is... what has Intel to do with that?

Really thankful for Ryzen myself. Yes there were stability issues at first, but they're ironed out now. And now we have processors with integrated graphics that aren't useless. TDM runs great on a Ryzen 2400G.

Do not get Ryzen Mobile until next year when 7nm version comes out. It could very well blow this year's 12nm version out of the water.

  9. Not so long ago I found what could make a pretty good profile picture and decided to try it out on these new forums. But I couldn't find a button anywhere that would let me change it. I asked on Discord and it seems Spooks also couldn't find anything anywhere. So I logged into an old alternative account and, lo and behold, that account has a button. This is on the first screen I get when I: 1) click on my account name in the top-right of the browser -> 2) click on 'profile'. Compared to my actual account: Are you also missing this button on your account? It'd be very much appreciated if that functionality could be restored to any of the affected accounts.
  10. Moving the gamma and the brightness sliders does not do anything if I have set the Nvidia GPU in Nvidia X Server Settings, but they work with the Intel HD GPU. This is very annoying since I think the Intel HD GPU is a lot slower than the Nvidia one so I mostly use later, but if I want to play The Dark Mod (and I want to see the level (the default brightness and gamma is very dark)) I have to switch to the Intel HD GPU. What should I do to make the brightness and the gamma changeable with the Nvidia GPU. I am using Ubuntu 16.04, GeForce 820M/PCIe/SSE2(I guess).
  11. Hi, I need to know what the code is to use Spoiler Tags. I am using my tablet and I don't have the options to use anything, like spoiler tags, quote tags, text changes etc. Thanks

It seems like the Intel linux drivers have made a lot of progress in terms of speed lately. This is great! I've a feeling Valve is partly the reason for this.

Yes it was in a discussion where someone was saying how unhappy they are with the way game companies grant themselves permission to do whatever they like to your PC and personal info today. I pointed out that giving up games completely is an unnecessarily overkill solution when there are free games like TDM to play.

  15. Hi guys, through the "cheats" topic I got the idea, that it would be quite useful, if there were tags for missions (the post was about removing the killing restriction in some missions to suit the prefered play style). I don't know how easy or difficult this is, but with them, it would be quite convenient to pick missions with playstyles, environment, etc one does want to use. This could also be expanded to other mission properties. I remember a discussion about climbable drains, handles on doors, that cannot be picked and other things the map author chooses for himself. That way these things would be clearer and as I said before, it is easier to choose missions with playstyles that suit oneself. What do think?
