  1. Is there something wrong with the forums lately, or is it my browser? I've been having trouble formatting posts, and just now I couldn't format anything at all.

    I'm using Vivaldi.

Usually I have to: select text, click bold, nothing happens, select again, click bold, then it works.

Same for other stuff, like creating spoilers, bullet points, links. Nothing works the first time.

I have no problem. I use Firefox. @Zerg Rush also uses Vivaldi. Have you tried without extensions, or in another browser?

(btw. bold, italic and underline have shortcut keys: Ctrl B, Ctrl I and Ctrl U, you could try that)

  2. Ran TDM on a 5950x in pure software rendered OpenGL mode. lol Shows you just how powerful modern CPUs actually are. Also, anyone on the dev team or any mappers need a Ryzen 3700x? I've got a spare; and since you gave me a free game, might as well give you some free hardware.

MESA LLVMPipe 22.3? Remember to NOT add dxil.dll or explicit the llvmpipe path for gallium.

Otherwise it will use the D3D12 backend (so of course it runs well)

      batch file with:

      SET GALLIUM_DRIVER=llvmpipe

      .\TheDarkModx64.exe

      remember to disable the AF

  3. Since Aluminum directed me here ( https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/9082-newbie-darkradiant-questions/page/437/#comment-475263 ) can we have unlimited renderer effects? Well, maybe not unlimited, by maybe 3-5? Thanks.

Since I wasn't the one mainly asking, I'll just cite you in the original thread instead.

There already is a kind of sorting, sort nearest, sort decal, sort <n>. For things like windows and such, sort nearest should probably have the desirable affect, though looking through multiple translucent shaders might kill performance.

    4. Nort

Is having multiple render effects really killing performance that badly? I don't understand. You're saying that if I have two transparent objects side-by-side, then they'll just count as two render effects, but when combined, they somehow become something much more difficult to render?

Never-the-less, unless we're talking some kind of infinite portal problem, why not let the mapper choose how much he wants to kill performance? Just warn him against putting too many effects close together.

  4. Asus i5 zenbook with MX150. Opened my WIP in the laptop to check and compare framerates against my i5 desktop with geforce 1060. Since I'm using the dev build 16269-9407 on the desktop, used the same build on the laptop and got "Unable to initialize OpenGL" screen. Backtracked thru' the dev builds and found the last working version was dev16225-9284, which loads the game fine. Problem starts with dev16238-9330 and the two newer versions. No similar problem on the desktop. (and.... WIP framerates on the laptop will give some people heart attacks. Tho' I find it still playable - TDM isn't deathmatch - and it looks very good on that little machine.)
  5. Woo!! 2.10 Beta "Release Candidate" ( 210-07 ) is out:

It wont be long now :) ...

  6. I don't think there's a link to thedarkmod.com on forums.thedarkmod.com ...

Yeah and the wiki and moddb. It should have those links in the footer I think. Probably easy to add by an admin.

Edit: And a link to the bugtracker. I'm always searching for a post in the forum that links to that because I can't remember the url.

Reluctance to improve the forums is matched by reluctance to allow more people to work on it. Talk about trust and power.

  7. What is the minimum required OpenGL version to run The Dark Mod? Will it work with OpenGL 2.1? I have some nice vintage 7900GTX SLI system to build that I would love to run the game on. I don't expect any bells and whistles like soft shadows etc, just playing on minimum settings. And If it works now, will it work in the future? like some engine update that will require OpenGL 3.3 or 4. Please for info.
  8. Hi, using Debian 8 ("jessie") — current stable release — system setup to all defaults, and a GeForce GTX 660 card using NVIDIA Driver Version 340.96. Using kernel version 3.16.0-4-amd64 and the CPU is an Intel Core i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz. Here is the output: ----- R_InitOpenGL ----- Setup X display connection dlopen(libGL.so.1) dlopen(libGL.so.1) idRenderSystem::Shutdown() signal caught: Segmentation fault si_code 1 Was in fatal error shutdown: Unable to initialize OpenGL Trying to exit gracefully.. 9. Not so long ago I found what could make a pretty good profile picture and decided to try it out on these new forums. But I couldn't find a button anywhere that would let me change it. I asked on Discord and it seems Spooks also couldn't find anything anywhere. So I logged into an old alternative account and, lo and behold, that account has a button. This is on the first screen I get when I: 1) click on my account name in the top-right of the browser -> 2) click on 'profile'. Compared to my actual account: Are you also missing this button on your account? It'd be very much appreciated if that functionality could be restored to any of the affected accounts.

Introducing something new is well and good, but yanking out support for a cross-platform standard that is used by masses of programs is an assholish thing to do.

now if we could get GPU vendors to update their drivers for old hardware to be OpenGL 4.5 compliant with CPU fallback, etc. As is mandated by the Gad-Damned-Specification!!! argh!!!!..

  10. Hi, I need to know what the code is to use Spoiler Tags. I am using my tablet and I don't have the options to use anything, like spoiler tags, quote tags, text changes etc. Thanks

Yes it was in a discussion where someone was saying how unhappy they are with the way game companies grant themselves permission to do whatever they like to your PC and personal info today. I pointed out that giving up games completely is an unnecessarily overkill solution when there are free games like TDM to play.

  12. I've owned amd cards and Nvidia cards throughout a few generations. On the amd side: Hd4670, Hd6950, Hd7970, R9 290. On the Nvidia side: Gtx 460, Gtx 780, Gtx 980 (current). The one sticking point that pushes me towards Nvidia is opengl performance. It's been a problem for as long as I can remember and I'm not sure Amd has actually done anything about it beyond a few placating words to gamers. The most recent game I had trouble with was Trine Enchanted Edition, which I believe runs on Opengl much like the dark mod. Going from the R9 290 to the Gtx 980 was a night and day difference, far more than the average difference in fps in Directx games. It basically went from an unplayable 30 fps at lowest settings on the R9 to nearly 60fps on high settings on the Gtx980. All the while the improvement in other games was marginal at best. I haven't played the Dark mod in awhile (Thief fm backlog), so I'm curious to hear the experience of other users with Amd cards. I think the last time I played tdm was with the Hd7970, and I had to turn down a few settings (mainly AA) to get a smooth 40+ fps, I seem to remember maxing it out on the Gtx 460 back in the day. Let's get a discussion going here and if I'm not crazy/other people are having similar issues, maybe we can sticky it this time to let Amd know it isn't appreciated.

  13. Hi guys, through the "cheats" topic I got the idea, that it would be quite useful, if there were tags for missions (the post was about removing the killing restriction in some missions to suit the prefered play style). I don't know how easy or difficult this is, but with them, it would be quite convenient to pick missions with playstyles, environment, etc one does want to use. This could also be expanded to other mission properties. I remember a discussion about climbable drains, handles on doors, that cannot be picked and other things the map author chooses for himself. That way these things would be clearer and as I said before, it is easier to choose missions with playstyles that suit oneself. What do think?

  16. [update] [update] The Darkmod Issue is still being worked on. While the issue has been reproduced and identified, the solution is pretty complex and is taking longer than initially estimated. I’ve not been given a firm date for the fix but it should be in Q1 2015. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- As some of you may be aware I have trying to get to the bottom of the OpenGL perf issue that AMD/ATI card owners have with our mod (based on IDtech4), as in the game becomes slow and laggy with fps drops. The aformentioned perf drops would happen where either the Draw Call count hits 1500 (Doom3 vanilla max) or there are too many particles or overlapping lights in a scene etc. see thread - - http://forums.thedar...n-atiamd-cards/ The more people that report this issue, the quicker we will be able to have a fix made available to us. Im in contact with AMD atm and once I have said driver update, I will post a copy of the driver for people to test and give feed back here. So what would be helpfull is for anyone that has a HD5000 series or higher card to: Load up the training mission> go the archery range> and then while standing in front of the table near the entrance look down the range.
