  1. Is there something wrong with the forums lately, or is it my browser? I've been having trouble formatting posts, and just now I couldn't format anything at all.

    I'm using Vivaldi.

Usually I have to: select text, click bold, nothing happens, select again, click bold, then it works.

Same for other stuff, like creating spoilers, bullet points, links. Nothing works the first time.

I have no problem. I use Firefox. @Zerg Rush also uses Vivaldi. Have you tried without extensions, or in another browser?

(btw. bold, italic and underline have shortcut keys: Ctrl B, Ctrl I and Ctrl U, you could try that)

  2. Are there any configuration options or addons available to view your stealth score or breakdown in-game? Or perhaps better, a custom difficulty setting to fail the mission when seen or searched for. I try to ghost missions, but it can be difficult at times to actually know whether you have been spotted until the end of the mission. Loot stats and other "final" stats would be helpful as well, though I have found "bind "F2" "tdm_show_loot"" to be useful for the purpose of ensuring all loot has been gotten.
  3. Any thoughts about this? It's really not a score, but a penalty. It would be much nicer (and less confusing for new players) to see at the end: Stealth penalty: 0 Maybe "penalty" is not exactly the right word though, but it seems that something like that would fit much better with what that number actually means. Thoughts?
  4. At long last, I am finally releasing my first mission, A Score to Settle. It's been a long road! I started this mission three years ago, when I didn't even know you could move the verts of a brush, and knew nothing about visportals or patches. I'm sure I've made every noob mistake in the book. I have learned a huge amount from this map, and have developed a great deal of respect for anyone who goes through the entire process of building and releasing a mission. A Score to Settle is a small to medium sized mission, where you set out to find and humiliate the leader of a rival gang. It is meant to be a challenge to players who are familiar with TDM, and is probably not a good mission for those still getting accustomed to TDM's mechanics (it's also not appropriate for children). ASTS uses 1.06 features, which means that AI are capable of relighting lights. The chance of this happening goes up depending on the difficulty level you choose. Difficulty levels also affect the number and quality of AI, the number and type of lights, and AI acuity (AI have slightly better than normal hearing on Hardcore). The difference between Casual and Hardcore is considerable. The mission includes several video and audio files, so it is hefty at 135MB. edit: Please follow the objectives carefully. If you don't do the "first" objective first, you'll spoil some of the story for yourself. Hope you enjoy it!
  5. I'm fairly new to TDM and am curious as to what factors determine a player's stealth score? I tend to be a knock out player and assume the number of KOs I do certainly factor into it. What are some other things that will affect it?
  6. Since Aluminum directed me here ( https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/9082-newbie-darkradiant-questions/page/437/#comment-475263 ) can we have unlimited renderer effects? Well, maybe not unlimited, by maybe 3-5? Thanks.

Since I wasn't the one mainly asking, I'll just cite you in the original thread instead.

There already is a kind of sorting, sort nearest, sort decal, sort <n>. For things like windows and such, sort nearest should probably have the desirable affect, though looking through multiple translucent shaders might kill performance.

Is having multiple render effects really killing performance that badly? I don't understand. You're saying that if I have two transparent objects side-by-side, then they'll just count as two render effects, but when combined, they somehow become something much more difficult to render?

Never-the-less, unless we're talking some kind of infinite portal problem, why not let the mapper choose how much he wants to kill performance? Just warn him against putting too many effects close together.

  7. Woo!! 2.10 Beta "Release Candidate" ( 210-07 ) is out:

    https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/21198-beta-testing-210/

It wont be long now :) ...

  8. I don't think there's a link to thedarkmod.com on forums.thedarkmod.com ...

Yeah and the wiki and moddb. It should have those links in the footer I think. Probably easy to add by an admin.

Edit: And a link to the bugtracker. I'm always searching for a post in the forum that links to that because I can't remember the url.

I drew attention to this several times in the last few years. No one payed it any attention, so I just gave up.

Reluctance to improve the forums is matched by reluctance to allow more people to work on it. Talk about trust and power.

  9. I was thinking if TDM could exchange data about mission's endscreens with player's account and merge all of them into one big player's score. I know it rises a lot of problems (like required internet connection and online database), but I found fulfilling general thresholds and goals very entertaining in many games, making me play them again and again even after I satisfied my initial curiosity. Of course the whole system would need a rebuild and it is not said that things will stay one way forever, but... --does endscreen shows all "rewarding" and measurable things about players performance in this new light? how different missions can be compared in unified way? --how players score could be measured?: (mission score) = (% of objectives) * (% of gold) * (stealth score) * (difficulty level) (overall score) = missionXscore + missionYscore + missionZscore +... --how it can deal with console commands like "notarget"? I could use a command and don't even remember about it, could the game recognise use of console and make a note in a savefile, and later refuse to use it in overall account score?
  10. I really want this in Dark Mod now, even if I know it won't happen. https://consequenceofsound.net/2018/12/composer-of-the-year-john-carpenter/
  11. Not so long ago I found what could make a pretty good profile picture and decided to try it out on these new forums. But I couldn't find a button anywhere that would let me change it. I asked on Discord and it seems Spooks also couldn't find anything anywhere. So I logged into an old alternative account and, lo and behold, that account has a button. This is on the first screen I get when I: 1) click on my account name in the top-right of the browser -> 2) click on 'profile'. Compared to my actual account: Are you also missing this button on your account? It'd be very much appreciated if that functionality could be restored to any of the affected accounts.
  12. Hi, I need to know what the code is to use Spoiler Tags. I am using my tablet and I don't have the options to use anything, like spoiler tags, quote tags, text changes etc. Thanks
  13. Still spreading the word about TDM on forums to new peops... Funny to see people say "Awesome, I loved playing Thief back in the day!"

Yes it was in a discussion where someone was saying how unhappy they are with the way game companies grant themselves permission to do whatever they like to your PC and personal info today. I pointed out that giving up games completely is an unnecessarily overkill solution when there are free games like TDM to play.

Honestly the mod/Indie genre is still really booming right now. And they aint got no reason to do shady invasive privacy bs.

  14. Its always funny when a product that is half the price gets a higher score on a benchmark test... Today, its some NiMH batteries.

The Eneloops are supposed to be 800mAh, but they only scored around 780. The far cheaper EBL batteries all scored over 800, something which none of the Eneloops reached!

  15. Hi guys, through the "cheats" topic I got the idea, that it would be quite useful, if there were tags for missions (the post was about removing the killing restriction in some missions to suit the prefered play style). I don't know how easy or difficult this is, but with them, it would be quite convenient to pick missions with playstyles, environment, etc one does want to use. This could also be expanded to other mission properties. I remember a discussion about climbable drains, handles on doors, that cannot be picked and other things the map author chooses for himself. That way these things would be clearer and as I said before, it is easier to choose missions with playstyles that suit oneself. What do think?
  16. Score! I found a i7 2670m laptop with 8gb and a Radeon 6730m at a thrift shop for $100... It features 2 500GB HDDs, one of which was dying. That was the one with the Windows install. So I of course substituted it with a 128 GB SSD. At first I thought the hinges were breaking, but it was just a loose screw.
