  1. I'm happy to announce the release of A Reputation to Uphold. This mission continues the story of the thief Corbin, as he deals with the consequences of his actions against Sykes in A Score to Settle (though it is not necessary to play that mission first). This mission was meant to be a speed-build, and relies heavily on prefabs, both existing ones and ones I created. Build time turned out to be about three months. I tried to do something a little different to increase the replay value of this mission. Instead of typical difficulty levels, there are three different gameplay styles, each of which present a unique challenge. I'd like to think it's worth playing all three, but don't start with "Timed" first, as it's the most difficult. Special thanks: grayman for help with many problems; Goldwell and Narrator for additional vocals; Sotha for his lean and urinate animations; Flanders, Skacky and Bikerdude for map elements; Bikerdude, Airship Ballet, Xarg, Araneidae, and Goldwell for beta-testing, and to Melan and everyone else who contributed prefabs to TDM. Note: the Break-in difficulty introduces a slightly different style of gameplay; your lightgem is always 4 levels higher than normal, which means nearby ai can see you even in total darkness. You'll need to use cover and distance to remain undetected. Download here: http://www.mindplaces.com/follow.pk4 edit: please make sure you have Version 2 installed. This version fixes a mod issue that caused the mission to end too early if AI were alerted early in the mission.
  2. In the original Thief, there was reference to Nyalahotep, an obvious reference to Nyarlathotep, and the Kurshok, who are similar to Deep Ones. Since Cthulhu, Nyarlathotep, and the Deep Ones are the most overused Lovecraftian beings in media, what other entities would you like to see in a potential Dark Mod mission based on Lovecraftian horror? Personally, I'd like to see a mission where you have to journey into the ruins of an ancient monastery and steal a relic from the lair of Y'golonac.
  3. Wie Jarig is, trakteert ! (for the few taffers that don't understand Dutch too well) "He who has the birthday gives the treats" The story (being a sequel) starts where you ended with the Librarian. In the Librarian, you were on a quest to find the Spear of Destiny which is believed to give immense power to the one in possession of it. At the end of the mission, you arrived at the place where The Spear had been hidden for millennia, guarded by the spirits of Water, Fire, Air and Earth. But the Spear was not there. It had been taken by the Mechanists! The Mechanists were disbanded after the fall of their evil leader, Karras, but clearly they regained their powers, led by their new leader, Cavall. At this point the mission, The Librarian, ended and left you hanging ... "So, Garrett, once again, it is up to you to save the world! Follow the trail left by the Mechanists to their secret hide out and prevent them from activating the Spear." So that is your mission in The Spear. You start in an abandoned compound of an ancient Numerology sect. Here you must find a passage to the new hideout of the Mechanists. In their mega-fortress you will have to find the Spear again ... and a way to destroy it ... maybe .... The Spear is packed full of intrigue and side-plots initiated by the evil Cavall. Expect the unexpected! And if you like to explore, your quest can lead you to some very strange, hidden locations. Proceed with caution, taffer ... 4. Something that occurred to me recently is that for both of my released missions, as well as the one that's work in progress, there are songs with exactly the same titles (and two of those are quite likeable). It's an interesting new perspective on the missions, that's for sure. https://youtu.be/KCGN48GqdZg https://youtu.be/TQVYV12TZic Does your mission also have a namesake song, and is it any good?
  5. It seems I have a fan. :)

  6. Between these Dark Walls by Skacky Story: Things could potentially get messy tonight. I was on my way back home when some tough boys ambushed me. They weren't looking for money or anything, they just wanted to kill me right there in the street. Fortunately, I managed to run away unscathed, but these guys are still looking for me. I've managed to piece together something from rumours and hearsays; turns out Messer Beric, an usurer I've done jobs for in the past sold me out to Raputo, one of the City Wardens, in order to prove that he'll be loyal and pay his tributes. Apparently Beric's business collapsed with DeWall's demise, and now he seeks the protection of Raputo. Not to mention Beric's business was run right under Raputo's nose, but he was protected by DeWall at that time. In exchange for his 'good work', Beric received a priceless necklace as a reward, and keeps it stashed in his crumbling castle in Newmarket. Now is time for some sweet revenge; I am going to steal Beric's necklace and humiliate him; that'll teach him never to double-cross me. I should also steal some valuables along the way, just to show Raputo how I deal with his reckless threats. Raputo doesn't like independents operating within his turf, so I'll make sure to plunder the neighbourhood. I got to be careful, though. With DeWall's downfall, The City became more dangerous than ever. Thugs and assassins are on the loose in the dark, and lawmen and Hammerites prowl the streets in search of heretics and criminals alike. Cragscleft has never been so full. Download links: - Mediafire - Thiefmissions - Southqaurter Notes: Please note that due to how TG behaves with New Dark, Darkloader incorrectly identifies this FM as a T2 mission. Follow these steps if you want to load the FM with Darkloader: Install the FM in your FM archive directory as usual. Launch Darkloader and select the FM, but don't launch the mission! Instead, close Darkloader once the FM is selected and shows the T2 gear icon. In your Darkloader directory, open the file named darkloader.ini Search for darkwalls, it should be at the very end of the file. Replace the line type=2 with type=1. Save and close the file. Launch Darkloader again and the FM should appear as a TG FM with the glorious Pagan eye! You're now ready to creep through the dark and gloomy cityscape of Newmarket! Misc: For obvious reasons, it is recommended you play this FM in dark conditions. This is a major part of the experience. Given that this FM has a strong focus on verticality, keep one or two rope arrows with you at all times. Three additional rope arrows can be found on all difficulty levels. Explore, explore, explore and see where the twisted rooftops of Newmarket take you. Make sure to read everything you come across, hints and plot elements may be written somewhere. Higher difficulty means less starting gear, less equipment to be found, a higher loot goal and more opponents. The main objective remains the same. It is possible to Ghost this mission and get all the loot while doing so. Comments: Yet again Skacky has captured the old skewl feel of thief we all know and love, Have fun
  7. Afternoon I have been having issues with this of late, recently I updated Dragofer mission to version 3.0 - I uploaded the updated file to river.pk4 (it was river3.pk4) I then changed the version number on the FM page from 2. to 3.The issue Dragofer is now having is he is seeing two version's of the FM in the in-game list.

  9. The Knighton Manor is a small/medium sized map in which aspiring thief Thomas Porter steals a valuable scepter from a city watch captain named Godfrey Knighton. It is the first mission in the Thomas Porter series. The mission was created by me, Sotha and I wish to thank Bikerdude, Ungoliant and Xarg for playtesting. An enormous thanks goes also to the fine people who created TDM and are still working hard, bringing it ever closer to perfection. Thanks also to the community for helping with my mappinge efforts. Briefing: Few weeks ago my fence heard a rumour about a particularily valuable scepter that was awarded for meritous service to a city watch captain named Godfrey Knighton. The captain's scepter is told to be of solid gold, with ornate jewels and diamonds, in other words valuable materials which we could break and sell separately without drawing too much attention to ourselves. Last few days I've been monitoring the good captain's luxurious manor, which is located just north of the City gates; an easy place to sneak in during the dark of night. The manor security seems lax: an archer by the main door, few guards patrolling the grounds and a couple of servants. It shouldn't be difficult for me to sneak in undetected, grab the scepter and other loose valuables and get out unnoticed. It is getting dark, I'll make my move as soon as darkness falls. This is going to be a rather simple night, with the exception of better than normal booty.. LINKs: Use the ingame downloader to get it. Enjoy! Now that this mission has been completed, I will take a long break from mapping. I hope the mission I've created will bring a lot of joy to the community and perhaps even inspire others to create new and better missions. Warning! There is ALWAYS someone who fails to use spoiler tags appropriately. I recommend you read this thread further only after playing the mission! Avoid spoilers.

  10. I put alberic, siegeshop, and rake_off into my fm folder... but for some reason a folder wasn't created for them when I start TDM it doesn't detect them in my mission list... when I exit the game and go to the fm folder, the pk4 files are still there and a folder wasn't automatically created for them for some reason.. am I missing something here? Why are they the only pk4 files that don't get detected by the game? if there is problem with these 3 fan missions then why didn't they come with a readme or something.

  13. The user Cambridge Spy recently inspired me to bring this up. http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/17163-fan-mission-a-house-of-locked-secrets-by-gelo-moonbo-fleisher-20150528/page-6?do=findComment&comment=373216 I often play TDM without any sound, either because I'd disturb other people in the room or because I use the same computer to playback something else (e.g. a talk on youtube, some podcast, etc) and TDM does not run flawlessly with ALSA/PulseAudio. Also, I'd love to see TDM and its missions to be more accessible to hearing impaired people. So if you design a mission, use doors with handles, and chests with levers for pickable stuff. I do not know, if Cambridge Spies suggestion about subtitles is easily implemented in a mission or future Versions of TDM, but they are essential if you can't hear dialogues for whatever reason, especially when they are important to the storyline or give you hints. Regarding lockpicking, maybe there is a way to implement visual feedback on HUD like the tension meter in "Not an ordinary guest" in future versions. This said, many thanks to all developers, mission designers and testers for this great game.
  14. Personally I think this is the worst idea ever. The Reason forums has LOADS of info and knowledge, built up through years and years. I'm really sad to see it go away, and I can't understand why they've made this decision. https://www.propellerheads.se/forum/showthread.php?p=1579099#poststop
  15. I think you guys should start showing "suggestions" on the missions memu. You can be like Microsoft and show games or apps the player might like. /s We're not allowed to call them "ads", so we call them "suggestions". https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=windows+10+suggestions+in+start

      demagogue

If we suggest anything, it should be to come to the forums. One of our advantages is we can be a lot more 2-way (through forum discussion) than the 1-way force-feeding of corporations to their audience.

Gameplay reminders and suggestions are a cool idea though, and update notices.

  16. Hey, playing Sotha's first Ulysses missions atm. While i really love the mission so far, it showed me once again a problem i already discovered in other missions, grayman's "In the north" mission to mention especially. and that is the in parts excessively long paths A.I.'s walk in some missions. While i can understand that some may think it adds to realism and unpredictability, it makes it damn hard to hide bodies for example. For example, in Sotha's mission, i blackjacked the guy working in the steamworks, and hid his body in a nearby room i lockpicked, in a niche which was lit by a candle on the wall, which i extinguished. I spent about 5 minutes in that room, searching for loot, or items to pick up. In these 5 minutes, noone entered, or left the room. Then i went out of the room, and got to an outdoor area in front of the manor. I spent about another minute and a half hiding in the dark behind a crate, to see what's going on outside, and even blackjacke a guard patrolling outside in that time, then all of a sudden, the door i came out of opens, and some housemaid comes out. So i went inside again to see where the hell she came from now, and realized she had even lit the candle again, and probably saw the body of the blackjacked steamworker too. Guys, isn't that a bit too much? I mean, as i wrote, i can understand the added realism and all that, but for playability, it has to be a bit predictable. Stealth games don't work without a bit of predictability. In reality, you won't stand a chance in most cases due to the way real people behave, how unpredictable they are, and coincidence. In a game, i have at least to rely a bit on things i can foresee, and i can't foresee a housemaid entering the place i hid a body after like 10 minutes, lighting the torch i extinguished to darken the niche i hid the body in. That's a tad too much really. It makes it almost impossible to know where you can hide a body so that noone stumbles over it. It has always been predictable in the original Thief games, it's predictable in games like Splinter Cell or Chromicles of Riddick too. So please, consider there's also people who blackjack everyone in sight, and need to hide the bodies somewhere. There's not only people who ghost missions. As i said, that's not to say i don't enjoy the missions, and this one in particular, it's really great, and it's awesome how creative some people here are. Just felt like mentioning this, because TDM really gives me a damn hard sometimes. I mentioned it in another thread already: The original Thief games were considered as very hard games by most of the game press. TDM is a lot more harder even. At least my personal view is that it could be a little bit easier sometimes.
  17. I have created a Wiki article to record Upcoming Fan Missions. The bulk of what is listed is from screen-shot evidence in the "What are you working on?" thread. If your work is represented, please either sign-up for a Wiki account to edit this list or post your corrections to this topic. Thanks, nbohr1more http://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=Upcoming_Fan_Missions
  18. Thought I might as well post up the results of my latest attempt to download a mission, "Crucible of Omens: Behind closed doors". I ran up tdm, went straight to the in-game downloader, selected CoO:Bcd for download, and left it running ... came back to find the game crashed. Here's the console transcript: I'm guessing all the messages from therats are from the previously loaded game, The Rats Triumphant (excellent mission, BTW). The download seems to have been aborted (I did see it at 70% at one point when I looked in to see how the download was getting on) because there's no sign of it in my fms directory. I'll delete the currentfm.txt file and try again... and it worked! Well, that's interesting. Maybe the moral is to unload the previous missing before trying to download missions? Dunno, mission download has been pretty flakey for me in the past.
  19. The First Solo Release of Merry's Magnificent Mapping Co., oh my! La Banque Bienveillante Screenshots Title: La Banque Bienveillante Theme: Bank Release: 2014/11/22 Mapper: Airship Ballet Special thanks: Nobiax for his models and textures, Melan for a few of his textures and both Kyyrma and Xarg for beta testing. Build Time: ~2 weeks The mission is the second I started and the second I finished, while the first is still being made. Similar to Exhumed, I built this mission in approximately two weeks, with the third week being spent entirely on testing and fixing things that got broken as I added more stuff. It's going to be part of a four-part campaign, with missions of exponentially increasing size, complexity and difficulty. Work on the second is already underway! This mission is the first of its kind to employ a system completely ripped off from inspired by PAYDAY 2. Instead of equipment, you can buy assets from the shop to help you out during the mission. Assets may be written hints, maps, equipment dead drops, keys, changes to the map, you name it. This mission is fairly small and simple, yet it's still full of things to buy in the shop, some of which are complete game-changers. Once the campaign begins to take shape, finding loot to take to the next mission will be essential if you want to tackle the security of more advanced banks. Think of the possibilities! Note - Noclipping around like a mook will skip triggers that change things based on what you bought. It will completely negate the system in some cases and often brick your playthrough. Don't do it unless you've no desire to be able to finish! - As the note you start with says, you can bag up the loose loot in the vault into bags, as well as moving the boxes underneath the open gold. Dropping these out of the window in the bedroom or at the alternate loot drop (if you buy it) will net you 1000 per crate or bag, which translates directly into 1 gold for the next mission's asset shop. - Knocking people out will cost you 500 gold, and killing them will dock you 1000. - Optional objectives will pay you gold immediately on completion. - It is impossible to acquire all of the loot in the map: there are variants of some that get swapped around depending on what you buy. Don't sweat it: there's tons anyway! - I thought to put a legend for the prefixes in the shop but it was a bit late and would have meant reorganising the whole damn shop, so this will have to do: (O) - Objective (M) - Map (H) - Hint (A) - Asset (K) - Key Cheats Come to the thread because you can't find something? Look no further you casual! Obviously don't expand spoilers if you don't want spoilers. Where is the code to open the vault? Where do I turn off the alarm? Where's the safe key? ...and the safe? Where's the manager's key? Where's the incriminating evidence? What about the withheld deposit? Where the Hell is this hidden compartment in the manager's office? How do I open the secret passage in the vault? I cut a random wire in the box in the vault and the alarm went off, what do? Look, you made a system I despise. The least you can do is tell me what to buy. Download links The Campaign Available on the in-game mission downloader as "Quinn Co." The Single Mission banque.pk4
