  1. You should check your brightness and gamma settings then. If you can't see the blackjack or other weapons, you definitely set it too dark. If you didn't know it already, the pre-installed Training Mission has a section where you can set brightness and gamma.
  2. I'm using the version from kcghost. I just tested and I can't see any difference inside the inventory. On the stats itself it doesn't show the different loot types (still seen in the inventory), but instead gives more info on stealth score. Edit: I see Dragofer made an updated version of his script. I have to check that out. Edit2: That version works: https://forums.thedarkmod.com/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=21272&key=02755164a3bed10498683771fe9a0453
  3. I looked but didn't see this video posted in these forums. It's pretty cool.
  4. It wasn't a "sacrifice", it was a deliberate decision. People wanted the game to be as close as possible to the original, including pixelated graphics. If you ask me, the former version based on the Unity engine looked and felt better. But, hey... I guess I'm not the right person to judge that, as I never played the original, and always found that the art style of System Shock 2 is much better anyway. This also illustrates the issue with community funded games: Too many cooks spoil the broth. In game design, you need freedom, not thousands of people who want you to do this and this and that. Just take a look at the Steam forums and see how all those wimps complain again about everything. Hopeless.
  5. So giving it none of those tags, but making the AI invisible, silent, non-solid, and on a team neutral to everyone would not work? Oh well, it was a horrible inelegant idea anyway.
  6. What I understood is that the idea of TDM was born from that it was unclear if T3 would get a level editor at the time. Source: https://web.archive.org/web/20050218173856/http://evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=268
  7. This one is really essential: https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=138607 Should work fine with the GOG version.
  8. https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=152224 There is a new mapping contest over on TTLG for the Thief: Deadly Shadows 20th Anniversary and the organizers were kind enough to include The Dark Mod along with all of the Thief games as an options for making a mission to submit as an entry. The deadline is a year from yesterday and the rules are pretty open. I recommend going to the original thread for the details but I will summarize here: Rules: - The mission(s) can be for Thief 1, Thief 2, Deadly Shadows or The Dark Mod. - Collaborations are allowed. - Contestants can use any custom resource they want, though TDM cannot use the Deadly Shadows resource pack. - Contestants can submit more than one mission. - Contestants can enter anonymously. - The mission(s) can be of any size. Using prefabs is allowed but the idea is this is a new mission and starting from an abandoned map or importing large areas from other maps is not allowed. Naturally this is on the honor system as we have no way of validating. Mission themes and contents: There is no requirement from a theme or story viewpoint, however contestants might consider that many players may expect or prefer missions to be celebratory of Thief: Deadly Shadows in this respect: castles, manors, museums, ruins inhabited by Pagans and the like, with a balance of magic versus technology. This is entirely up to the authors, though, to follow or not - it is just mentioned here as an FYI and, while individual voters may of course choose to vote higher or lower based on this on their own, it will not be a criteria used explicitly in voting or scoring. Deadline: May 25th, 2024 at 23:59 Pacific Time. See the TTLG thread for details on submissions and the voting process. Provided I can make the deadline I hope to participate. It would be nice to see the entire community do something together, and expressing our complicated relationship with this divisive game seems as good a pretext as any.
  9. In a fantasy world everything is possible. depends only on the imagination of the mission devs. Any kind of plagues, entities supernaturales, time travels, other dimensions, magia, impossible inventions and weapons can be seen in all the mission released until now. Even a Thief capable de jump and climb with a ton of loot, but not when carrying a person.
  10. Looking back, I like this game better out of the two. I mean I can see why some people wouldn't like it; that shadow ninja can quickly end your game in a second even if you have 200HP with his one special move, at least on the harder difficulties. But I like the weapons, environment, sound and music more in this game than that of Duke3d. This game was short, but then they gave us two (high quality!) extra free episodes, so that is more than forgiven. Also, Shadow Warrior as a franchise was not ran into the ground like it's peer, and frankly, so many other classic games have been. I'm impressed that they're still making Shadow Warrior games, because I don't think this original game was a big seller. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Shadow Warrior's peer outsold it by two or three times. Duke3d was so popular and successful that it got the "port this to everything" treatment, like Doom did. It's fascinating how Shadow Warrior, a more obscure game, managed to turn around and become more successful as a franchise later.
  11. @HMart You can find it here (under models/darkmod/weapons): https://github.com/thedarkmodcommunity/mod-handheld-lamp direct link: https://github.com/thedarkmodcommunity/mod-handheld-lamp/blob/main/models/darkmod/weapons/mod_playerlamp_model.lwo
  12. It seems we killed two birds with one stone (double model / lights on) by moving the attachment from the entity to the animation: anim idle models/md5/weapons/mod_playerlamp/idle.md5anim { frame 1 attach mod:attachment_playerlamp hand_r frame 1 sound_weapon blackjack_sheath frame 12 melee_hold } The lamp no longer auto-spawns but script/tdm_user_addons.script is still required to load script/mod_weapon_playerlamp.script. Console command to spawn the lantern: spawn mod:weapon_playerlamp In v0.2 I also updated def/tdm_player_thief.def to version 2.11 (thanks to @Dragofer). z_handheld_lamp_v0.2.pk4
  13. Would be a rather ugly hack. Perhaps I'll suggest this on the tracker, if the feature is considered useful enough to bother it shouldn't be hard. Surprised no one's thought of it yet: Most undead FM's seem to take place in an universe where zombies and skeletons are known to exist... but imagine a more "grounded" one where it's so rare it's still considered fairytales by the people, then skeletons appear on the streets and guards are so scared by the unusual they drop their weapons and run instead of doing their job and attacking.
  14. Can confirm. Any idea why this is? Is it because of this line? https://github.com/thedarkmodcommunity/mod-handheld-lamp/blob/f871527938df96a7efc308fc3ee85c70d8271544/def/mod_weapon_playelamp.def#L38 Other weapons (like the shortsword) have this attachment as well, but they don't show up attached to each other like that. We could just have a separate entity of that model to just for the plater to frob and kick off a frob_action_script to set everything up instead I guess?
  15. That's right. If a mapper decides to adopt tdm_player_thief.def then the next question is: how do you let players know where the lamp is / how to use it? The lamp can replace the blackjack, sword or any arrow type. Just let the player know which slot it is replacing. The lamp can remain in one of the unused slots but then players must know how to cycle through weapons or you must invite them to check the in-game inventory screen. The lamp can remain hidden in one of the unused slots and players could have an item (inventory tool) that operates the lamp. The lamp can remain in one of the unused slots and you can force-bind a dedicated key for players and ask them to use that key. This method is a little intrusive - use at your own risk. Now, if you want players to pick up the lamp then there's more work ahead. When I tested this feature with the lamp model another lamp was attached to my lamp (two models). Furthermore, the lamp was on by default. Perhaps we want to start there. And thinking of improvements, since the lamp is a weapon, it could be operated with the attack button: Click: open aperture (low intensity) Click: medium intensity Click: high intensity Click: close aperture
  16. Yeh that is also how Doom 3 weapons were done, but perhaps this can be worked around? Next to weaponDepthHack there's also a modelDepthhack bool I assume for every other model, perhaps that just needs to be put in the model def file or enabled by a spawn argument? I really don't know, or if that spawnarg even exists, if not then is something to put in the roadmap.
  17. Adding that def_weapon spawnarg is indeed the only change made for this lantern. In fact the file is outdated because it doesnt have the bobbing spawnargs that were added in a recent TDM version. It doesnt look like there's a way to replace this via script, currently. Player.cpp does various stuff with the def_weapon spawnargs in the spawn frame, including setting up a weapon index. There's also stuff that seems to be called after map start like idPlayer::UpdateWeapon which reads out def_weapon spawnargs, so any dynamic approach should include appending a def_weapon spawnarg for the lantern to the player entity. All in all, adding custom weapons is quite limited. Besides the requirement of the above core file overwrite, we only have 2 extra hotkey slots for custom weapons with no way to set them via the menu. In a previous dev discussion it was decided that we already have too many hotkeys so some alternative approach should be tried i.e. a weapon wheel like in Dishonored.
  18. Is the lamp a weapon? Unless TDM weapon system is different from Doom 3, weapon models should have the "depth hack" thing enabled, that "hack" (that is how idSoftware calls it ) makes sure the weapon never intersects with geometry. in the code: bool weaponDepthHack; // squash depth range so view weapons don't poke into walls Don't know if there's a way to enable that without messing with c++, stgatilov or others may know.
  19. EDIT - Please note this is Work In Progress and there are more versions available further down this thread ------------------------------------------------------- Hey, A post about a handheld lantern met my eye and sometime later @RedNoodles shared the source files. I don't know who created the lantern in the first place but as per the below post @Dragofer, @Amadeus and @Goldwell were involved. EDIT: @Obsttorte is to be credited BIG TIME, according to Amadeus: I have since been toying with the files and made further improvements: Term "Lantern" replaced with "Lamp" to distinguish it from the former. Comprehensive code clean-up. Removal of unnecessary files. Adjustments here and there. There still is room for more improvement: Better looking inventory icon Better sounds (it currently uses Blackjack sounds) Sounds improved thanks to @Goldwell The lamp clips through walls when up close (no idea how to fix this) The lamp still makes use of def/tdm_player_thief.def and script/tdm_user_addons.script and therefore it isn't compatible with all mission or other mods. I would like this lamp to be truly standalone and compatible with everything but I am not sure how to proceed from this point on. If you ask me, this neat lamp should be properly integrated in the game for mappers to make good use of it. You can find my version attached to this post. Place the *.pk4 in your TDM folder and access the lamp by scrolling through your weapons. Remember: the lamp isn't compatible with other mods. Cheers! z_handheld_lamp_v0.1.pk4
  20. The first time it happened was standing on the roof trusses of the cathedral trying to shoot broadheads downwards. The second time was on the cathedral groundfloor trying to shoot moss arrows, near the 1st row of seats. In both cases, just reloading and selecting the same weapon using keys did not fix it: I still got the crash when I tried to shoot. I had to quickly scroll-wheel through all weapons, then select bow again to get through. In any case, I think it's a bit random, certainly cannot reproduce it consistently.
  21. I had a series of bow-related crashes in the new mission The Lieutenant 2: High Expectations, on linux. In a specific part of the map, selecting any bow weapon and then pressing attack/fire caused an immediate crash --just as the animation starts. To avoid it I had to reload and shuffle a couple of times through weapons.
  22. I don't think it is bad idea if TDM would have been conceived that way. At the beginning of a mission you can change your gear if you want (and have the coin): Default shoes: your everyday footwear. Soft boots: a little muffled and you can move a little faster but a bit slippery and you are prone to more damage. Hard boots: more noisy and make you move a tad slower but the stability allows you to draw and use your weapons faster and health lasts longer. This system would have allowed for a wide range of unique and exclusive wearable items such as the (in)famous Jester hood, for the more demanding players.
  23. Thanks for playing and the kind feedback re: the bugs: the brew tank is a new one - thanks for that. Will add it to the list for any future update. the bow: I think that's a TDM bug. I experienced it as well, but only the early days of developing the mission so I thought it had gone away, but I guess not: https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/21345-210-crashes-may-be-bow-frontend-acceleration-related/ the keys on the guard: never did get to the bottom of that one as I could never reproduce it.
  24. Thanks! Hint for the safe code here: https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/21837-fan-mission-the-lieutenant-2-high-expectations-by-frost_salamander-20230424/&do=findComment&comment=485264 Actually, it's probably time I added these hints to the original post....
  25. I never realised Bill Gates was a member of these forums. Welcome to the community! I hope you enjoy The Dark Mod. Perhaps your Foundation could help pay for the server hosting or fund the development of some new features?
