MODDB MOTY 2012

Thanks Sotha. I think a sober assessment of this year's standings will tell you that any voting will be for 2nd place compared to Black Mesa mod. Still, being highly ranked in the final results brings more visibility so dont let that stop you from voting. We need to be in the Top 100 again this year. :)

Please visit TDM's IndieDB site and help promote the mod:

VOTED

[...]any voting will be for 2nd place compared to Black Mesa mod.

more like for 3rd place to DayZ. ARMA2 is currently in 2nd place for "top game" on the scoreboard. I don't bear any grudge against either of those 2 mods. I've recently taken a liking to watching DayZ videos, and it looks like a great deal of fun. thinking about purchasing the standalone, and I hate zombie games.

Tis the season. If you haven't seen it yet, or just need a refresher:

DayZ deserves kudos. Darkmod can still be #1 for me and I can accept DayZ getting higher marks because it nailed what it was going for. I love games that open & free form. But pure remakes even to the level of individual maps don't mean that much to me, so I won't be happy about being under Black Mesa.

But yeah, for us it's more about a chance to get some exposure than recognition or an award per se. We already know how awesome & special our game is B) and it's nice but not necessary whether the rest of the gaming world notices.

Edit: Voted of course.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

Will probably not matter, but voted for TDM anyway.

Black Mesa is really a splendig work - lots of work went into it and it duly deserves praise. However, I'm too a bit disappointed that they went for a 95% remake - they could have added more twists and be a bit different - probably not possible because they set their goal years ago and spent a lot more time than they anticipated and deviating from the plan would probably have killed it. So, still a great achievement, and still a bit disappointing from the player perspective.

Once Steam is on Linux, I'll probably play it, anyway. (And yeah, I still dislike Steam. But I'm so tired of Wine aways have one bug or another when playing games to the point where you tinker for hours and then still get graphic glitches...)

Hm think my picks this year will be TDM, MWLL and DayZ. Unless they no longer allow multi voting (can't see that happening, in which case, it'll be TDM or DayZ, probably solved with the flip of a coin.)

Haha, no I meant if they ever did remove multi-voting, I'd need a coin to decide because there's some really good mods around atm. As it stands, I'll be voting for all 3, they've given me some damn fine entertainment. Actually, I think I'll vote for Oblivion Lost (for Stalker SoC) too.

Cool - do you mind making an ModDB proposal thread for good mods you can show us? Would be really interesting :)

The mods I use? Well, I suppose I could, though I don't have a huge library of games, and haven't modded many of them, so the list would be rather short. I'm also not restricting myself to certain types of mods, so some mods I use are full/total conversion style, and others are additions or quality of life mods that add content or just fix bugs for products the developers are no longer supporting.

Lol, TDM is also competing with an original DOOM mod that has more visitors in the past 9 months than TDM has received since it was put on moddb. Well, maybe we'll get an editors choice again this year...

edit: Then again, maybe TDM is more popular than I thought. Looks like 1.08 has 15,000 downloads from StrategyInformer alone since 11/01

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
