  1. Is there something wrong with the forums lately, or is it my browser? I've been having trouble formatting posts, and just now I couldn't format anything at all.

    I'm using Vivaldi.

Usually I have to: select text, click bold, nothing happens, select again, click bold, then it works.

Same for other stuff, like creating spoilers, bullet points, links. Nothing works the first time.

I have no problem. I use Firefox. @Zerg Rush also uses Vivaldi. Have you tried without extensions, or in another browser?

(btw. bold, italic and underline have shortcut keys: Ctrl B, Ctrl I and Ctrl U, you could try that)

  2. Would it be possible to add a setting to adjust the gamma/brightness when a UI page (especially a readable) is on the screen? Some readables can be quite bright or blinding. Thief (NewDark) has a setting for this: ;; From Thief's cam_ext.cfg ; enabling this option allows the UI (menus, map/objectives, readables) screens to have its own gamma setting ; useful if you get blinded everytime you open the map or read a book gamma_ui 1.0 The main issue I see with implementing this is that readables within a mission can vary greatly in brightness. One mission that comes to mind is Iris. The newspapers are nearly white, so they can be very bright, but other readables in that mission can be fine. I've attached two screenshots to show the difference given the same gamma/brightness settings. Given that variation within a mission, I'm not sure if this feature could actually be implemented. Maybe there is a way to have a threshold for brightness. For example, if the threshold is set to 0.7 and a readable is at 0.5, don't reduce its brightness. However, if the readable is at 0.9, reduce its brightness to 0.7. I'm no graphics programmer, so I'm not sure if something like that can be done. I thought I'd request this feature anyway with the hope that someone with the right knowledge may provide more insight or a solution.
  3. Since Aluminum directed me here ( https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/9082-newbie-darkradiant-questions/page/437/#comment-475263 ) can we have unlimited renderer effects? Well, maybe not unlimited, by maybe 3-5? Thanks.

Since I wasn't the one mainly asking, I'll just cite you in the original thread instead.

There already is a kind of sorting, sort nearest, sort decal, sort <n>. For things like windows and such, sort nearest should probably have the desirable affect, though looking through multiple translucent shaders might kill performance.

Is having multiple render effects really killing performance that badly? I don't understand. You're saying that if I have two transparent objects side-by-side, then they'll just count as two render effects, but when combined, they somehow become something much more difficult to render?

Never-the-less, unless we're talking some kind of infinite portal problem, why not let the mapper choose how much he wants to kill performance? Just warn him against putting too many effects close together.

  4. Woo!! 2.10 Beta "Release Candidate" ( 210-07 ) is out:

It wont be long now :) ...

  5. I don't think there's a link to thedarkmod.com on forums.thedarkmod.com ...

Yeah and the wiki and moddb. It should have those links in the footer I think. Probably easy to add by an admin.

Edit: And a link to the bugtracker. I'm always searching for a post in the forum that links to that because I can't remember the url.

I drew attention to this several times in the last few years. No one payed it any attention, so I just gave up.

Reluctance to improve the forums is matched by reluctance to allow more people to work on it. Talk about trust and power.

  6. At some point today, for some unknown reason, the brightness of my SVN TDM menus has gone way up. I did not rebuild my SVN copy. My gamma and brightness settings inside the game haven't changed. 2.08 menus are fine. If I copy my Darkmod.cfg file from 2.08 to SVN, it doesn't solve the brightness problem. This suggests that menu brightness isn't controlled from the cfg file. Are there any other settings w/in TDM that control menu brightness? Thanks.
  7. I have an LG ultrawidescreen monitor. When I use the brightness or gamma sliders, there's no difference in the game. It's a bit too dark right now, which makes it frustrating. I've looked through the other people asking for help in fixing it but they don't seem to have worked. I've also changed it in the .ini file and that doesn't make a difference. Any idea what might be causing those to not do anything?
  8. Well the problem is that you cannot for some reason edit the gamma&brightness inside TDM and in the .ini file, tried it and no result, here is the terminal output(I restarted the game to show that it does not even register me moving the sliders nor applying any change just in case):
  9. OS: Debian Sid PC specs: e3 1230 v5 32 gb ddr4 ram sapphire rx 480 asrock e3v5 gaming/oc mobo 2 ssd drives As the title says, trying to change gamma or brigthness settings have no visual effects ingame when launching the linux binary. I've launched the windows binary with wine 1.9.x, where it seems to work but this seems to be a workaround for this isssue. I've removed the xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu driver from debian sid, because it was causing signal loss on the hdmi output for the rx 480. Without this package, my other games that were failing are launching fine
  10. I recently dowloaded the new version 2.7 of the dark mod . the game runs fine . But my screen is to dark. And the brigtness and gammasettings in the game does not work .. But it works fine in my older games like the thief series(ecxept returm to castle wolfenstein . that uses a mod) . I recently upgraded my nvdia geoforce . And I am microsift beta tester. I am using windows 10 19h build 18334(and I cannot revert back windows.old . these files are deleted ). I suspect that its my nvidia that overwrites the games setting .I have tried to reert back older version . But that dosent help either ... So I need help . In
  11. Not so long ago I found what could make a pretty good profile picture and decided to try it out on these new forums. But I couldn't find a button anywhere that would let me change it. I asked on Discord and it seems Spooks also couldn't find anything anywhere. So I logged into an old alternative account and, lo and behold, that account has a button. This is on the first screen I get when I: 1) click on my account name in the top-right of the browser -> 2) click on 'profile'. Compared to my actual account: Are you also missing this button on your account? It'd be very much appreciated if that functionality could be restored to any of the affected accounts.
  12. Moving the gamma and the brightness sliders does not do anything if I have set the Nvidia GPU in Nvidia X Server Settings, but they work with the Intel HD GPU. This is very annoying since I think the Intel HD GPU is a lot slower than the Nvidia one so I mostly use later, but if I want to play The Dark Mod (and I want to see the level (the default brightness and gamma is very dark)) I have to switch to the Intel HD GPU. What should I do to make the brightness and the gamma changeable with the Nvidia GPU. I am using Ubuntu 16.04, GeForce 820M/PCIe/SSE2(I guess).
  13. Hi, I need to know what the code is to use Spoiler Tags. I am using my tablet and I don't have the options to use anything, like spoiler tags, quote tags, text changes etc. Thanks
  14. Still spreading the word about TDM on forums to new peops... Funny to see people say "Awesome, I loved playing Thief back in the day!"

Yes it was in a discussion where someone was saying how unhappy they are with the way game companies grant themselves permission to do whatever they like to your PC and personal info today. I pointed out that giving up games completely is an unnecessarily overkill solution when there are free games like TDM to play.

  15. I've played my far bit of TDM missions with gamma on 1 and brightness on 1 and I finally noticed how easy it would actually be able to see the player sneaking around in the dark if there was another player walking around as a guardr. So I finally decided to give the gamma and brightness guide in the training mission a fair amount of effort to get the "best" settings for an immersive experience. After a couple minutes of re-reading the guide and fiddling around with the sliders I was never satisfied. When I was sitting in the corner to the right of the book I kept the darkest corners of the room and the torch in my FOV. When I got the dark corners dark enough to the point where I could barely make out the individual bricks (e.g. "realistic"/immersive), so that if I was a guard looking in that corner I wouldn't see shit if the player was sitting there if I'm just strolling by like most guards in the game, but the torch was incredibly dark or the colors were messed up. So I was thinking, what if there was 2 sliders, one that basically made the "darks" darker and the "lights" lighter individually. I think that contrast basically does what I just said, but if you want to have near black corners e.g. "realistic" to the point where if a real person was walking by that hallway they wouldn't see you, the flaming torch is now going to give off just as much light as a zippo. Anywho I don't even know if its possible to have a slider that just adjusts the dark areas of the game and another for the light. If anyone knows what I'm missing when trying to get the brightness right some help would be greatly appreciated.
  16. Shower thought: I notice that no matter how much you try to get your gamma to your liking, there will be that one mission that you find just does not agree with your settings. It's either the ambient world light is far off from what you are accustomed or the author's idea of lighting is just very different to yours. Instead of enforcing standards or arguing with authors, how about putting more power into the players hands by letting them set an offset per mission? I was going to say you could set the absolute values but an offset from your main settings may be nicer? P.S: Would be nice if the GUI sliders snapped so I did not end up with 1.11123234. P.S.S: How about all graphical settings customised? Now users with lower-spec hardware would not have to remember to set their LOD settings back up after an intensive mission.
  17. Reinstalled the game after resetting my PC and I forgot what I used in the in-game brightness settings, instead of sitting there trying to get the perfect lighting for the next 4 months I was wondering if you guys would be generous enough to share what you use. Thanks

  18. Hi guys, through the "cheats" topic I got the idea, that it would be quite useful, if there were tags for missions (the post was about removing the killing restriction in some missions to suit the prefered play style). I don't know how easy or difficult this is, but with them, it would be quite convenient to pick missions with playstyles, environment, etc one does want to use. This could also be expanded to other mission properties. I remember a discussion about climbable drains, handles on doors, that cannot be picked and other things the map author chooses for himself. That way these things would be clearer and as I said before, it is easier to choose missions with playstyles that suit oneself. What do think?
