1. As you may know, there are lots of covers, remixes, mixes of songs from games, out there on the internet. What are your favourite ones? == I created some video's for some of my mixes and creations. You can find them at my soundcloud. And now also at my youtube page. (At the moment im working on : mix of Fanmade Thief tracks and a mix of trance remixes of gamemusic.) Pinball fantasies - stones n bones (freyks medley) https://soundcloud.com/user-777685577/stones-n-bones-freyks-medley Freyk - Fifa 98 rtcw crystal method mix.
2. Does this mean the new lean will get you potentionally more exposed? Because it should be. I think with the current lean you peak your head around the corner, but with the new lean feature you just step aside. That's what it looks like. If the new lean system is easier to use, shouldn't there be a trade-off? I personally do like it when there's some realism in gameplay. If something feels wrong because it's unrealistic, then I notice it. I think that could be actually cool, but I think first breathing sounds need to be introduced, music disabled.. Maybe something to try out in a specific mission build.
3. I found the video for "Smells like" terribly embarrassing. The music was (apart from the fact that KC was neither a particularly good singer nor a particularly good guitarist, but that was probably not the point) something I partly liked. Quite worse I found the almost messiah-like worship by my generation. What went off in this regard at the concerts was just embarrassing. Could well imagine that Cobain also did not like that very much. Bart Simpson had once announced in an episode a title in a rock star fantasy, which was called "My fans are all pigs". Possibly there would have been no one better than KC to play such a song.

Nevermind

That wasn't Nirvana's fault anyway. Cobain fell apart and committed suicide probably because of becoming too mainstream. It helps to listen to their music in the indie spirit in which they made it.
5. datiswous

Nevermind

Ah ok, I missed that. I used to own that cd, but it became too mainstream for my taste, so I gave it away. I think I like their interviews more than their music.
6. Horror themed fan mission - exploration of seemingly deserted keep in the middle of swamps. Spiders, undead, darkness. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the story about the fate of my family. My uncle, Ralph Mac Roberts, is the baron of a keep nestled deep within the Rahenaen marshes. It was once an important outpost tasked with guarding one of the few Builder roads that cross the marsh, but after the Inventor`s Guild built a system of nearby dams that flooded the whole land, the road closed and there was no longer anything to watch over anymore. The keep itself needed reinforcement against the raising water level and the trade routes become almost impassable, not only for the carriages but for lone couriers as well. There hadn`t been any messages coming from the keep for over a year and my father was about to assemble a caravan so he could go on an expedition to the keep himself. However, in the middle of the night before he was set to leave, a carrier pigeon landed on his windowsill. My father received the letter and read the apologies from my uncle and his family, excusing their long absence. As a way to make reparations for their extended silence, my uncle invited me to the keep to stay there for a fortnight or so. My uncle had instructed me to leave my horse three leagues away from the keep by the nearest charcoal burning hut and hike the remainder of the road on foot, as the trek through the marsh is treacherous for horses. The weather will be awful this time of year, but my father insists that I should go anyways to ensure that our relatives are okay. These plains become dreadfully deserted - to the point where you more expect to meet the dead than the living. And by the way - I think I`m lost. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Download link: https://1drv.ms/u/s!Aj1DVS465udZgVkXteBbr6cUxdPH Thanks: to the TDM team for great tools, and all the contributors for their assets, to betatesters: Amadeus, Bienie, Boiler's_hiss, Dragofer, Filizitas, Judith, nbohr1more, s.urfer, again to Amadeus for proofreading and text tweaks, and to all the players for their time! 7. Yes, Hania Rani, i like her music a lot In some calm moments i like also electronic, mostly Klaus Schulze (RIP)
8. Yeah, the Hodgson house was playing some unexpectedly dynamic ambient music each time I entered it. It's pretty good actually, it was just not what I was expecting to hear for a random house. If I have time I can record a clip or search through the ambient music library in Darkmod's resources to work out which one it is, but I won't be able to do that tonight. Thanks for the hints (and the mission too, of course).
9. My view would be: If the author is still reachable, ask for permission unless they already gave blanket permission. If the author is not reachable, check whether they stated anywhere that they're opposed to their work being reused (i.e. in the FM credits). If not reachable and no statement was made, I'd say the work can be reused if you give abundant mention of the author in the credits in the release thread and in the FM package. The vast majority of authors (who don't explicitly say they forbid reuse) are probably fine with that. I'd distinguish between reuse of assets and map sections, however. The latter can easily be perceived as plagiarism, so it should always require close coordination with the original author if you want to use parts of their map in your own.
10. This is offtopic, but you just reminded me of a great memory. I was always into underground music culture, mostly metal as a teenager, but later also electronic music. A few months after I moved to a different city for university I discovered a tiny underground (literally) private bar, basically a rave speakeasy. No license, entrance with a camera, located in what used to be a wine cellar and a later a PC gaming arcade (which left very strong air conditioning there, so the weed only smelled outside, not inside). Each weekday it was open from about 6-7 pm to about 4 am, and almost every time there were one or more DJs playing more or less underground electronic music, for free, just for fun. Sometimes doing live broadcasts over the internet, before that became a common thing. I still remember the first time I came there, walked down a narrow set of stairs and entered the dark main room with a couple tables with benches and about 10 different CRT monitors placed in random places (including under the benches), all playing Electric Sheep animations. At the time it felt like something from The Matrix. The place is still kind of operating many years later, but it got handed over to guys who care more about getting drunk everyday than about music or technology, so the magic is long gone.
11. I would definitely love to see something like this. It would be a great way to write a cliffhanger or lead-in to a subsequent FM, and I would have used this for A Good Neighbor were it an option at the time. Ideally, it should also allow for custom music to be played; different from the music played during the briefing And yeah, when it comes to GUIs, simplicity is always best. These suckers are complicated and I have spent way too much time lately diving into these.
12. Not so long ago I found what could make a pretty good profile picture and decided to try it out on these new forums. But I couldn't find a button anywhere that would let me change it. I asked on Discord and it seems Spooks also couldn't find anything anywhere. So I logged into an old alternative account and, lo and behold, that account has a button. This is on the first screen I get when I: 1) click on my account name in the top-right of the browser -> 2) click on 'profile'. Compared to my actual account: Are you also missing this button on your account? It'd be very much appreciated if that functionality could be restored to any of the affected accounts.
13. Public release v1.7.6 (with Dark Mod support) is out. Improvements since the final beta 14 are: Fixed a few remaining bugs with zip/pk4 support. Game Versions window now properly displays TDM version. Import window no longer has a vestigial off-screen TDM field (because TDM doesn't need or support importing). Web search option is now disabled if an unknown/unsupported FM is selected. If an FM with an unknown or unsupported game type is selected, the messages in the tab area now no longer refer to Thief 3 ("Mod management is not supported for Thief: Deadly Shadows"). The full changelog can be viewed at the release link. The de facto official AngelLoader thread is here: https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=149706 Bug reports, feature requests etc. are usually posted there. I'll continue following this thread though. Thanks everyone and enjoy!
14. TDM Modpack v1.8 released in the opening post Based on a work by Obsttorte, here is my take on the blackjack. CLASSIC BLACKJACK v1.0 Credits: Obsttorte, snatcher. Description: A straightforward approach to blackjacking with new rules and mechanics inspired by Thief Gold. Never miss a KO again. Instead of calculating a model collision the "Classic Blackjack" will evaluate the conditions and trigger a KO. Just get close to an AI and aim for the head. You will never hit door frames or anything or miss a KO again. Guaranteed! Classic Blackjack rules: Some AI are KO-immune and cannot be KOed: * Undead, creatures... * Guards wearing heavy helmets (to respect TDM vision) * Other: set by mission authors for the plot, in example The rest of AI can be KOed, just aim for the head: * Civilians: Can always be knocked out from any direction * Combatants: Can always be knocked out (including when fleeing) from any direction except when in high alert state (normally in combat mode) ------------------------------------------------------------ In addition, the download now includes an new extra mod: FOOTSTEPS WATER v3.0 Credits: SeriousToni. Description: Alternative footsteps on water sounds. Topic: New Footstep sounds These two mods can be enabled / disabled separately. Here is the full changelog: Cheers!
15. Thanks! Sounds good, will look at it when I try the base concept. I take it multi-floor elevators also used a script or Stim / Response all along then? Didn't think about it before. Another gimmick I wanted to attempt... this is something I always wanted to try out in TDM, now that I'm working on a small FM with just a few ambient songs I figured it would be a good time. I like how in similar games the music changes when a guard is attacking you which also helps you know you're being attacked: How would I do this? If scripting is needed as will surely be the case, how do I check the highest alert level of an AI then stop whichever song is playing and play a fixed one instead, afterward when the AI calms down go back to the ambience defined in that zone? I noticed that in my first FM (and somehow still the only one I finished and posted to this day) I'd use $atdm_location_settings_1.setKey("snd_myarea","nosound") to clear or change the music in a place. I could do this whenever a guard changes alert level I guess, but I think the ambient music is only applied when the player enters or exits an area so I'd also need a way to refresh it. What are your thoughts?
16. Thanks for the replies, gonna try those spoiler Tags again now for my short review (oh well it inserted one above my text now and I can't seem to delete it on mobile - this text editor is strange)
17. Just finished this mission and wow I gotta say in great honor to Grayman and of course the rest of the team picking it up, this was something I've never seen before in any other TDM mission, especially visually wise. I am so happy that grayson gave green light for other experienced mappers to finish his last mission. And what came out of this is really something special. I'll put my review in spoiler tags since I'm now referring to critical mission details. Edit - How do I put spoiler text here on mobile??
test

test
[spoiler[spoiler [sfah
18. Good work! I enjoy short missions because things are nice and focused - you get in, you get out. Also I tend to do better with the loot amounts and I was able to get all the loot without too much trouble, which is rare for me. If I were to make a suggestion though - I found the intro briefing sequence a bit distracting because it was so obvious the narration was pitch-shifted to make a deeper voice. If you felt the original voice wasn't deep enough for your needs, I would either get someone on the forums to record it for you or just leave as is. That's my only real complaint and it's not even about the mission itself, so pretty good first start!
19. Okay, I had no idea, I have googled it up now and you are right, to my own surprise. Done, I´ve put some paragraphs which were previously not in spoiler tags into spoilers.
20. Thebigh is right. The pronunciation tripped me up too, but that is apparently how Leicester is pronounced. Also @TarhielI'm glad you are loving the FM but do you mind putting spoiler tags on your post please
21. I generally dislike starting new topics as long as there's already a thread about them. However, this time, I think I'm really forced to start a new thread. Here goes... I really like the instrumental track from TDM's Credits sequence. I've also heard it in several of the trailers made to promote the standalone version. Unfortunately, even after having unzipped the music files, and after having searched the whole forums, I simply can't find any info on that track. Could someone please give me a hint on where it might be within the TDM files ? Or a link to the site of the track's author ? I'd like to listen to the track outside of the credits, preferrably in .ogg or .mp3 format. Thanks a ton for any advice ! I'd be grateful.
22. We will look at some of this stuff, but SPOILER tags, please!!!
23. Those guidelines sound a bit outdated to me — like they were conjured up the era of dial-up modems. Ogg Vorbis files are not generally encoded with a specific bitrate, but with a quality factor which goes from -1 to 10. Quality of around 4 - 5 should be more or less transparent to most people, so I'd aim for this. The output bitrate will probably end up somewhere near the values given in those guidelines, but they won't match exactly, and that's fine. The important thing is the constant quality factor, which ensures that the music/SFX sounds good no matter how "complex" it is. Ambient background music should definitely be stereo. Mono music sounds like it comes from the middle of your head whereas stereo can sound like it is all around you (i.e. "ambient"). Of course this depends on the content of the music and how it is mixed, but there is absolutely nothing to be gained by mixing down to mono in this day and age. And if you do submit some sounds, please submit uncompressed (FLAC/WAV) versions as well as Oggs if possible. This allows the sounds to be remixed later (or used to create entirely new sounds) without introducing generation loss due to repeated compression.
24. This may make sense in that the performance impact of the volumetric effect can scale with how much of the effect is filling the screen. We shipped with a “performance mode” but had to setup the entities by hand to do it (so it’s not perfect). If you change the LOD detail settings to “Low” or “Lowest” this will disable certain lights, particles and such that can be very heavy to render. You can try these settings and see if you notice an improvement. If not sending us some pictures of heavy areas (with spoiler tags please) will be helpful with tuning these “performance modes” in subsequent patches. Thanks for playing!
25. I'd like to better understand what you want. The design of dragging bodies is to hold frob (key down) to drag and release frob (key up) to let go. That way it's impossible to walk away while unintentionally dragging a body. Plus, it's quick to grab and move several body limbs in rapid succession. This is thought to provide a better experience, especially for new players. Towards the beginning of this thread, I created a "tdm_frobhold_drag_body_behavior" cvar. https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/22198-feature-proposal-frob-to-use-world-item/&do=findComment&comment=487580 "tdm_frobhold_drag_body_behavior", default:"1" Which drag body behavior? 1 --- on frob key up, drop body (limb). 0 --- on second frob, drop body (limb), TDM v2.11 (and prior) behavior. That cvar was removed shortly afterwards, because it was said that it wasn't needed. With that cvar set to 0, a second frob would be required to let go of the body. Is that the behavior that you want? If so, I can add that cvar back. Also, I saw elsewhere that you want the ability to revert back to the old way. If you mean that all of the controls match TDM 2.11, that can be done with "tdm_frobhold_delay 0" and there will be a menu setting to disable it as well.
