  1. Is there something wrong with the forums lately, or is it my browser? I've been having trouble formatting posts, and just now I couldn't format anything at all.

    I'm using Vivaldi.

Usually I have to: select text, click bold, nothing happens, select again, click bold, then it works.

Same for other stuff, like creating spoilers, bullet points, links. Nothing works the first time.

I have no problem. I use Firefox. @Zerg Rush also uses Vivaldi. Have you tried without extensions, or in another browser?

(btw. bold, italic and underline have shortcut keys: Ctrl B, Ctrl I and Ctrl U, you could try that)

  2. Since Aluminum directed me here ( https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/9082-newbie-darkradiant-questions/page/437/#comment-475263 ) can we have unlimited renderer effects? Well, maybe not unlimited, by maybe 3-5? Thanks.

Since I wasn't the one mainly asking, I'll just cite you in the original thread instead.

There already is a kind of sorting, sort nearest, sort decal, sort <n>. For things like windows and such, sort nearest should probably have the desirable affect, though looking through multiple translucent shaders might kill performance.

Is having multiple render effects really killing performance that badly? I don't understand. You're saying that if I have two transparent objects side-by-side, then they'll just count as two render effects, but when combined, they somehow become something much more difficult to render?

Never-the-less, unless we're talking some kind of infinite portal problem, why not let the mapper choose how much he wants to kill performance? Just warn him against putting too many effects close together.

  3. Woo!! 2.10 Beta "Release Candidate" ( 210-07 ) is out:

    https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/21198-beta-testing-210/

It wont be long now :) ...

  4. I don't think there's a link to thedarkmod.com on forums.thedarkmod.com ...

Yeah and the wiki and moddb. It should have those links in the footer I think. Probably easy to add by an admin.

Edit: And a link to the bugtracker. I'm always searching for a post in the forum that links to that because I can't remember the url.

I drew attention to this several times in the last few years. No one payed it any attention, so I just gave up.

Reluctance to improve the forums is matched by reluctance to allow more people to work on it. Talk about trust and power.

  5. Original idtechforums thread Being a big fan of medieval/fantasy/steampunk stealth games, I always regret that up to this point no major AAA studio bothered enough to release a cooperative version of the genre... And so due to the lack of coop content in that genre, I decided to try and get existing builds to work in COOP, that would allow players to enjoy that type of gameplay with friends across the internet... Now of course, given the fact that I am an individual with a fairly limited amount of resources and capabilities, I have to maximize code and asset acquisition, in case I ever expect to complete any project within a reasonable amount of time and release it to the community... Luckily for me the idtech community is an amazing place with extraordinary talented people, that are kind enough allowing me to use their top quality art and code for my community targeted coop projects... In The Shadows, Quake 1 Mod by Simon 'Sock' O'Callaghan ================================================= "In The Shadows" is a Quake 1 conversion that adds a stealth system and whole new campaign to Quake. Sneak past the enemies and/or try kill them safely from within the shadows while playing through the custom campaign avoiding detection... Simon was kind enough to provide his project's source code for internal testing and so with a few quite rudimentary changes to the code, I was able to enable coop-capability for the campaign... ... the Coop test session was recorded (click on the image to playback the youtube video) Then of course I got my own idtech4 based projects (FMJ,MCS,Venture) cooking and in the past I mentioned several times that I am a huge Thief:Deadly Shadows fan and the idea of being able to play it in COOP with a friend across the internet was intriguing enough to me to actually start and rebuilding the game within idtech4... Thief: Deadly Shadows @ idtech4 by Oneofthe8devilz ============================================ Now porting a game to a complete different engine/codebase is of course a gigantic task (especially for a "one man" team) so when you watch the early WIP footage below please bear that in mind, with me still figuring out how to rebuild game assets, shaders and code the most efficient way. But the general idea is to slowly port the game mission by mission, asset by asset to idtech4... (click on the image to playback the youtube video) Garrett@NightmareBurrows@Venture (click the image to watch the youtube video) I am looking for fellow modders to join this project to speed up the development... For the other COOP fanatics here, I will keep this thread updated with the progress I make over time... IdTech Hybrid Engine and Netcode Showcase ======================================= (click the animated image to watch the youtube video) I remember lately the community having debates about whether to stick with the original Doom3 codebase or to migrate to Doom3 BFG... And while arguments were made for and against from both sides (Sikkmod vs RBDOOM-3-BFG for example) I always wondered why not creating a hybrid approach that takes the advantages of each codebase utilizing the best of both worlds... This showcase consists of a code and assets merge of multiple previous prototype projects incorporating trebor's shadowmapping, sikkpin's hdr lighting, zombie's dungeon map and MCS's game & netcode... It still runs on Doom3's original framework allowing easy modding (with a custom gamex86.dll) and dedicated server hosting and browsing... Aside from the specifically showcased unified soft-shadow-mapping and high-dynamic-range-lighting, it was also as usual important for me to demonstrate that those features flawlessly work together with MCS's network synced AI over a high latency low bandwidth Server <-> Client connection (simulating a server/client distance of about 10000 kilometers). Venture Online PlayTest 2019 [idtech] ======================================= (click the image to watch the youtube video) ClientSide Online Playtest connected to a Dedicated Server testing fully operational FirstPerson and ThirdPerson Views and Animations replicated across the Network/Internet with the new hybrid idtech4 engine. ***Update*** For the people that find the lighting intensity in the video too strong I made this little comparison GIF animation which shows a few of many possible examples of how differently the game can be setup to look on the Client: So if you don't like the Bloom... just change or disable it, If you don't like the Depth of Field... just change or disable it, If you don't like the HDR Rendering... just change or disable it, If you don't like the SoftShadows... just change or disabled them, If you'd like a different ColorGrading ... just set it ... etc etc etc Example GIF showcase (click to open it) http://www.scared-pixel-studios.com/public/images/venture/Venture.ClientSide.Visual.Settings.gif As showcased in its current state, it is a proof of concept build and I don't feel at liberty to predict when and if at all it will make it into a final, releasable project, since there are currently too many factors but as you'll notice, it runs remarkably stable and performant.
  6. Not so long ago I found what could make a pretty good profile picture and decided to try it out on these new forums. But I couldn't find a button anywhere that would let me change it. I asked on Discord and it seems Spooks also couldn't find anything anywhere. So I logged into an old alternative account and, lo and behold, that account has a button. This is on the first screen I get when I: 1) click on my account name in the top-right of the browser -> 2) click on 'profile'. Compared to my actual account: Are you also missing this button on your account? It'd be very much appreciated if that functionality could be restored to any of the affected accounts.
  7. Hi, I need to know what the code is to use Spoiler Tags. I am using my tablet and I don't have the options to use anything, like spoiler tags, quote tags, text changes etc. Thanks
  8. Got a spare key for Magicka 2, a nice 4 player local-coop game, which is currently at 15 € on steam. Anyone want it for 5 €?

  9. I know it's been debated, but no thief in the real world actually works alone .... My wife and I start missions simultaneously so we can kinda feel like we're going through it together, as we sit side by side in our game room .... We played ALL thievery missions together, but that's getting dated fast ..... we also played Doom 3 together using the Last Man Standing D3 Coop mod .... works like a charm for all four of us (two girls play along with us too) It makes family game night a wee bit different in our house ...... I always wondered that since the Last Man Standing Coop mod for Doom 3 worked so well, why couldn't it be an option for TDM? I thought of actually contacting the LMS developers and hiring them to do a custom coop mod for us ... desperate I know , but after Thievery, we realize how fun sneaking around together actually is! All the elements are there, it seems like one would just have to take advantage of it if they knew how ... I mean those guys did it for Doom 3 right? Wife and I envision someday a massive multiplayer online city map server where citazens roamed about thier business, and thieves could work together, share hints, buy and sell items to each other, etc .... We sure wish we could hook up with some of you great folfs for some thieving together!
  10. I was wondering if anyone from the community or DarkMod team could make a Coop mode for the TheDarkMod? I was trying to do the coop mod with my friend on Thief II: The Metal Age and we didn't really understood it very good. So, is there anyway possible to make a coop mod that is easy to do and the community could make coop fan missions for? I would love to have a server browser but if you can't IP Address connecting would be fine too. Thanks to the people who reply to this new topic..

Yes it was in a discussion where someone was saying how unhappy they are with the way game companies grant themselves permission to do whatever they like to your PC and personal info today. I pointed out that giving up games completely is an unnecessarily overkill solution when there are free games like TDM to play.

    Sven-Coop 5.0

http://store.steampowered.com/app/225840/ Version 5.0 of Sven-Coop, a cooperative mod for the original Half-Life, came out last week and now it is a standalone game (Valve gave them the goldsrc source code). This makes the mod 17 years old. The full half-life single player campaign is included too. I've been playing it for the past week and to be honest it's the most fun I've had with a game in years. I played the very early releases of the game way back and this new update is making me feel like a kid again (in that it's been a while since I've had this much genuine fun with a game and also I keep losing track of time and finding myself up at 1am). And I'm happy to see that a lot of newbie players are looking past the dated graphics and giving the game a chance. Lots of people on the servers that have never heard of a "jump-duck" Anyways, I highly recommend it. There are apparently some serious bugs, but I've been running the game via WINE and opensource ATI drivers without any issues. Word of advice though: avoid servers with lots of players--there are only a few maps where a packed server works well. And if you're playing the single player campaign, I wouldn't play with more than 3 other people. If they're all friends, even better. The team plans to continue development of the game and it seems that they want to try implementing some interesting things in the goldsrc engine. They've already added a scripting language for map makers and server admins that allows one to change almost every aspect of the game.
  14. I had a lazy weekend, so I did some local coop with my neighbor. We played Hammerwatch and Gauntlet (yup, a remake of the original). They play pretty much the same, you hack and slay masses and masses of monsters and collect gold to buy upgrades. Difficulty is quite high for both, Hammerwatch especially so. It has this old school feel to it and by this I don't just mean the top down pixelated graphics, but also the way the game plays, with secrets everywhere and such. Gauntlet is missing some more upgrade variety though whereas in Hammerwatch, there are pretty many upgrades which gives it a little bit of an RPG feeling. And I am loving the mage type in Gauntlet. While the other classes are pretty limited in their number of moves, the mage can actually cast a lot of different useful spells and the casting works similar to the system deployed in Magicka but better tailored for the controller. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K26sEwEwXFU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOkKcZyA9Xs Wow, this IGN review of Gauntlet actually doesn't sound too good. Still, me and my neighbor had a blast. Haha, funny how he mentions that the mage is pretty complicated to play and nobody would want to play him online. Anyway, I recommend both these games for a relaxed afternoon with up to four friends. Do you know any other cool local coop games for the pc? (Magicka is awesome too btw, but its simply a lot more enjoyable with keyboard+mouse combo, as you can cast spells better then, so that makes it unsuitable for local couch coop)

  15. Hi guys, through the "cheats" topic I got the idea, that it would be quite useful, if there were tags for missions (the post was about removing the killing restriction in some missions to suit the prefered play style). I don't know how easy or difficult this is, but with them, it would be quite convenient to pick missions with playstyles, environment, etc one does want to use. This could also be expanded to other mission properties. I remember a discussion about climbable drains, handles on doors, that cannot be picked and other things the map author chooses for himself. That way these things would be clearer and as I said before, it is easier to choose missions with playstyles that suit oneself. What do think?
