  1. I understand and assume @stgatilov's optimizations are a leap forward (or go in that direction). Having two or more ways of doing things means mappers can still get away with the "old ways" (the ball keeps rolling). Although deprecated, the devs must take into consideration alternatives that were left behind. Maintaining backwards compatibility can sometimes hinder development in the long run (I rather not go down the rabbit hole). Letting things break sometimes is the best solution: somehow, someday, someone will fix it. We must assess the impact and then assess potential solutions. I am impressed by your capabilities to detect these issues @Daft Mugi! How do you do it? Do you somehow sense where or what to look for?
  2. That sort of tone doesn't fly in our forums.
  3. Ehm, it's not so easy. It is true that part of the script referring to the UI is proprietary licensed, but fully auditable and even modifiable by the user, they even teach how to do it (of course at your own risk). There were internal debates about this topic and why they don't release this 5% of the code. The reasons are very clear when looking at the current browser market, 80% monopolized by Chrome and Edge, apart from endless forks of all kinds based on Chromium. Vivaldi is a small cooperative with a small market share, but with absolutely unique features, based on this protected little part of the script that everyone tries to imitate, early Chrome and Edge, albeit with poor results. If Vivaldi releases this code, the result would be the end of Vivaldi, a Chrome that monopolizes these functions and ends up completely dominating the market, with no one to shadow it. FOSS is a good thing, allowing to share and collaborate in the development of new software, which is the main task of this system, but in the case of Browsers, where there are already more than 100 forks of all kinds of Blink mainly, Whether it is a FOSS product or not becomes secondary, all of them can create and share development with the base that is 100% FOSS, mainly in the way of removing the influence of Google and MS from this base, Provide Google with the possibility of making these modifications their own will be the end for others, handing over the market to Google. The ethics of the company has nothing to do with this, it is expressed in the ethics it has with the user and this has nothing to do with whether it is FOSS or not. See the example with Firefox, it's 100% FOSS and its poor user ethic with things Vivaldi would never do. In the 7 Jears I used this Browser Ive seen the Devs even working and releasing patches in Sundays to fix small bugs. They work on base of most voted feature requests of the user, offering, apart from the browser a free mail account and a blog for private use, apart a Mastodon instance included in the account and full user support with the team members active in the community forum, even with Jon von Tetzchner itself as often as he can, if he isn't occupied with conferences from EEUU to Japan because of Security and privacy themes, promoting EU tech in Belgium in collaboration with europena Tech centers.
  4. I would use this massive list for any fan missions, it includes campaigns too: https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=148090 There are a lot of Fan Missions for the picking, I myself go for the lesser known ones and the short variety, because sometimes they hide a gem or two. Just like jaxa, I'm a bit outdated after the temporal retirement, but I do remember some amazing campaigns like "The Black Frog". If you intend to play The Black Frog, you should play the first two of the L'Arsene series missions, it's how I did it myself. Also, yes, L'Arsene are a fantastic series. The first mission of L'Arsene is a "rough draft", author was a bit new to Thief level making, but still great either way, after the 3rd you will see how his skill increased by a massive amount.
  5. Of course, it is one of the reasons for the decline of online forums, since the advent of mobile phones. Forums on a mobile are a pain in the ass, but on the other hand, for certain things there are no real alternatives to forums, social networks cannot be with their sequential threads, where it is almost impossible to retrieve answers to a question that is asked. has done days ago. For devs for internal communication, the only thing offered is a collaborative app, such as System D (not to be confused with systemd). FOSS, free and anonymous registration, access further members only by invitation, full encrypted and private. https://www.system-d.org
  6. Unfortunately, TDM forum deletes the separator between the numbers. So I have to guess where one number ends and the next starts Also, user can rename screenshot manually, or push it through something that would rename it automatically. Thenwe won't see coordinates on screenshot address on forums.
  7. tdm_show_viewpos cvar and screenshot_viewpos command: https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/22310-212-viewpos-on-player-hud-and-screenshots/
  8. I raised a concern elsewhere and I would like to raise it again here since I now have more details. Something is off with the Modpack in the last Development Builds. Once again, I don't expect support for Mods but this is something that might impact missions hence I bring it here for analysis. With the Modpack enabled if "Uncap FPS" is set to "Off" two mods slow down considerably: Loot Animations and Blinking Items. None of these scripts do anything that I can detect and tag as special or irregular and missions could perfectly make use of similar scripts for other purposes. What puzzles me is that mods are ok when "Uncap FPS" is set to "On". Everything is fine in the current TDM 2.11a regardless of the Uncap FPS setting. My Max FPS is always set to 60.
  9. Relax @Näkki, it's great to hear you enjoyed the game. My personal expectations were just a bit different when I read the Steam page, although the various trailers should have been a warning that stealth maybe wasn't the biggest priority of the devs. From the Steam page: "Weird west legends meet eldritch horror in BLOOD WEST, an immersive stealth FPS." Also "Blood West is a stealth FPS inspired by the genre classics such as the Thief series (whose fans will be happy to hear the voice of Stephen Russell, the actor voicing the master-thief Garrett, returning here as the protagonist), S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games, or - from the contemporary catalog - Hunt: Showdown. The gameplay rewards the careful approach: scouting the area, stalking your enemies, and striking from the shadows. Can you figure out a way to clear a fort full of ghouls and monsters without raising an alarm?" From my personal experience I think the game is predominantly Hunt: Showdown, a bit of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and a very small portion Thief. Stealth is very unforgiving and makes it almost impossible early game when there are various enemies around, but hey maybe I just suck at it. I don't see Deus Ex in it, unless the skill leveling is the Deus Ex part for you and then I have to disagree with you, as that seems like the trait system in Hunt: Showdown. Edit: What I also understood from the Steam forums is that the original VA was dropped close before the release of the full version and replaced by Russell with no real explanation from the devs why this was done.
  10. Not so long ago I found what could make a pretty good profile picture and decided to try it out on these new forums. But I couldn't find a button anywhere that would let me change it. I asked on Discord and it seems Spooks also couldn't find anything anywhere. So I logged into an old alternative account and, lo and behold, that account has a button. This is on the first screen I get when I: 1) click on my account name in the top-right of the browser -> 2) click on 'profile'. Compared to my actual account: Are you also missing this button on your account? It'd be very much appreciated if that functionality could be restored to any of the affected accounts.
  11. So, if I understand you, no Thief Gold FM does sound and text notifications of completed objectives? The missions in The Black Parade surely did. I'm completely confused now. I was sure that original Thief Gold had those objective complete notifications (at least the sound). Reading this thread suggests otherwise though: https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=132977
  12. That honestly sounds a description of the current patch to me - you never responded to my question as to why you view it as “radical”, why you feel like there is justification for you to redefine the scope of the patch at this point to not address the concerns of these players, and way there is cause to not consider expanding the test base by including the patch in an actual dev build? You mention the code has been this way for a long time - it takes a very shallow glance to see how long players have also been posting on this forum asking how to shoulder a body and getting some frigid responses about reading the wiki or playing the training mission. It has been consistent since at least 2009. The idea that a game that is still in active development can’t strive to improve these things just does not resonate with me at all.
  13. Greetings everyone! I recently got into TDM and am already having a lot of fun playing through and ghosting missions. However, coming from Thief, I am mostly relying on the rules and my experience with that game, while there are clearly differences in how TDM works. Right now, there is talk in the ghosting discussion thread on TTLG to amend the ruleset and include clarifications pertaining to TDM. So I wanted to drop by and ask: is there an active TDM ghosting community already and have any rules for this playstyle been developed? I would also like to ask someone to take a look at the draft of this addendum to see whether everything looks correct: https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=148487&page=16&p=2473352&viewfull=1#post2473352 Thanks!
  14. A Problem Arises I've paused subtitling of the Lady02 vocal set, because of a problem with the voice clips described here: https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/21741-subtitles-possibilities-beyond-211/&do=findComment&comment=490151 While a way forward is being determined, I'll work on a different vocal set. Maybe manbeast, for which Kingsal just provided me the voice script.
  15. i threw my 1080 ti into the old cabby despite the mainboards being pretty similar the rog strix gaming x99 was a bit more stable than my asus x99-A II though tests say the A II is the better board so huh ?!? only difference as far as i can see is that the rog gaming x99 has built in wifi but otherwise the boards look exactly the same despite the color. might just be a glitch with mine since i had quite some trouble with getting it to run when i got it (one ram module turned out to be bitchy) strangely the single module had no errors but when i ran it with any of the other modules in the set the mainboard crashed all the time, so i bought a quad paired set of g-skill aegis 8gb modules and cleaned the board thorougly. its been running ever since though a few oddities have turned up from time to time. so right now it runs my old R9 290X gfx card and after some messing about with a mod called potato mash i can even run starfield on it. ill delegate it for msys2 package development for now though. the old cabby runs like a small rocket due to the 16 core xeon so ill use that for gaming for the time being .
  16. oh aye that was allways one major problem with prebuilts from those lineups, atleast it is not an old ibm where even the cards where non standard atleast a few of the hp line does take an ordinary PSU but it seems that model is a workstation and uses a pretty non standard PSU so delegating it to development only would indeed be a good idea as an upgrade is pretty hard to come by. i did dig this one up though and it should fit -> Partnumber 913290-001 Description GNRC, PSU 500W, 90% EFF,800 TWR sadly thats about the largest one for that model but should be enough to drive a 1080 ti as that is what the special elitedesk 800 this PSU is from was fitted with. the board is pretty much the same. you can order it here if you want https://parts.hp.com/hpparts/Default.aspx?mscssid= just enter the part number.
  17. Yep using ryzen setup for the time being is reasonable given it has more capability to run this game . I am planning to wipe out all games from my elitedesk 800 g3 tower pc and using it merely for development and low power home server. Usually you don't dwell about GPU upgradeability when buying prebuilt desktop until you have to and you subsequently start to think "why did i buy this pc instead of custom-built pc and why did i go <your tiny form factor choice> route" ? . This is happening to me right now LMAO. i become more dissastified with the performance outcome and i am having an urge to enjoy more graphic demanding games. The good news is i went to full-tower form factor so i didn't have to think much about low profile GPUs. But at this point another interesting problem has come up : Finding a right PSU for HP prodesk or elitedesk(especially the one which is rated at 250 or 300 watt) is a major pain since power supplies tend to be proprietary for HP prebuilt PC thus you can't just throw in any PSUs available on the market. The same goes for dell optiplex and lenovo thinkcentre PC
  18. yeah the earlier intel integrated gfx chipsets were pretty bad for gaming on the skylake as such is an excellent gaming cpu but not using the integrated gfx. even a secondhand 970 gtx would give a major improvement despite being several generations behind the current gfx card lineups. for the moment its maybe better to use the ryzen model for gaming while delegating the skylake to development ?.
  19. HP Elitedesk 800 G3 with i5 6500, 8gb dual channel , 256Gb SSD and 1 GB VRAM allocated to intel skylake integrated graphics. The result was disappointing, i got all-time low fps in TDM, stutters all time, my lowest fps was 7-8 fps and the highest i can get was 70 iirc. Thinkpad T480(yep i know business laptop isn't supposed to run games and i use it mainly for development purposes) with core i5 8250u , 8gb ram and 512GB SSD : minor improvement from above spec, probably around 5-6% Ryzen 3 3200G APU with 8GB dual channel 2666mhz DDR4 RAM, 1GB VRAM and 512 nvme SSD+ 512GB SATA SSD : able to hit above 60-80+ fps without much effort
  20. Hi, I need to know what the code is to use Spoiler Tags. I am using my tablet and I don't have the options to use anything, like spoiler tags, quote tags, text changes etc. Thanks
  21. Don't worry, the name is wildly misleading. This interesting youtube channel features development stories of legendary games like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzD9ldLoc3c
  22. I was trying to export a collision model to make a frobbable brush and I clicked 'save selected as collision model'. The 'select model' menu popped up with the last entity I had placed, a crate, highlighted. I x'd out. Now whenever I try to place any entity it's placing a crate with it. 1. how do I un-taff my collision models and 2. how do I actually make a brush into a frobbable object? Meaning, how do I actually export a collision model? Also, I know I have to assign the 'custom grabbable' entity, but do I place that entity and then set something in the spawnargs to refer to the brush I want movable and the collision model? Thanks as always for the help. Coming really close to having a map that is fully playable and getting pretty excited, so it's heartbreaking to get stuck like this in a way that I can't continue for now!
  23. Black Parade is released ! https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=152429
  24. Thanks for the replies, gonna try those spoiler Tags again now for my short review (oh well it inserted one above my text now and I can't seem to delete it on mobile - this text editor is strange)
  25. Just finished this mission and wow I gotta say in great honor to Grayman and of course the rest of the team picking it up, this was something I've never seen before in any other TDM mission, especially visually wise. I am so happy that grayson gave green light for other experienced mappers to finish his last mission. And what came out of this is really something special. I'll put my review in spoiler tags since I'm now referring to critical mission details. Edit - How do I put spoiler text here on mobile?? [spoiler] test [/spoiler][SPOILER] test [/SPOILER] [spoiler[spoiler [sfah
