  1. I have just played the update part way through on Expert. The fireplace lever is now sorted, but I too have a problem with the jeweler's shop key.
  2. Strange. Just restarted the game and loaded from my last save and... they work now! Perhaps restarting was the answer all along. I probably should've tested that before running to the forums - sorry about that!
  3. No problem. Nice work on the new ones!
  4. newer found the idtech 4 engine to be overly resource hungry, hell some of the original render paths used optimizations as far back as the geforce 2 mx and with some fiddling it actually ran on a voodoo2 . sure it looked like a cartoon because the voodoo did not support shaders at all, but it did run and was playable. the darkmod port uses a bit more umph but its pretty well optimized so unless you start loading something like sikkmods parallax occlusion shaders i doubt most modern cards would have a problem with running it
  5. The problem with the lever is if people have the frob helper turned on... And you're right about the cabinets - they can probably be moved. I guess I'll have to add these scripts to the ever-growing list of unreliable TDM features....
  6. Yeah and this is the problem - there's no way really to tell why it's happening. To troubleshoot this issue, we would probably need someone who has experienced the problem to volunteer for a lot of really boring testing.
  7. So regarding the frobbing issues. The thing in common with the two areas is a location script executes when entering/leaving the area which sets the frobability of the items. This is to prevent them being frobbed from outside their location, through walls, etc. I've used this technique in my last 3 FMs without any problems. I'm wondering if these aren't executing for some people? Also: So for people having the issue - at your convenience could you try starting a new game and noclipping to the problem areas to see if the issue still happens? The location scripts should still execute while in noclip mode.
  8. What a mission. All my favorite ingredients - verticality, story, secrets, optional objectives - in a setting previously unseen in TDM as far as I recall. Sneaking about felt incredibly fresh, almost like a different game. And the doors with the little latches! Unlocking shortcuts and passages was most enjoyable, which is good as it's a big mission with lots to explore. The Ministry was pretty challenging to stealth through with all the cameras, particularly the one on the top floor. Found 9 secrets out of 10 and a bit over 5k loot. The problem with the unfrobbable lever in the fireplace and the two display cases also happened to me. For some reason, when I started the mission again and noclipped over to the fireplace lever and the two display cases in the jewel shop, all of them could be frobbed. I guess I must have done something weird in the playthrough to change that.
  9. I am looking for "autoexec.cfg" inside darkmod folder where the game is located, but I can't find it. Could this problem be because I did not use the installer, but used moddb's "extract & play" version?
  10. I have the 64 bit version of TDM, and ran the installer before downloading the FM to ensure I was up-to-date. I played on Expert, and managed to meet the loot objective without getting my hands on the jewels in the shop. I did not encounter any other problems except an occasional and temporary framerate stuttering. I've just transferred one of my savegames to another laptop with an up-to-date version of TDM, and with this FM installed, and the problem with the jewelry cases is still there. It's a great mission otherwise!
  11. Already configured: https://github.com/stgatilov/darkmod_src/blob/11165752178aa59f507ae6bd8781f7a4fe81d250/CMakeLists.txt#L88 The problem is allocating more than 2GB during level load. Win32 has a hard limit for processes.
  12. Just use 32bit binaries+Large Address Aware flag! /LARGEADDRESSAWARE (Handle Large Addresses) | Microsoft Learn Large Address Aware | TechPowerUp Forums
  13. Because it's super useful not having to browse through the whole thread, and probably not even finding what you're looking for, because people put it in spoiler tags, which are excluded from the search. You don't have to click on the spoiler tag in the original post.
  14. Basically someone always asks. We're all grownups here and it's in spoiler tags so...
  15. I hope that is not the new TDM version. https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/20784-render-bug-large-black-box-occluding-screen/
  16. The script might not be too far off what I was thinking anyways, because one of the reasons I wanted to be able to do it in DR is because you could then have a test script like 'Check for missing EFX on info_location entities'. So maybe we can just have a script called 'generate EFX file' or something like @datiswous is suggesting. The problem is that if feels a bit like a halfway house instead of a proper implementation. Also I think we all could probably agree the EFX file will never go away in case people want to do more than just presets, so we would have to support both the info_location method and the file method. Just thinking out loud here, and good discussion
  17. For free ambience tracks it's as Freky said: you look around on the internet for tracks with the appropriate license to be included in your FM. Fortunately, you likely don't even need to bother doing this as a beginner as there's an entire "Music & SFX" section of the forums full of good ambient tracks for you to use if the stock tracks do not meet your fancy. You might also be interested in Orbweaver's "Dark Ambients", which come with a sndshd file already written for you.
  18. I don't think it's a problem. Acidentally I read about this a week ago. It was still difficult to find it back. I hope the info in the topic is useful for you.
  19. I just made an interesting discovery. In my FM that's in beta I have custom main menu music, but it doesn't always work. Basically it works: When you first start the game (whether the FM is currently selected or if you change to this mission and the game restarts) during the text briefing It doesn't work (i.e. you only get silence) When escaping back to the main menu while in-game After quitting a mission and it goes back to menu As far as I know I had all the correct settings in mainmenu_custom_defs.gui: /// Menu music after startup (not in-game) #define MM_MENU_SOUND_CMD "music fs_muslim;" /// Played in main menu when in-game (ESCaping out of the game) #define MM_INGAME_MENU_SOUND_CMD "music fs_muslim;" /// Played during non-video briefing #define MM_BRIEFING_SOUND_CMD "music fs_muslim;" It turns out the problem was I had this line set in the sound shader: leadin sound/ambient/ambience/silence.ogg Commenting that out on a hunch fixed the problem. So you might be saying to yourself 'that's all very interesting but who cares?'. My point is: Just an FYI in case someone else runs into this I don't think there is anywhere on the Wiki that covers menu customization? @Geep you've done a whole bunch around GUI scripting recently - is there somewhere you can recommend I can stick this?
  20. For the FM? For beta 1 it's here: https://drive.proton.me/urls/H1QBB04GA0#oBZTb1CmVFQb I've already done around 100 fixes though, so you might want to wait for beta 2 which should be ready in a couple of days hopefully. All links are in the first post of the beta thread here: https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/22439-the-lieutenant-3-foreign-affairs-beta-testing/
  21. Well that doesn't mean that everyone is d'accord with all the gameplay choices he made in these missions, does it? All I can say is that I never got the impression here or elsewhere that there are issues with the weapon behavior in TDM. Maybe apart from the blackjacking, which has been a controversial topic in the past. I can only repeat myself in arguing that the big problem is the uniformity of essential gameplay elements. The game just doesn't feel coherent, if every FM author changes important gameplay dynamics, and it makes it difficult and frustrating, not just for beginners.
  22. Yeah, I can do that. Shouldn't be a problem, unless anyone has a particular objection to it being uploaded to the repo
  23. I created discussion here and mentioned authors (maybe I missed someone though). Unlike the previous thread about main menu GUI overrides, I think the new one does not look aggressive . The main question there is why this was done, and how to adapt to avoid this problem now and in the future. Indeed, all the missions will be fixed by 2.13 even if some authors don't respond. Dev builds regularly break something, although usually it is done unintentionally. I added "known issues" point on the dev build, which happens pretty rarely. I apologize for the negative emotions this change has caused. Sometimes I am too rough in communications. Moreover, I am not a creative kind of person, I'm more a technical type of person. Thus I believe in interface boundaries, so in my mind the blame for breakage is always on the side that violates these boundaries. Anyway, I know I'll have to fix the breakage, probably myself if necessary.
  24. And... running another update and the problem is solved. Sorry for the noise.
