  1. Is there something wrong with the forums lately, or is it my browser? I've been having trouble formatting posts, and just now I couldn't format anything at all.

    I'm using Vivaldi.

Usually I have to: select text, click bold, nothing happens, select again, click bold, then it works.

Same for other stuff, like creating spoilers, bullet points, links. Nothing works the first time.

I have no problem. I use Firefox. @Zerg Rush also uses Vivaldi. Have you tried without extensions, or in another browser?

(btw. bold, italic and underline have shortcut keys: Ctrl B, Ctrl I and Ctrl U, you could try that)

  2. I tried The Dark Mod 2.09 and 2.10 but i dont get any visual only background music playing. I tried version 2.0. I could start first level but i could not save. And i could not play other missions.its buggy.Any solution? pc spec: AMD FX-4300 Quad-Core. 3.80 Ghz RAM: 6 GB Video card: ATI Radeon 3000 Graphics
  3. Since Aluminum directed me here ( https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/9082-newbie-darkradiant-questions/page/437/#comment-475263 ) can we have unlimited renderer effects? Well, maybe not unlimited, by maybe 3-5? Thanks.

Since I wasn't the one mainly asking, I'll just cite you in the original thread instead.

There already is a kind of sorting, sort nearest, sort decal, sort <n>. For things like windows and such, sort nearest should probably have the desirable affect, though looking through multiple translucent shaders might kill performance.

    4. Nort

      Nort

Is having multiple render effects really killing performance that badly? I don't understand. You're saying that if I have two transparent objects side-by-side, then they'll just count as two render effects, but when combined, they somehow become something much more difficult to render?

Never-the-less, unless we're talking some kind of infinite portal problem, why not let the mapper choose how much he wants to kill performance? Just warn him against putting too many effects close together.

  4. Woo!! 2.10 Beta "Release Candidate" ( 210-07 ) is out:

    https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/21198-beta-testing-210/

It wont be long now :) ...

  5. I don't think there's a link to thedarkmod.com on forums.thedarkmod.com ...

Yeah and the wiki and moddb. It should have those links in the footer I think. Probably easy to add by an admin.

Edit: And a link to the bugtracker. I'm always searching for a post in the forum that links to that because I can't remember the url.

Reluctance to improve the forums is matched by reluctance to allow more people to work on it. Talk about trust and power.

  6. This isn't the first time I've had this issue, but previously I tackled it on WinXP and that wasn't so bad. Now it's Win7 time and far more of a headache than I remember it being. I'm yet to dive into the registry and hack chunks out of that, but I may have to resort to that... This all started when needing to install the 2019 runtime for UE4. Some runtimes are refusing to uninstall, and some newer releases are refusing to install unless that happens. I run into this error:- Windows Installer The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. And here's a list I've made of the packages that are being stubborn:- __________________________________________ 2005 x86:- ..\\Users\_______\AppData\Local\Temp\IXP001.TMP\vcredist.msi 560KB 2008 9.0.30729.6161 x64:- ..\\dc2935d289eddfed8abe7f5a57\vc_red.msi 788KB 2008 9.0.21022 x86:- ..\\db2e604ea13629ba9f36e7d1\vc_red.msi 2.06MB 2008 9.0.30729.17 x86:- ..\\1db3a11f542711aa258f8d39c90e\vc_red.msi 594KB 2008 9.0.30729.6161 x86:- ..\\c3d074dacbfc78a3885977c0\vc_red.msi 600KB 2010 10.0.30319 x64:- ..\\e370fe1f9610bf9212639a92\vc_red.msi 13.6MB 2010 10.0.40219 x64:- ..\\32ca29e0ac6330298a58c1\vc_red.msi 13.8MB 2010 10.0.40219 x86:- ..\\8aa5c006360cf2ac3ed515\vc_red.msi 11.1MB 2013 12.0.40664 x64:- ..\\ProgramData\Package Cache\{929FBD26-9020-399B-9A7A-751D61F0B942}v12.0.21005\packages\vcRuntimeAdditional_amd64\vc_runtimeAdditional_x64.msi ?MB 2013 12.0.40664 x86:- ..\\ProgramData\Package Cache\{F8CFEB22-A2E7-3971-9EDA-4B11EDEFC185}v12.0.21005\packages\vcRuntimeAdditional_x86\vc_runtimeAdditional_x86.msi ?MB 2019 14.25.28508 x64:- ..\\ProgramData\Package Cache\{B0037450-526D-3448-A370-CACBD87769A0}v14.11.25325\packages\vcRuntimeMinimum_amd64\vc_runtimeMinimum_x64.msi ?MB __________________________________________ Others uninstalled without any complaints, but these just will not. It's ridiculous that Microsoft put these files into temp folders, or even worse - into root directories, and expect them to still exist months or years later, and outright refuse to uninstall otherwise! The pages and pages I've read about similar issues - Microsoft support are the LAST people who know what the hell is going on. "Reinstall Windows" is a common 'final solution'. Oh yeah, and then what, start from scratch just to crash head-first into the same brick wall all over again? Thanks... I've tried some all-in-one solutions and a "total uninstaller" I found, but none of them solve the issue. The Windows Installer dialog pops up and expects an MSI file. Links:- https://www.softpedia.com/get/Programming/Components-Libraries/Visual-C-Installer-Uninstaller.shtml https://www.techpowerup.com/download/visual-c-redistributable-runtime-package-all-in-one/ https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/visual_c_runtime_installer.html https://mpvci.b-cdn.net/MPVCI_2.6_setup.exe https://github.com/Microsoft/VisualStudioUninstaller/releases https://github.com/tsasioglu/Total-Uninstaller I've tried tracking down the MSI files, both online and locally, but no luck there. I've tried to extract the EXEs but I don't get proper filenames when doing that. Perhaps one of the extracted files is the MSI file but I have no idea how to identify it. It doesn't seem to be the case. Anyway, I thought I'd try to post this here too, since TDM/DR relies on these runtimes, and maybe some of you might be kind enough to scan your systems for these MSI files, package them up and send them my way somehow? Thanks. I'll be sure to follow up on this if/when I find a non-nuclear solution. . . .
  7. Not so long ago I found what could make a pretty good profile picture and decided to try it out on these new forums. But I couldn't find a button anywhere that would let me change it. I asked on Discord and it seems Spooks also couldn't find anything anywhere. So I logged into an old alternative account and, lo and behold, that account has a button. This is on the first screen I get when I: 1) click on my account name in the top-right of the browser -> 2) click on 'profile'. Compared to my actual account: Are you also missing this button on your account? It'd be very much appreciated if that functionality could be restored to any of the affected accounts.
  8. Would the skyglow amplification caused by falling/fallen snow be a visual factor in TDM missions (or cities from hundreds of years ago)? Or is it only noticeable with today's modern lighting?

Skyglow is caused by modern lights yes.

The only questions you should ask yourself is: Does it look better with or without skyglow? :-)

In a fantasy setting, i guess it could always be caused by magic. :)

  9. Hi, I need to know what the code is to use Spoiler Tags. I am using my tablet and I don't have the options to use anything, like spoiler tags, quote tags, text changes etc. Thanks
  10. Hello. I've decided to have a look at the DR code, which starts with trying to compile it. I found this page and began going through the instructions. I used TortoiseGit to clone DR. Is this any different to going to GitHub and downloading the project as a zip file, or is a Git client just for keeping things synchronized? The link to TortoiseGit takes us to a different program: Only a Google search takes us to the correct program. I extracted the w32deps/ and w64deps/ folders into DarkRadiant so my folder structure matched the screenshot. When I tried to compile (Debug/Release or Win32/64 makes no difference) I got well over 100 errors about missing files: I did some searching and found a solution to the above: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/38290169/cannot-find-corecrt-h-universalcrt-includepath-is-wrong (reinstall VS (it may do an update) then you'll see the modify button mentioned by parsely72) I then got it to compile, albeit with many warnings: Those warnings disappeared after the first compilation, so I guess all relevant files were created. Hopefully my story will help someone else. Does the wiki page need updating?
  11. Hello! I've been having a host of weird AA/ graphics problems with 2.06. Ill post them here and create bug reports when necessary (sorry if these are redundant in other threads) Windows 10. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980. (Latest drivers) TDM 2.06 (Both 32 and 64 bit) Problem 1- AA forces fullscreen - While in windowed mode + (advanced render features off / SS/ Post/ect) - If I click AA on, it forces fullscreen mode even after restart. I have to disable AA and then restart to get back into window mode. Problem 2- AA and my skyboxes -While AA is turned on + (forced fullscreen, advanced render features off). My skyboxes get this weird windowed effect in them. If I turn bloom on, the effect is very noticeable and creates a huge FPS drop. Some screenshots: Cauldron: With Bloom: Volta and the Stone: with bloom: I did try removing the fog light I use in the skybox, but the problem persisted. Problem 3- Water shader - All advanced features off including AA. I get these very weird black lines on my water shader. Material file: volta_water_material.txt I want to make sure these are legit mod bugs before filing reports, so please let me know if you have the same problems or if these are already filed and being tracked. Thanks!
  12. I hate "changes" when they're not needed, like a website visual change. But surprisingly enough, www.thedarkmod.com's new visuals are incredibly good! Well done, very well done.

There are already several new pictures there, and I removed some of the oldest and least evocative ones. I still plan on adding some video links.

Yes it was in a discussion where someone was saying how unhappy they are with the way game companies grant themselves permission to do whatever they like to your PC and personal info today. I pointed out that giving up games completely is an unnecessarily overkill solution when there are free games like TDM to play.

  14. Hi, I'm trying to compile the game DLL with the latest Visual Studio and I'm running into a couple of problems. There are some syntax issues in idLib, but they seem easy to solve. There are also some file details that need a fix. So, before I get knee deep into the code, us there any guide or advice for VS above 2013? Thanks a lot, and regards, Javier

  15. Hi guys, through the "cheats" topic I got the idea, that it would be quite useful, if there were tags for missions (the post was about removing the killing restriction in some missions to suit the prefered play style). I don't know how easy or difficult this is, but with them, it would be quite convenient to pick missions with playstyles, environment, etc one does want to use. This could also be expanded to other mission properties. I remember a discussion about climbable drains, handles on doors, that cannot be picked and other things the map author chooses for himself. That way these things would be clearer and as I said before, it is easier to choose missions with playstyles that suit oneself. What do think?
