  1. Since it's a one-off problem, only for the first ambient at game start, then the way you fixed it is really the right way, because the system-level alternative would be whole a little subsystem (a specialized fidelay and mandatory _z soundshader) just to handle the first 0.1 seconds of game start, and then the old system for all the maps already out there, which is a bit much. And I think it's not even that common because many ambients start quietly to begin with. That said, there might be an easy bit of code that could make sure the fade in always works for the first ambient that doesn't mess with anything else in the system, like a hardcoded initial 0.1 sec. delay only for it, and that may be worth doing. But it'd need experimenting and testing to make sure it works as intended and doesn't have unintended consequences. Anyway, it's good we have this documented for now as the way to fix the problem for other people in the future that run into it searching for a fix. In fact it'd be good to put in the wiki to make sure the fix doesn't get lost.
  2. The real St. Alban was a pagan who became a celebrated religious personality, this All Saints Day 2010 The Dark Mod places its own spin on this mythical figure. Screenshots: Intro: "'Business' has been slow lately, even more so after most of my gear got snatched during a Watch raid... I've since been forced to hit the streets and pick pockets for a living. But my luck was about to change, last night I was approached by a red hooded figure with a proposition... As we sat down in a dark corner of a nearby inn, he told to me that the Builders of St. Alban's Cathedral in the Old Quarter had recently unearthed a discovery that might lead to the final resting place of some saint." " But before I do anything, I need to get my tools and stash from the evidence room at the local watch station." "with the hawks, doves will congregate they will drop honey from the cliffs wine will surge over the earth the sheep will wander harmlessly with the wolf then the wicked will rise, but to retribution" - 'scripture of St Alban' There is a new version out now, see the following thread St Albans Cathedral version 1.6 Build Time: about 2-3 months. Thanks:- Huge respect to the Dark Mod team for such a great mod and for all the hard work they put into it and continue to put into it. Special thanks to Fidcal, Serpentine and others for their help on the forums and to Testing:Ugoliant, Baddcog, Grayman, Lost soul, Bjorn and Baal (for doing all the Vp work in the town. Readables: Ungoliant and Mortemdesino for all awesome work on the readables. Resource: Fids, Grayman, Ungoliant - guis, models & images. Misc: Loren Schmidt - the author of the map I based the cathedral on. Info: # Like Thief2, some things are climable, pipes, wall vines etc.. You can also drop some of the keys, some door that are frobbabe mean there is another way inside - explore u taffer! # Due to TDM being a lot more of a resource hog than T2 I have been forced to limit the number of Ai in the mission, but they have better placement than my last mission. # On all difficulty levels the player starts with vertualy no tools/weapons, there are weapons to be found - read, read, read! # For the love of all that is holy, read the briefing otherwise you will problems completing the mission. Known issues:- # This mission will have less than optimal fps at a few points on the map, mid range DX9 card(X1900/GF7800) or higher required. # On low end PCs I recommend, V-sync is off, AA is off, Aniso is 4x or lower and that any and all background apps are closed.
  3. Thief 4 has been confirmed for shit. Its now up to TDM to be the real Thief successor. I'm so fucking depressed after seeing these videos. My favorite activity has been taken over by retarded fratboys and feminists. All challenge is gone. Stealth is fucking dead, takedowns, getting fucking XP for shooting someone in the head, incredibly simplified ui and light gem for idiots, AI is shit and takes eternity to spot you. So fucking bad. This game is garbage, and I'm so sad to see Looking Glass's memory dishonored (see what I did there) with this abomination. Oh and its unmoddable, confirmed by devs. I bet it has dishonoreds problem in that all the toys and tools and xp upgrades and whatever the fuck are all aimed at killing people, which is useless in a stealth game. This isn't a stealth game, its a killing game made for retard cod fanboys who just HAVE to see things die. This isn't Thief. The fucking gold you steal isn't even used for anything. Theres no store where you buy equipment, you are just given a set of shit at the start of each 'mission'. I'm so disappointed I'm at a loss for words.
  4. revelator

    solus

yeah win11 is not that different from win10 except for some rather ludicrous hardware expectations like cpu and tpm. i can get behind the tpm requirement though truth be told one could use an usb stick for the same (storing encrypted keys), but the cpu requirement is kinda fubar since i use a gen 4 for running win10 with no problems whatsoever and it also runs 11 just fine despite not being on the approved list. sure you can fool win 11 to install on it but there are no guarantees that microsoft wont disable that down the line so no thanks :). manjaro was one of my earlier favorites in the linux world, sadly the last time i tried it, it would not play ball with my hardware and also had a bit of the same problem most other mainstream distros have where you could install stuff not native to the kernel and hence break everything, i find what solus did to be gratifying since a lot of people who have not grown up in the linux world and who are not able to identify and correct these annoyances should feel more at home. sure theres still a bit of reading to be done but you dont need to be a rocket scientist to use it

  6. Author Note: This is a brand new mission and a new entry into the accountant series. There are some different than usual puzzles in this FM, so if you find yourself stuck try to think about your pathway forward in a logical manner. And if you're still having troubles then pop by this thread and ask (preferably with spoiler tags). This FM is brand new and serves as the first installment in The Accountant series, a few years back there was a small prologue style mission released however I felt that it did not represent The Accountant series so I decided to go back to the drawing board and do a whole new mission that's larger, has a better level design and has a story that lines up closer to what I plan to do with the accountant series. The mission is medium sized and you can expect between 30-90 minutes to complete it depending on your playstyle. 7. Not with "real human hands" I don't. This isn't Condemned or Bioshock =D I figured it was a model, but not "magic". I wonder if there is a mission with living statues? Thank you for the mission... I'll start the next episode
  8. The problem does not show up with all related dev builds. However, I cannot test with the last build (16854-10518), which I simply cannot start and get the report EDIT: As per our friend dragofer's suggestion, I made a blank script file in this build and removed the turrets from the WIP for a test. Then I can start the game and the mission and can save/load without problems. Summary: 16842-10488: no problems 16854-10518: cannot test (see above) 16854-10518 (modified scriptfile, no turrets) : no problems beta 1: problem appears
  9. Great little mission , what sets it apart from my point of view was the atmosphere, city design and the nice touch at the start of the mission. The only thing I miss (which I realize is a personal preference) is a bit of fog/mist in the city / garden, but other than that it was for me a near perfect mission albeit a bit limited. Played on 64bit Debian 'Trixie' with the 'darkmod' directory on NFS. (For some reason the first time i tried this mission darkmod failed to load the savegame. Only happened once, but still worth mentioning I think). Perhaps a bit off topic, but I wish the amazing city is being reused and made larger in another mission. Roaming the city (and it's roof tops) in another mission with a werewolf lurking around somewhere in the city would be a great second mission. Perhaps a second mission could be inspired by H.P. Lovecraft's 'the lurking fear' or 'the hound' if I may be so bold (and bald) as to say so.
  10. Welcome to the forums Ansome! And congrats on making it to beta phase!
  11. Another leak in Written in Stone near start (230 -1820 65): This case is more interesting because it is not just light leaking vs not leaking through a wall. Here we see view-dependent scissoring rectangle which limits the light effect. The light source is in the farthest area behind a wall (on the middle of the two far visportals). There is no way to cast a ray from the light source through visportals that would reach the viewer area: if you hit one of the far portals, then you surely don't hit the near portals. So the frontend decides that the light is not active in the viewer's area. Then the light scissor is bounding rectangle around all the visportals. Normally, the wall in between should occlude the light, but apparently it was set to noshadows. This wall seals the areas, so this is the same kind of bad input as usual. But the resulting behavior is indeed interesting. So I wonder how should we fix it @Amadeus @Dragofer
  12. Which gui defenition did you use? Is it book_hand_jd_hand.gui ? Edit, yeah that seems to cut of width and height. Testcase: fm Mandrosella Start mission In console type notarget and teleport atdm_readable_mobile_book01_01 Book is locked away though, so maybe not the best testcase. Is this bugged in Darkradiant or TDM though?
  13. Indeed: there are already accuracy issues as soon as you use floats (especially single precision), and a hard-coded snap-to-integer behaviour seems to be reducing accuracy still further. That's actually a rare example of "App Hungarian notation" where the prefixes convey meaningful application-specific information, rather than just duplicating basic types like integer or float. It has been suggested that this was what HN was originally supposed to be, but everybody used it just to show primitive types which resulted in the whole convention becoming disliked. Exactly, and it breaks down completely once you start using more complex types than primitive numbers. Knowing that something is a pointer is useless without knowing what it points to, knowing that something is an "obj" or a "struct" is similarly unhelpful, and once you start trying to expand the convention so that the prefixes can convey information about the actual object type, you will end up with complex multi-character encoded prefixes that nobody else will be able to understand.
  14. So I'm getting into mapping, and naturally I gravitated right towards a couple Youtube people. I firstly watched the tutorials from Nico Autia cause those were the first I found, and those ended up teaching me some of the more basic useful controls in advance. But I encountered a problem, and went to look for other tutorials to check their approach, and I was gradually lead to Springheel's much more indepth workshop series. Springheel starting with modules and prefabs for his rooms has definitely been useful for teaching me how to USE those features - I have a tester map I've been using his stuff in - but for actual map-making, I don't rather like the prefab and modules approach to start with. On my actual first map I'm trying to work with, I've been using the idea of VERY roughly outlining the level layout with sloppy brushwork, to get a feel for where everything should go and how the place should flow. Ideally, I've set myself up with very primitive versions of what the level should look like, when I begin decorating it and making it LOOK nice and functional later. But really, I'm a new guy. So I just want to actually ask since I'm going kind of against the primo tutorial: Is this a good way to be mapping? Pictures in link. https://imgur.com/a/9DC5u8H
  15. This is a great first mission and a neat adaptation of Lovecraft's short story. I especially loved the start - the streets after dark, the door that slams shut as you approach, and the house's silhouette against the starry sky as you walk up the road. The atmosphere was so thick one could practically cut it! Once inside the house, I kept expecting the inevitable, and my enjoyment of finding loot was matched by my paranoid dread of encountering the terrible old man. The end was not unexpected but definitely well done.
  16. Don't really know what's going on. Maybe youd like to upload the save somewhere like Google Drive, Dropbox or Onedrive - in that case, what TDM version are you on? What objectives remain uncompleted? As a last resort you can force the script to happen via the console, but due to a bug you wont be able to make saves for the rest of the mission. Youre 80% done, though. Will need to look up the exact command.
  17. Yeah it would be cool to see some more detailed statistics and it’s a shame they aren’t really captured. Since we are talking about fan mission platforms, where players also make the content for the game, I feel like the best thing we’ve got is you can look at the number of content releases for the games. Keep in mind the graph counts campaigns as single missions - so for example NHAT and TBP both count as 1 mission. A good year for TDM has has approaching maybe 50% - mostly we’re 25-30%. https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=152494 You could also look at the number of ratings thief missions get on https://www.thiefguild.com/ vs TDM ones, but that is pretty iffy in that you could chalk that up to more awareness of the site in the thief community than TDM Out of curiosity is there a reason a thief player can’t be a new player? I kind of think a player is a player and new players would be ones who are playing the dark mod who weren't? Is there disagreement the base of players most likely to pick up the game are fans of the thief games? They are certainly the most fruitful place to find feedback on the game beyond the sphere of this forum that I have seen. When we were trying to finish up SLL there was a lot of discussion on the forums about how long it had been since there was a release for the game. I am thankful that the stats show at least some stability over the years in terms of releases for TDM, but the trend for all of the games is decline. Not doing anything is a valid response if that’s what the devs want to do - it is not possible to provide evidence that any effort will slow that inertia. As a player and content maker I would just prefer trying to find feedback where it is offered from players who were willing to try the game but ultimately could not engage with it and see if there is anything that can be done within reason to ease them into the game. The game has a lot to offer imo. All those players are potential contributors - contributions in turn attract players - it’d be nice to see the cycle go on as long as it can.
  18. Hi, I'm trying to make some maps for dhewm3, but if I give the path where the game files resides it crashes. In my case the path is /usr/local/share/dhewm3/ This doesn't happen if I give it my working path but then I'm missing all definitions, models, materials etc.. ~/.local/share/dhewm3/ My system is Ubuntu 20.04, DarkRadiant 3.2.0 is installed from ppa This is the error: $ darkradiant SIGSEGV signal caught: 11 0: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/darkradiant/modules/libradiantcore.so(_ZN6applog15SegFaultHandler14_handleSigSegvEi+0x474) [0x7f7b3f2ebef4] 1: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6(+0x43090) [0x7f7b524ce090] 2: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/darkradiant/modules/libradiantcore.so(_ZN4decl23DeclarationFolderParser5parseERSiRKN3vfs8FileInfoERKNSt7__cxx1112basic_stringIcSt11char_traitsIcESaIcEEE+0x202) [0 x7f7b3f1abf32] 3: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/darkradiant/modules/libradiantcore.so(_ZN6parser18ThreadedDeclParserIvE12processFilesEv+0x87b) [0x7f7b3f1b9f8b] 4: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/darkradiant/modules/libradiantcore.so(_ZN6parser18ThreadedDeclParserIvE7doParseEv+0x20) [0x7f7b3f1bb140] 5: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/darkradiant/modules/libradiantcore.so(_ZNSt17_Function_handlerIFSt10unique_ptrINSt13__future_base12_Result_baseENS2_8_DeleterEEvENS1_12_Task_setterIS0_INS1_7_Resu ltIvEES3_ENSt6thread8_InvokerISt5tupleIJZN6parser17ThreadedDefLoaderIvE19ensureLoaderStartedEvEUlvE_EEEEvEEE9_M_invokeERKSt9_Any_data+0x50) [0x7f7b3f1d1e20] 6: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/darkradiant/modules/libradiantcore.so(_ZNSt13__future_base13_State_baseV29_M_do_setEPSt8functionIFSt10unique_ptrINS_12_Result_baseENS3_8_DeleterEEvEEPb+0x2d) [0x7 f7b3f1c6f2d] 7: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0(+0x114df) [0x7f7b5268e4df] 8: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/darkradiant/modules/libradiantcore.so(_ZNSt6thread11_State_implINS_8_InvokerISt5tupleIJZNSt13__future_base17_Async_state_implINS1_IS2_IJZN6parser17ThreadedDefLoad erIvE19ensureLoaderStartedEvEUlvE_EEEEvEC4EOSA_EUlvE_EEEEE6_M_runEv+0xfd) [0x7f7b3f1ca13d] 9: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6(+0xd6de4) [0x7f7b528e2de4] 10: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0(+0x8609) [0x7f7b52685609] 11: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6(clone+0x43) [0x7f7b525aa133]
  19. @MirceaKitsuneThanks for the playthrough and feedback! In recent memory my mapping efforts have gone to new projects that I feel more inspired for - I think they would probably also be more interesting to the broader TDM community. The fix to Linux users getting stuck at map start was fixed in 12-06. The FM update only covers datiswous' new subtitles and an early attempt to fix the stuck bug by moving the player start a few units. The ship was made from scratch for this FM with an exterior and interior. It's my first ship asset and I've made a lot more ships since then and which have gone up in build quality progressively. You can send me a PM if you need to get sorted out with a ship for an FM.
  20. Regarding worldspawn "forceAllShadowsBehindOpaque" set to "1", it doesn't seem to get restored on game load. To reproduce (works with any fixed mission using "forceAllShadowsBehindOpaque"): Add "forceAllShadowsBehindOpaque" "1" to the worldspawn in the map file. From main menu, "Start this Mission" or "Restart Mission". setviewpos Notice that the light leak is fixed (not present). Save game. Load game. Notice that the light leak is present (not fixed). Example 1. From main menu, "Start this Mission" or "Restart Mission". 2. Run setviewpos. 3. Save game. 4. Load game.
  21. yes it only has VGA and another port but not HDMI as the HDMI cable wont fit. The picture is too large to send I'm afraid.
  22. Not to start a discussion on this but just for correctness, that is not true at all, unless you are using a really low polygon shadow mesh, if you see a pixelated shadow with stencil, then that is a shadow map or a mix of both stencil and shadow maps. Stencil shadows are crisp and well defined, they have no resolution setting or quality setting (besides turning off shadows), because they are literally geometry (triangles) being projected unto surfaces, while shadow maps are pixels (textures) so you can control how sharp they are. TDM has a mix shadow system, where some effects even in stencil shadow mode, will use shadow maps, for example volumetric lights shadows, are shadow maps. Stencil shadows Shadow maps
  23. It's easy to imagine how #1 can be solved fairly: When the player or an enemy AI shoot an armed AI, the AI that was hit should be given a random destination near the attacker to run to. The further the player is from the target, the larger the radius around the player in which a random node may be picked; If you're far away the virtual sphere should be large, meaning AI may run to a room or passage near you but still in your general direction . This new behavior should be influenced by AI acuity and difficulty settings though I'm not sure which ones... also toggled by one, for those who prefer the old way and abusing clueless guards as they wonder what force of the universe must be hitting them. By the way, and I just realized this now: The problem doesn't only affect attacks, but also spotting the player before attacking. Think of the last time a guard standing outside spotted you on a balcony before you hid, enough to draw their swords and start searching but not attack you outright; The guard was alerted by something in a building, yet he draws his sword to search the area near him. If I'm standing outside and think I see a burglar in my house through the window, I'm going to go near my home if I plan to confront the possible intruder, not start looking around the road next to me and say "I know you're here somewhere" which would imply I have a serious problem Main reason I mention #2 is when I helped with transcribing the subtitles for the drunk voice, I noticed there are voice lines for AI returning with an ally. Two in fact: If the player is still there the AI has a voice line for telling the other person "that's the one let's get him", if the player hid there are lines such as "you were too slow now he got away". Those voices in particular are never played, or at least I don't remember ever hearing them in all those years: It occurred to me while I wrote this post that they're likely designed for a mechanic that was never implemented... or was but broke very long ago? Curious what its history is.
  24. I am very curious at the average age of our little community. Thief came out a long time ago when we were young, and I was wondering if we're attracting a younger crowd or if we're all just drifting towards senility. I'll start, I'm between 31-40
  25. As a mere player, I have modified Far Cry 2 and Splinter Cell games. Of course it makes me happy to see folks documenting their methods, because I would not have known where to start without them. I don't have any coding knowledge, but simply follow instructions, and merely experiment a little. As for most of your questions - the more flexibility the better, for sure. Who wouldn't be happy? Always exciting to check in on what new possibilities modders have discovered, even if these features do not interest me, so yeah I have been regularly visiting certain mod pages (including yours). Idk what anyone gets out of flame wars. There was some drama around Far Cry 2 modders some years ago that was such a bummer to see, as the plagiarizing a-hole was the same guy who also actively introduced never-before-seen possibilities. TDM has left me content so far, so I haven't really cared about learning how to mod it, but now that 2.12 introduced a faster mantling which I do not like at all - I'd give it a go if it is not too demanding.
