Related to this, imo don't vote if you get stuck very early and cannot continue and give up or don't have time or had so much frustration you don't feel inclined to try again. You can't be sure it's not your fault so to give a bad vote is unfair. If you later read that the way to proceed was so obscure that nobody solved it without asking then I guess you could vote bad.

Well, all of those are true and legit... but really you should vote the way you want to. If you were pissed off because the thing wouldn't run on your 80286, then let it be known. If you "hated it" because purple and brown are ugly together then vote it! If you had some bad mushroom tea or scrambled eggs and felt ill or badtrippedhallucinogenic and you feel you want to blame the mission, then own it. If your boyfriend was pestering you and you were happy to get some escape and the mission provided it even if it was short and simple your mood will win out? If you happened to be sick to the fucking gills of yet-another-mechanists-in-the-forest mollycoddly, though it be a coincidence and no fault of the mission maker, unleash your merciless misery upon the markup.

Just try and be consistent.

Or don't.

I've just browsed this thread and it seems to me there are only two more possible entrants:

Winter

Komag

I'll give a last extension up to midday (noon) UK time Saturday 28th August.

Please let us know if you are still in the contest as no point in waiting if not. Also if I've overlooked anyone please post.

I'm going to bow out of the contest. my mission is about 90% complete. it's really just a case of putting the finishing touches to it and getting it beta tested, but thats easier said than done, seeing as I have no time to work on it during weekdays at the mo. But it shouldn't be more than a week or two before its released. I'd prefer to not enter the contest and eventually release something I'm satisfied with instead of rushing something just to enter the contest. if I was playing someone elses FM I'd prefer that they did the same. Hopefully it will be worth the wait. It's a small city mission. The first half is quite platformer ish with the second half more of your typical Thief like sneakiness. Hopefully the two different play styles will make it interesting.

nborh1more please add me to the Upcoming Fan Missions list. Thank you.

Mine's almost done, just one more sound thing I'm trying to do, then package it up

OK, thanks. I think that will be about 8 completed for the contest which is pretty good. Hopefully we can close this down at the weekend then allow what, 2 weeks, a month? for voting. Then it will be time for the Xmas contest! Maybe do a snow hohoho contest where you have to get down the chimney and steal all the children's presents.

Thanks Biker. I don't really know what you can do though. It's really just a case of polishing it up really. But like I said earlier, I don't really have any time during weekdays. You can beta test it if you wouldn't mind? It should be ready for beta by weekend at latest. That would be V helpful!

Fids, cant you give winter untill the 28th as well..?

Winter, you should start a Pm thread and add myself and three other testers - do a testers required thread as its gonna take the rest of the week to get it sorted.

As my map is one of the maps that grayman and others can't play due to bad optimization on my behalf/old computers on their behalf, is it okay if I make an overhaul and try to optimize so he and the other low-enders can enjoy it? Or is it not allowed to do these kind of improvements?

Posted

I would LOVE for this to be allowed until all the late submissions are final.

nbohr, my favourite low-ender :) May I ask you to test my optimized version when it comes around? Even if the contest won't allow it, I shall release a better version. The whole idea in my opinion is to release good missions. My score may very well be based upon the crappy sluggish version but Betrayal - the good edition shall also hit the charts B)

Biker, I copied all improvements you've done in the mines, into my map so all your improvements are inserted :)

Sacrifices? :o You are not threatening my boathouse again are ye?:laugh:

I am indeed, change all the outside Visportals into Skyportals and I would do the same with the VP's on the upper tower.

The obove is a simple update and will only take minutes to re-upload.

I could indeed do a low-end version and cut down on all outside crap. Like put a wall with skytexture just outside the perimiter of the level and draw it all the way up...That way it will still be climbable...

That sounds like fun, but do you think there will be time for a Halloween contest before Xmas? ebil.gif

I just uploaded a new version of the Visible Player Hands mod. It's been updated for TDM 2.13 and has new animations. Check out the post if you're interested!

I moved from Manjaro Linux (rolling release) to Linux Mint (LTS). One of the reasons was that I found the updates a bit too often and long. But now on Mint I get updates every day, although they're usually small updates.

I'd like to track my level design progress a bit more often now, so I'm using the feed in my profile here.
I've been working intensively on Springheel's YouTube course over the past few days. I'm currently up to lesson 8. There is so much information that needs to be processed and practiced.
I have started to create my own house. As I don't have the imagination to create a good floor plan, I grabbed a floor plan generator from Watabou and experimented with it. I chose a floor plan that I will modify slightly, but at least I now have an initial idea.
I used two guards as a measuring tape: The rooms are two guards high. It turned out that I can simply double the number of boxes in DarkRadiant in grid size 8 that are drawn in the floor plan.
I practiced the simplest things on the floor plan first. Drawing walls, cutting walls, inserting doors, cutting out frames, creating VisPortals, furnishing rooms.
I have had my first success in creating a book. Creating a book was easier than I thought. I have a few ideas with books. The level I'm creating will be more or less a chill level, just for me, where I'll try out a few things. I don't have an idea for my own mission yet. I want to start small first.
For the cellar, I wanted to have a second entrance, which should be on the outside. I'm fascinated by these basement doors from the USA, I think they're called Bilco basement doors. They are very unusual in Germany, but this type of access is sometimes used for deliveries to restaurants etc., where barrels can be rolled or lifted into the cellar.
I used two Hatch Doors, but they got completely disoriented after turning. I have since got them reasonably tamed. It's not perfect, but it's acceptable.
In the cellar today I experimented with a trap door that leads to a shaft system. The rooms aren't practically finished yet, but I want to continue working on the floor plan for now. I'll be starting on the upper floor very soon.

On a lighter note, thanks to my cat-like reflexes, my superior puzzle skills and my perfect memory, I was able to beat the remastered version of "Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation" in a new superhuman record time of 23 h : 35 m, worship me!
