Hey since I just read in the other thread that Sotha is addicted to DarkRadiant (;)), I was wondering how much time an addict spends with our beloved editor? I hope nobody of you guys and gals forgets to eat or stuff like that while you're on a trip. :)

I typically build on free weekends when there are no interruptions. Weekdays, not so much anymore; too tired after work.

Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum. -- Collected letters of the Smith-in-Exile, Civitas Approved

Usually an hour at a time, whenever I'm not working on actual mod stuff, which is why I have yet to finish my mission.... :P

Highly variable. Some days it's hard to do even 20 minutes. But when I'm on a roll then definitely an hour here, 90 minutes, there adding up to say 4, 5 hours some days and I'm sure there are many days when it's more. So a guestimate average might be 4 hours = 28 a week when I'm 'really' working at an FM. But as I say, that's not consistent.

I spend a couple hours each day on DR. The problem is half the time I like to just sit and stare at the work I've done, then start daydreaming. So usually for every 2 hours, I've done about half an hour of real work.

suffered from the same "disease". I have overcame it by listening instrumental black metal. yeah I'm seriously serious!

When I've got a clear idea in my mind, I'll go maybe 2 hours a day and blitz through the better part of a weekend. When I don't have a clear idea in my mind, then things tend to just sit there until it comes to me and I'll almost not want to get on just to look at it.

That's why I've become such a fan of spending a lot of time making a map & working on the story first, then make all the areas up front if only as placeholders (part of the stepwise refinement mantra), and then always keeping a running list of things to do next. The idea is to make things as concrete and bite-sized as possible, then it gives me initiative to get on and get a lot done right off.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

I'll either not touch it for days at a time (like now, scooped up big time on the steam sales, AND have a stack over a foot tall of old games I need to beat...) orrrr.... I'll fire DR, spot something I wanna do, and holy crap it's what o'clock? Aww hell, shop opens in an hour, I can get food/energy drink, I'll do more mapping. Hrm lunch time, time for sleep D:

Has anyone had any luck with textures from Polyhaven? Their OpenEXR normal maps seem too washed out and give incorrect shading in the engine.

I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.

Trying to be productive on my down-time before Capcom releases Akuma and my son is constantly on my PC playing Street Fighter...

Finally got round to publishing a tutorial on baking normal maps in Blender, since most of the ones we have are inaccessible or years out of date.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.
