The main site has been updated, that may have been the reason. :)

 

Nice new look, too.

The forums are not hosted at the same server as the website. The website is on "our" own server, the forums are hosted by modetwo. I guess some data center outage caused the downtime.

 

Though I have to say, it's very rare for the forum to be out of reach, it hasn't been down for a minute for years, so let's show some appreciation for modetwo who is doing that for free, on his own expense (the forum software is not free of charge).

I fully respect him for the hosting. I though it was releated with main site update. That's it.

 

And the main site, it's fresh and good. :)

Is that for sure? I (and to my knowledge, Bikerdude too) have experienced connection errors when trying to reach the forum. But maybe the issue is on our provider's side.

On the new front page the logo that links to downloads section should be replaced with 1-2 latest news items. It doesn't make sense to have "To download the mod, visit our Downloads section or click the image below", then the image which is just the same link, and then empty space. Register + login links should go below the links on the left of the page. Other than that, looks nice.

Sorry, I just found the server being unresponsive this morning (CET). It turns out that the VPS node was turned off. I'm still investigating the cause, but as I started to get a few SQL errors yesterday it seems I may have to recompile Apache as the current version has a bug in it that may cause high load issues.

 

By the way, planning a major upgrade to both the forum software and the Wiki very soon. Will update you guys on the plans once I have a date I have time to complete it.

If you have nothing that explicitly requires Apache, might be worth moving the 'cut and dry' stuff over to nginx. Pretty sure it'll save you a fair bit of sanity in the long run :)

 

Few CSS issues with the front page (which gives me default color background). But horid WP addons CSS + js etc makes that about as much fun as pulling toenails off. It does seem related to the js however - so perhaps I'll dig it out tomoz.

I've added the most recent news item to the front page now.

 

talking about the new site, one of the background images is very low res (the one of inside of my alberic church)

If you have a higher res one feel free to send it to me, I'm happy to replace it. It should match the old one overall, in terms of size and perspective.

 

And I've made the page validate in the W3 validator app, there were a few errors in there. Not that it makes any difference, browsers don't care either way.

Also some of the images on the media page are low res/blocky so do crisp version of those as well..

 

In fact all of the missions need more screenshots, so will do a load of them as well.

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh?       Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

      Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
