  1. Is there something wrong with the forums lately, or is it my browser? I've been having trouble formatting posts, and just now I couldn't format anything at all.

    I'm using Vivaldi.

Usually I have to: select text, click bold, nothing happens, select again, click bold, then it works.

Same for other stuff, like creating spoilers, bullet points, links. Nothing works the first time.

I have no problem. I use Firefox. @Zerg Rush also uses Vivaldi. Have you tried without extensions, or in another browser?

(btw. bold, italic and underline have shortcut keys: Ctrl B, Ctrl I and Ctrl U, you could try that)

  2. (Original Post) Hey ho. I am currently working on an alternative approach to blackjacking that doesn't rely on animation based hit collision, as it is now. Part of this approach is that the player gets a feedback on whether he can knockout the enemy in front of him via a suitable animation. As I am not familiar with neither modeling nor animating I would humbly ask for someone to help me out here. What I need is an animation that starts in the blackjack's idle state. The blackjack should then be slightly raised. Thanks in advance. ========================================= To test this out you can run the tdm_installer, select custom version and then select the dev16599-10071 dev build that can be found under dev/2.11. In addition you have to use this custom manifest url: http://ftp.thedarkmod.com/custom_builds/blackjack/manifest.iniz EDIT: There is a newer dev build available containing all the changes. The manifest is no longer needed. The ko indication can be toggled via the cvar tdm_blackjack_indicate. =========================================
  3. TDM currently uses Scons as the build system to build the execuables from the source code for Linux and Mac. (I guess the Windows side uses whatever MS uses). This has been working more or less for a few years, and one shouldn't "fix" a working system. However, the merging of the D3 source code and the TDM source also brougth along a change to try to use pre-compiled headers. This, however, does somehow not work in the combination of scons, and gcc. Everytime a single line is changed anywhere (in fact, even if 0 lines are changed), the entire source code is recompiled from scratch. Due to the precompiled header, this goes a bit faster than before (16 mins vs 22 mins on my old PC), but it is still annoying having to wait that long, not to mention not being able to use the system during that time. So, it is highly desirable to fix this problem. Here is your chance to fame. Go fix it! Related thoughts: * the minimal invasive solution is prefered - if it can be made with scons, the better! There is no real need to rip out out and replace scons with another build system, unless this brings massive advantages (frankly, the only one I can see is "make it work with precompiled headers"). However, if you do so, prepare to get swear words thrown at because a new build system is likely to bring other, yet unknown problems Nobody will complain, tho, if you make the change to whatever, and it just works, tho Bonus points for: * Creating an automated build system. Something living on the greater internet, syncing SVN every minute, and when detecting a new checkin, re-compiling the source automatically, then publishing the build log on the web, and make the result downloadable.
  4. @stgatilov In Written in Stone at 308 -1768 123 -13.7 68.3 0 (noclip) using stencil shadows (r10166), the FPS drops from 60 to 45-50. There is no FPS drop with r9853/2.10; it's 60 fps. I found that enabling Frontend Acceleration improved the situation and FPS was a steady 60 fps. Summarized: Frontend Acceleration enabled r10166 stencil 60 fps Frontend Acceleration disabled r10166 stencil 45-50 fps r10166 maps 60 fps r9853 stencil 60 fps I thought you might want to investigate this scene. Maybe there's an optimization that can be done.
  5. Just found out piped.kavin.rocks has a build-in audio-only for video's (great for music video's). Never thought something like this (including browser extensions) excisted. This would have saved me a lot of money on vacation, where I was camping without wifi.

Is piped.kavin.rocks broken? I think I've used it once before but now it seems to do nothing, even after I disabled all my blockers.

Seems to work fine for me..

I had another moment to look. Still seems broke AF, as described here:

      https://www.reddit.com/r/NewPipe/comments/xe50uk/pipedkavinrocks_doesnt_work/

I checked out this list of Invidious instances and yewtu.be:

      https://docs.invidious.io/instances/

      https://yewtu.be/feed/popular

The homepage appears to work but my search for the word "test" caused a bug page. Then it worked a few minutes later as I was writing this.

Basically, I think these YouTube frontends tend to break often. It's good that they exist though.

  6. I successfully installed DR Flatpak version 3.2 (Linux). There are still files remaining from the previous build from source installation. What do I have to remove to properly uninstall?
  7. I'm trying to build the project using the steps on our Wiki. It just uses up all memory and then kills the terminal window I'm running it from Any ideas? https://ibb.co/RTFnLXG [url=https://ibb.co/RTFnLXG][img]https://i.ibb.co/RTFnLXG/image.png[/img][/url] Surely 16GB should be sufficient for make -j?
  8. Some days ago, Several builds of "the one" 2001 early build of Duke Nukem forever, been leaked online some days ago. This package includes the editor, but also its source-code. And some reviewers says is it legit. Whats your opinion about it?
  9. Since Aluminum directed me here ( https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/9082-newbie-darkradiant-questions/page/437/#comment-475263 ) can we have unlimited renderer effects? Well, maybe not unlimited, by maybe 3-5? Thanks.

There already is a kind of sorting, sort nearest, sort decal, sort <n>. For things like windows and such, sort nearest should probably have the desirable affect, though looking through multiple translucent shaders might kill performance.

    4. Nort

      Nort

Is having multiple render effects really killing performance that badly? I don't understand. You're saying that if I have two transparent objects side-by-side, then they'll just count as two render effects, but when combined, they somehow become something much more difficult to render?

Never-the-less, unless we're talking some kind of infinite portal problem, why not let the mapper choose how much he wants to kill performance? Just warn him against putting too many effects close together.

  10. Greets. I just setup VS 2022 Community/VC++/MFC on a fresh box, and did a Checkout with TortoiseSVC from the public repository of build 16481-9881 (matching a fresh 9881 dev install of TDM environment, as required). When I do the build, I get a link error: Can't find file libavcodec.lib I'm not finding that file in the working repository, although I do see the libavcodec folder and avcodec.lib If I select DarkModTools/Properties, I'm able to go to the Link/Input field and see where libavcodec.lib is listed, but I can't edit it to change it to avcodec.lib (says it's inherited) I'm kinda rusty, haven't used VS since 2015, so this may be a trivial thing. Help?
  11. Can anyone help with the following? When running make, I get this when it gets to OpenGLRenderSystem: Never mind. I built it again without errors.
  12. Woo!! 2.10 Beta "Release Candidate" ( 210-07 ) is out:

It wont be long now :) ...

Yeah and the wiki and moddb. It should have those links in the footer I think. Probably easy to add by an admin.

Edit: And a link to the bugtracker. I'm always searching for a post in the forum that links to that because I can't remember the url.

Reluctance to improve the forums is matched by reluctance to allow more people to work on it. Talk about trust and power.

  14. With dev build TDM 2.10/64 #9406 I get the warning: during compiling AAS... WARNING:brush 0 on entity 1114636288 is unbounded. That warning makes no sense to me. The brushes and entities near the coordinate location haven't been touched in ages. Of course there is no such entity and I've had different entity numbers 1.1 billion, 1.2 billion, ... I don't get that warning with stable build TDM 2.09/64 #9108 eta: After only vaguely isolating the problem area, I reverted to 2.09 and problem solved, or at least the appearance of a solution. However with thinking cap on I doubt that this is a problem with the dev build. Much more likely it's my map, which is a disgraceful clutter of stuff dating from too long ago, when I didn't have a clue, up to today when I'm getting the hang of it. I've decided to rebuild the map geometry, streamline it and set up portals properly. Use the 2.10 build. eta2: Had to delete the sealing brushes, sky and floor, plus the static floor meshes, over the entire affected area. Then slice up the replacement brushes to rid the WIP of neverending "chopwinding bla bla bla" errors. But it's done, v 2.10 dmap gives no errors. I fear I breached a protocol by posting this topic here, for which I apologize.
  15. I'm trying to build a debug trunk build (which I've been able to do in the past). I'm doing a "cmake -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE="Debug" ..", then "make" in a subdirectory called build, but make bails at the linking of the binary: [100%] Linking CXX executable thedarkmod.x64 /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lstdc++ collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status make[2]: *** [CMakeFiles/TheDarkMod.dir/build.make:8080: thedarkmod.x64] Error 1 make[1]: *** [CMakeFiles/Makefile2:96: CMakeFiles/TheDarkMod.dir/all] Error 2 make: *** [Makefile:104: all] Error 2 The libstdc++.so is installed and exists /lib/gcc/x86_64-redhat-linux/10/libstdc++.so. I'm not really familiar with cmake, so I'm not sure the proper way to get things linked up... any ideas? (Now that I think about it, I think the last time I built darkmod (last year) was applying a scons patch, which I rather just get the correct way to build darkmod working...)
  16. As of Git commit 67be9762f446d27abd84b3df49ba8cf1f4271077 we now have a functioning CMake build for DarkRadiant on Linux. The motivations for this are twofold: The main mod is using CMake already, and I am interested (at some point in the distant future) in the possibility of trying to re-use some code from the mod inside DR, in order to reduce code duplication for certain common functionality like parsing DEF files. Using the same buildsystem will make this much easier. Autotools is quite honestly an outdated and hacky buildsystem, in which you use M4 macros to generate a shell script which generates another shell script which generates Makefiles from Makefile templates using unintuitive and complicated text substitution rules, whereas CMake is a modern and well-designed buildsystem in which almost everything Just Works in an intuitive and robust way; even finding WxWidgets and Python was really easy compared to the multiple lines of shell script hackery which was needed to get this working in configure.ac. I imagine Autotools is great for compiling the df utility on a variety of weird BSD flavours, but it really isn't good choice for a complex modular application like DarkRadiant. So far I've checked that the CMake-built version of DR runs and looks correct with the expected plugin features available, although I haven't done exhaustive testing. I also need to update the Debian package scripts; my plan is to use CMake by default for the build on Linux but the Debian scripts are still pointing to configure, make etc.
  17. I downloaded it today to upgrade. Installed over the previous version. Working on my level, selecting a floor, walls, cornices, skirting boards, doors/doorways, copying, and begin to move into a new position and DR just shuts down. No crash, no error message, it just instantly closes. Very frustrating trying to build something when it keeps shutting down on me.
  18. Not so long ago I found what could make a pretty good profile picture and decided to try it out on these new forums. But I couldn't find a button anywhere that would let me change it. I asked on Discord and it seems Spooks also couldn't find anything anywhere. So I logged into an old alternative account and, lo and behold, that account has a button. This is on the first screen I get when I: 1) click on my account name in the top-right of the browser -> 2) click on 'profile'. Compared to my actual account: Are you also missing this button on your account? It'd be very much appreciated if that functionality could be restored to any of the affected accounts.
  19. I got the following error when building in Ubuntu 19.10: make[3]: Entering directory '/home/biel/games/src/DarkRadiant/plugins/script' CXX ScriptingSystem.lo CXX ScriptCommand.lo CXX ScriptModule.lo CXX ScriptMenu.lo CXX ScriptWindow.lo CXX SceneNodeBuffer.lo CXX PythonModule.lo In file included from /usr/include/pybind11/pytypes.h:12, from /usr/include/pybind11/cast.h:13, from /usr/include/pybind11/attr.h:13, from /usr/include/pybind11/pybind11.h:49, from PythonModule.h:5, from PythonModule.cpp:1: PythonModule.cpp: In static member function ‘static void script::PythonModule::RegisterToPython(const ModuleRegistrationCallback&)’: PythonModule.cpp:30:13: error: ‘dev0’ was not declared in this scope 30 | PYBIND11_VERSION_PATCH << std::endl; | ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ make[3]: *** [Makefile:674: PythonModule.lo] Error 1 make[3]: Leaving directory '/home/biel/games/src/DarkRadiant/plugins/script' make[2]: *** [Makefile:442: all-recursive] Error 1 make[2]: Leaving directory '/home/biel/games/src/DarkRadiant/plugins' make[1]: *** [Makefile:751: all-recursive] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory '/home/biel/games/src/DarkRadiant' make: *** [Makefile:492: all] Error 2
  20. Hi, I need to know what the code is to use Spoiler Tags. I am using my tablet and I don't have the options to use anything, like spoiler tags, quote tags, text changes etc. Thanks
  21. I updated my darkmod and darkmod_src repos this morning, and the first attempt at building a 64-bit Windows binary ran into the following error: 2> Creating library E:\Trunk\darkmod_src\..\darkmod\TypeInfo.lib and object E:\Trunk\darkmod_src\..\darkmod\TypeInfo.exp 2>idLib.lib(Simd_SSE2.obj) : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "class idCVarBool r_legacyTangents" (?r_legacyTangents@@3VidCVarBool@@A) 2>E:\Trunk\darkmod_src\..\darkmod\TypeInfo.exe : fatal error LNK1120: 1 unresolved externals 2>Done building project "typeinfo.vcxproj" -- FAILED. Can anyone who's been working in this area please fix this? Thanks!
  22. Hello! I can compile and run 2.07hotfix from SVN. I tried compiling the SVN trunk, using exactly the same method. It doesn't work, though - I get a blank screen and nothing else, not even audio. Here's the output. Note there's some binary junk in it. DarkMod.cfg: The suggestions at http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/19919-problem-with-207-some-level-unplayable/?p=435907 didn't help.
  23. 137 bugs fixed. 58 remaining. Only 30% of bugs left until a beta build for Shadows of Northdale Act 2 is ready.

Yes it was in a discussion where someone was saying how unhappy they are with the way game companies grant themselves permission to do whatever they like to your PC and personal info today. I pointed out that giving up games completely is an unnecessarily overkill solution when there are free games like TDM to play.
