  1. Is there something wrong with the forums lately, or is it my browser? I've been having trouble formatting posts, and just now I couldn't format anything at all.

    I'm using Vivaldi.

Usually I have to: select text, click bold, nothing happens, select again, click bold, then it works.

Same for other stuff, like creating spoilers, bullet points, links. Nothing works the first time.

I have no problem. I use Firefox. @Zerg Rush also uses Vivaldi. Have you tried without extensions, or in another browser?

(btw. bold, italic and underline have shortcut keys: Ctrl B, Ctrl I and Ctrl U, you could try that)

  2. When quick loading, the screen usually flashes a little brighter and shows something odd for a brief moment before and after the loading screen. I had trouble seeing exactly what it was until I recorded it. The attached image shows a series of screenshots that show the regular view, what looks like some sort of view where objects become translucent, the loading screen, a translucent view again, and finally the regular view. Note: I recorded this with my phone, so the translucent view is showing roughly 2/3 of that frame due to the camera and monitor being out of sync. (Recorded at 60 fps, Game 60fps) Edit: The "flash" that is seen is from the objects/solids becoming translucent. When they are translucent, they appear brighter. This can be seen in the images. Bug: https://bugs.thedarkmod.com/view.php?id=6149 This site recompresses uploaded images, reducing the quality a lot. I've attached just the translucent image as well, so it can be seen a little more clearly.
  3. (Yes, I'll upgrade to 3.0.0 later today. Sorry if this has changed.) I'm just wondering: Is it really necessary to list the names of every single extension of my graphics card, in the Dark Radiant log? ...because even though they're all on a single line, just look at the line: No other line even comes close to this line. If it's important, then it's important, but if it's not, can't you just print "2022-06-16 11:33:49 (13468) GL_EXTENSIONS: 376 found."?
  4. Dark Mod generally runs well for me, at least with stencil shadows off. But on a few maps certain areas will consistently drop below 60 fps. I'm thinking my system should be able to handle things, but it seems from the charts on my task manager that my gpu and vram are not being fully utilized. Especially the vram, I've got 8 and it's using like... 1... I tried mucking with the vram settings in an autoexec file to no avail. Is there anything I can do about this with Dark Mod, or is it something I need change involing my drivers?
  5. Since Aluminum directed me here ( https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/9082-newbie-darkradiant-questions/page/437/#comment-475263 ) can we have unlimited renderer effects? Well, maybe not unlimited, by maybe 3-5? Thanks.

Since I wasn't the one mainly asking, I'll just cite you in the original thread instead.

There already is a kind of sorting, sort nearest, sort decal, sort <n>. For things like windows and such, sort nearest should probably have the desirable affect, though looking through multiple translucent shaders might kill performance.

Is having multiple render effects really killing performance that badly? I don't understand. You're saying that if I have two transparent objects side-by-side, then they'll just count as two render effects, but when combined, they somehow become something much more difficult to render?

Never-the-less, unless we're talking some kind of infinite portal problem, why not let the mapper choose how much he wants to kill performance? Just warn him against putting too many effects close together.

  6. Woo!! 2.10 Beta "Release Candidate" ( 210-07 ) is out:

It wont be long now :) ...

  7. I don't think there's a link to thedarkmod.com on forums.thedarkmod.com ...

Yeah and the wiki and moddb. It should have those links in the footer I think. Probably easy to add by an admin.

Edit: And a link to the bugtracker. I'm always searching for a post in the forum that links to that because I can't remember the url.

I drew attention to this several times in the last few years. No one payed it any attention, so I just gave up.

Reluctance to improve the forums is matched by reluctance to allow more people to work on it. Talk about trust and power.

  8. I think it is actually quite weird that we don't have a thread on graphics technology, yet. So, I would like to encourage you to share awesome new demos, talks, articles or papers about graphics technology here. I recently came accross this brilliant analysis of the rendering pipeline of "Rise of the Tomb Raider". I would love to see something like that for Doom Eternal, but so far, I could only find this rather superficial (but nevertheless interesting) review by Digital Foundry. Epic revealed Unreal Engine 5 today, which looks absolutely stunning. That Nanite-Technology will probably save game developers quite a bit of time. I do wonder, 'though, how the actually do it? Do they dynamically generate LOD-models? Also, does their Lumen technology require RTX?
  9. 1. Cu r_useNewBackend 1 = rău, și cu r_useNewBackend 0 = bun. 2. Nu pot seta o rezoluție mai mică (de exemplu, 1366x768) în fullscreen. Acesta rămâne pe rezoluția nativă a laptopului (1920x1080). 3. Specificații laptop.
  10. Not so long ago I found what could make a pretty good profile picture and decided to try it out on these new forums. But I couldn't find a button anywhere that would let me change it. I asked on Discord and it seems Spooks also couldn't find anything anywhere. So I logged into an old alternative account and, lo and behold, that account has a button. This is on the first screen I get when I: 1) click on my account name in the top-right of the browser -> 2) click on 'profile'. Compared to my actual account: Are you also missing this button on your account? It'd be very much appreciated if that functionality could be restored to any of the affected accounts.
  11. Hi, I need to know what the code is to use Spoiler Tags. I am using my tablet and I don't have the options to use anything, like spoiler tags, quote tags, text changes etc. Thanks
  12. I am experimenting with TDM versioning and updates, and have problem with TDM 2.05. When I run it, it has very weird graphics: bumpmapping is absent, and lighting is rather weird in general. Here is the screenshot: I recall that I ran TDM 2.05 during TDM 2.06 beta phase and later, and it worked properly. I am 80% sure that I have correct packages and they did not change. However, I updated video driver for my GeForce 1050ti, and I suspect that this is the issue. I wanted to ask someone who still has TDM 2.05 and NVIDIA hardware to check if it works well. Or maybe someone else can help me diagnose the problem. I need to know whether my current TDM 2.05 installation is buggy or not.
  13. Still spreading the word about TDM on forums to new peops... Funny to see people say "Awesome, I loved playing Thief back in the day!"

Yes it was in a discussion where someone was saying how unhappy they are with the way game companies grant themselves permission to do whatever they like to your PC and personal info today. I pointed out that giving up games completely is an unnecessarily overkill solution when there are free games like TDM to play.

Honestly the mod/Indie genre is still really booming right now. And they aint got no reason to do shady invasive privacy bs.

  14. Hi guys, through the "cheats" topic I got the idea, that it would be quite useful, if there were tags for missions (the post was about removing the killing restriction in some missions to suit the prefered play style). I don't know how easy or difficult this is, but with them, it would be quite convenient to pick missions with playstyles, environment, etc one does want to use. This could also be expanded to other mission properties. I remember a discussion about climbable drains, handles on doors, that cannot be picked and other things the map author chooses for himself. That way these things would be clearer and as I said before, it is easier to choose missions with playstyles that suit oneself. What do think?

  17. So I'm basically planing on buying a new Graphics Card for my PC and I have no clue where to start or what to buy. 0% Knowledge in this kind of stuff. AMD Quad-Core A10-5700 10GB DDR3 2TB Hard Drive AMD Radeon HD 7660D My budget is around 300 cause I don't wanna go into the 400+ for a Card. Any tech savvy here can give me a hand? In potatoes and beans please? Thank you in advance
  18. Hi guys. I recently bought myself a new graphics card, a msi radeon r9 390 gaming 8G. The problem is that once I've installed a graphics driver, it turns out the cooling vents of the graphics card. This seems to be a know issue and amd has released a hotfix for it, but I can't install it. Everytime I try it tells me that it does not recognize the driver and aborts the install process. I've tried several drivers now and all of them do the same. If I don't have a driver installed, the vents keep turning but I can't play any games, and I've don't paid 300 bucks to browse the internet. I hope anyone here has any idea on how to solve the issue. Thanks in advance.
