  1. This may be a known problem, but I didn't find it in a scan through previous topics. Suddenly when I install old missions and try to load Saves, it just goes to "Press Attack to Start" and restarts the mission instead, on every Save. Apparently I can do new Saves but not load any of the existing ones. Anyone know how to rectify this? I've tried downloading updates, restarting the computer etc.
  2. Announcing the release of Braeden Church. Summary William Steele: In the North introduced us to some memorable characters: Lord Harckoff, Lieutenant Trumble, Father Grimmore ... The setting was a renovated Builder church. But what was that church like, back when Father Grimmore was alive and the Harckoff family was nowhere to be seen? This mission takes place on one very nasty night back then, when a gang of murderers and thieves raided the church. You happen to be in Braeden on the same night, and you decide to visit the church, with a goal that's quite different than what the gang had in mind. Download This mission requires TDM 2.06 or later. Available through the in-game mission downloader. Build Time Who knows? This was an idea I had after releasing In the North, and it got built in bits and pieces over the years. Its time has finally come. Thanks to ... Bikerdude, Amadeus, Cambridge Spy, Ubersuntzu, s.urfer, and AluminumHaste for beta testing. Bikerdude and Mortem Desino for the conversation voices. I18N Initially, this mission is not ready for translation. I intend to deal with that in the future. Recommendations 1. If you haven't played In the North, I recommend you play it before you play Braeden Church. (Braeden Church is NOT a Steele mission.) 2. For those of you inclined to race past conversations, I suggest you don't in this case. The opening conversation is an important part of the mission. Enjoy!!
  3. I added an EFX reverb column to the missions wiki. (No pressure...) :)

I would personally love an A to Z tut. I still might have a guy set for doing my FM soundtrack so having extra knowledge to arm all the select audio bits would be wonderful.

The Location System is technically mentioned in the context of a blurb saying the ambient sound system exists. (I remember because I wrote it!) But not everything it does. It's a bit complicated for an intro tutorial, but if many people think it's important enough, maybe we can have section just for it and add the ambient sound & EFX.

  6. Downloaded the new 2.06 update on laptop. 2.05 worked decently. When starting any FM, the load screen goes for about 5 seconds into progress. When the bar goes a little after the start, the game reverts back to the briefing screen and all sound disappears. If pressing start mission again, it does the same thing, sound still gone. Doesn't matter which FM to try, even training mission. No error message or crashing. No freezing. Tried different settings including performance tweaks in the wiki. What could be wrong? 8. Hello, everyone! I've done some searches in the forums, and looked in the troubleshooting on the wiki, but there's a problem that's been in Dark Mod for the past version or two that's now prevalent enough for me to log in and report. Not sure if it's an issue with the Dark Mod itself or just one model of light that someone developed and is using in more and more missions, but it's driving me nuts. In several missions, electric lights are used and the tone the game has them emanate...well, I'm supposing it's supposed to be a soft hum, but instead it's a piercingly loud sine wave kind of tone, like you'd hear if you were taking a hearing aid test. It's literally deafening compared to the sounds in the rest of the game, and as more and more levels use this light, it's really cutting down on the levels I want to play. Since no other users seem to be reporting this, I'm wondering if it's because of my particular audio configuration. I am using EAX (through Creative ALchemy) on Windows 10 on a current Sound Blaster card, so I'm wondering if somehow the EAX processing is making the sound so damn loud. The latest mission that seems to have this sound is "In The Black." I'm including a screenshot of one of the lamps in question. This one is in kind of an odd spot on an internal balcony railing, and I can hear it buzzing from well down the hall in another room. There are other rooms that have several of these lamps as well. Is there any kind of tweaking I can do in the .pk4 files to silence this model of lamp until the issue is resolved? I really want to be able to play these missions without being deafened. I'm up for any kind of troubleshooting, or if you'd like me to make a recording from a USB mic of how loud the tone is compared to other sounds in the game to hear exactly what I'm experiencing.

  10. Author Note: Shadows of Northdale is a new campaign that takes place in a city called Northdale that is situated up in the mountains of the western empire. Across the campaign the player will traverse through the varying districts of the city with each mission featuring it's own unique location as well as different locations in the city hub to access. ACT I is the first mission which is designed to introduce the player to the city hub area and the new mechanics available to them. During the first night in the city hub section there are a couple of places to explore however this will expand and open up further as you progress through the campaign's missions. This mission features some aspects which are different to the usual dark mod FM experience which are: - Food is an item that is picked up and stored in your inventory, pressing the use key with the food item highlighted will cause the player to eat it and gain 5hp - There is an ingame fence where you can purchase gear using any loot you may have found during the mission, you can visit him as many times as you wish but do be mindful of your loot goals - Also inside the fence's shop are contracts, these are readables which detail tasks that a client wishes you to complete for an agreed sum of gold. Upon completing them you will be rewarded with the designated sum immediately - Because you are not a wanted criminal (yet) the citywatch will only attack you if they catch you breaking the law or find you near the scene of a crime - Candles are pinchable in this mission, frobbing them causes Corbin to pinch them to put them out rather than pick them up The mission was designed and tested on 2.05, if you are playing on any other version there may be bugs present. If you enjoyed the mission please feel free to leave a review, I enjoy reading them and it gives me inspiration for my next projects. Tell me what you felt worked and what you felt could be improved for next time. Have fun taffers! - Goldwell. 2.06 UPDATE INFO: If you are experiencing any path finding issues (AI walking around in circles or getting stuck) on 2.06 then please enter the following console command to resolve these issues cm_backFaceCull 0. 11. Announcing the release of Sir Taffsalot's Sword. Summary This is my tribute to Sir Taffsalot (Gary Pugh), whom we recently lost. He was a valuable contributor in mission creation, beta testing, and idea contribution. You are tasked with recovering Sir Taffsalot's ceremonial sword, which has been stolen from him and spirited away to the mansion of one Lord Asher. While dealing with (or avoiding) Asher's guards, you need to find the sword and a couple special objects related to Sir Taffsalot. Since Asher isn't a nice fellow, there is (of course) the need to also find evidence he is up to no good. Download You can obtain a copy through the in-game downloader. It requires 2.05 or later. Build Time Roughly three weeks to build and three weeks to beta test. Thanks to my testers Amadeus, Bikerdude, and Epifire. I18N Initially, this mission is not ready for translation. As soon as I'm certain there are no killer problems, I'll produce an I18N-ready version. Enjoy!
  12. Hello I've been replaying a handful of missions, the last couple of days, and a little problem seems to be reoccurring. Some loot, usually blue money pouches is un frobbable; In the mission "Chalice of Kings" v.3.4 there are 2 pieces of loot that I'm unable to pick up. One of the pieces is found in the Library, inside the desk (I think), and the other is well hidden inside the captains room. The last mentioned piece of loot can be tricky to pick up if the thing covering it is pressed inward (so I've read), but I did dabble with it for about 20 minutes, always reloading before another attempt. Never succeed to pick it up. Another mission I encountered an issue with is "Breaking out the fence" v 1.0, inside the safe are 3 blue money pouches, one oblong and two round. I'm unable to pick up one of the round pouches. I'm playing on Expert in both missions. I'm using TDM version 2.05 running on Linux Mint 17.3/Ubuntu 14.04. Does anyone have any ideas about these issues?
  13. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Beneath the sands of Al Farum lie the desolated compounds of the Clockmaker's disciples. Before they made time itself become uniform, hours and centuries were pouring into the different lands like summer rains - unequally. Some lands, unimaginably ancient, were worn down by wind and sun, while others remained forever young like gardens of The First Serpent, filled with the creations of yet unskilled gods. Travelling helped to not only develop the sense of space, but also the - now forgotten - sense of time currents. That's where the disciples came from - travelers of time's labyrinth, always aware of its imperfections and splits, skilled in recognizing threats that grazes from the outside of time itself. To prevent floods and droughts of time, the disciples went back as far as they could to the source of time and studied it - they were referring to it as the Great Clock, the Clockmaker, the Time Sun - whatever it is, it tends to lose its impact on random locations, causing the land to fracture and tremble. The disciples managed to develop machines, the Great Clock's pendulums, that adjust its work and makes the world appear as we tend to think it always is. But the travelers are long gone now. It is unknown if they failed to foresee a terrible fate that awaited them in their struggle, or if they mastered their art to the point where they decided to abandon this torn apart world, making a great leap to a better one. All that remains are partially operational machines maintaining unseen matter with growing effort. Sadly, it seems that the only ones who can make use of its bizarre manifestations are the wealthy tourists who find joy in the spectacle of balancing life and death, movement and stillness. Simple minds toying with the scales that used to dose the essence of time, they mindlessly throw sand into the clockwork world's gears. The split is imminent and the momentum unstoppable, yet there is no one to foresee it." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Simple idea of spawning different creatures on enclosed arena - they fight with each other or with you. Default teams are townsfolk and monsters (both undead and spiders). Thieves are on player's side. Pagans, moors and mages on elementals side. download link: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AoIlw2GQnPGZdyRRqJspMgGsi38
  14. Hello Everyone. I have searched the wiki, the forum (advanced search) and the FAQ's finding MANY references to Mission Type but NOWHERE have I been able to find an explanation of what Mission Type is. Could someone please enlighten me and in addition explain the difference between the 'official TDM' mission list and the community maintained list since the Types 'seem' different between the two. Thanks in advance for any help.
  15. Story: "Sir Barrington, as he likes to be known, enjoys a prestigious reputation of having lavish yet intimate dinner parties. I've heard the tales about what goes on in the noble's dining room, but I believed none of them 'till now. Orbach, a local shop-keep who makes special deliveries to the people of 'high stature' heard Sir Henry Hughbellow raving about Sir Barrington's special 'Elixir', It cures your ails and gives you vigor... By the Hammer, it extends your very life! he exclaimed. Orbach begged Sir Henry for a small sample, and after one sip he was sure that the potion was nothing more than mineral water and spirit. He asked Sir Henry if other folks were as fond of the elixir as he was, and he found out that folks are paying handsomely for these small vials on a weekly basis. Some lords pay for exclusive treatments and bathe in the tonic. Lord Barrington even brings in an occult expert every month, where supposedly the power of the elixir is renewed by the full moon. Never one to pass up the opportunity for a good scam, Orbach has decided to take a cut of this 'elixir' business. He has made an elixir of his own, but needs to convince Sir Henry that it's really the same as the 'magical' tonic that Lord Barrington has been selling. And that's where I come in. Its rumered that Sir Barrington's prized possession is a painting of the revolutionary inventor 'Guillermo de Sohase' the day after he won the Battle of Billinsdune. If I can steal this painting, Orbach can use it to 'prove' that he also got the elixir from Sir Barrington. Once Sir Henry tells all his friends that Orbach's stolen elixir is healing his heart, soothing his pains, and igniting his libido, they'll be lining up at his shop. Its time to go." Build Time: Version 1.0 was speed build of sorts, to build upon Springheels video's with the new modules. Took roughly 20hrs to build but this ended up happening over the space of a few months.http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18808-bikerdudes-speedish-build-using-the-new-modules/?hl=%2Bspeed+%2BbuildThanks: Co-auther: Obstortte for all his custom entities, scripting and showing me a thing or two about perfing.Resource: Springheel - new modulesReadables: nbhor1moreTesters: Bienie, Judith, Abusimplea, Cambridge Spy, Gerberox, MayheM, Amadeus, Goldwell, nbhor1more.Download: - mega Info: Repeat after me, "Read and explore, Read and explore"Known issues: This mission has been heavily tweaked and worked on to provide a playable experience for even low end machines. For very low end PC's please make use of the in-game LOD slider, as not only are details reduced, but the ambient_world fog is removed at the lowest setting. The medium difficulty is partially broken, the mission wont end when the player gets to the exit location. As this is the only issue with that difficulty level, I will fix this when I next update it to include the intro.

  20. This is the mission I built to learn DR (with some lengthy gaps when Life intervened), and naturally has much in it I'd do differently now. As a starter mission it's fairly simple (manor house; object to steal; locked door; shiny things) and of moderate size, though the evidence from beta testing is that your mileage may vary on that point. Just completing the mission requires one unconcealed key and is mostly about working out where to go. If you want to get all the loot, it's assumed you enjoy hunting high and low for trinkets. And keys. And clues about the first two.The grounds/exterior and the chapel may be somewhat taxing performance-wise.Paintings galore: none of them loot. Don't bother checking.Every mansion needs at least one Dark Secret, but there's no special reward or objective for piecing fragments together, and some strands are left deliberately dangling...If you can't bear even two seconds (precisely) of undead, stay out of Thanks to all the people whose assets, test reports and/or advice in NDRQs went into this. Screenshots: Download link Construction notes (for those who like reading):
  21. Hello, since my gaming computer crapped out, I am unable to play the Dark Mod, and since I was never a computer engineering genius, I don't know if I could design a map even if it were to be fixed. Therefore, I shall instead contribute my ideas to the forum for those who are more talented and able to actually make use of them to make reality. Consider this me being a "ghost-writer". The first mission idea I have is a standard Lovecraftian sea monster story simply titled "From The Depths". In it, the Thief (you can make him your own character if you already have one, such as Corbin or Thomas Porter) hears from some warty, flabby fat sailor drunk off his ass in a seaside tavern in Bridgeport about how some sort of freak storm literally wrenched a galleon from the depths and flung the stinking wreck out of the sea and into the Flooded District. Soon after, reports of strange beastmen are reported in the flooded ruins in southern Bridgeport, and of how they seem to be guarding some sort of magical artifact. The artifact in question is the skull of an infamous necromancer, chopped apart and flung it the ocean for his hideous experiments on fetuses. Imagine using stem cell regeneration and mixing it with necromancy to create some sort of genderless, pasty white, technically undead, lamprey-mouthed, leechman that reproduces by ripping in half. Something kind of similar in appearance to the Freaks of the disliked on this forum Thief 2014, but with no eyes and a gaping jawless circular mouth. The skull of the Necromancer seems to have fused with some coral, with the upper right half of it having mutated into what looks like a human heart covered by an exoskeleton of blood-red coral, and small pearl-like eggs that spawn albino leech-looking Leechman larva are "birthed" out of the remaining eye socket like a demented birth canal. The creatures are weak to fire and holy water, so the Builders have managed to hold them back. Bodies of undesirables and criminals can be found shriveled and pale, drained of blood and raised as zombies. Your client, a mysterious member of the nobility, hires you to get in and steal the skull from its blood-nest in the half-biomass-covered wreck of the galleon in the flooded district. Additionally, a ritual can be done to turn the entire flooded district's water into holy water by lighting candles at Builder shrines around the area, causing all Leechmen and the weird meat on the ship to disappear in a screaming burst of flame, revealing a door that had been covered in undead biomass that leads to the galleon's treasure chest. Anyone have any critiques?
  22. I am looking to have one mission jump straight into the next without a mission complete screen or debriefing screen either. So the flow I am hoping for is Player is going through file_a.mapHits a switchLoading screenPlayer is now in file_b.map (preferably with all of their gear/items collected too)Is something like this possible?
  23. Author Note: This is a brand new mission and a new entry into the accountant series. There are some different than usual puzzles in this FM, so if you find yourself stuck try to think about your pathway forward in a logical manner. And if you're still having troubles then pop by this thread and ask (preferably with spoiler tags). This FM is brand new and serves as the first installment in The Accountant series, a few years back there was a small prologue style mission released however I felt that it did not represent The Accountant series so I decided to go back to the drawing board and do a whole new mission that's larger, has a better level design and has a story that lines up closer to what I plan to do with the accountant series. The mission is medium sized and you can expect between 30-90 minutes to complete it depending on your playstyle.
