  1. If any mappers have encountered weirdness with kill objectives not working with drowning AI, I think I've found out why. I don't think it would be a particularly difficult one to fix either. I've raised this bug report: https://bugs.thedarkmod.com/view.php?id=6323 Some context here: https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/21837-fan-mission-the-lieutenant-2-high-expectations-by-frost_salamander-20230424/&do=findComment&comment=487316 I think this is a bug, but just raising here in case some people think otherwise.
  2. Anyone can upload a binary/compiled version of last LLVMpipe/Softpipe from Mesa3D 11.2.0 ? (sw "opengl32.dll" ) I'm trying to do it by myself but I encounter a scons error :/ And hey, now Mesa3D got OpenGL 4.x compliance, so we can test TDM with a software rasterizer (and it got Intel OpenSWR too: http://openswr.org/ https://github.com/OpenSWR/openswr-mesa )
  3. Perplexity.ai say Based on the search results, it seems that .kkrieger is a first-person shooter game created by a German demogroup called .theprodukkt. The game won first place in the 96k game competition at Breakpoint in April 2004. The game's size is only 97,280 bytes, which is much smaller compared to most popular first-person shooters that fill one or more CDs or DVDs, which may be over 7000 times .kkrieger's size [2]. The developer team achieved this small size by exploiting the Direct3D API and DLLs of the Windows operating system. As a result, .kkrieger can only run on Windows. It is essentially a demo showing how far the capabilities of Direct3D can be pushed with an absolute minimum amount of code [8]. Here are some technical details about how .kkrieger is created based on [13]: .kkrieger makes extensive use of procedural generation methods. Textures are stored via their creation history instead of a per-pixel basis, thus only requiring the history data and the generator code to be compiled into the executable, producing a relatively small file size. Meshes are created from basic solids such as boxes and cylinders, which are then deformed to achieve the desired shape - essentially a special way of box modeling. These two generation processes explain the extensive loading time of the game - all assets of the gameplay are reproduced during the loading phase. The game music and sounds are produced by a multifunctional synthesizer called V2, which is fed a continuous stream of MIDI data. The synthesizer then produces the music in real time. If you are interested in downloading and playing .kkrieger, you can find it on GitHub [0]. If you want to install it using Chocolatey, you can use the following command: $packageArgs = @{ packageName = "$env:chocolateyPackageName" url = 'https://files.scene.org/get/parties/2004/breakpoint04/96kgame/kkrieger-beta.zip' UnzipLocation = "$(Split-Path -Parent $MyInvocation.MyCommand.Definition)" checksum = '0de0b9abafd78cf7f57fb264c7136ace52b2653f5c675574d0f10eda0a654c9f' checksumType = 'sha256' } Install-ChocolateyZipPackage @packageArgs https://github.com/ZlayerHunter/kkrieger-script/blob/master/kkrieger.py
  4. Afternoon all I am creating a general Windows 10 tech support thread in order to detail any bugs/fixes/tweaks that people come across while using Windows 10 itself or with The Darkmod under Windows 10. I will be updating and tweaking this OP as we go and will provide an index with links to fixes as they come up. This is what I have found since completing the setup of Windows 10 pro on my PC - red - no fix found yet blue - working on fix green - fix found black - reported only Installing: How do I clean install windows 10 - if like me you have an SSD or just prefer to install windows 10 you only have one option and its a PITA (and this is the offiail method from Microsoft)Using the media-creation tool download either direct to a USB stick or an ISO and write to a USB stick via the Win7 USB tool.Backup all your data and then double click on the installer from the USB stick from with in Windows 7/8, and to save time I didn't bother choosing to download any updates(but some users might have to for the upgrade to work). Once Windows 10 is installed, shut down the machine. If like me you have an SSD I would strongly recommend a factory reset of the drive using the manufactures tool or a 3rd paty tool like PartedMagic. Then reboot the machine with your Windows 10 USB stick, and then install windows, when you get prompted (multiple times for a CD key, just click skip). The PC will reboot a few times and after about 30mins you will have a fresh install of Windows 10.Then check 'This PC' and you will find windows is activated. The crucial and pertinent fact is that the reason for installing from the USB stick is that, during the first install a hardware HASH is generated from your existing Win7/8 key & motherboard of that particular PC and then written to said USB stick. This is currently the only way I have found to do a clean install - B.S. I know but, there it is. Bugs & Fixes: Right click & Manage on "This PC" no longer works - this seem's to be a random bugIf your router's firewall has outgoing rules set, browsing in windows 10 results in delays and unresponding sites - I had to turn off all outgoing rulesNo sound from any XFI sound card, despite driver installed and the card set to default sound output - the fix, is to set bit depth set to 16bit / 44khzCan't drag and drop files in windows explorer from r/h pane to a drive on the l/h pane.Windows slow and unresponsive at times, fix is to changing the page file size - linkAnother fix for Windows 10 being laggy and unresponsive, permanently disable Windows Defender - linkSome windows updates are causing infinite bootloop - linkTweaks: How to change or remove new start menu and replace with Xp/7 like menu - install Classic shellHow to Add or Remove OneDrive from Navigation Pane of File Explorer - linkHow to Add or Remove Drives in Navigation Pane of File Explorer - linkHow to Add or Remove Homegroup in Navigation Pane of File Explorer - linkHow to Add or Remove Libraries in Navigation Pane of File Explorer - linkHow to Add or Remove Network in Navigation Pane of File Explorer - link How to Add or Remove This PC in Navigation Pane of File Explorer - linkHow to Add or Remove Quick access in Navigation Pane of File Explorer - linkHow to Add or Remove Recycle Bin in Navigation Pane of File Explorer - linkHow to Add a OneDrive Open or Close Context Menu - linkHow to change ugly Win10 desktop/explorer icons to either older Vista or 7 look - no fix as of yetRemove start button/orb from second taskbar when using multiple screens - no fix as of yetSome services & programs still start despite being disabled in services.msc and auto start, doing a regedit search and remove is the way to go - linkIf like me you have already removed the search bar, but find Cortana is still running in the background. Here is the fix - linkHow to prevent a broken windows update/driver from installing - linkThe Darkmod: No sound with EAX enabled link - the fix for now is to disable EAX as its not currently supported in any TDM missions.Other info: After installing windows 10, disable (Opt-Out) all privacy settings. 5. Is anyone in here in favor of the current sorting (very first screenshot in this topic) over other options? Please speak up. By going current, missions are kind of sorted and mission names are respected. By going true alphabetical, missions are sorted and mission names are respected. By going article last, missions are kind of sorted and mission names are not respected. Please comment if you disagree or have something to add to my three points above. If I were to decide I would personally find defending the second option the easiest: how would you like Windows to sort your files and folders?
  6. How you can help depends a lot on what skills you have. I can Record Video Recording "Let's Play" videos or simple walkthroughs of existing missions and posting them to Youtube is great exposure for the mod (see example .) Be sure to let us know so we can link to them. If you have some editing ability, Video tutorials, where you explain how the mod works, or how to use specific tools, would also be great. Video trailers, showcasing interesting places and features, are also great for publicity. An example is . I can Write Writing reviews for missions are always nice, especially if they include good screenshots. Not only does it give us something to post on other forums, but it makes mappers feel good when their mission gets attention (especially if it's positive). We have a collective thread to post reviews in: http://forums.thedar...s-walkthroughs/ Writing reviews of the mod as a whole, targetted an an audience that doesn't know much about TDM, is also very useful. You could also try offering your services to mappers to create interesting readables, or to proofread for their mission. I can Act and Record Audio We are always on the lookout for good quality audio recordings for vocal sets. If interested, you can pick a few different lines from this script: http://wiki.thedarkm...t:_Average_Jack and send the recordings to Springheel, who then writes a script based on the type of voice you have. I can Translate We could always use translations of our menu/hud into more languages. Also, only a few FMs are aavailable in more than one language, so there is a lot of work there, see the I18N Translator's Guide in the Wiki. I can Model Great! Take a look at the model request thread:http://forums.thedar...-requests-here/ and pick something that interests you. Or just post a, "Hey, anybody want a model?" thread in this forum and I'm sure mappers will get back to you. I can Animate Fantastic. We can always use more good animations. Our current character rigs use a Maya skeleton. PM Springheel for more info. I know C++ Have a look at our coding section in the wiki, pick an issue or feature from the bugtracker of the mod or the leveleditor, download the recent sourcecode release (or better ask for an SVN checkout) and get cracking. Make sure nobody is already working on that specific issue and feel free to ask questions. I can Edit Images We can always use completely new textures and/or improved versions of older textures. How to get started and how to import them into the mod. I can Take Photos Good quality photos of useful textures (medieval-ish building facades, dirt, rocks, wood, etc) are always welcome. The fewer directional shadows and higher resolution, the better. I don't have any skills Even if you can't do any of the above, you can still help out. Talk about TDM in other forums; share your (preferably positive) experiences with other gamers you know. Last, but not least, compliment people when you like their work. Saying "thanks", to a developer or, "I really enjoyed your mission" to a mapper will make their day. -------------------- I'll update this further as more things occur to me.
  7. OK, not seeing too many opportunities to improve things yet. The mission is made of mostly model prefabs so there isn't really any excess triangulation due to brush carving. Most of the portals seem to be doing their job but since it's all model geometry all the open doors and windows pose a challenge to help much. Maybe forcing some func_portal closures at the fogged distance might improve things. Speaking of fog, I am seeing a lot of "double-fogged" surfaces. I believe this is happening due to duplicate geometry or transparent geometry. ( See the bright band in center of the screenshot ) : If you can isolate this extra geometry and make it into entities then you can set those entities with a "noFog" flag to prevent them from fogging. This presumes the geometry is transparent though.
  8. also it is the old edge the new one also does not play 4K content and no other browser can. the netflix app should be able to play 4K if you have the premium package but you might need the HEVC codec before it works (this used to be free but you can get it from windows store for a small fee now). vlc should be able to do 4K but i heard rumors about massive lag spikes. smplayer also does 4K (this is the one i use) and so far i had no problems with 4K content whatsoever. using kodi for your streaming -> forget it... the plugins use widewine drm and it can only do 1080 on windows.
  9. Some time ago I was looking for a good app to share files, since I wanted to become independent from the famous Imgur, which I find with so many trackers and privacy problems not at all reliable. In Windows I use ShareX, which is perhaps one of the best screen recorders with a huge amount of functions and tools, but it also uses Imgur as an image sharer by default, but allows you to change it. At first I replaced it with vgy.me., an excellent imagehost and sharer, with good privacy, although only limited to images. But a few months ago I found File Coffee, which can be called the definitive solution, because it allows you to host and share any type of file, be it images, documents presentations, texts, multimedia, videos of any extension, it is 100% free, encrypted and private (Made in EU, GDPR norm) safe, blazing fast and stable. It admits without registration 15 Mb per file, with free registration, 30 Mb, being able to control the uploaded files. With this you can forget DropBox, GDrive, Imgur and a lot of other solutions, well, except for PK4 bigger than 30Mb. The best, it also had a own config app for ShareX, which with one click make all the needed settings in ShareX to be used in this tool. Screenshots linked with filecoffee, given image, multimedia and video links can be inserted or, in case of document's or other, they open in a new tab and can be downloaded from there.
  10. https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2023/05/potentially-millions-of-android-tvs-and-phones-come-with-malware-preinstalled/ Android is the new Windows 98. Except that in the days of Windows 98, you could easily erase the system and reinstall from fresh, officially pressed media if you had any reason not to trust it or think that it was compromised.
  11. The war on general purpose computing is continuing. For the past thirty years, you have been free to buy any computer and then run whatever software you like on it. Windows 10 S is changing this. With Windows 10 S, consumers will only be allowed to run applications from the Microsoft store. The Dark Mod? Forget about it. Your favorite retro games or other programs? Kiss them goodbye, too! Microsoft are being sneaky about this, as usual. Manufacturers are starting to sell kit pre-loaded with Windows 10 S, which sounds an aweful lot like Windows 10, if you are an average Joe. And if you are an average Joe, you probably also won't see the jail bars coming down. By this, I mean that you will purchase the "Windows computer", thinking that it will run all of your favorite programs as normal. But then you will find out that this is not the case. Fear not, for now. Microsoft is allowing you to convert from Windows 10 S (jail edition) to Windows 10 Pro, for free, up until the end of the year. At that point though, it will cost $50 to escape the Microsoft Jail, and to obtain the freedoms you've enjoyed with the personal computer for the past thirty years, out of the box. So, just avoid anything that says Windows 10 S. The sooner this quest to convert PCs into glorified game consoles with extra privacy invading goodness as icing on the cake collapses, the better off we will all be. I don't have to tell you that if we lived in a world of Windows 10 S, something like TDM would have probably never been created. TLDR: Windows 10 S is a crippleware version of Windows which won't let you run any program you wish, without upgrading. Upgrading is free now, but will cost $50 starting next year.
  12. Not quite. The project is based on this: https://github.com/copy/v86 The source package for Felix's windows95 is around 2.35 MB, but the actual full releases are in the area of 300 MB so he must be bundling a Windows 95 base package alongside it. Basically this project is about adapting an x86 emulator running in Javascript to be run within an Electron framework, and tailored specifically to run Windows 95 smoothly. I'm not downplaying Felix's efforts though - taking bits and putting them together such that you can run Windows 95 in Electron in a fast, smooth and reliable way takes effort and skill. But he didn't build Windows 95 in Javascript and frankly I don't know how he could since its source code is still locked up at Microsoft.
  13. Author note: It's hard to believe it's already been a year since Act 1 came out! Well during this mission the player will be following Corbin into the Grimwood district to followup on a lead from last night (Act 1) .. the mysterious tablet! This mission is my first time including full EFX support as well as a HD briefing video file, additionally a new script has been added crafted by the talented Obsttorte which has loot flying towards the player when you pick it up. On a level design front I have tried to change things up a bit by really catering towards a number of play styles, this mission can be completely ghosted or you can use the tools at your disposal to wreak havoc on the citizens of Northdale. For the first time I have tried to create more sandbox environments which don't offer clear answers handed directly to you, so if you're having trouble figuring something out try a different method. This mission takes between 1 - 2 hours to finish depending on the difficulty you play on and how thoroughly you explore. 14. That's not a problem in Windows. Most likely another Linux issue. It's not a Linux game after all, so, there is no "adaptation", but rather just running it with a wrapper.
  15. uploaded a new version of tdminstaller windows for testing 20181125. this can be included in tdm main package

  16. I just tried on a Windows pc and I can unshoulder on click just fine. I think it's something that comes naturally. If something is highlighted, that takes priority over the unshouldering. Also, the old method of unshouldering with keyboard key still works even when object is highlighted. I think the goal is to make the controls more logical and more convenient, although I have to say that if I din't have the issue that I couldn't find the use key (it does not excist in Settings >Controls), I wouldn't become active on the forum. Btw. I think the tutorial mission was a team effort, right? So this might mean that if a forum user would supply fixes to it, they could be reviewed and implemented? Just like what has been done recently to Tears of St. Lucia.
  17. I could provide a cvar that restores 2.11 behavior for bodies and uses the new behavior for candles. How about that? These things should work just fine. Aren't you using the Windows build provided by @Wellingtoncrab? Could you please give it a try and let me know if there are issues? If so, I'll need to make adjustments.
  18. Hello TDM-ers. I am encountering an issue where textures seem to partially disappear. I tried searching the forums, but, I don't know what to search for. The missing textures are a worldspawn brush acting as a roof with {for now} flat iron texture. There are other worldspawn brushes right below to create an attic ceiling with roof framework board texture. These gaps appeared a few edits ago. I can't "undo" to get back before whatever edit did this. The gaps are only visible during play and are not visible during editing. Closing and reopening DR and TDM do not fix anything. Some of the brushes overlap in areas behind the play area but I have never seen an issue doing that. The attached image has the effect I am now seeing. Ideas on where to start debugging this? Very much appreciated. Clint
  19. Haven't played too much of it yet, but I'm enjoying much of it. The atmosphere is awesome, and I love the the idea that the bridge is so big that people built buildings on it as if it's just another part of town. I'm also enjoying that I'm being able to ghost it without even knowing it beforehand. Not perfect ghosting, but pretty decent for a first playthrough. There are some technical issues though. The outdoor areas are barely playable on my potato. Even some indoor areas are heavy because they have transparent windows revealing the outdoor areas. I'm thinking the performance killer may be those fully detailed buildings in the distant background. Ideally they would be very low poly models, because the player is never gonna see them up close. As it is, they have literally millions of triangles to be rendered at once (r_showprimitives 1). That the outdoor area is completely open also doesn't really help the game render less stuff at once. This engine isn't particularly suited for this kind of thing. I think fog can also weigh on performance, but I'm not sure. I've had lower FPS on foggy missions before, but they were also highly detailed (Iris and Briarwood Manor), so it may not have been the fog. I also found two minor issues so far that are probably easy to fix:
  20. Quick-press frob Pick up body and shoulder it (carry it) / Drop body Pick up candle/lantern and carry it / Drop candle/lantern Pick up an item and carry it / Drop item Long-press frob (for special action) Drag body or body limbs Pinch out candle (also, pinch out candle while carrying it) Toggle lantern off/on (also, toggle lantern while carrying it) Not many words at all. Have you tried the Windows build that @Wellingtoncrab made yet, or did you just think about this? I'm a bit surprised that you are not for this change. It seems like something you would like. This change is something best felt while playing. During early testing, those who tried it out in game liked it.
  21. (I apologize for the odd poll question layout. I wasn't able to add five yes-no questions, because polls are limited to three questions.) Hi everyone, I've recently been working on some patches for issues that I've read about from players on the TDM and TTLG forums — and Discord. My goal is to make it as easy as possible for players, especially new players and those who need usability/accessibility options, to find what they need in order to have a better TDM experience. I've already written the GUI and game engine code for these settings, which I've been using in my personal build. The reason for this poll and discussion is to both guide the finalization of my work and collect data to help inform the dev team. Which patches I submit depend on the outcome of this poll, discussion, and what the dev team agrees to accept. Once decided, I can coordinate with the dev team. I've attached screenshots of what the new settings menu would look like if all of the settings are accepted. Below, I have detailed each menu setting, so you can have an easier time understanding each one. Very important to keep in mind: None of these settings change TDM default behavior. They are all opt-in. If you are already happy with the behavior of 2.10, 2.11, etc. and these menu settings are accepted, nothing will change for you. Rename "Always Run" to "Run Mode" with options "None, Always, Toggle" After 2.11 was released, @i30817 requested that "toggle run" be added to the settings menu. Its cvar is already in TDM as "in_toggleRun" (same as Doom 3). I propose renaming the "Always Run" setting to "Run Mode" with options: "None", "Always", and "Toggle". None = in_alwaysRun 0; in_toggleRun 0 Always = in_alwaysRun 1; in_toggleRun 0 Toggle = in_alwaysRun 0; in_toggleRun 1 Show Blackjack Helper @Wellingtoncrab suggested that the new blackjack helper be added to the settings menu. Its cvar was added to 2.11 as "tdm_blackjack_indicate". More info: It's the new blackjack helper added to 2.11. When the game detects that the blackjack can be used for a successful hit or KO, the blackjack will rise slightly. I propose a "Yes/No" setting for this. Slider for "View: Head Bob" @ChronA requested a way to disable head bobbing, because a viewer watching him play was having severe motion sickness. Also, there was a bug in TDM that made setting the head bob in the console not stick after loading a saved game. (Even with 2.11, if a mission overrides the "tdm_player_thief.def" file and sets "pm_bobroll", "pm_bobpitch", "pm_bobup", and other cvars, it will override player preferences.) As far back as 2008, players have had trouble setting head bob. Another one from 2018. At the end of 2022, @Shadowex3 registered just to voice the need for a way to control head bob. I propose that a slider be added to adjust the amount of head bob. This would use a new "pm_headbob_mod" cvar with a value between 0.0 and 1.0 (default 1.0, no change). The "pm_headbob_mod" would be a multiplier for "pm_bobroll", "pm_bobpitch", and "pm_bobup". The advantage to this approach is that missions like Volta 2 and Hazard Pay would not need to adjust their "tdm_player_thief.def" files for head bob to work properly. And, the player can still adjust "pm_bobroll", "pm_bobpitch", and "pm_bobup" as they like. Slider for "View: Mantle Roll" This is similar to head bob for those who are sensitive to motion. Its cvar was added to 2.11 as "pm_mantle_roll_mod". A Thief player on Discord said, "2.11 will have a cvar to tune down the mantling animation at last." I propose that a slider be added for "pm_mantle_roll_mod". Auto-Search Bodies @Zaratul requested the "auto-search bodies" feature from Thief 1 & 2. Its cvar was added to 2.12 dev16783-10307 as "tdm_autosearch_bodies". I did a poll on the a Thief Discord server and roughly 20% of players there use the Thief auto-search bodies feature. I propose a menu setting for this, so that players coming from Thief 1 & 2 can easily find it.
  22. I just tested the Windows version that was uploaded on the latest 1.12 rc, but I get confusing results. Like when I frob a candle with holder, short frob will take it and long frob will extinguish it. When frobing a body it's the other way around though, short frob will shoulder it and long frob will take it. Short frob on the latter also gives the impression that the body is shouldered very quickly! I suggest to swap this and fix both issues in one go.
  23. Here's a Windows build that @Wellingtoncrab made that includes both the frob and lean patches.
  24. Here is a patched windows executable I compiled with both @Daft Mugi's lean and frob patches. I played through all of A Bridge Too Far with and it appears stable to me. [irony] The crypto mining worm I included is pretty light weight so you will only notice a modest FPS drop. [/irony] For what it's worth I think the new lean is an improvement. This combined with the frob changes made the game feel in general like there is less friction when I was trying to quickly snuff a candle, fire off an arrow, move a body quickly out of the way etc.
  25. Awesome! Post is up! https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/22200-beta-testing-the-house-of-delisle/#comment-487365 Thanks!
